OH NO. Poor Jack. I hope he is going to be ok. I can't wait to see how this turns out. By the way, I loved the chapter.

I am SO sorry! I totally lost track of time and everything is just all messed up. well, i'm finally updating! and this is a really long chapter.
Chapter 4 “What are we going to do, Terri?” Janet asked. “Uh, I’ll call the hospital and see what’s going on,” Terri answered. She walked over to the phone and dialed the hospital. “Hello, Wilshire Memorial,” a nurse answered. “This is Nurse Terri Alden. I work in the ER, and would like to speak to the head nurse there,” Terri said. “Ok, hold on, Nurse Alden,” the nurse said and put Terri through. “Hello, Nurse Alden,” said the head nurse in the ER. “I’m a close friend of Jack Tripper. I’d like to find out his current condition, please,” Terri asked. “Sure. Hold on, here comes the doctor on his case! I’ll ask him,” the nurse replied. Terri was only waiting for a second when the nurse came back on the phone. “He’ll speak to you himself,” she said. “Thank you,” Terri replied. “Hello, Nurse Alden. I’m Dr. Fitzgerald,” the doctor said. “The nurse told me you were a friend of Mr. Tripper,” he said. “Yes, I am. What is his current condition?” Terri asked. “He’s in critical condition, but he’s getting better by the minute,” Dr. Fitzgerald said. “Great! What were his injuries?” Terri said. “He broke his left shoulder and had a severe gash on the back of his head which resulted in major blood loss. But we were able to quickly stem the blood flow and give him a blood transfusion. Then we put the shoulder in a cast and stitched up his head,” the doctor told Terri. “So he should be ok?” Terri asked. “Well, we can’t be sure of that as he was unconscious when he came in and still is, but I expect him to pull through,” Dr. Fitzgerald said encouragingly. “Thank you, Dr. Fitzgerald. May I come down to the hospital with a friend and see him?” Terri asked. “Sure,” Dr. Fitzgerald said. “Good-bye then,” Terri said. “Bye,” he said as they hung up. “Well?” Janet asked. “They can’t say anything for sure, but the doctor expects him to do wonderfully!” Terri said. “Thank God!” Janet exclaimed. Just then, the commercial ended and the woman was saying, “well, here’s Steve with more information on Jack Tripper, who was hit by a car earlier,” and the camera switched to a man in front of the hospital. “Thank you, Carrie. Dr. Fitzgerald, who is in charge of Mr. Tripper’s case, hasn’t said much. He just said that Mr. Tripper is in critical condition but his condition is improving. Mr. Tripper’s injuries were a broken shoulder and a major gash on his head. We will have more information later. Now back to Carrie,” Steve said. “Thank you Steve. Now,-” Terri turned off the TV. “Come on, Janet! Dr. Fitzgerald said we could go see Jack!” Terri said. “We can? Ok, let’s go!” Janet said, grabbing her purse. They were at the door in another second. Then, Mr. Furley opened the door. He started yelling something that they couldn’t understand. “Calm down, Mr. Furley!” Terri said. “Who cares? Let’s go!” Janet begged. Just then Larry ran up behind him. “Jack was hit by a car!” he said. Mr. Furley nodded frantically. “We know! We’re on our way now!” Terri said. “Ok! Mr. Furley, come on! We’re going with them!” Larry said “Let’s just go! Please!” Janet yelled frantically, and raced down the stairs. “You heard her, come on!” Terri exclaimed, running after her. Twenty minutes later, they arrived at the hospital. “Ok, Terri, where now?” Larry asked. “This way!” Terri said as she led them inside and then to the ER. When they arrived, Terri told them to wait while she spoke to the head nurse. “Hello, may I help you?” the nurse asked. “Hello, I’m Nurse Alden,” Terri said. “Oh, yes. You called earlier asking about Mr. Tripper. Dr. Fitzgerald is expecting you and a friend,” she said. “Well, it turns out that it’s three friends,” Terri said, glancing over her shoulder. “Oh. Well, Dr. Fitzgerald told me to send you to his office. I expect you know it’s location?” the nurse then said. “Yes. Thank you,” Terri said and went back over to everyone. “Well?” Janet said. “Dr. Fitzgerald said for