Okay, I know I shouldn't be writing ANOTHER fic, but when I get an idea, I like to go w/ it! I'll TRY to keep up on it!!!
Disclaimer: This is DJL’s show, I’m just borrowing an idea from when the show used to rock, and I counted down the days till Sunday at 9! :( :(

This fic takes place in Season 2’s episode "Keep Hope Alive." It starts after CD had to tell the
woman that her son was dead (even though he wasn’t) to get a confession out of her that
her husband was the actual person to kidnap the kids. You don’t need to be familiar with
it to understand this fic, I’m just giving all of ya a little background!
Nate has a girlfriend (which makes it different from season 2), and CD has
recently divorced.
So CD is really upset after the woman’s gone and is crying. Nate comes in to tell
her that they found the kid and he’s still alive. It picks up there, and hope you all enjoy!

CD cried into Nate’s shoulder, while he rocked her. “Shhh,” he replied. “It’s going to be
okay, CD, let it all out,” he replied and held her close.
“I had to LIE to that woman!” she shrieked. “About her own kid being dead!”
He nodded. “I know, CD,” he said as he stroked her hair out of her face.
Kate took that time to enter the room. “CD, how did it.........go,” she paused seeing
her two Inspectors.
CD looked up and turned her head away immediately, not wanting Kate to see her
cry.
“Cap, can you give us a minute?” Nate asked her.
Kate nodded and shut the door behind herself.
“That was embarrassing,” CD attempted to joke as she looked up at Nate with her
blood shot eyes.
He grinned. “Nah, not at all,” he reassured her and played with her hair again.
“You gonna be alright?”
She smiled. “Yeah, I’m fine. Just been a long week, ya know?”
He nodded and put his arm around her. “I sure do, partner.”
She sighed. “Well, I better go talk to the Cap then.”
He released his hand, nodded, and watched her go.

Kate waved CD in as soon as she saw her.
“Yes, before you ask, I’m perfectly fine, and no, I don’t want to talk about it,” CD
remarked.
“CD,” Kate pushed gently, “I’m so sorry you had to do that. It’s part of the job
sometimes, please understand that.”
CD nodded and tears welled up in her eyes. “I know that, Cap,” she choked out.
“It’s just hard sometimes.”
Kate nodded. “I want you going home early, CD. You’ve put in more than enough
time today.”
CD agreed. “I’m not even in the mood to argue with you.”
Kate grinned. “That’s a first,” she teased.
CD didn’t respond or even grin. “Can I go now?”
Kate nodded. “Yes, CD, you can go. I don’t want you driving yourself though,”
Kate announced. “Tell Nate to take you home.”
“Fine,” CD grumbled.
“I mean it, CD! If I hear otherwise.....” Kate started.
“You won’t because he’ll take me, alright?!” CD bitterly remarked and slammed
the door behind her.
Kate rubbed her temples and shut her eyes. “Damn, what a day,” she commented
and went back to her paperwork.

CD found Nate standing very close to Kate’s office.
“Oh, hey CD!” he exclaimed. “I was uh, getting some, uh......” he stammered.
“You were spying on me?” she asked and smiled.
He blushed. “Maybe a little,” he admitted. “So are you ready for me to take you
home then?”
She nodded but her bottom lip quivered and tears sprung to her eyes again.
“CD, what is it?” he whispered, knowing she’d be embarrassed if everyone else
saw her crying.
“I don’t want to go home,” she murmured through her tears and whispered softly
to him, “I don’t want to be alone tonight, Nate.”
He nodded, knowing what that feeling was like. He put his arms around her. “It’s
okay, CD, you won’t be alone. I’ll stay with you tonight.”
She blew out a sigh of relief. “Can we stay at your house?” she pleaded and then
realized what it sounded like. “I mean, if that’s okay! I don’t have to.....”
“Of course you can stay at my house, CD!” he exclaimed.
“Thank you,” she replied sheepishly and let him walk her out to his car.

Oh, yes, I love that ep! I've watched that last scene of them about 100 times!

And YES, Lisa, you silly girl, POST MORE!!!! This is so amazing! I just saw that ep again, and I was just thinking about how that could have turned into something else. ;) Those two always had such a special bond, that words can't even describe.....

They arrived at his apartment fifteen minutes later, and Nate unlocked the door.
“Thank you,” she replied when he held it open for her.
He nodded and shut it behind them. “I’m sorry, I don’t have much food, you want me to order out something?”
She shrugged. “It doesn’t matter, if you want to you can.”
He laughed. “If ya leave it up to me, I’ll order something from every delivery place in San Fran!” he exclaimed.
CD laughed. “Okay, okay, let’s get a pizza or something.”
He grinned and nodded. They discussed toppings and such, so Nate could call it in. After the order was placed, Nate got them some Coke to drink, and they had a seat on the couch.
“I haven’t been all the way in here before,” CD commented. “You've got a nice place.”
He acknowledged his compliment. “Thanks,” he said and turned on the TV.
Nothing was on, and they didn’t know what to say to each other.
Finally, CD broke the ice. “Nate, I guess I should apologize to that woman tomorrow,” she announced. “It’s the only halfway considerate thing I can think of.”
Nate shook his head. “No you don’t, CD, it’s already taken care of.”
“What?” she questioned him.
“I talked to her already. I explained what happened, and she asked if you would talk to her tomorrow. She wasn’t very angry with you, actually. She was just happy that
her son was still alive.”
CD nodded and silently thanked him for doing her dirty work. “Wouldn’t anyone be?” she rhetorically said.
The doorbell rang, and Nate went and answered it for the delivery man. He paid and tipped him and brought the steaming hot pizza in the room. “How does this look?” he
asked her as he opened the lid.
“Mmmm, it looks great!” she commented and followed him into the kitchen for
supper.

