Question Living Single Boned the Fish When...

http://www.bonethefish.com/viewtopics.php?3171

Quote:
Living Single is an American television sitcom which aired for five seasons on FOX from August 1993 until January 1998. The show centered on the lives of six African American friends who share personal and professional experiences while living in a Brooklyn brownstone. Throughout its run, Living Single became one of the most popular African-American sitcoms of its era, ranking among the top five in African-American ratings in all five seasons. The series was produced by Yvette Lee Bowser in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Living Single boned the fish when Kyle left for London at the end of Season 4, Sinclair moved in with Overton and they brought in Ira Lee "Tripp" Williams to replace Kyle.

First off, the hilarious and well written insults between Maxine and Kyle were gone. Second, I never called for Mel Jackson in any role (it's just something about him that screams obnoxious). Third, now that I think about it, it was strange seeing a guy share an apartment with two girls after Sinclair left.

That NY DJ that moved into Kyle's old apartment once he left was completely unnecessary.

Overall though, Seasons 1-4 were solid. In terms of its style of humor (whitty/sophisticated), it's like the anti-Martin (Martin had a low-brow/slapsticky style of humor)

  • Other Thoughts:

Living Single went down the hill when Sinclair and Overton got married, they wrote Kyle off to London, Sinclair got pregnant by Kyle invitro, and Regine left the show.
Except for the first few episodes this sitcom was golden from beginning to end. Sure, it got a little wonky there at the end but still funny. You do realize, of course, that this was the second incarnation of "The Golden Girls"? Following the first incarnation, "Designing Women" (Golden Girls with a younger cast and moved up the east coast), "Living single was Golden Girls with a MUCH younger BLACK cast moved even farther up the east coast. See, Khadijah was Julia who was Dorathy; Regine was Suzanne who was Blanche and Synclair was Charlene who was Rose. Which I guess leaves Max as Mary Jo as Sophia...uh, I'll have to get back to you on that one. But whatever it copied it consistantly made me laugh and I will always thank it for that. (My one beef - what was up with always having Khadija being the object of desire for all these really gorgeous men? Where they trying to fend off the rumors that Queen Latifah is gay? Me thnks they doth protest too much.)
When Fox became obsessed with the World Series. Since it kept being put off, everyone forgot about it. Also when Kyle left I knew it was over. And, the addition of the guy roomate was okay, but the addition of Idalis sucked. I love this show! I watch it everyday. It still is one of the best to me.
For Kim Fields Freeman, there IS life after Tootie.
This was one of the best shows in television history. It never jumped until the series was coming to an end and Regine moved out and Kyle went to London and MAXINE got pregnant invitro with Kyles baby.I didn't want this show to end.
Never Jumped. It wasn't as good in the last season, after Kyle left, but it wasn't close to jumping. Too bad it was cancelled, this show was awesome.
This show didn't really start to suck until after Max and Kyle decided to get together. Of course the entire six episodes of the final season were horrible. I just want to mention that the success of this show led to the creation of NBCs friends. They simply made the characters a bit more white, and changed the boy to girl ratio. Friends just happened to appear the season after Living Single. Think about it...
I am so glad I am not the only one who saw the Living Single- Golden Girls connection! I was never a Designing Women viewer, however. And I like you, I could also never figure out what to do when I got to Max and Sophia! The others match up perfectly, though.
    One Word : SCOOTER
This show, one of the few great black comedies in history was our only voice. white people had friends, frasier, with few, or in friends case no ethnic people of any kind occurring. living single is the most accurate depiction of black single life and every episode is hilarious.
This was one of the few shows on TV that wasn't an embarrassment to the black community. The writers didn't give in to the norm and resort to the insulting introduction of either a drug addict, tragic mulatto, thief with a heart of gold or a baby's mama. Another plus was that this show made the wise decision to hire black writers to write about black people - what a novel idea! The combination of the great cast and excellent writing made this a classic. The only real disappointment is that, with the exception of Kim Coles on The Geena Davis show and a few episodes of Frasier, none of these actors seem to have found another show. Perhaps we should bring them all back for a "very special" Living Single: The Mid Life Crisis Years.
When Kim Fields character had to go for her first mammogram and she was scared.
man, this show was a stinker. "Max, you know my friend Kareem Abdul Jabar." ridiculous situations: a young woman wins the lottery and starts a major music magazine; a hot shot investment banker whose best friend is a janitor-who only seems to hang out with the janitor; a "brilliant' lawyer who never goes to court or the office. lame theme song too. the sad thing is that the cast was so much better than the weak material the writers stuck them with.