us to go to his office. Come on,” Terri said. “But I thought we were going to see Jack!” Janet protested. “Yeah!” Larry chimed in. “Dr. Fitzgerald will update us on his condition! Come on,” Terri begged. The others gave in and followed her. Soon enough, they were at his office. “Hello?” Dr. Fitzgerald said when he opened his office door to the sound of Terri’s knocking. “Hi, Dr. Fitzgerald. I’m Terri Alden,” Terri introduced herself. “Ah, yes. You said you’d come with a, um, friend,” Dr. Fitzgerald said slowly, seeing Larry, Mr. Furley and Janet behind her. “Well, a few more decided to tag along,” Terri explained. “Ok, well come in then,” he said as he welcomed them into his office. “Thank you, Doctor,” Terri said as she entered. “Thanks,” Larry said as he followed her. “Yeah, thanks,” Janet said behind him. Mr. Furley nodded as he entered. “Jack woke up about five minutes ago. He had a major concussion, so he’s very drowsy and confused. I don’t want too many people to see him at once,” Dr. Fitzgerald said. “But I think a familiar face might do him good,” he then added. “Well, which one of us then?” Larry asked. “What relationship are you to Jack?” Dr. Fitzgerald asked. “I’m his best friend,” Larry said. “I’m his landlord,” Mr. Furley quickly added. “We’re his roommates,” Terri said, “just to cut down on living expenses. Well, at least for me. She’s his girlfriend.” Janet nodded. “Well, Miss, um?” the doctor asked. “Wood. Janet Wood,” Janet said. “Miss Wood should probably be the one to see him. But then one of you can see him,” Dr. Fitzgerald said. “Ok,” they all agreed. When they arrived back at the ER waiting room, Dr. Fitzgerald said, “Miss Wood, please come with me. You guys can decide who will see him next.” “Thank you,” Janet said. They walked quite a ways, and it seemed to Janet that they’d never be at Jack’s room. Then the doctor said, “here we are. I’ll go tell him he has a visitor,” and entered the room. Janet heard some talking, then the doctor said, “come on in!” Janet walked over to where the doctor was standing. “Oh, Jack!” she cried out when she saw him. “Janet, Honey, it’s ok!” Jack said. “I’ll leave you alone for a few minutes then,” Dr. Fitzgerald said, but they didn’t hear him. “No it isn’t! You’re in the hospital! How can it be ok?” Janet said, and started crying. “Oh, don’t cry, Janet. I’ll be fine! I just have a headache and my arm hurts a bit, that’s all! The doctor said I should be out soon, and my condition is now stable,” Jack said. “But, Jack,” Janet started. “No, Honey. I’m fine. Just some idiot got drunk and hit me with his car! It wasn’t very bad. He was swerving a lot so he didn’t hit me head on!” Jack said, trying to comfort Janet. “But you’re in the hospital with a cast on your arm and a big bandage on your head!” Janet protested through her tears. “Exactly! That’s it! Nothing more! Nothing life threatening!” Jack said. “Come on, Honey. A broken arm is going to kill me? Please!” Jack tried. Janet couldn’t help but smile. Even when he was in the hospital, Jack was still a funny guy. “Ha! I made you smile! So now you have to stop crying!” Jack said triumphantly. “Jack!” Janet said, but she had stopped crying. “Great! Now I’ve made you stop crying! You have to kiss me now!” Jack said. Janet started laughing. “Jack Tripper! That’s really all you can think about, isn’t it?” Janet asked as she kissed his cheek. “Janet! We’ve lived together for six years! You should have figured that out by now!” Jack replied, grinning. “Come on!” Janet said, laughing even harder. “Ok. The truth is, that isn’t really all I can think about. All I can think about is how much I love you,” Jack said. “That’s all I can think about, too,” Janet said. Jack lifted up his right arm and placed his hand on Janet’s shoulder. Just then, Dr. Fitzgerald came in and started to say something. But, when he saw the couple, he stopped in mid sentence. Then Jack saw him and said, “hello, Doctor. Is something wrong?” “No, uh, I just, and you two, well, maybe I’ll give you guys a little more time,” Dr. Fitzgerald said. “No, it’s fine. I was just leaving anyway,” Janet said. “Bye Sweetie,” Jack said. As