How That's My Mama stacks up with the other Black Sitcoms from the 70's

Exactly, on AMEN the strong characters were Deacon Frye, Thlema, and Rolly and the Weak characters was Reverend, and the two fat sisters

If you like urban-sitcoms of the 1970s, then you are going to like That's My Mama; personally, I liked the show

Thats my Mama is a good show. It isn't great but its above average and still better than a lot of today's sitcoms.

The main characters were just too dry on this show. I like these shows better than that's my mama

I have not seen Sanford Arms, so I cannot compare that show with That's My Mama, but I have seen Baby, I'm Back..and I can see why you would perfer that sitcom over this one..it was not as dry and besides that it had Demond Wilson..and he sure beats Mabel King

That's why I'm confused that Baby I'm Back lasted only 13 eps and that's My Mama lasted 39 eps.

I guess that is one of the many mysteries of the history of television on why some shows (that are good) and only last a season and then some terrible show go on to last forever; perfect example Barney Miller..that show lasted 8 seasons

Soloman, why would you even want to compare all black sitcoms with each other to begin with? I wouldn't compare an all-white show with another all-white show, or compare "Freddie" with "George Lopez". That's ridiculous. If all black shows were created to stand up with or be compared with other black shows, then, there would be no need for any new shows.

They were all somewhat entertaining to me. No one really stands out. It's just that there isn't anyone on this show that gets on my nerves. As oppose to Good Times...JJ (once in a great while) James (occasionally) Flordia (occasionally) Willona (all the time).
