Thanks for the explanation of where Colgate got their inspiration for "Florient Air Freshener". I thought that was a weird name for a product but you made a lot of sense. I remember when watching the show on Me-Tv, I saw Philip Morris cigarettes on the counter and on the pharmacy shelves, I saw Colgate toothpaste and Wildroot Cream Oil. That was real nice to see.

As I've mentioned on the M3S board, I've seen Kellogg's Pop Tarts boxes in the M3S closing credits in the reruns that appeared on a local tv station. This was in a S10 episode, I think. Me-TV probably has the same prints as syndication, so it likely has the same Pop Tarts boxes appear.

Jehoden..That's right..There are a closing credit with a series of Kellogg's brands at the bottom right. I know this because I've uploaded one from a 10th season episode of My Three Sons on You Tube.

That is one of my favorite things about watching "Dobie Gillis", seeing all the sponsors. I love that!

Schmoopie..Anytime I get to see sponsor logo during the closing credits, I just get the tingles..I saw one last week on Cozi-Tv's airing of "The Deputy" starring Henry Fonda and Allen Case. I was wondering why the big gap at the bottom right and I saw the cornucopia of Kellogg's cereals and that explained all that..I was blown away and someone could have knocked me over with a feather!

Most 60s shows seemed to have a corner of the closing credits, from what I remember usually bottom right, for the sponsor's logo to appear. The Dick Van Dyke Show in syndication seems to have replaced that open space with an illustration of Dick, but most other 60s syndicated shows seem to leave the space empty.

As you may or may not know, plenty of Screen Gems shows have portraits/symbols to place in the sponsor's box during the closing credits for syndication airings such as "Bewitched"(animated Samantha), "Dennis the Menace"(as an animated fireman(represented with a tornado with ax)),"Donna Reed Show"(picture of Ms. Reed) and "The Andy Griffith Show" and
"Mayberry R.F.D" have illustrated drawings of "Mayberry" at the bottom right..Just to name a few.

Lightbulb And Now a Word from OUr (Invisible) Sponsor!

Most TV shows in the '50s and '60's had a corner space at the bottom of the screen for the sponsor's product(s) to make a final appearance. Among some of the others: S5 of "Hazel" (Parliament cigarettes and Crest toothpaste); "The Lucy Show" (Deep Magic facial cleansing lotion and Casual permanent hair color (both "by Toni"); "Petticoat Junction" (Ivory Soap, Ivory Liquid and Tide); "The Farmer's Daughter" (Miss Clairol hair color and Lark cigarettes); and "The Andy Griffith Show" (which showed all of the Post Cereals currently available. I remember a 1961 episode that showed Rice Krinkles, Post Toasties, Grape-Nuts, and a new product--Post Oat Flakes--among the Post items flipped on-screen every three or four seconds).

@peyton6769; The alternate sponsor of "The Deputy" was just as surprising. Kellogg's cereals alternated with General Cigar Company, which made Robert Burns cigarillos and Tiparillos (as in "should a gentleman offer a Tiparillo to a lady?"). I remember one commercial in which Henry Fonda's co-star, Allen Case, was driving his Studebaker Hawk around a winding mountain road while enjoying a Robert Burns cigarillo (sure as heck couldn't do it now!)...remarkable that image has stayed with me for over 50 years!...

Thanks Missy for the info about the alternate sponsor of "The Deputy"..When I saw the Kellogg's cereals during the closing credits of "The Deputy"--anyone could have knocked me over with a feather..I've seen 'The Andy Griffith Show" closing credits with the rotating boxes of Post cereals on YT(I enjoyed that)..

Missy, maybe you can help with a sponsor question..I heard that during the 5th season of "Bewitched", I heard that Quaker Oats dropped as a sponsor, to be replaced by "Kodak". My vibe says that Quaker Oats sponsored on alternating weeks with Kodak and Chevrolet for the 5th season. What's the real story? Thanks Missy

This weekend, Me-TV reran a S3 episode, "Like, Oh Brother" (OAD, 3/13/62), which had Dobie & Maynard having to help out with a group of young "delinquents" which their sociology professor, Dr. Burkhardt, played by future Mrs. Natalie Lane, Jean Byron, was attempting to help in order to pass her class. The tallest, and probably oldest, of the boys was played by Richard Correll, who was also playing Beaver's friend, Richard, on Leave It to Beaver around this time. Gary (sic) Walberg, later of The Odd Couple & Quincy, played one of the older gentleman who arranged for the group in their old neighborhood. The closing credits include pictures of Colgate/Palmolive products Halo shampoo, Colgate toothpaste, and Florient air freshener.

The next episode aired on Me-TV, "Names My Mother Called Me" (OAD, 3/27/62), featured more classic tv people, including Russell Collins (who about this same time played crotchety Ben on Twilight Zone's "Kick the Can"), Diane Sayer (Wally Cleaver's "Box Office Attraction" from S6 of LITB), and the original Ward Cleaver, Casey Adams (aka Max Showalter). It had pictures of CP products Wildroot cream oil, Colgate, & Halo, over the end credits. I assume that the sponsors like Colgate (and its competitors like Crest) have no problem with the sponsor products appearing on-screen, at least those that are still manufactured.

I remember seeing the MeTv airings when it aired a few years ago and I did have the pleasure of seeing a few of the CP products during the closing credits
