I do indeed remember it. My older brother watched it a lot, and while I wasn't always familiar with the performers, this was the 70s, where, uhm...there wasn't anything else on (literally) after midnight!

Although I was around when it aired, I didn't really take notice of it until a syndicated version was attempted around 1982. It was a half-hour highlights show. It may have been called Best Of The Midnight Special.

I have seen some clips on bootleg DVDs and you tube. From what I can see, some of the shows were pretty eclectic in the way they mixed and matched musical guests and genres.

The Midnight Special sounds more like the title of a porno, but maybe I just have that kind of mind.

I enjoyed seeing the clips of TMS myself. I actually grew up on Solid Gold.

I remember when it premiered, Fall 1980. Dionne Warwick was the host.

Yeah I have to admit I was brought up on Solid Goldtoo. I was never too big on it, but its fun to watch the clips on Youtube for nostalgia and to see at times that show could be pretty cheesy.

I do remember The Midnight Special though.

I never saw Dionne host Solid Gold. I've only seen the Marilyn McCoo-hosted eps, since she was on the longest. I also remember seeing the likes of Air Supply, Laura Branigan and Sheena Easton perform on the show. According to the book Marilyn co-wrote with her husband, Billy Davis, Jr. (called Up, Up and Away), one of the contenders she beat out for the SG gig was Gladys Knight. The producers liked the chemistry between Marilyn and her first co-host Andy Gibb.

Getting back to The Midnight Special, when is this DVD supposed to come out? I'd love to watch it.

I remember when Andy Gibb hosted Solid Gold. Unfortunately, he wasn't on very long because of his drug and alcohol problems.

Plus he wouldn't show up for tapings at all. Not long after, he got fired from his stage role as Joseph in the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
