By request, I am putting this up tonight!
Janet puts the ball in her right hand, serves with her left, VERY HARD. It immediately lands to the left of Jack. He jumps in the sand to try and return the volly, but no luck. JANET: A point for us! (hi-fives Terri) JACK: (stunned) Janet! I've never seen you hit a ball like that! JANET: Let's just say I got a burst of energy! Ok Jack, you serve. Jack prepares for his serve, but not nearly as forceful as Janet. His serve is immediately returned by Terri. Her volley heads for Debralee. DEBRALEE: Watch that Jack! Debralee spikes the ball right in front of Janet. DEBRALEE: How about that! I scored! YAY! JACK: Good job! (the two of them hold hands, briefly) JANET: (obviously not happy) You think that's good, watch this! Janet looks at Debralee, with cold eyes. She prepares another forceful serve, aimed right at her. To both their surprises, Derbalee returns it, though weakly. Janet then does a powerful, and I mean POWERFUL spike right at her. In fact it was so powerful it hit Debralee right in her left knee. She falls down on the sand, holding her knee. DEBRALEE: OWWWW! TERRI: Stand back! I'm a nurse. Terri feels around Debralee's knee to possibly spot some problems. She then asks some basic questions. DEBRALEE: Will I be OK? TERRI: I think so. It doesn't look serious. For now, try and stay off it as much as you can. (she props Debralee up). If the pain continues or worsens, see a doctor. DEBRALEE: Man this knee hurts! It better go away soon! JACK: Here... do you want some water? DEBRALEE: That would be nice. JACK: We have some in our cooler. I can also put some ice on that knee. Put your arm around me, so I can help you walk. DEBRALEE: (puts arm around Jack) OK, let's go! Jack and Debralee go to the cooler. Terri has a discusted look on her face, straight at Janet. JANET: What's that look for? TERRI: What the hell's wrong with you? JANET: What? TERRI: What you're doing to Debralee is uncalled for! JANET: Like what? TERRI: You damn well know what! You hit that ball so hard right at her. You obviously don't care for Debralee at all! JANET: So what if I don't? TERRI: What did she do to you? JANET: Didn't you see them together? They were laughing, and even held hands for a few seconds. Look at how Jack was looking at her! TERRI: You should know Jack by now. He does that to most EVERY woman. We do that all the time, and even kiss. Does that mean Jack and I are a thing? JANET: Of course not! There's a big difference... I know both of you and that nothing would ever seriously happen. I don't know her at all! TERRI: So? Don't judge Debralee after knowing her for like five seconds. You need to grow up, Janet Wood. JANET: (angry) I need to grow up? What are you, my mother? I don't want that loose woman taking my man away. I'm gonna let Jack know who he should be with! You just wait! TERRI: You know what? I can't stop you, so if you want to continue to make an ass of yourself, go ahead! Terri runs over toward Jack and Debralee Janet stands there, plotting. While they were talking, Jack and Debralee also chatted. JACK: Here's the water, and your ice. DEBRALEE: Thanks. JACK: Sorry Janet was, well, how she was. DEBRALEE: I could tell she wasn't thrilled when I was around. Just a hunch, but is she your girlfriend or something? JACK: No, well at least not at the moment. We just live together; Terri does too. DEBRALEE: (playfully punches Jack in the arm) You sly dog you! JACK: It's not what you think! It's very innocent... well it was until a few nights ago! DEBRALEE: I don't think I want to hear the details. JACK: No, it's not like that, not exactly. Janet revealed she had a crush on me, and since we've known each other for eight years, I figured we might as well go on a real date and see if there's any sparks, you know? That was supposed to be Monday night, but now I don't know. DEBRALEE: That explains it. She probably saw us laughing and touching, and thought I was trying to steal you away. It's the classic case. JACK: You think so? DEBRALEE: I know so. You know, maybe I should just go. I've caused enough damage. JACK: Don't go! You are a very nice woman, and I want you to stay. Don't worry about Janet... Terri and I will straighten her out. DEBRALEE: Well, if you really want me to stay, I will. Terri walks over. TERRI: Is the knee feeling any better? DEBRALEE: A little. Jack and I were just talking. TERRI: Did Janet come up at all? JACK: How did you know? TERRI: Woman's intuition. Debralee, I'm sorry for what Janet did. DEBRALEE: It's in the past. Jack told me all about her crush. TERRI: Yeah, Janet can be stubborn and block-headed at times, but mostly, she's a wonderful person. JACK: She sure is. DEBRALEE: I hope we can smooth things over. TERRI: Don't worry hun, don't worry. Terri gives her a hug. Jack does the same. From a distance, Janet sees the two. JANET: (to herself) I'm gonna show her who's boss! Jack will get so much love from me he'll drown in it! It's short, yet intense. What will Janet do? |

I have some time, so I might as well update this a bit...
