I've been a member on these boards for a while, but have never created a story... until now. Pretend that Janet never got married, Jack never moved in with Vicki and Terri never moved to Hawaii. This story takes place in 1985, a year after the show ended.
This is my first TC fic, so please go easy on me. I'm writing in script form because it's easier for me. Enjoy! It was a nice, cool Spring night, around midnight. Janet was on the couch watching some TV, when Jack comes home. JACK: Hey Janet! JANET: Hi hon, how was the Bistro? JACK: Very busy, that's why I'm so late getting home. It doesn't help that Felipe moved to Spain and his replacement is not very experienced. JANET: Aww I'm sorry. You're a great teacher, so he'll learn in no time! JACK: I hope so because these long hours really start to wear me down. So what are you watching? Jack then sits down on the couch, with his arm around Janet. JANET: Supertrain. JACK: Supertrain? Why would any station air reruns of that awful show? They must be desparate for programming. JANET: Maybe, but this episode guest stars Joyce DeWitt. I've always admired her acting you know. JACK: Come to think of it, you do kinda look like her. I can see it in the hair and some of the facial features. JANET: Nah, I don't see any similarities, other than our hair color. I don't look half as pretty as Joyce. JACK: Don't say that Janet. I think you are beautiful! He then kisses her on the cheek JANET: You sure do know how to complient a woman. JACK: Where's Terri? JANET: She's on a date with Pete. JACK: Who's Pete? JANET: Didn't she tell you? He was a patient that she nursed back to health. I guess it's the classic hospital love story. JACK: You've been reading too many romance novels. JANET: On that thought, I do have a letter that came for you today. Janet hands him the letter JACK: Funny, there's no return address. (sniffs) And, it smells like perfume. JANET: Maybe it's a secret admirer. Open it! JACK: Here goes. (opens letter) Dearest Jack, Over the past several years I have been constantly thinking about you. Our time together has never been replaced by anyone else. Meet me Thursday night at the Reagle Beagle, so we can relive old memories, and make some new ones! 8PM, sharp! JANET: Woah. Who is it Jack? JACK: I don't know, I really don't. Hey, Thursday is tomorrow! I can't go. I have so much do to at the Bistro. JANET: This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I'll help out, and maybe I can get Terri too. You have to do this. JACK: Are you sure you can take on the place without me around? JANET: I'm sure I can manage. I don't work tomorrow so it's no problem. JACK: One thing though. Your cooking isn't exactly great. In fact, it sucks. JANET: There you go with the cooking remarks again. If your new help can't handle it, I'll make sure and bring a good cook. Maybe Sue from the Flower Shop is available. She's almost as good a cook as you. JACK: Thanks Janet. I love you. (gives her a quick kiss on the lips). JANET: Love you too. JACK: I'm bushed. I'm hitting the sack. JANET: You know, that's a good idea. Let's go to bed. JACK: You're the boss! Jack grabbes Janet's hand and runs towards her room. JANET: Jack! Jack: Aww you're no fun! Well, night. They kiss each other good night ---------------- The next morning, Jack wakes up early. The sun beat through the window. He could tell it was going to be a beautiful day. He heads to the kitchen to make breakfast for himself and the girls. As breakfast is cooking, Terri wakes up to the auroma and walks into the kitchen. TERRI: Morning Jack She gives Jack a kiss. JACK: Hey, when did you get home? We didn't hear a peep. TERRI: Around 2 or 3. I had such a great time with Pete I didn't want it to end! JACK: How was it? Where did you go? TERRI: It was just breathtaking! We went to see a movie. Such a horrible picture. Eventually, we focused on something else... each other. JACK: So you two made out. TERRI: Well, yeah. Jack the way he kisses, it's the most beautiful thing in the world. JACK: Well, they say I'm a great kisser too. Try me! TERRI: (laughs, then playfully pushes him away) Anyway, after the show ended we went to the mountains to just look at the stars. It