Janet left, she said, “good-bye Honey. I love you and I’ll see you later.” Meanwhile, back in the waiting room, the rest of the group had decided Larry should see Jack next. Terri could see him when she was at work and Larry was closer to Jack than Mr. Furley. About 20 minutes after Janet and Dr. Fitzgerald left, they returned. “Who’s next?” Dr. Fitzgerald asked. “I am,” Larry said. “Ok, follow me sir,” the doctor said. A couple minutes later, they were at Jack’s door. “Jacko! You ok, man?” Larry asked as he walked over to Jack’s bedside. “Larry! Yeah, I’m ok,” Jack replied. “What happened to ya?” Larry asked. Jack said, “I’m not too sure. All I remember is that I was late to work and had to catch the bus. I ran out in the street without looking. I wasn’t really thinking. Then I heard a car engine. The guy didn’t have his headlights on, so I didn’t see him coming. Suddenly, I felt something bang into my left side and my shoulder felt like it had been smashed. I guess I blacked out then. Next thing I know, I wake up in the hospital,” he finished. “That doesn’t sound too good man,” Larry commented. “Doesn’t feel so great, either. My shoulder isn’t really bothering me, but my head is killing me!” Jack said. “Sure you’re ok?” Larry asked again. “I don’t know about money, but I’m fine otherwise!” Jack said. “You know I’m always here for ya pal,” Larry said. “Whatever you say Larry,” Jack said. Just then, a pretty blonde nurse walked by Jack’s door. “See ya, pal,” Larry said. “Exactly,” Jack laughed as Larry went chasing after her. “I’ll come back later!” Larry called over his shoulder. “Good-bye, Larry!” Jack hollered. Dr. Fitzgerald came back in and asked, “where’s he going?” “After that blonde nurse that just passed,” Jack replied. “Oohh, bad idea! She’s engaged to Dr. Baker, the head pediatrician,” Dr. Fitzgerald said. “Head pediatrician?” Jack asked, raising his eyebrows. “Yeah. I know what you’re thinking but I grew up with him, practically. He was in my class since fourth grade, but only because he’d been held back. He was the school bully, and looked like an eighth grader then. He only softened up a little by his college graduation,” Dr. Fitzgerald explained. “And he’s the pediatrician?” Jack said in shock. “He’s a good doctor, really! But he’s really mean with everything else,” Dr. Fitzgerald said. “Could you tell Larry if you see him, please? I don’t think it would be good if he ended up in here, too,” Jack said. “Ok, I’ll tell him if I can. Well, I’ll check up on you later, and I’ll make sure Terri gets the position of your head nurse,” Dr. Fitzgerald offered. “Thank you! Have a good night doctor!” Jack said as Dr. Fitzgerald left. Back in the waiting room, Larry came back. “Where’s Dr. Fitzgerald?” Terri asked. “Oh, he’s back with Jack. I left to, uh,” but Larry was interrupted by the nurse. “Get a date with me,” she said. “Yeah,” Larry grinned. “Oh, Larry! Are girls all you can think about?” Janet asked. Terri recognized the nurse and knew she was engaged, and knew who she was engaged to. “Larry, let me tell you something,” Terri said, standing up. “Excuse me, darling,” Larry said to the nurse. “I have to get back to work. See you later,” she said, and she left the group. “Larry, that’s Linda Somers! She’s engaged to John Baker, the head pediatrician! You can’t date her!” Terri said. “So? I’ve dated other people’s fiances before,” Larry pointed out. “Oh really? Follow me down to pediatrics. It’s his shift, so I’ll point him out to you,” Terri offered. “Ok!” Larry agreed. Then Dr. Fitzgerald came. “Larry! Jack wanted me to tell you that nurse is engaged!” the doctor shouted. “How did Jack know?” asked Mr. Furley. “Oh, I told him,” Dr. Fitzgerald said. “He knows. I just told him, but thank you doctor,” Terri said. “Ok. Terri, I’m going to make you head nurse on Jack’s case. And you guys can visit him sometime tomorrow,” Dr. Fitzgerald said. “Thank you!” Terri exclaimed. “You’re welcome. I have to go give another statement to the press now,” the doctor said. “Good-bye!” everyone said. Everyone decided to wait for Terri and Larry downstairs. When the two of them finally reached