Janet walks over to where the three are sitting. She puts her arm around Jack. JANET: I missed you. JACK: Umm OK. You were only gone for about five minutes. JANET: Yeah I know, but any time away from you is like eternity. (kisses Jack on the cheek) TERRI: Janet, are you feeling OK? JANET: Of course I am! Why can't I show Jack how much I missed him? DEBRALEE: Terri, there's nothing wrong with it at all. I wish I had a man who felt like that with me. JANET: Yeah, that's too bad. Don't worry it will happen someday, but he would never be as good as Jack. Jack looks puzzled. JACK: (changing the subject) Uhhh who wants ice cream? TERRI: No thanks. DEBRALEE: I have to watch my weight. JANET: I'll take some. JACK: Great! Tell me what you want, and I'll get it. JANET: Oh no honey I couldn't let you do that! I'll get it... just relax. JACK: But the stand is on the other side of the beach. You sure you want to go that far? JANET: It's no problem at all. Besides, I don't want your cute legs to get sore. JACK: uhhhh thanks. JANET: I'll be thinking about you when I'm gone. Janet walks towards the ice cream stand. Jack is more confused than ever! JACK: Terri, Debralee I don't get it. TERRI: About Janet? JACK: Yeah. Did you see how she was acting? DEBRALEE: It was hard not to notice. She's in love with you. JACK: I know that, but not long ago she was in a foul mood. DEBRALEE: Maybe she cooled off. See, women can be very moody. TERRI: She's right Jack. It has to do with our bodies or something like that. JACK: This strong showing of love is kind of scaring me. We haven't even gone out on our date yet. TERRI: You could talk to her about it. JACK: Yeah, but I don't want to hurt her feelings. TERRI: How about I talk to her? We could use an old fashioned girl talk anyway. As Terri is speaking, Ralph Furley walks over. FURLEY: You and Jack need an old fashioned girl talk? (chuckles) TERRI: No Mr. Furley, I mean Janet and I. FURLEY: Where is Janet anyway, and who is the lovely young lady? DEBRALEE: Hi I'm Debralee. Janet's off getting ice cream. FURLEY: (sticks out his hand) It's great to meet you. I'm Mr. Furley, their landlord, but you can call me Ralph. How do you know these kids anyway? DEBRALEE: We just met actually. Jack needed a partner for volleyball, and I agreed. FURLEY: You know, you look familiar. Weren't you in a movie recently? DEBRALEE: Police Academy. FURLEY: That's it! You did a fine job! DEBRALEE: Thanks. Terri and Jack look at each other knowing what Furley is going after. FURLEY: So, speaking of movies, how would you like to see one with a cool cat like me? DEBRALEE: Uhhhh thanks, but I'd have to check my schedule. FURLEY: No worries. Here's my number, so when you want to have an enjoyable evening, give me a call. DEBRALEE: You have your number on a business card? FURLEY: Yeah, I hate pens. DEBRALEE: I'll keep it in mind. Thanks FURLEY: Later kids! Furley walks away DEBRALEE: What is that man's problem? JACK: Which problem would you like to know about first? The three of them laugh TERRI: Furley's just... well Furley. Janet comes back with two ice cream cones, both vanilla. JANET: Was that Furley? TERRI: Yeah. JANET: He's