When Regine (Kim Fields) moved out and got married, and they moved a male roommate in (Mel Jackson), also when Kyle went to London and Maxine got pregnant and wasn't sure who the father was. It was a very good show, but up until everyone had gotten married and developed relationships and what not.....
When the show started, everyone was so slim and trimmed-but you can tell with each new season, the women cast except for Maxine were turning into incredibly huge. Man if and to think Maxine was eating everything in site...if the show went on for one more year...Sinclair wouldn't have been able to jump ship let along jump a shark! Now when I watch reruns...I can tell what season the show is on just by seeing how much weight Sinclair gained!
To the person who posted above...Man, you've got it all wrong! Khadijah didn't win the lottery to start the magazine, she got a loan from a bank. It was shown in a flashback episode. Overton is a handyman, not a janitor, and he only lives with Kyle, the investment banker, because they grew up together in Cleveland and Overton was looking for a place to stay in NY. Living Single was a great show, and even though some of the plots did go a little overboard (i.e. when Khadijah dated Grant Hill), it did show blacks in a positive light and never had to revert to special episodes to stay afloat. Those ridiculous plots you're complaining about are way better than the stereotypical stuff you see on today's black sitcoms! Before you comment on something, make sure you know what you're talking about!
This show was "Friends" before it's time. Only Living Single was funny and their characters showed growth.
This show was very funny during the first three years, but then it started get hokey and the characters (mostly Maxine) became over-the-top. Maxine went from a slightly arrogant, yet intelligently funny lawyer to this bombastic Amazonian dragonlady who became a cliche of her former self. Overton and Sinclair's engagement and wedding was too much, they were beginning to sicken me. And suddenly Regine winds up becoming the roommate who can't get a date, which is usually the role Khadijah plays. There were some gems from the 4th season, but the show didn't feel the same anymore. This eventually led to the trainwreck 5th season (new cast members, Max gets pregnant, Regine & Kyle leave), which was thankfully cancelled despite letters to FOX demanding to keep it on the air. "Living Single" could have been the new "Golden Girls" of it's generation, instead it became the painful final years of "Designing Women".
Probably One of the Most Underrated Shows Ever Produced on Television. If Only The SUITS at Fox would of just left it Alone!!!. The Characters where great all six of them , Not One Stereotype in the cast. I miss it.... 'Golden Girls' begot 'Designing Women' which Begot Living Single' which begot 'Friends'
I just couldn't vote for this show Jumping the Shark although when they brought a guy in to live with them I had a hard time viewing the show the same. It also hurt when Kyle moved away. I don't know what the people in charge could have been thinking about when they let him go off the show. That's the equivalent of Barry Sanders retiring from the Lions, (IT JUST CANT SURVIVE!!) The positives for Black America is unprecedented in this show. You have young people that are totally motivated, intelligent, and not afraid to be who they are, maybe that's why corporate American cancelled it even though the ratings were high?. I did think that the marriage between Overton and Sinclair totally said OK we give up, go ahead and cancel the show. Or maybe I was just jealous because "I" WANTED TO MARRY THAT GORGEOUS VOLUPTUOUS WOMAN.
I don't think it jumped. I didn't see much of the last season, but this was a great show, MUCH better than Friends, I think it paved the way for Friends, unfortunately. I was sad that it didn't last longer. No more lusting for Overton....damn but that man was sexy!
Well, I found the Sophia-Maxine connection. I remember all those funny but mischievous little anecdotes that Sophia would say about Blanche being the town whore and let's face it. Max and Regine stayed at each other's throat. When they introduced Mel Jackson as Ira Lee Williams III (country ass name), the showed JTS big time. I also believed that Overton and Kyle had a thing going on between each other. They were probably gay! Also when Overton and Synclair got married and Synclair inherited some sense the show really went down hill. Furthermore, they should have never introduced Bumper Robinson as Ivan. Ivan was gay for real and that's no joke!
Living Single was really good until Kyle and Regine went off the show and they bought in Mel and his chickenheaded ex girlfriend. There was no point in him even being on there, all he did was butt into everyone's conversations, put in his two cents worth, and leave the room. They didn't have time to develop him since it was the last season so I don't know why they even bothered with him or why they bought his ex girlfriend in the picture, we all know she was supposed to replace Regine in the last couple of episodes like Mel was supposed to replace Kyle. Sorry you can't replace them, so you shouldn't have tried. At least we did have Kyle in the last episode, but we still missed Regine. I'll admit the last episode was good, even though I would have preferred Mel and his girlfriend out of it and Regine in it. Living Single almost made it without adding annoying cast members or losing cast members, but they had to mess it up in that last season.
