I wholeheartedly agree, Ashley is simply a nuisance in much of the show, but especially the later seasons, because she loses that "cuteness" factor of being a little kid, and somewhere later down the show's run, you just don't know what to do with her! I think of the episode in the last season where both she and Carlton want that Easter solo for their church, and after Carlton already made it hilarious (like always!), Ashley ruins it by singing "Can you paaaaaaaasssss the pooooooork? Dork!" Just NO.

not every character was supposed to be funny. i think that ashley and aunt viv were there to bring balance to the more extreme personalities.

ashley's immediate acceptance of, and bond with will, was the link for him to become more connected to the banks family.

though i do agree that her funniest moment was saying grace in the pilot episode, ha

I agree with you so much that Ashley was extremely annoying in that scene.
But she did have some interesting plotlines in later seasons, even if she was hardly ever funny anymore.

Ashley took a turn for the worse in the later seasons as far as attitude. Thinking she's above her whole family when her song is popular and not caring when Carlton ran off (the Princeton interview episode) are probably where it was the worst.

I thought Ashley was hilarious in the episode where she had a bully, and had to act "street crazy"; Will tried to show her how to do it, but it was a fail.

is it just me or did Ashley age a few years in the first season? she started off being nine or ten and ended up being twelve.

Well, the only one big problem about Ashley is both the way she was born in the Banks mansion and lived in the Banks mansion tightly for so long.

Ashley was definitely too sheltered, and would have been even more so if Uncle Phil had gotten his way more often. It's a good thing Will showed up, in that sense.

ashley was 17 when the show ended. she was moving to New York with Hilary to go the school of performing arts. how is that too old to be living in the mansion? uncle Phil didn’t even want her to leave in the first place. will and her older siblings were all older than her when they left home.

Ashley had always been level headed and kind. sure, she went through a rebellious phase, but she was just a teenager finding her way. she was a good person overall. never understood the criticism that got online.

Actually correction, during the ending, the Ashley character was 16 and actress Tatyana M. Ali, who played Ashley, was only 17.

Ashley was the first Banks child to be born in the Banks Mansion and lived for 16 years in her own life, which is too long and stressful for her. Nicky was the second Banks child to be born in the Banks Mansion, but he's not in worse condition as Ashley, due to the fact he lived in the mansion during his short-life living.

I think my favorite Ashley moment was when Viv dressed her as "Heidi comes to Harlem", and she told her:
"Mum. If you make me go to school like this, I'll write a book when I grow up."

Sheltered, as part of the strict mansion rules?

I would rather say that it was Uncle Phil's strict rules.
The girl was not even allowed to have a walkman because he wanted to control the music she listened to.

ashley transferred to a public school behind her parents back because she wanted to be around ‘real’ people. she got herself a job at a hotdog restaurant. how is this being spoiled - especially in comparison with Hilary?

Still, she is much less interesting to me than Carlton and Hilary.
I'm afraid she was too "normal" for my taste.
