Default Was Sharon Gless in Season 1?

I realise that Sharon Gless wasn't the original actress to play Lacey. She was portrayed by Meg Foster in the first six episodes.

My question is,will Sharon Gless be seen on the current DVD release of season 1?

I don't know how they will package the DVDs, but I think this first release will be all Meg Foster.

Actually, Sharon Gless was the THIRD Cagney. In the TV movie pilot, Cagney was portrayed by Loretta Swit. Once C&L was picked up as a series, Swit was unavailable as she was still under contract with M*A*S*H. The pilot would be a good extra to include with the DVDs; I wonder if they will do that somewhere down the line??

Sharon Gless is on the first dvd release that comes out today. They have started the series on Season 2 but have labeled it "Season 1...the true beginning". Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly can be seen on the coverart.

That is strange. You'd think they'd include the Meg Foster episodes in it. I didn't really care for her that much but having those episodes would make it complete.

The actresses look so young looking in that photo. Well it was 25 years ago. Wow.

Meg Foster was the first to play Cagney on the TV series, but it is hardly mentioned that Loretta Swit played her in the original TV movie --- Tyne Daly was in the show since the very start.

Yes, Loretta Swit played Cagney in the pilot. She was still under contract with M*A*S*H, which is why the role of Cagney had to be recast when it went to series.

Loretta has stated in interviews she wishes she could have done that series.

I don't blame her - M*A*S*H was on its last legs by then and C&L was getting just as much acclaim as M*A*S*H.

Not to mention, it would have given her something else to be remembered for besides "Hot Lips".

It's sort of false advertising to call this "season 1" or "the true beginning."

It's like they're trying to whitewash Meg Foster from the picture.