When Max and Kyle got together. I was already a loyal fan but those episodes had me riveted. I also kept pulling for Ragine to get a man but one that truly loved her regardless of his financial status. While she was pretentious she also exhibited a warmth that I found sexy and very attractive. I also loved it when Kyle stood up for Ragine in the episode where his boss spread distorted versions of their date around the office.
never jumped, but I never watched the show when it was it was "live'. I rarely watch sitcoms, but I've become addicted to the reruns. I love the positive light it shows black people and their relationships. and the fact that each are their own person. so far they have not aired Kyle leaving, Max preggers... maybe because they realized that the viewers hated it.
Everyone talks about the similarities between this show and Golden Girls and Designing Women, but how about this show & Sex and the City? Yeah, I know Sex & the City is based on a book, but you can't help but notice the connections. Four single, professional women in New York looking for love. One sexy one (Regine-Samantha), the one who gets married (Synclaire-Kristin Davis, can't think of the character), the glue that holds them together (Khadijah-Carrie), and the loud feminist (Maxine-Miranda). And they say "Girlfriends" is a rip-off...
First off I would like to say that Living Single is in my opinion one of the best shows ever to hit television. It was entertaining without being obscene. Which is something we rarely see nowadays. What jumped on this show was the fifth "season" (if you choose to call it a season). Much respect to all of the original cast members, but these new additions just made this show plummet to the bottom. The 5th season had it's good points, like when Maxine had her spiritual awakening with a client she was defending, and when Synclaire dressed as a man. But when balanced with the mediocre performance of "Tripp", the former was completely outweighed. What really took the cake was when Kyle and Regine left the show. Without them no show, I'm sorry no one can replace the original cast members not in this show or any other show it just never works out and programs almost always decline when this happens. We need more programs with positive young black people. I don't care what anybody says "Friends" copied the show idea for themselves, and I am a 23 white female.
I honestly think that Living Single was always good. True, it wasn't the same after Kyle, and then Regine, left, but it was still very much worth watching. And I, for one, always wanted to see Max and Kyle get together. I was so upset when it was cancelled. It could have and should have lasted for the rest of the fifth season, and then had a sixth season, especially if Kyle and Regine came back for good. The cast and the writers were so talented and so funny. And the show is so much better than Friends.
The show never jumped!!!!!! It couldn't since it was copied by the creators of "Friends". But, since "Friends" is on a major network and the cast is entirely white, the entire world thinks that it was an original concept.
The show never JTS! This show was, by far, the best Black show of the 90s. Sure, it got pitiful in the last season, with Kyle and Regine leaving (due to personal reasons--T.C. and Kim were never fired), but those episodes were pretty decent, too. I am glad that they found a way to end the show (although it should have never been cancelled). It never portrayed the stereotypes of African-Americans. The show made us look good. The relationships between the characters were realistic and the occupations were cool. "Friends" is a rip-off of "Living Single," but it was on at the same time--the EXACT same time and day (Thursday nights). "Friends" aired in 1996 or 1997 (I was in high school when it started). I remember everyone talking about "Friends" and no one talked about "Living Single." No other popular show from the 90s can compete with "Living Single." The WB and UPN tried, but failed. Admit it, you can't repeat perfection.
Maxine was my favorite. I think she is fine. I loved the way she would bombard the cast with her funny, outspoken words of wit. I liked the 4th season the best. The first few episodes were a little dumb, but after that it got better, better, excellent!!!!!!!!! I think, no I demand they bring this show back on.
Never jumped. One of the best shows to hit tv. I loved the Max and Kyle love story! These two were hilarious. I loved all the characters and they seemed to gel really well together. I wasn't fond of Ira towards the end but all in all great show! I thought Scooter and Khadijah were cute together! I miss this show---love the reruns and wish it would come back!!!!!! Continued success to all the actors and actresses!
Aside from the Maxine-Kyle fling, I think this show jumped from Day One. First, are we supposed to believe Latifah/Kahdijah is not a lesbian? She probably eats more fish than a seal. And for the poster who claims that shows like Friends and Frasier don't cast "ethnic people of any kind", it may come as a surprise that white people have ethnicity, too. The best thing about LS was Maxine, she was hilarious. The rest of the cast is bunk.
