Question Steve Harvey Show Boned the Fish When...

http://www.bonethefish.com/viewtopics.php?404

Quote:
Steve Hightower (Steve Harvey) is a has-been 1970s rhythm and blues singer who is now a music teacher/Vice-principal at Booker T. Washington High in Chicago. Budget cutbacks meant Steve also had to teach drama and art, unbeknownst to him. Cedric Robinson (Cedric the Entertainer) is a coach at the high school, and Steve's long-time best friend. The principal of Booker T. Washington High is Steve's former classmate, Regina Greer (Wendy Raquel Robinson), who Steve affectionately calls "Piggy", due to the fact that she was overweight as an adolescent.

The Steve Harvey Show never boned the fish.

If anything, I thought it improved with time as it became more of an ensemble cast with the addition of Lori Beth Denberg and Terri J. Vaughn.

EDIT: And I always thought Romeo and Bullet Head were considered "dumb kids" throughout the series. That was one of the show's running gags in fact. I wouldn't consider this a "boned the fish" instance.

  • Other Thoughts:

Never jumped. Always funny and not in the ghetto-we-have-to-remind-you- we're-Black-every-week type of humor like the Hughleys does. Great sitcom.
IMHO, one of the funniest sitcoms ever...period. Great cast with not a weak link to be found. They deserve just as much credit as the overhyped casts of shows such as "Friends". I love it when they throw in little pop culture asides. In an early episode, Steve lamented the cancellation of the sitcom Me & the Boys (the show that he starred in on ABC). Funny stuff... too bad that the WB lost alot of affiliates this past year. It now comes on at 11:30 p.m. on Sundays! I hear that this will be the last season and maybe that is just as well. I would hate to see Steve & Co. put on the skis and do what we have seen so many other shows do in the past. I do wish him luck on the development deal that he has with CBS...Steve is the MAN!!
I just wanted to comment on my earlier statement about The Steve Harvey Show. Not long after I submitted my post, I heard that the WB is going to renew Steve for another season. Message to the WB...please give it a decent time slot!
It never did! This show is well-written and funny! I love it!!!
Lori-Beth Denberg is annoying. Nuff said.
This is one of my favorite shows. The only beef I have is that Romeo and Bullethead have been on the show for 5 years. Are they ever going to graduate? I know they're supposed to be stupid, but come on. Also, can Lydia and Bullethead get together? That would be something. I like the fact that Lovita and Cedric are married. They love each other so much. It's so cute. For some reason, I don't want Steve and Regina to get together. I like it that they're friends. I think that's one of the reasons that the show has lasted so long. On his radio show this morning (100.3 The Beat, Los Angeles), Steve said that he doesn't plan on doing this show after this season. He said there are no more live audiences. I guess I was lucky, I was at the taping of the one with Dr. Joyce Brother's on it. He's as funny in real life, actually funnier. So was Cedric. The only one who didn't flub was Lovita. She's a very good actress. Did you know that's not her real voice? Who knew?
This show never jumped! It is one of the funniest shows on the tube. And with the addition of the bernie mac show, all of the kings of comedy now have t.v. time. I just started watching this show on the reruns. it is one of the funniest of the shows on t.v., much better than that stupid friends that has been on for about 15 years now. i am a little disturbed about the fact that romeo and bullethead have been in the 12th grade for about 3 years now. not that i don't appreciate looking at merlin santana but why does he have to be stupid? i didn't realize he was hispanic, either. i think the greatest thing they could have done for this show was to get rid of that squealing train wreck sofia and her no talent friend sara. and its great to see a show that features the black characters as having education and accomplishing something in their lives other than selling crack to the local prostitute and later realizing the error of their misguided ways and trying to reform their torn apart lives. ALSO this show has not falling into the trap that so many shows fall into when the two main characters get together. you always knew that they wanted to get together but that they had so many issues. even know that they have gotten together they still cause each other grief and its funny cause they take the things you agonize over and make them even larger than life. like the time lovita tried to tell steve to get serious with regina and she told him that they were moving too fast.
I think this show and Reba are the best sitcoms The WB have and i hope they're smart enough to keep them.
IT JUMPED WHEN IT FIRST PREMIERED...very dumb sitcom...only fools would support or watch this crap...i would never send my child to a school with faculty such as the ones in this program...that lovita character is so ghetto she needs to be in sanitation
I think steve harvey jumped the shark when regina and steve started actually dating. It was different because they had waited 5 season's so hook up with each other and that made the show different
Will Regina give Steve some, for goodness sakes. How many television shows have we watched over the years with some crazy, bootywhipped guy, always infatuated with somebody who won't give them the time and day.
