It's a matter of opinion, but I was just stating the FACTS. F A C T S. People can go on and on and on about Law and Order or NYPD Blue or ER, but they have NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING on daytime soaps.
Even amongst primetime, especially episode wise, night soaps have longer runs than regular, self-contained dramas. Dallas was on from 1978 to 1991 and made 357 episodes, not to mention a prequel movie in 1986 and two sequel movies, 1996 and 1998. Knots Landing, its spin-off, ran from 1979 to 1993 and had 344, and then in 1997, a four-hour miniseries reunion. Dynasty and Falcon Crest both ran for 9 seasons each (Spring 1981-1989, 1981-1990, respectively), and DYN made 219, FC had 227. Melrose Place made 227 episodes in seven seasons, but it took NYPD Blue over ten seasons to achieve that amount. Even the SHORTER running soaps made more episodes in relation to other dramas. Dynasty II: The Colbys, which only ran for two seasons, 1985-1987, made 49 episodes. Blue only made 44 episodes over two seasons. Now I know I sound like an extremely broken record, repeating this type of info over and over again, but when people are saying that Blue is the longest-running scripted show on ABC, without even considering the OTHER scripted shows on the network, I have to stand up for mah shows... |