As soon as Bumper Robinson appeared on the show. Every actor should start looking for another job when this guy comes on their show. Maybe since Friends are including blacks on their show, they can add Bumper to kill this show. Bumper kills every show he's on: Night Court, Amen, A Different World, Living Single, his own show on UPN(3??), and now I heard he was on Sabrina, the teenage witch, which is now on the series finale. He guest starred on Family Matters, but they were smart not to have a regular role for him. Everyone talks about Ted McGinley, but Bumper Robinson is WORSE!!!!! At least Ted was funny on Married with Children and the show stayed on for few years, but Bumper shows get cancelled the year of his arrival, all except Night Court.
This show JTS from the very beginning for just being on the air. It did not get enough credit from critics and the Black Community for being a show depicting up and coming (and not so up and coming) young Black people, especially when the Black community complained (and still does) about the lack of positive portrayals of Blacks and an all Black cast. I wanted to rebut a few comments, about the last season and Bumper Robinson, and life after Living Single. From what I understood, the series was supposed to end with the marriage of Overton and Sinclair. I can't recall what happened, but the show was picked back up and thrown on for a follow up season. Most would agree the last season wasn't as good as the previous season, but the moment when Max found out she was pregnant was Kyle's baby was worth it all. As for Bumper Robinson, did the people writing disparaging comments forget he was on since the very beginning? Hello. A show is a success (financially and otherwise) after it hits three seasons I believe since that means it can…go into SYNDICATION!!! Then it can live on in re-runs on our TV screens instead of faded memories in the hearts of it devoted fans. And life does go on outside of TV. Though Kim Coles’ career is more visible being on televisions (let’s not forget John Henton co-starred or was otherwise featured in several TV series since then). All the other cast members continued to work in the industry in guest starring roles on other shows, featured in films, worked behind the scenes producing, writing, forming companies, performing on stage or directing and worked in the music field. Just because they are not in our living rooms every night or once a week doesn’t mean they aren’t enjoying success in the entertainment industry. But no matter how we pick at it, there has never been another TV show depicting single Black people outside of college, in various social/economical levels (street to elite as it were) in such a positive light. Maybe not as realistic, but hey, it its TV and yet there’s still some realism shining through). I feel Bill Cosby started that trend that will hopefully transcend the first All Black 1 hour Drama we currently/finally have in 2003.
Didn't jump. Definitely a rare show that still doesn't get credit for a lot of modern day shows about 4-5 single roommates of the same sex living and experiencing life together. Fox was cold-hearted to just pull the plug on us like that. What about Maxine's baby? The future of Overton and Sinclair? Flavor magazine? Did Regine ever find a man? Now, we'll never know. Definitely one of my favorite shows. I love watching the reruns.
As a Black writer/performer this show gave me hope. I agree it WAS one of the best shows ever featuring a Black cast (second only to Frank's Place in my opinion). The first three years SPARKLED, but I kinda lost touch with it what with the defections, marriages--I think the finale is the only episode I watched the last season. To amplify an earlier comment--DREW CAREY said 'Friends' was a WHITE VERSION of this show! (How often do ya hear THAT?). I have to agree with the person who said the men falling all over Latifah was a BIT OF A STRETCH--I could care less if she's straight, gay or bi, but ain't no way studs like Cress Williams to name just one, would pass up Regine for her. NO OFFENSE, ladies, I'm just tellin' it like it is!!! Just as you ladies know you would TACKLE Heavy D to get to Wesley Snipes! I forgot till I read it here that this is on in reruns--gotta catch some
For the person defending Bumper Robinson, I don't recall, nor my friend who watched the every episode, remember Bumper being on until their last FULL year. Yes, it went into syndication, but once again, Bumper is a death blow to a show. Can you refute other episodes? Amen, Different World, Living Single, GrownUps, Guys Like Us, Three, Sabrina the Teenage Witch are all in his portfolio and all were cancelled. So tell me, if you were an actor/actress and saw Bumper on your show, would you plan on being there for awhile??