That night Nate had given her the full tour of his apartment. They were in his room talking, and it was getting late.
“I’d better start thinking about bed, Nate, it’s after midnight,” CD told him.
Nate nodded after he looked at the clock. “Wow, where’d the time go?”
She grinned. “I don’t know,” she replied and turned to him. “Um, could I uh,
borrow some clothes to sleep in?” she blushed.
He smiled. “Of course!” he told her and went to his dresser. He pulled out an old
Tshirt and a pair of boxers. “These work okay?”
She nodded. “More than okay,” she replied, accepted the clothes and hugged him. “Thank you for everything.”
He hugged her back. “Anytime, CD, don’t ever hesitate to come to me.”
She nodded and left the room to sleep on the couch.

A couple of hours went by, and CD was having a nightmare. She
shouted out, crying, “I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry! I had to do it, Cap said it
was my job!”
Nate heard her and ran into the room. He saw her fighting the
dream, and immediately shook her awake.
“Na Na Nate..” she stammered. “What’s going on?” she asked,
tears rolling down her eyes.
“Shhh, honey, you were just having a nightmare,” he explained and
hugged her. “You’re okay now.”
She shook her head. “I don’t want to be out here by myself
anymore,” she commented and held on to him. “Can I sleep in your
room?” she asked in a little voice.
He nodded. “Of course you can, CD!” he exclaimed and helped her up and
into his room.
He laid her into bed. “Won’t she be mad?” CD asked.
“Who?”
“Your girlfriend?”
Nate’s face contorted, completely forgetting the fact that he
actually had a girlfriend. He shook his head. “I don’t see why, but if she
was, then it doesn’t matter because you’re bunkin’ with me tonight,
roomy,” he said and climbed into the other side of the bed.
She grinned at his protectiveness and buried her head into a pillow.
“Nate?” she whispered after he’d turned the light off.
“What is it?” he asked her.
“Will you hold me tonight?” she slightly pleaded.
He grinned and scooted closer to her, placing one arm under her
neck and the other across her middle. “How’s this?”
She blushed and shivered to the touch of his bare skin on her body.
“It’s fine,” was her understatement before her mind fell into a complete
slumber for the rest of the night.

CD awoke bright and early the next morning. She glanced over at Nate,
who still had his arms safeguarded around her. She grinned as she
watched him sleep. He slightly snored, and his left eye twitched every
now and then.
Finally, she decided to get up and start her day. She needed
something to thank him for being so sweet to her the night before, and
the only thing she could think of was what she knew he’d love-- a huge
breakfast.
She was busily flipping pancakes when someone knocked on the
door. Forgetting she was a guest in Nate’s apartment, she answered the
door without looking in the peephole.
CD glanced at the woman standing in front of her while her jaw
almost hit the ground.
“CD, what the hell are you doing here?” the woman bitterly asked
her.
“This isn’t what it looks like,” CD tried to convince her. “Don’t
jump to the wrong conclusions, okay? I know it seems bad from where
you’re standing, and we technically slept together, but I swear we didn’t
sleep together, I promise!”
The woman rolled her eyes. “It’s not what it looks like, CD?” she
rhetorically asked her. “Oh, so you’re not really in Nate’s apartment at
6:30 in the morning in his SHIRT and BOXERS with your hair all messed
up?” she paused to swat at the back of CD’s hair. “Aw, and look, you’re
sweetly making him coffee while he sleeps,” she rolled her eyes. “Ya
could’ve fooled me it isn’t what it looks like,” she sneered as she walked
to Nate’s bedroom.