probably trying to pick up women. TERRI: He sure is. JANET: (to Jack) Here you go sweetheart, a vanilla. JACK: Thanks Janet, but I wanted strawberry. JANET: I felt like vanilla, and since we go together so well, I got the same. JACK: Vanilla's fine with me, I guess. JANET: You know I want to make you happy. TERRI: Uh Janet, you can lay off a bit. JANET: Lay off what? TERRI: With Jack. He knows how you feel. JANET: I can't help it. He's just so adorable! DEBRALEE: (looks at watch) Shoot, I need to get home and shower! I have a dinner guest tonight I must get ready for. It's been fun guys, really. (takes out a pen and paper from her bag) Here's my number. We should get together again soon. (she hands it to Terri) TERRI: We certainly will! You certainly made our day more enjoyable. DEBRALEE: Glad I did. I'll see you around! TERRI and JACK: Bye! Debralee exits. Janet has a huge smile on her face. JACK: What's that for? JANET: Oh, nothing. JACK: You still don't like Debralee? JANET: I didn't say that. JACK: You didn't even say goodbye like we did. JANET: That doesn't mean anything. TERRI: Uh Jack, could you excuse us for a bit. I need to have a girl talk with Janet. JACK: Sure. Maybe Furley's still hanging around somewhere. I'll try and find him! As Jack leaves, Terri's tone is more stern. TERRI: Look Janet, all of that lovey dovey stuff wasn't necessary. JANET: What's wrong with showing Jack how much he means to me? TERRI: You two haven't been on your date yet. Seriously, wait until tomorrow night, and if something happens, then do it. JANET: It's hard to control myself. TERRI: You didn't seem to have any problem when you hurt Debralee's knee. JANET: I'm still afraid Jack wants her. TERRI: I'm going to say this again. Jack is NOT INTERESTED IN HER! They are friends, that's all. Don't you think if he was he'd use more of those cheesy lines and spend more time alone with her? JANET: Maybe, and maybe not. TERRI: (sighs) I've tried Janet, but I can't get through to you. JANET: I think I've had enough beach today. TERRI: I could use a little more, but let's go. I'll find Jack, stay here. Terri runs in the direction Jack was headed. This one young man, probably about 23, long brown hair, stops Terri in her tracks. MAN ON BEACH: Hey good lookin'! TERRI: Bye! Terri is obviously not interested in another man, and he quickly realizes it. She spots Jack near the water. TERRI: (calling) JACK! JACK: (looks over) I'm coming! Jack runs over to Terri. TERRI: Janet's ready to leave. JACK: We better not keep her waiting. Jack puts his arm around Terri as the two walk to their spot. As they approach Janet, she walks with them to the car, but Jack does not hold her like he does with Terri. Besides, Janet is stuck carrying all the baggage. Janet puts their things into the station wagon, as Jack drives to Apartment 201... Terri in the passenger seat and Janet in the back. After a short ride, they arrive. The sun has worn Janet out, so she decides to take a nap, leaving Jack and Terri to have yet another talk. That talk will start off the next chapter. So, how's the story so far? Any thoughts? |

JACK: Terri, I'm starting to have second thoughts.