For me it was when SEXY KYLE left. Also when that light skin roommate came on the show. What the hell was that all about. Although he was FINE, he had no chemistry with the others. I kind of liked the romance with Scooter and Queen. But it wasn't believable. I love Queen but she seems straight up gay to me. MAX WAS DA' BOMB. One of the greatest actress' around. She was SOOOOOO funny. The show was great!!!! It was just like when me and my girls get together and talk. Also I loved the way they talked so free about Kim Fields fake hair. NOW THAT'S ON DA' REAL
This show was the BOMB !!! This was one of the best African-American shows on television ( along with Good Times, The Jeffersons, and Family Matters ). Khadijah, Synclaire, Max, and Regine were lovely Beauty Queens and they were absolutely funny, especially Max because she always had something funny to say or always did something funny by showing emotions, she is definitely my favorite character on the show. I also liked Overton because he too was funny, he looks out for people especially his peers Kyle and the Girls, and he looks like someone you could spend an entire day with, fun to hang around. But what was up with Regine and all these wigs ? One episode she would have a short hair wig on and the next one she would wear a long hair wig, what was the deal with that ? " Living Single " the #1 African American Television Program.
Does anyone think that the show was meant to end in the fourth season. The series finale ended with in the new year episode, everyone moving out with their boyfriend/girlfriend or getting married and Kadija going to get scooter. Correct me if i'm wrong but the pilot ended with all the girls in the bathroom getting ready for work and then my girl came on the radio then they all started to sing along. I don't remember the plot but I remember that. In the forth season finale was when Kadija was getting an award for Flavor and they reminisced about the beginning of flavor and when Sinclair moved in, and at the end their just chilling in the bathroom after the ceremony and my girl comes on and again they all sing along with it. Coincidence maybe but I think that it was originally meant to be the end of the show.
This show never jumped. But instead of comparing it to Golden Girls,I think it's more like Sex and the City. Kadijah is carrie, Max is Miranda, and Sinclaire is Charlotte. See the connection?
I've noticed that a lot of people agree with me about the fifth season causing the shark to jump. Apparently, no one realized that "Living Single" the producers knew in the middle of the fourth season LS may not be renewed for a fifth season. Writing off Kyle and Regine and by Marrying Overton and Synclair allowed the writers to tie up loose ends. Formulaically, every sitcom wants to end with a wedding, hence Overton and Sinclair. Initially, the wedding was suppose to air during sweeps, but the World Series kept bumping the episode. The writers were under the impression that there would be no fifth season, however, under viewer protest, Fox decided renew LS as apart of the Fall line up. Unfortunately, the writers could not recover from the conclusions hired from the season before, hence the sucky fifth season. From what I remember, the fifth season was cancelled the following January, but I could be wrong.
Probably When Max and Kyle finally got together in a Max's drunken, depressed (she was suspended and eventually resigned from her law firm) stupor. One just knew that the show's writing staff had begun to run out of ideas. Even in the reruns, Max begins to morph into a bafoon of sorts and if you watch Kim Field's in her final episodes, it seems she really doesn't want to be there. (This is confirmed by her not even returning for a brief appearance on the extremely weak series finale.) But, the performances by the cast rose above all the drama that had to be going down on the network end. Like Erika's (Max) talent for improvisation, particularly during the episode in which she's fired. Max is confronting her client in her bosses' office when the angry client crosses and walks out the door and obviously mistakenly gets her hair caught on the coat rack. Erika calmly gets up and releases the caught hair from the rack without cracking a smile! What a pro! The most memorable and nostalgic episode for me, though, was the pilot where they sing "My Girl" in the bathroom. I was a freshmen in high school then, and I just knew this show was gonna be something refreshing and new for television, let alone black television. Another favorite of the earlier episodes is when Max wins her case, after going up against another lawyer who had never lost a case. This is where the intelligence of the writers as well as the actress really begins to peak its head out. It was when all these new characters began to pop up like the Jamaican magazine writer, Scooter and those weak ass final installments of the male roomate and the girl who sublet Kyle's apartment...horrible! I've read a lot of comparisons to Golden Girls on here and I can't help but notice that The G Gals never resorted to forcing it's audience to get used to extremely unlikable characters, on top of missing our regulars (Regine & Kyle). When this is even considered, it's time for the writers and producers to go ahead and bow out gracefully. At least we got a finale episode out of this show. Oftentimes, the networks will unsympathetically pull a show and discard it like a red-headed stepchild. But, I did love the fun they had sometimes in episodes like "Up The Ladder To the Roof" where Kadijah has a dream about she and the girls as a girl group back in the 60s. Hilarious! And, does anyone remember when the episode about the new neighbor choosing one of the girls to date first aired? I remember there being this call-in voting promotion (a la American Idol). America supposedly chose Kadijah to which she says to the camera after the lousy date "Ya'll did this to me! I thought ya'll was my peeps!" Huh-larious! It would be kewl if in reruns, they'd alternate endings to that episode and show Max, Regine and Synclair being chosen. That'd be awesome. Anyhoo, thnx for following me on a trip down memory lane. I look forward to reading responses to my post
I loved this show and why was it canceled. This show four smart, sassy, sexy, black single women that brought true stories to that show. I been looking for the DVD'but can't find it. Living Single did not get the back up like Friends, will and Grace, simpsons or the Fraiser show. I believe that this show had the sponsors funding backings like the other NBC shows it will still be on and the way they ended the show was a rip and insults to the fans that stay with the show to the very end. I blame the writers not the actors they can't control the writers. Warner Bros. Shame on you. This show never jump the shark.
