John, I recall you laughing the hardest at Letterman's Top Ten about Brokeback Mountain. Did you read somewhere that now you're supposed to be outraged?

I doubt that the comedians and late night hosts are homophobes and want gays to be exterminated.

And I read plenty of criticism about Munich, claiming that Spielberg was too sympathetic to the terrorists.

I don't frequent racist sites, but I'm sure somewhere a bunch of racists are tearing apart Crash.

well, Letterman has said he liked Brokeback Mountain. Conan O'Brien's jokes regarding the movie have been a lot more hurtful and more "I really hate this movie" than Letterman's more playful teasing of the storyline, it's Conan that I was thinking of when I pointed out talk show hosts, not Dave.

I haven't seen Brokeback Mountain yet. I say yet, because I plan on seeing it.

I am not gay and I am not a homophobe, but I certainly reserve the right to like or hate this movie without any criticism.

Most movie love stories are crap, so if I dislike this one it's not because it's gay themed, it's because of something else. And if there are laughable aspects of the movie I will make fun of it at will like I would ANY other movie.

My God I could go on for decades about the cheesy crapfest of love story chick flicks out there that are worthy of constant neverending insults- and I openly beg every filmmaker not to make such tripe again.

And any gay person who defends a movie JUST because it involves homosexuals is not an objective movie viewer. They just have an agenda.

So if I find Brokeback Mountain to be cheesy, unrealistic, sappy, stupid, insulting, manipulative or just plain crap, I reserve the right to give it every pot shot it deserves.

It has nothing to do with my sexual orientation or prejudice. Just prejudice against crap.

I expect to like the movie actually, but if I don't, well too bad.

Maybe Conan O'Brien really does hate the movie.

But there's a difference with not liking something and saying they should stop making movies that appeal to a certain market because you're not in that market. I don't like hip hop or reality tv, but there are others who do, and they have the right to enjoy it to their hearts desire instead of saying hip hop should be outlawed because I don't listen to it. I just listen to other music, but don't say they need to stop making hip hop music. There is an audience out there for gay movies and television, and many straight heterosexuals enjoy them too (I remember when Queer As Folk was at it's peak, a statistic said that straight women outnumbered gay men in the audience for that show 3 to 1), just because YOU personally don't like it doesn't mean everyone who does should sudden;y be deprived of it.
It is both religious and that I am not comfortable.

I never said to boycott this movie. I dont care if other people watch it. I just dont want to donate my money even if it is $6.25 out of multi millions, to a cause that I dont agree with.

Hell, I love gory slasher movies, many religous groups are against them. To ban a certain type of movie is unconstitutional.

But I will never watch Brokeback Mountain.

I will put it as simple as possible. Straight people are normal. Gay people are not.

Like it or not that is the difference.

true, but if he hated Munich, do you think he would start comments on that movie? No, he knows he'd never get another job in the town if he insulted a movie like that. But Brokeback? that's just fine.

god, you're worse than Solomon. It's really sad that you have such bitter hatred for people who have never done anything to you (or were you raped by a gay man?).

But you are 18, you probably have yet to experience the real world. It's like a lot of my high school classmates hated gays because it conflicted with their machismo, but years later, I encounter most of them and they don't even care anymore, many of them realize some of their friends are gay, and maybe their boss is gay, or whatever. Times change, people change, hopefully you will grow up as well or you will come off looking sad and bitter if in 10 years, you still freak out at the thought of gays or lesbians.

Little Mel is Christian, grown-up and conservative, and while he has said he doesn't agree with homosexuality, it hasn't stopped him from having gay friends, and he is someone who wouldn't refuse to watch a movie that looks like a good film just because there's a gay character in it. I think Brian Damage is the same way. Whereas the way you say things, you don't look any better than Jacob Robida.

isn't it a little hypocritical to hate gays and lesbians over religion, but gory movies are A-OK? you sound like you're shaping your religious beliefs to match your image. And as an 18 year old straight boy just trying to score with chicks and be cool, hating ******* is something to pick from because it increases your machismo factor than refusing to see a slasher movie that looks cool. Trust me, I know your type, I went to high school with a lot of these people (people who hate gays and use religion to excuse it, then do drugs and have premarital sex and get drunk and all these other things that regarded as "sins", but since they aren't gay, it's easier to use the gay excuse), and most of them have grown up since that I've run into in the eight years since.

Wanna bet? The last time I checked, gay people cried the same tears and bled the same blood. Just because someone sleeps with someone of the same gender, it's really not that much of a difference. We're all human beings no matter what.

I'll reiterate what I said earlier... if it pisses you off THAT badly, don't go and see it. Nobody's holding a gun to your head and saying, "you have to see the movie." Case closed.

I don't get that either. It's a sin for me to be in love wth a man, but when some of these supposedly religious people do any of the other stuff like you mentioned which are also considered sins, it's okay for them to do so. You can do almost anything to try and score a girl and it's no biggie. It's something I'll never get.