pediatrics, they went to the front desk and Terri asked to speak to Dr. Baker for a minute. “What are you gonna say to him?” Larry asked. “I’ll ask him a question about a kid who came in the ER the other day and got transferred down here,” Terri replied. “Hello, Nurse Alden. How are you doing?” Dr. Baker asked, grinning, as he walked up to them. Larry’s jaw dropped open. Dr. Baker reminded him of King Kong. “Good, Doctor. I was just wondering how Harold Dickens is doing. Remember, the kid who came in with a major stomachache the other day?” Terri answered. “He’s doing fine. Just fine,” Dr. Baker said as he put his arm around Terri. “Hey! You’re engaged, remember?” Terri exclaimed. “Yeah, well, Linda works up in the ER. She’ll never know, if you wanna, you know,” Dr. Baker said slyly. “Why the heck are you hitting on her?” Larry suddenly said angrily. “Who’re you?” Dr. Baker asked angrily. “He’s a friend. Larry, I can take care of him,” Terri quickly said. “Oh, you can, can you?” Dr. Baker asked. “Um, I just said that to shut him up!” Terri said fearfully. “Good girl,” Dr. Baker. “Back off, buddy!” Larry said. “Make me!” Dr. Baker retorted. “Ok, I will!” Larry said and punched the doctor square in the face, knocking him out. “Larry! Why did you do that?” Terri asked, kneeling next to the doctor and checking his pulse. “He was hitting on you,” Larry replied simply. “Thank you, but you better get out of here before he wakes up,” Terri said. “Ok. See ya outside,” Larry said, and took off. When Larry reached the others without Terri, Janet immediately asked “Where’s Terri!?” “With Dr. Baker. She was right! He is a monster! He looks like King Kong for God’s sake! And he started hitting on her. But I knocked him out!” Larry explained proudly. “Good for you, Larry!” Janet said, “but I hope you didn’t hurt him too bad.” “No, he didn’t. He just made him really mad,” Terri said as she walked up behind the group. “Terri! Are you ok?” Janet asked. “Yes, I’m fine. Larry really saved me,” Terri said, trying to conceal a smile. Janet saw her and raised her eyebrows, but didn’t say anything. “Well, let’s get going,” Mr. Furley said. “Ok,” Terri agreed, “I need to be at work early tomorrow anyway.” When they got home, Janet went straight into the kitchen. “Are you ok?” Terri said, following her. “Yeah, I’m just, I’m fine,” Janet said. But Terri saw she was silently crying. “No you’re not! You’re crying!” Terri exclaimed. “I was just thinking how close I came to losing Jack, and when I just realized my feelings, too,” Janet explained. “Oh, yeah. But nothing life threatening. He’ll be fine,” Terri said. “I know. I just can’t imagine what would happen if his injuries were life threatening, or fatal,” Janet said. “Don’t try and imagine! Just thank God they weren’t any more serious than they are,” Terri said. “I know,” Janet said. “Let’s go to bed, ok?” Terri said. “Yeah,” Janet agreed. When they were finally ready for bed, Janet asked, “do you like Larry?” “What? What makes you think that?” Terri asked in shock. “I saw you grinning earlier,” Janet said. “Well, I appreciated what he did for me. I don’t think I really like him. But I might,” Terri said. “Ok. Well, goodnight then,” Janet said. Janet thought that Terri was lying. She knew that smile since it was the one she always had around Jack. “Well, I can’t do anything about it now. But I think I’ll talk to Larry tomorrow,” Janet thought. Then she said a silent prayer thanking God for taking care of Jack. "Today has been a rough day. But everything will work out," she reassured herself. Then, as she thought about Jack, she drifted into a restless sleep. |

I'm so sorry, but I'm finding it hard to write about true, neverending love right now. I need some time to heal from a relationship that I was so sure was gonna be forever, and I can't write about another relationship that works out. Yet. But I'm hoping I'll be ready to write again at least by the end of the month. I'm sorry for letting my problems get in the way of my writing, but this is a bad subject for me to focus on right now. But I promise not to leave this story unfinished. It'll just be delayed. Sorry.
