1st & Ten is a situation comedy television program that aired between 1984 and 1991 on the American cable television network Home Box Office. Featuring series regulars Delta Burke, veteran Reid Shelton, and O.J. Simpson, it was one of cable's first attempts to lure the lucrative sit-com audience away from the "Big Three", by taking advantage of their freedom to include occasional cursing and nudity.

I can understand that but I'm not going to let OJ ruined my love of a tv show. I like the Naked Gun Movies too. He is what he is.

  A classic late night HBO series of the 80's about a wild and crazy football team! Featuring the excellent ensemble of the sexy Delta Burke as the team owner-well, she was then, and the fine thespian OJ Simpson as the team's GM-gee, whatever happened to him? But they did have a funny cast of past players and journeymen actors, too, but they never murdered anyone!

  "Lightning Quick" Mace Petty. He was the first character listed after the lead and was only in one episode. Bubba and Jethro. Mad Dog and Dr. Death. Ahhhhh!!!!! The good ol' days.
  An Excellent show!!! Football, beer drinking and T& A! The perfect formula for success.
  This show was too damn inconsistent. One season Matts lover from Melrose is throwing passes the next some numbnut is chasing a bull a corral.
  1st and Ten never really jumped. It was corny and funny. But, don't forget Ted McGinley. McGinley joined the cast for at least one season. The same year that OJ joined the cast.
  When Christopher Meloni left the show to co-star in "The Fanelli Boys" on NBC. He was the most interesting character in the 2nd to last season of the show when he was Vito Del Greco, then changed his name to Johnny Gunn and led the team to the Championship Bowl, where they lost. He actually showed a shred of acting ability as well... unlike many of the other "stars" like Shannon Tweed. When he left he was replaced by a character named Mac who was some crusty old QB who was as much a farce of an actor as OJ and the rest of the gang, the whole storyline was that he'd never made it to the big game. Then when he actually got there his stupid character got hurt and they put in the character of Lenny Salvino -- who was an ongoing joke on the series as being the most pathetic QB of all time but had a guaranteed contract to large to trade or cut him. Suddenly he completes the WINNING PASS of the Championship Bowl to Miracle Miles Coolidge (the name Miracle, I guess, says it all) and takes off his helmet to reveal he's David Leasure (formerly Joe Isuzu and also was on Empty Nest). They ask if he's going to Disneyland and he says "What for? I own it and 3 others just like it". Even in winning it all Mac is overlooked! Ha!
  How could any young guy not love this show? Real football players (O.J., Lawrence Taylor) crass jokes, and plenty of naked tates for everyone!
  I forgot about this show. Delta Burke was quite the piece of ass on this show. I used to watch it my my friend's house because we didn't have cable. JTS when they brought in the "Queen Of Soft Porn" Shannon Tweed.
  This Jumped when Tom Yanessa (Jason Beghe) joined up. Not that I have anything against Behge as an actor or human being, it's just ludicrous to believe a guy could just walk onto a pro football team's training camp and become their starting QB, even with playing ball in the Army. Also, at the same time T.D. Parker (O.J. Simpson) finds he can't play anymore, so he is made an assistant coach on the spot. Huh? The Bulls entered training camp short a coach? Then the next season, he becomes the team's General Manager, without a day's experience in the front office. A shame really because the first season had hilarious moments, with Diane interplay with her nephew Roger and Roger's mob connections. My favorite bit a dialogue comes from a conversation among Diane, Roger, and Coach Ernie de Nardo where the possibility of a trade comes up. Diane is uneasy about trading human beings but Ernie says "Don't worry, they're football players. They ain't human." Diane says that's a terrible thing to say!" "Oh yeah? Just come down to the locker room after practice and watch Bubba and Jethro eat light bulbs." Great stuff. What happened to those great season One writers?
  The main thing I associate with this show is that I first started seeing it in reruns on Saturday night, at about 1 AM, during Summer '94 (in other words, during the accusation and the start of the trial and so on). I couldn't help noticing that the TV station showing it (in the Houston area; I don't know about others) didn't do anything unusual with the repeats (which had started before the murders). They didn't yank the show. (They did in September, but reruns change around in September anyway, just like new TV.) And they also didn't draw any attention to it ("Look ! A show with O.J. !!!) by showing it a lot earlier on the weekend. It just stayed on in the middle of the night until September. That, and the next few months, made me think of something. O.J. Simpson was in who knows how many movies and TV shows, but as far as I know, TV didn't go out of its way to rerun them during those months. And it's hard to imagine that NOT being considered a DRAW. (A silly, morbid draw, but "silly and morbid" is practically the whole mania over that subject in a nutshell.) Anyway, maybe I'm making too much of it, but I think the people in charge of movie & TV show reruns (and who knows THEIR names?) were the unsung heroes of the whole dreary "O.J." business, just by keeping out of it. None of this has anything to do with the show itself, but I liked it also.
  Jumped when Delta left and Shannon joined. I've always enjoyed Shannon Tweed's "body of work"; but it was Delta Burke that made this show for me. I even watched the first couple of years of "Designing Women" hoping that Delta would return to her (early) "1st and Ten" figure. No such luck.
  1ST AND TEN was a great comedy. I believe it was the first running TV series on HBO. I thought firing Delta Burke was a mistake, but the show never jumped the shark. For a baby cable network, the show was daring and cutting-edge. State of the art television at the time.
  1st AND TEN, which, if memory serves, was the first continuing series on HBO, was very entertaining in the beginning. For me, the show jumped the shark when Delta Burke left and was replaced by Shannon Tweed. Burke was believable as the accidental owner of a football team. Tweed looked like she couldn't spell the word "football."
  Some of the criticisms on this page are fair. But say what you will about this show, I just really really like Marisol Nichols as Detective Karen Bettancourt.
