I had to dig around on this site to find this thread. I'm glad I did.

I'm a huge Downton Abbey fan. My local PBS is airing previous seasons of it right now. It's such a good show. The costumes, the acting, the setting, the story lines...I can't get enough.

Right now I'm watching season 2. They're playing the episode where Mary and Matthew are singing for the troops who are staying at Downton. I can't wait for January when the new season begins. I need my Dowager Countess fix. She's the best character on the show in my opinion. I love the scenes where she and Matthew's mother are chatting together. I can't think of Matthew's mother's name, but she's the perfect foil for the Dowager.

I know what you mean. I avoided it for 3 years but, right after I attained the ability to watch PBS in HD, my local PBS did the same thing. I never got hooked so fast! New season hits US in January!!!!

It's really funny. Everybody I know who watches the show got hooked very quickly. Even my dad-a typical all-American dad type-watches this show. It's one of those that just drags you in. The first time I watched it, I put it on, and didn't pay that much attention to it while I was sitting there at the computer. Ten minutes in, and I couldn't stop watching.

Call the Midwife is another one of these sneaky British PBS shows that has gotten me completely hooked. Do you watch that one?

Yes. But that one didn't hook me so fast. In fact I watched the first season only because it was right before Mr. Selfridge. But, then I got hooked on it beginning with season two.

I hate that the lead lady has left. But the story line has plenty of grit to carry on, I'm sure.

Anyway, looking forward to the new Downton seties!

I'm watching the episode right now where Thomas scams Mrs. Patmore and brings home the fake cake flour (or whatever that was). I can't stand Thomas. I was so happy when O'Brien left. I was kind of hoping that they'd get rid of Thomas, but I understand that they probably think having a villain around is important. He's just such a jerk. The actor who plays him is great because when a scene with him is on, I find myself telling him off.