was so peaceful, just talking to him without a soul around. JACK: Sounds like a great guy. When do you see him again? TERRI: Probably Saturday night. I have to work a long shift today, and tomorrow night as well. Janet walks in. JACK and TERRI: Morning, honey JANET: Terri, when did you get in. TERRI: As I told Jack, around 2 or 3. I had such a great time. Jack interrupts JACK: Breakfast is served! A nice omelette for Ms. Wood (he sets plate for Janet), and flapjacks for our lovestruck nurse. JANET: I take it the date went well. TERRI: That's an understatment. Jack can give you details. I really have to run... I have a long day. JACK: OK Terri. Have a great day at the hospital. (kisses Terri) JANET: Bye, Ter. TERRI: Later guys! Jack then explains the details of her date to Janet. JANET: How cute! Looks like Terri's in love! I hope the same happens to you tonight. JACK: Shoot! I was gonna tell Terri about it. She would be thrilled! JANET: We'll tell her first thing. JACK: Janet, I'm so nervous. I've never been this nervous about a date. JANET: Why should you be nervous? She obviously likes you, so that's half the battle already won. JACK: True, but I wish I had some support. It's too bad Larry's out of town or I'd have him go for support. As long as he didn't go after her himself of course! JANET: (laughs) oh that Larry! JACK: Well, I better get down to the restuarant. Brunch is fast approaching. JANET: OK honey. I'll stop by around 6 or so, so you'll have plenty of time to get ready. Have a great day! JACK: Thanks so much Janet. (kisses her). --------------- Janet comes to the Bistro at six, just like she promised. Jack goes home to change and shower, then arrives at the Reagle Beagle a little early. JACK (to himself): I'm so nervous. Who is it? Jack has a beer, when all of a sudden he hears a familiar female voice. That's it until the next time. Comments? |

Thanks for the comments so far! On we go to the next chapter!
Jack looks to see who is calling him. It turns out to be Lana. JACK: Oh, it's only you Lana. LANA: We haven't seen each other in about six years, and all you say is "it's only you Lana"? JACK: Sorry to sound rude, but I'm waiting for an important woman. She sent me this love note. LANA: Well maybe she's closer than you think. JACK: What do you mean... oh no. It's not you is it? LANA: Yay you're right! You win the grand prize, me! She then throws her arms around Jack. JACK: Down girl. Lana, why did you talk about our love, when we've never done anything. I've pushed away every time! LANA: That was all an act. I can tell when a guy's in love with me. JACK: I'm not in love... BARTENDER (interrupting Jack): Does the lady friend want a drink? LANA: Yeah, I've have scotch on the rocks. He's buying. JACK: When did I agree to that? LANA: It's been six long lonely years. Can't you at least be nice and buy me a drink? JACK: Well... it would be rude of me not to. OK, but just one! LANA: Thanks Jackie! (kisses him on the cheek). JACK: Please don't do that! LANA: Why not? Janet and Chrissy always did. JACK: Janet is my closest friend, and at the time Chrissy was too. LANA: She isn't now? JACK: She just left one day, without a word. Her cousin moved in, and eventually she also left. Our new roommate is Terri. She's my second favorite only to Janet. I haven't spoken to Chrissy since she moved. LANA: I'd like to meet this Terri person. BARTENDER: Here you go, young lady. LANA: See Jack, he thinks I'm young. Why not you? JACK: It has nothing to do with your age at all. (sips more of his beer) It's just that you're so forceful, that it frankly freaks me out a bit. LANA: Let's change all that. I won't be forceful. Let's start fresh. Lana then slams her drink JACK: Wow! I've never seen a woman drink so fast. LANA: I needed it, after you rejecting me. (starts making a sad face) JACK: Lana, I... LANA: No don't sugar coat it. You don't want me. I'm a fool for ever thinking so. JACK: (puts hand on her shoulder) You're not a fool. A little strong and obsessive perhaps, but not a fool. LANA: No, you were right before. I guess I'll just go now. (starts crying) JACK: Lana, wait! OK, just this once, we can go out. Just don't go overboard, OK? LANA: