Post Fall 2002: What to expect from FOX

http://groups.google.com/groups?dq=&...v%26start%3D25

From Marc Berman

Fall 2002 Programming Snapshot:
What to Expect at FOX

-Already Renewed (or a Sure Shot for a Pick-up):
Boston Public, That'70s Show, Bernie Mac, Cops, America's Most Wanted,
The Simpsons, Malcolm in the Middle

-Also Expected Back:
24, Titus, Grounded for Life, King of the Hill

-On the Fence:
Undeclared, That'80s Show, Andy Richter Controls the Universe, Greg
the Bunny, Dark Angel, Futurama

-Waiting for the Axe to Swing:
Family Guy

-Canceled (or on Hiatus):
Ally McBeal, American Embassy, Pasadena, The Tick, Temptation Island
2, The Chamber, The X-Files

-Total Number of Hours in Need of Fixing:
7-8

Time Periods in Need of Potential Repair:
-Monday 9-10 p.m.
-Tuesday 8:30 - 9 p.m.
-Wednesday 8-9 p.m.
-Thursday: 8-10 p.m.
-Friday: 8-10 p.m.
-Sunday: 7-7:30 p.m., 9-10 p.m.

-What to Expect:
Although ABC has been the brunt of most of the bad (and well-deserved)
press this season, Fox is also coming off a year it would care to
forget. Mainstays Ally McBeal and The X-Files are ending, Undeclared
disappointed, Wednesday is a mixed bag, Thursday and Friday is in need
of major repair and midseason comedies That'80s Show, Andy Richter
Controls the Universe and Greg the Bunny are all questionable. On the
flip-side, Bernie Mac stood out opposite NBC's West Wing, 24 is a
critical favorite worth renewing, Boston Public made the sophomore
ratings grade, reality veterans Cops and America's Most Wanted kept on
ticking and The Simpsons and Malcolm in the Middle remained in the
winner's column. Does this mean Fox is ready to move Malcolm to
another night a la past time period occupants King of the Hill and
That'70s Show?

Other than Saturday, expect changes on the network every night of the
week. With Ally over, the new legal drama from David E. Kelley will
likely inherit the Monday 9 p.m. hour (and some potentially decent
ratings) thanks to lead-in Boston Public. Since 24 on Tuesday was not
the breakout it could be, a move to Sunday in place of The X-Files
could give the show just the push it needs to build in season two.
Although Fox will likely renew one of its three new midseason sitcoms
(That'80s Show, Andy Richter or Greg the Bunny), none of the three are
anywhere near initial levels for former midseason comedies Malcolm and
Titus. Thursday was all but empty because of the early collapse of
Family Guy, The Tick and Temptation Island 2 and the audience for Dark
Angel virtually evaporated on Friday thanks to airing the once
promising action hour on the wrong night of the week. Think
programming overhaul on Thursday and Friday.

Although moving Malcolm in the Middle from Sunday to another night has
to be considered a serious option, a better idea is to not mess with
success and worry more about the leaky 7 p.m. half-hour and 9 p.m.
hour on Sunday. Out of Malcolm and on the higher HUT level Sunday 24
could build momentum, don't you think?

Cool

I hope Andy Richter gets renewed. I really like that show.

As much as I love The Simpsons, I think it's time for it to go. While still great at times, it has become a shadow of it's former self.

I hope andy richter stays too, you never know though FOX is a goofy (understatment) network. As for moving Malcom, I dont think it is such a good idea I agree with the fact of not messing with success. However, in one or two more seasons the Simpsons will probably be gone (lets face it, for as good as the shows been for as many years, it has about run its corse it wont be on too many more years) a move for malcom may be a good idea. Im also curious about Grounded for Life, i wasnt really a huge fan at first, but its grown on me, any word on that show?

Family Guy needs to stay but it won't. Its been cursed since day one. I am shocked that Dark Angel might get cancelled. Shocked!

what to really expect from fox -- hey, i think these are pretty good guesses.

When Chain saws attack

Serial Killers --- a weekly hour drama revolving around a
psychotic family of 6 in Minesotta.

Profanity -- an animated half hour special revolving around
"profanity". Not suitable for children under 7.

Psycho Cop -- the workings of an inner-city precinct
and rampant police corruption.

Public Defender -- incompetent new lawyers use the American legal system and underpriviledged clients as an post-degree training ground.

Special : WHEN BUTTERFLIES ATTACK!

420 - a half hour comedy centered around teenage dope
addicts and drug dealers in the Florida Keys.

Hit Chick -- a weekly hour drama centering around a young, beautiful female assasin.

These Kids Today - a half-hour sitcom based on a single mother and her string of abusive boyfriends. First ep: Mom fights the court system to get her terribley abused children out of foster care. Also, a liason with her sister's boyfriend leaves her wondering whether he is the father of her unborn child, or if her best friends husband is responsible.

I'll let you know if i get anymore inside information. Later ~~

It was a mistake for them to abandon Dark Angel to Friday nights.

Ditto for Family Guy. They gave that show no comparable lead in (like say putting it with ANOTHER ANIMATED SERIES!!) plus they put it against Friends. That is a death sentence!

I think they should have tried to push Malcom to another time slot in the week. It has some potential to stand on it's own.

The shows "On the Fence:"
Undeclared, Andy Richter Controls the Universe, Greg
the Bunny, Futurama deserve to be renewed.
All of them have gotten more of a following than sophmore shows like Titus an Grounded For life.

Plus, I'm still pissed they canned the Tick.

Damn You FOX!!!

FOX really did screw family guy. I feel that the show had the potential for a Simpsons replacement but they kept screwing with the time slot, and just putting it on whenever they felt like it, they never gave it much of a chance. As for Dark Angel, never watched it, but I will miss seeing the previews....dang that chick is hot! oh well i guess ill have to find some more wholesome activities to replace staring at her.

No need to worry.
I'm sure if Dark Angel is cancelled by FOX, I'm sure it will live forever in reruns on the Sci Fi Channel.

The only show that I was disapointed that Fox cancelled was Titus I really loved that show. But I could careless about the cancelation of the X Files, Ally McBeal, and all that other crap they cancelled.

I checked the tv schedule and it looks like Dark Angel isn't even airing on SPACE anymore. It's too bad 'cause that show was really good.

Give it some time.
Sci Fi Channel would be foolish not to pick it up.

They have every other short lived sci fi series in their library.

I wouldn't be surprised if they pick up "Roswell" too.
