Because he was the original owner of the network and when he sold it he made it clear in legal papers that whoever owns it must have Family in it's title and must air the 700 Club. So if ABC ever sold the network, the new buyers would have to agree to this.

LOL, so that's why they show it 3 times a day. Making them air your show thereby still having editorial control over the network, Shrewd move Robertson!

I heard that, at one time, The Walt Disney Company had planned to change the channel's name to "XYZ" (a reverse reference to ABC) as part of a remarketing effort. However, the original sale from CBN to International Family Entertainment contained a stipulation that the channel has to contain the word "Family" in its name permanently, regardless as to who owns the network. They (ABC Family) are also contractually required to air The 700 Club at least twice a day.

If there was really a contract stipulating this, then I wonder when such a contract will expire? Upon Pat Robertson's passing-away or some other way? If that happens, where else are we gonna find The 700 Club?

"Stay Safe"? More like "Stay Sad".

^You could find "The 700 Club" on a channel for a local TV station.

It seems like network names don't mean anything anymore. I mean History channel is doing reality shows, Food Network is game shows, even Lifetime Movie Network is showing old A&E shows!

I'm sure they will just change the tagline and on air look. Level of quality of 'original' cable TV shows has been terrible for the past 7 years.
When you typed "reality shows", did you mean programs formatted like "Pawn Stars" and "Ice Road Truckers" (since the History Channel has always had programs about reality)?

Yes. That was what I meant. I have nothing against those shows, just think its a far stretch for them to be on the History Channel.