TERRI: (somewhat surprised) Second thoughts? Why? JACK: What if I feel something? I mean I know you'd be fine with it, but things would get weird. TERRI: I think we mentioned this before, did we not? You just think it would be weird. You don't know until you try. Plus, what's wrong with loving Janet? It would be great for both of you. JACK: Yeah, that's right! You're right! TERRI: Aren't I always? JACK: I'm going down to the Bistro again, for a little bit. I'll probably stop over at the Beagle afterward. Wanna come with? TERRI: Sure, why not? Janet can take care of her self. Jack takes Terri's hand as they head out. They stop by the Bistro; everything's running smoothly. Maybe Brian might actually end up being OK! The two then take a trip to the Reagle Beagle, taking a seat at the bar. After ordering drinks and some food, a familiar face comes over. LANA: Hi Jack and Terri! JACK: Hello Lana. TERRI: Hi. LANA: Buy me a drink? JACK: Sure, why not. LANA: Thanks. You feeling OK? You look like something's on your mind. JACK: It's Janet. LANA: Oh? JACK: We're supposed to go out tomorrow night, on a real date, and I don't know how it's going to turn out. I don't know what to do. I've dated many women before, but Janet's different. She's not like any of them. LANA: She probably has the same things on her mind. This is all strange to her too. TERRI: She's right Jack. Just act naturally. You enjoy being with Janet, right? JACK: Of course! TERRI: Then why should this be any different? JACK: Good point! You always know how to put things in perspective. LANA: A-hem? JACK: Oh, and Lana, you're a big help too! LANA: Glad I could help. JACK: I'm about ready to head back. It's getting late, anyway. TERRI: Me too. Lana, would you like to stop by the apartment for a few? LANA: Yeah, I have some time. JACK: Let's go! The three head back to the apartment. Janet is still asleep! The day must have really worn her out. TERRI: Shhhh! Janet's asleep. LANA: I'll keep it down. The phone rings. Jack answers JACK: Hello? FURLEY: Hi Jack! JACK: Mr. Furley? This is a first... you usually just barge right in here. FURLEY: Uh Jack, could you do me a favor? JACK: Do you want me to come over and.... FURLEY: NO JACK, NEVER! I was wondering, do you think you could set me up with Debralee? JACK: I don't think I could do that. FURLEY: Why not? JACK: I hate setting people up. Besides, I thought you were the love doctor! FURLEY: I still am. Fine, I don't need your help! (slams phone) JACK: Bye, RF. TERRI: What did Furley want? JACK: He wanted me to set him up with Debralee. LANA: Who's Debralee? JACK: Debralee Scott. We met her today on the beach. LANA: I think I've heard of her. Hey... you went to the beach without me? JACK: Sorry Lana, but it was just for us plus Janet. We don't seem to spend enough time together lately. TERRI: Well, hopefully you and Janet will be spending plenty of time together! JACK: We'll see. LANA: I better run. I have some housework I must do. It seems to never end. TERRI: OK Lana, thanks for stopping by. JACK: It was great seeing you again. LANA: Same here Jack. (gives him a hug) Lana leaves. The two of them soon go to sleep (in their separate rooms, of course!). Let's skip ahead to the next night, because that what everyone wants to read about, anyway! Janet is getting ready for her date with Jack. She decides to wear a beautiful red long strapless dress. TERRI: Honey, you'll blow him away! JANET: You think so? I don't have a great figure. TERRI: Don't say that! Your body is great, and Jack thinks so too! Here, let me help you with your hair. Meanwhile, Jack is in the other room, straighteninghis necktie. He doesn't remember the last time he took this much time to prepare for a date. The phone rings. JACK: I'll get it! He walks over to the phone. JACK: Hello? LANA: Hey Jack. JACK: Oh hi Lana. Sorry, but this kind of a bad time. I'm getting ready for my date with Janet. LANA: I figured that. I just wanted to wish you the best of luck with her. JACK: Thanks. LANA: You two always seemed so close, that you'll have no trouble at all! JACK: Thanks Lana. Bye. LANA: Bye! Jack walks over to the mirror to give himself one last look. TERRI: (from behind) Suave, Tripper! JACK: Terri! I didn't know you were there! TERRI: Janet wanted to look herself over one last time. (she straightens his tie) Nervous? JACK: Yeah, somewhat, but I'll be fine! JANET: (from other room) Terri, I'm ready. TERRI: So is Jack. Come out here! Janet walks out. Jack grins from ear to ear. JACK: Woah Janet! You look simply stunning! JANET: Thanks Jack! You look good yourself. JACK: So I guess this is it. JANET: Yeah, it sure is. TERRI: Have a good time kids! JACK: Thanks Terri (gives her a kiss) JANET: Bye, Ter. Jack extends his arm, which Janet takes as they walk out the door. The next chapter will focus on... the date of course! |