The Steve Harvey Show Officially Jumped The Shark The Day Lori Beth Denberg was added to the cast. She was so annoying. They should have kept the Lady Of Rage as that chick Coretta.
This show jumped the shark when after Season 2, those damn writers wrote out the character Aiesha, played by Ariyan A. Johnson. What in the blue hell made them do that?!!!!! Ariyan A. Johnson was beautiful and talented redhead with the looks that matched!!! She should have been kept on the show until the last episode! She wore the most beautiful outfits on the show, because she was beautiful from head to toe. I mean, she looked great in miniskirts for crying out loud!!!!! If I had her for a girlfriend or a girlfriend just like her, I would be one happy man. And that's what I think!!!!!
The Steve Harvey Show JTS the day they went and found that walking stereotype named Lovita. She was just loud and trashy.
I agree with the last post - Lovita is the most annoying, trashy character ive witnessed with the world's worst voice. She'd look waaaaay better with longer hair too. And that Lori Beth is a sad pathetic whiny cow as well.
I'm a big fan of THE STEVE HARVEY SHOW. I'm a BIGGER fan of STEVE. This show was wonderful. The whole cast was great. Especially when Lovita was added. I loved how they teased us with the Steve and Regina thing. Only thing I didn't like was the last episode. They could have done a better job on that. It kind of left us hanging.
STEVE HARVEY need I say more, the guy is the best. This show was so enjoyable. So positive. Network didn't know what to do with this show. This show NEVER JUMPED, it was the network that decided to cancel this fine show. STEVE IS SO FINE.
When Denberg was added, along with appearance by other ALL THAT cronies, this show JTS. Great show prior to her, though.
Recently saw an episode where Steve Harvey had Puff Daddy & Snoop Dog on the show & Steve told these 2 to end the East Coast & West Coast rivalry. Both the rappers kiss & make up. That made me sick. No wonder why rap music sucks today. Other than Eminem, 50 Cent ,& Ludacris rap music pretty much sucks & so does Steve Harvey & his crummy show.
Steve Harvey never jumped the shark, but as with most shows, the first season was the best. The episodes were about Steve and the kids and high school issues with only a couple of episodes with Steve trying to get with Regina. The show went a little downhill by season 2 when they brought in Aisha and Lovita. Aisha was not funny at all and Lovita and Cedric getting together mixed in with Steve and Regina trying to get together took away from the show's plot with Steve and the kids. By the later episodes, it was basically Steve and Regina and Ced and Lovita with the B story focusing on the kids (who looked like they were about 30 by the show end). The saving factor on why Steve Harvey did not jump the shark was because of Steve himself. His jokes would have me laughing all the time. Sorry Ced, but you were not funny at all, but Lovita was cute though. RIP Merlin Santana
This show was one of the better sitcoms to come out in recent years. Good writing, good cast chemistry, however, I stopped watching when they added Lori Beth Denberg. She is annoying, and all she does is yell her lines. Lori Beth, this is not "All That," and to be honest, you weren't funny on that show, and you're even worse on this show. Also, RIP Merlin Santana 1976-2002
I never really jumped, but I do agree that Lori Beth ruined the show, but Steve and Cedric keep the show a float. However I think the show, lost a lot its luster when Sara and Sophia left the show after the first season. The show was supposed to be about Steve teaching a bunch of not so bright street kids. When the original girls left, it lost a little bit of the street edge, though Romeo did his best to keep the street edge, until Lydia showed up and completely killed all of the street edge away from the class.
This show didn't jump at all. It was a great cast and it was funny. It had me laughing. My favorite characters were Cedric and Steve. It was sad to see it go but it had to end eventually.
A surprisingly decent show considering I never did give it, nor would have given it the time of day when it was first run on the usually godawful WB network. Now the Steve Harvey Show has been resurrected in syndication on the TBS Superstation and has far surpassed my low initial expectations. Yes, there are aspects about the show that are unrealistic compared to a real high school, but who cares? The Steve Harvey Show was never intended to be some sanctimonious, high horse, moralizing afterschool special seeking to change the world or tackle serious adolescent problems like The Cosby Show got to be after awhile. It's simply a fun, lightweight show that makes you laugh, with respectable characters and clean humor to boot. Never jumped.
I used to love this show. I have been a big fan of Steve Harvey and loved his Me and the Boys show on ABC. I picked up this show on WTBS and enjoyed it very much. I absolutely loved Lovita; she is incredibly talented. I also liked the girl who played Lidia Liza Gutman, as well as Cedric. I enjoyed that the show was about intelligent, black people, but still could play with the ghetto culture. However, it lost me when Bulelthead (who was funny) asked Steve to help him, and Steve replied that he "really don't like to help white people". I tried to laugh that off, but that kind of racism does not belong in any show.