Living Single jumped the shark in a big way when all of a sudden for no reason Max decided to be indifferent and let Kyle date whomever he wanted. Give me a break! Like men are that plentiful!
Living Single jumped the shark when Kyle and Regine left. I didn't like the addition of Mel Jackson to the cast. The show got really boring after Synclair and Overton were married.
I think Living Single had too many athletes as guests. I wonder who was responsible for this.
'Living Single' did not meet the shark. This program lists in the Top 10 situation comedies ever shown on the small screen. The writing was ahead of it's time, acting-superb. I can not even praise one original-series actor over another as they are all so talented. I savor 'Living Single' in syndication...
I really liked when Kyle and Max got together. Those were really funny episodes. But, then Kyle left and that really sucked. And then they brought that new roommate in. I didn't see a point of him being on the show. They showed him about 5 seconds then he was gone again. The last episodes were okay. Of course I still watched them. Because I loved that show. They should have a reunion with everyone there. Just to show where they ended up and everything.
The reason Kyle went to Japan and Regine left the show was it had been cancelled, and they were tying up the characters stories. They had to contrive a little. This show never jumped and is still a HOOT!!!
"Living Single" never jumped the shark and I can tell you why. Living Single was a great show and it was popular upon african-americans and it showed us all in a positive light. I mean the show was great from start to finish and I don't see why people in this column says it jumped the shark when Kyle and Regine left. Okay,it was a huge hole when they left but the show was still wonderful. The reveal that Max was pregnant was not a "who's the daddy" question. She was inseminated. And Erika Alexander and Queen Latifah some of the best performances when Max told Khadijah that she was pregnant. Honestly, I think that Regine could have been with Russell. It could have been a great dysfunctional romance. The series finale wasn't weak either. Khadijah and Scooter got back together. Kyle returned in time to find out about the baby. Synclaire got an offer for television show and Regine (who didn't appear on the episode) finally had her millionaire. Although my favorite seasons were the third and fourth and I have hundreds of fave episodes, but Living Single never jumped the shark. They had talented writers and actors and i'm so happy to announce that they have a DVD of the first season coming in January 2006.
When the network came this close to canceling the show, then brought it back after a write-in campaign. Then they ruined the show by bringing in the male cousin and allowing Sinclair and Overton to get married.
I can't believe that so few people have mentioned any real moments in this great show! My personal favorite is when the girls decide to go to a club and, for kicks, they all want to use fake names. After Kadijah, Max and Regine all choose sophisticated names, Synclaire chooses "Shaquan"! Well, flash forward to the club...Max is preyed upon by a gold-toothed nightmare (Goldie) who asks for her name. She promptly says "Shaquan" much to Synclaire's dismay! Well, very end of the show, the girls are sitting around talking about how bad the club scene is, and the phone rings. Kadijah answers, and it's Goldie looking for Shaquan. Kadijah replies "This is Shaquan's sister, Seboubalah!" This episode has prompted my daughter and I to refer to each other as Shaquan and Seboubalah whenever we are in a situation that we know we'll never see the people we're around again! This show is a true classic!
I personally loved the show and I still watch it (via Tivo). It was always funny to see how Kyle and Max would react to each others different moods. I didnt grow up with friends like that and I always thought that it was refreshing to see real characters.
This show was pretty good till the end whereas Kim Fields left. By the way to the posters above. "Friends" was a clone of "Seinfeld," clearly. "Living Single" was a clone of "Designing Woman" type TV shows.
Great show in the beginning! LS jumped the shark most definitely when Overton and Synclaire got married. That final season was a disappointment for all loyal fans of the show. (Kyle leaving the show and Regine missing from several episodes) The show started to go away from "living single", it focused a lot on Synclaire's acting, Max's court cases and less on relationships and friendships. When they added Tripp, that killed the show for sure.
I enjoyed Erika Alexander who had been wasted in her one year on Cosby. Even though in real life Latifa was the youngest of the four "roommates", being so heavy and so butch she looked like the other girls' mother.