Really? JACK: Really. LANA: Thank you so much! (hugs Jack) JACK: Lana... LANA: Oh I'm sorry! I'm being too strong again! So sorry. JACK: So, what should we do? LANA: Well, I know this place. I used to go there all the time before I moved away. JACK: What kind of place? LANA: You'll see. Let's go. After paying the tab, Lana and Jack leave. As they reach the door. Mr. Furley enters FURLEY: Oh hi Jack. (looks at Lana) Lana! I haven't seen you in years! LANA: Hi Mr. Furley. Jack and I were just going. JACK: Yeah, we were. FURLEY: Where are you and twinkletoes uh... I mean Jack going? LANA: Just a favorite place of mine. It was nice seeing you again. FURLEY: Yeah, you too. JACK: (looks at Furley in a loving way) Mr. Furley, if you want to come along, and you know... FURLEY: No that's OK. You can do that with someone else, but not me! EVER! LANA: COME ON JACK! Jack and Lana go off towards her special place... Chapter three will come soon! |

Jack and Lana going off somewhere? Let's see where they go in Chapter three!
They both hop into Lana's beautiful Mustang. JACK: I didn't know you had such a nice car! LANA: I bought it about a year ago. I needed to add some class to my life. JACK: Yeah, a Mustang sure will do that. LANA: Jack, I can tell you're very nervous. What do you think I'm going to do? JACK: That's what I'm afraid of. Remember, I'm only doing this because I hate seeing a woman cry. Do you understand? LANA: Yeah, sure I do. We're here! Lana pulls up to another bar, but this one is obviously more romantically themed. JACK: Oh lordy, lordy. LANA: What's wrong? JACK: Oh, nothing. Let's get this over with. They both walk in. Jack is very surprised at who's sitting at the bar. JACK: Mr. Roper! It's been years! ROPER: Jack Tripper! Yes, it certainly has! LANA: I'm going to freshen up. Don't go away! ROPER: Who's the woman? I thought you were gay. JACK: Mr. Roper, that was all an act. Janet Chrissy and I never did anything and never intended to, but if you thought we would you'd throw me out! ROPER: Whatever. I don't own the place anymore, so do what you want. JACK: Is Mrs. Roper around? ROPER: No, she's at home. I had to leave because she has to watch some stupid show. She should know never to change the channel when Name That Tune's on. JACK: You still love that show? ROPER: It's the greatest show ever! It went away for a few years, but last year they brought it back with Jim Lange hosting! I know the onwer of this place, and he lets me watch it when Helen's taking the TV. JACK: Hmm... ROPER: (yelling at TV) Come on! From the clue it's obviously Moon River! FEMALE CONTESTANT: (from TV) I can name that tune in two notes! MALE CONTESTANT: (from TV) Go ahead, name that tune! ROPER: She should nail this one. FEMALE CONTESTANT: (from TV) ummm... no clue! JIM LANGE: (from TV): Sorry, but it was Moon River! ROPER: Told ya! JACK: Why don't you try out for the show? You can win some money. ROPER: Helen says she'll be embarassed if I'm on a game show trying to win cash. She says it lowers our social status. Now be quiet until this is over! JACK: OK, I'm going over to a table. Nice seeing you again Mr. Roper! ROPER: Yeah. (yelling at TV) Midnight at the Oasis! It has to be! Just as Jack sits down, Lana comes back. LANA: Did you miss me? JACK: I was talking to my old landlord, Mr. Roper. He sold the building shortly before you moved in. LANA: (watching Roper yell at TV) Seems like an exciting guy. JACK: Not if you're Mrs. Roper! LANA: What do you want to get to drink? JACK: Uhh how about just a soda. LANA: Just a soda? Jack Tripper, you're here to have some fun! WAITRESS: Have you two decided? JACK: Well, uh.. LANA: (interrupting) We will each have your best tequilla. WAITRESS: I'll be right back. JACK: That's strong stuff. LANA: Don't be such a baby! JACK: Ummm could you excuse me for a few? LANA: OK, but hurry back! You don't want me to be lonely, do you? JACK: I'll only be a few. Jack runs to the payphone and calls his Bistro. JANET: (on phone) Hello, Jack's Bistro. This is Janet speaking, how may I help you? JACK: Janet, it's me. JANET: Jack! Honey, how's the date with the mystery woman? JACK: Not so good. See, the woman turned out to be Lana. JANET: Lana Shields? JACK: Yes. Janet, you have to bail me out! I can't just leave her! Please! JANET: Well, business has really slowed down, so I should be there soon. Where are you? JACK: I'm at this romantic themed bar on the east side of town, on Fairfax. Please hurry! JANET: Romantic? I'm on my way. Don't worry, things will be OK here. JACK: Thanks Janet! You're a lifesaver. JANET: Bye! Jack feels more at ease that his closest friend is coming, but can he last that long with Lana? LANA: What kept you? JACK: I had to call my restaurant to make sure everything was OK. LANA: Since when did you have a restaurant? JACK: I opened it a few years ago. It's been my dream! (looks down at the table) You already had your drink? LANA: Yep. Hey, can I have yours too? JACK: Sure. LANA: (yelling) Waitress! Bring me two more! She then slams another drink JACK: Lana, you're drinking up a storm. LANA: (slightly slurring) So? JACK: Well, it isn't good for you and... LANA: Lighten up Jack! Don't you want a real woman instead of those young girls you always chase? JACK: Ummm WAITRESS: Here you are, miss. LANA: Thanks. Roper walks over. ROPER: Can you belive it? He only got five tunes right in the Golden Medley! Jack and Lana have no clue what he's talking about JACK: Yeah, that's too bad. Mr. Roper, this is Lana. Lana, this is my old landlord, Mr. Roper. ROPER: Nice to meet you Lana. Well I better get back to Helen, because the longer I'm gone the more she wants. Bye kids! JACK: See ya! LANA: Strange man. JACK: (looks down again) DAMN! You drank all that in a few minutes! LANA: (obviously drunk) Sooo. Jack, come with me for a minute. JACK: Where? LANA: Just go! Lana grabs Jack by the hand and goes to a remote part of the bar LANA: Did I ever tell you how cute you are? JACK: About a million times. LANA: (pulling Jack closer) Well, here's something else I want to say. Lana starts kissing Jack, with her tongue rolling around his mouth. Jack pulls away, shocked! JACK: LANA! What the hell are you doing? LANA: I want you Jack, right here and right now! Lana starts to pull off her top, when Janet comes. JANET: JACK! JACK: Janet, thank god you're here! LANA: Janet, please leave. Jack and I are in the middle of something important. JANET: Listen Lana, stay away from Jack! He's not interested. Please, just stop trying! LANA: How do you know? Jack and I are having an intimate evening. Just gooo away, now! JANET: I will not go until Jack comes with me! LANA: Let him decide. Jack baby, do you want to go off with the plain ugly girl, or do you want to be with a real woman who will make your dreams come true? JANET: Don't you dare call me ugly! JACK: Lana, I choose Janet. Please, just leave me alone. You're a nice girl, but I'm not interested! LANA: (crying) Fine, go! This isn't over! Someday you'll realize your love for me! Jack and Janet walk outside, leaving Lana at the bar. JACK: (kisses Janet) You saved me! JANET: Anytime Jack. Who would have thought after all these years Lana would still be after you? JACK: Well, I am irrestible! Janet laughs JANET: (puts arm around Jack) Let's go home. Janet and Jack speed off to their apartment. They arrive. JANET: Shhh. I think Terri's asleep! JACK: I think I could use some sleep too. I just want this night to be over. JANET: It's over now. Forget it ever happened. JACK: You know Janet, I've dated a lot of women. But did you know that the woman I like most isn't one of them? JANET: I wonder who that could be? (asking playfully) JACK: (putting arm around Janet's waist, then kissing her forhead) I don't know how I'll ever repay you for getting me out of that jam. JANET: Don't worry about it. Hey, I'm going to read for a while. If you need anything else, come find me. JACK: Thanks. (kisses Janet square on the lips) Good night, darling. JANET: Night honey. Jack goes to his room and quickly falls asleep. As Janet is reading her romance novel, some thoughts go through her head, some she's never had before. I guess everyone will have to wait to see what happens next! What do you think about the story so far? |

What exactly is Janet thinking? Will Lana leave Jack alone? Will Roper find a show better than Name That Tune? Here's Chapter Four!
Another beautiful morning. Jack awakens and heads to the kitchen. Terri is already there, eating a bowl of cereal. TERRI: Morning Jack! (gives him a kiss on the cheek) JACK: Morning sunshine! TERRI: So sorry to hear about last night. JACK: Janet must have told you. TERRI: Yeah she did. That Lana woman sure sounds nutty, but it's hard to believe you would reject any woman. JACK: (pouring a bowl of cereal) Lana is way too strong, and I hate that. TERRI: From what Janet said she's madly in love with you, and has been for years. JACK: When she moved in back in '79, from the moment she spotted me she thought I was hers. I never once went on a date with her, until last night. She was so upset, and I just couldn't see a woman cry. TERRI: (puts hand on Jack's shoulder) That's why you are so sweet, but there are times you have to go against your instinct, and Lana's one of them. In her mind just going out with her might have given a signal that you like her. JACK: But I told her off... TERRI: Yes you did, but maybe that will turn her on more! Lana's just, well strange. There is a knock on the door. Very strange since most people just barge in. JACK: Someone's at the door. TERRI: (sarcastically) Oh really? JACK: Very funny. Finish your cereal. I'll get it. Jack walks to the door, opens it, and drops his jaw. It's Lana LANA: Jack! JACK: Ummm hi Lana. How are you feeling? LANA: Not too good. My head aches so bad from last night. Maybe you can help me recover! JACK: No thanks. TERRI: (as she's walking to the door) Who is it, Jack? LANA: You must be Terri. TERRI: Yes I am. Judging by the way you're looking at Jack, you must be Lana. LANA: That's right. TERRI: Look, Jack is not interested in you. Please, just stay away from him. LANA: How do you know? I've known him longer than you! TERRI: But I've been closer to him. LANA: But I kissed him. TERRI: So have I. LANA: I mean with passion! JACK: That was not with passion! I hated it! LANA: Jack, stay out of this! JACK: Ummm TERRI: (to Jack) No honey, you are right in this. Tell her how you really feel. JACK: Well, um Lana the truth is, I am not interested. I went out with you last night because I felt sorry for you! I can't see a woman cry, and I believe I told you that, remember? We were supposed to have an innocent night, but you got very drunk and went all over me! I told you I was not interested! Please, just go away! LANA: (crying) Oh Jack, I am so sorry for how I acted! JACK: No Lana, it's not your fault. TERRI: Jack could I see you for a minute... alone? LANA: Go ahead. Let me cry here all alone. JACK: Lana... TERRI: NOW, Tripper! Jack and Terri go back in the kitchen. TERRI: Honey she's going on a guilt trip. Trust me. She know her crying is your weakness. This is part of her plan to get another date from you. Stay strong. JACK: I'm trying, but its so hard! TERRI: Here, grab my hand. (They hold hands) When you start to ease up, I'll squeeze it hard, letting you know. JACK: Thanks, Ter! TERRI: Anytime! Lets go! Jack and Terri walk back to the living room, still hand in hand. JACK: Lana, please. Just go! LANA: What did that blonde bimbo say to you? TERRI: (obviously angry, raising voice) Who are you calling a blonde bimbo? JANET: (from bedroom) Guys, I'm trying to sleep! LANA: You! TERRI: (furious, letting go of Jack's hand) LISTEN HERE SLUT! JACK CAN'T STAND YOU! HE WANTS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU! TRUST ME! I AM NOT SOME BLONDE BIMBO! I'M A VERY SUCCESSFUL NURSE, AND YOU NEED BRAINS FOR THAT! JUST LEAVE, FOREVER! IF YOU DON'T, I'LL COME AFTER YOU! Jack is shocked JACK: Woah Terri! LANA: Well I never! Fine, I'm leaving, but I'll be back. When you're not around, I'll get Jack back! He will be mine forever! Lana slams the door. Janet walks out of the room in her typical football jersey sleepwear. JANET: What is going on here? TERRI: Lana was here. JANET: Oh no. TERRI: I told her off, but I don't think it was enough. She's obsessed with him. JANET: Oh, dear. JACK: I don't think she will ever give up. JANET: I guess I better jump in the shower. JACK: Right behind you! JANET: Jack! No! JACK: Darn! Janet walks into the bathroom to shower. JACK: Terri, I want to thank you. You showed a lot of courage there. TERRI: I just don't want her to bother you anymore. I love you so much that when something bothers you, it bothers me. They both embrace for a lenghty period of time. JACK: (still hugging Terri) I don't know what I'd do without you. You and Janet have done so much for me both yesterday and today. I feel like I owe you. TERRI: Well... if you feel that way, Sunday we can have a nice day together, just the three of us. We can go to the beach. JACK: Sounds exciting! I just hope you aren't too tired out after your date with Pete Saturday night! TERRI: True... but I'll manage. JACK: I better hop down to the Bistro, even though I don't want to leave your arms right now. TERRI: I don't either, but work comes first. Besides, you'll probably see me tonight as I'm getting ready for the night shift. JACK: Yeah. (he kisses her on the lips, then removes himself from her) Bye! Janet comes out of the shower. TERRI: That was quick! JANET: Furley says we need to conserve water. TERRI: I sure hope Jack is OK today. JANET: Why wouldn't he be? TERRI: I'm worried Lana will show up. She did say when I'm not around she will be there for him. JANET: I don't think she even knows where his restaurant is. You're worring over nothing. TERRI: Yeah, probably. It's just that I love Jack so much I don't want him hurt. JANET: I feel the same way. We've been through so much over the years. Can you keep a secret? TERRI: Sure. JANET: Even from Jack? TERRI: If it's that important, yes. JANET: Last night after he went to bed, I had these thoughts about him. TERRI: Like what? JANET: Call this weird, but after last night, when we were all alone, I felt something. Something like love. TERRI: So? You've always loved Jack, just like I have. JANET: I don't mean love. I mean love love, you know, like relationship love. TERRI: (surprised) You mean you... you... JANET: Yeah, I think I love Jack Tripper! TERRI: Woah! That's so sweet! JANET: But I've never told him, and anyway I couldn't do it because of you. TERRI: Why because of me? JANET: Well if we were you know going together it would seem odd for you. You would be like the fifth wheel, or is it third? TERRI: I'm perfectly fine with it, trust me! I honestly hope he feels the same! JANET: Thanks hon. Janet gives Terri a big hug. JANET: Well, I must be going. Big wedding arrangement today. TERRI: When you're ready to tell Jack, please let me know! JANET: I sure will. TERRI: Have a good day! Janet exits. Terri has a huge smile on her face. Jack and Janet? It would be so wonderful if it actually happened, she thinks. Well, even though the most important question wasn't answered (sarcasm there) I still hope you enjoy the story. As always I welcome your thoughts on the current situation, or any part of the story so far! |