Nate shook his head no.
“Fine, I’ll go after her. This is all my fault anyway,” CD commented
and made her way to the front door.
“CD, stop!” Nate called after her. “It’s okay, really. I, I don’t want
to go after her,” he stuttered. “Her and I weren’t good together
anyway.”
CD’s eyes welled up. “Yes, you were! I saw the way she looked at
you, Nate! She loved you! I screwed this up for you, so let me go make it
right,” he replied as she choked up.
“Hey,” Nate simply stated, stood up, and grabbed CD’s elbows with
his big hands. “Don’t blame yourself, CD. This isn’t your fault, our
relationship just wasn’t meant to be,” he explained to her. “I don’t want
you to go after her because I’m better off without her.”
She shook her head. “No, no you’re not, Nate! You need someone
good to you, and Lily was GREAT to you!”
He nodded. “Yeah, she was, but she’s not what I needed,” he
replied and wiped the little tears off of her cheeks. He grinned and
teased her, “You DO wear my clothes pretty damn well.”
She punched his arm. “Nate, stop it! I told you I was sorry, don’t
make me feel any worse!”
He laughed and hugged her. “I was kidding, grouchy! Geez, you’re
not a morning person, are ya?”
She forgot where she was at. All she could feel were the arms
around her. They were so strong and affectionate. “Huh, what did you
say?” she asked him, dazed.
He smiled. “Just agree with me, CD, that’ll be for the best.”
She nodded as he pulled away from her. “Fine, I agree,” she
murmured, still stunned but his warmth. “Nate, I’m sorry to keep asking,
but you’re not giving me very good answers. Why can’t you or I go after
Lily?”
He sighed and sat down on the bed, waiting for her to join her.
“Nate, what is it?” she asked him after she sat down.
He grinned. “CD, the relationship you saw was from her point of
view. Lily was great to me, and she was a very nice person, but I didn’t
love her,” he paused to touch her hand. “I love someone else, CD.
Someone I’m not supposed to be in love with,” he replied and interlaced
his fingers with hers.
CD could not believe what he was saying. She’d waited for this
moment for a long time, even before her divorced was finalized the week
before. But did he mean her? What if he was talking about someone else,
and she made an ass out of herself? She grinned. “Nate, it’s okay if
you’re gay, I understand!” she teased him to hopefully get off the
subject. “Even though you’re not supposed to be in love with men..........”

awwwwwwwwwwwwwww this is turning into a Nate/Teddy story!!!!! How cute!!!!!! Or Casey? ;)

CD glanced at Nate. “Oh, uh hi Brian!” she tried to sound enthused.
“What’s up?”
Nate turned away from CD and grimaced. He was so close.
“Not much, I just wanted to catch you before you went to work,”
Brian told her. “I want to take you to dinner tonight, CD!”
CD looked at Nate, who had randomly turned a light red. “Um,
tonight? I don’t know, I might have a stakeout or something.”
“Oh,” Brian replied, disappointed. “Well, call me later, baby,
maybe you won’t have to!”
She nodded. “Okay, Brian, sounds great. Talk to ya later,” she replied
and hung up. “Sorry bout that,” she told Nate, “what were you saying?”

kitchen.
She laughed “Yeah, sure do,” she replied and went back to her
batter.
“This is really nice of you,” he commented as he got out bacon
from the refrigerator. “Starting breakfast I mean.”
“Nate, you’re the one who let me stay here with you last night! I
even ruined your relationship with Lily. YOU’RE the sweet one!” she
remarked.
He grinned. “You ruined that relationship before this morning,”
Nate happily said aloud.
“What did you say?” she asked him.
“Uh, nothing,” he mumbled. “But I have a question for you,” he
said, trying to change the subject.
“What is it?”
“If you didn’t want to be alone last night, why didn’t you just go to
Brian’s?”
She blushed, realizing that her boyfriend’s house would’ve been the
legitimate place to stay at. “I, uh, didn’t want to bother him,” she
mumbled.
“Oh,” Nate replied and went back to frying the bacon.

They sat down and had their breakfast quietly. They shoveled in the
food as fast as they could, not because of hunger but because of the
uncomfortable silence.
Finally, Nate broke the stillness. “CD, I gotta tell you something,
but I don’t know what you’re going to say.”

Finally, Nate broke the stillness. “CD, I gotta tell you something, but I
don’t know what you’re going to say.”
She looked up at him. “What is it?” she asked him seriously.
“I, uh, well, I, uh, just wanted to let you know that.....” he
stammered. “I’m glad you didn’t want to bother Brian last night.”
“You are?” she asked, confused.
He nodded shyly. “I’m glad you came to me,” he whispered.
She grinned bashfully. “I’m glad I did, too,” she softly replied.
He beamed at her surprising response and walked over to seat to
hug her. “I’m always here for you, ya know that right?”
She nodded, hugging him back. “Of course I know that, silly!” she
exclaimed and kissed his cheek. “You’re my best friend, Nate, I know
you’ll always be there for me.”
He nodded but asked shyly, “CD, can I get a bigger one?”
CD’s eyebrows wrinkled up. “A bigger what?”
He smiled. “Can I kiss you?” he asked. “Can I kiss you for real?”

He nodded but asked shyly, “CD, can I get a bigger one?”
CD’s eyebrows wrinkled up. “A bigger what?”
He smiled. “Can I kiss you?” he asked. “Can I kiss you for real?”
She blushed. “Naaate,” she mumbled, “do you think that’s such a
great idea?”
He shook his head. “Probably not,” he replied honestly as he
cupped her face in his hands and gently kissed her lips. Soaring passion
raced through both of their bodies, and Nate pulled back. “But doesn’t
that speak for itself?”
CD smiled timidly and nodded. “It sure does,” she replied as she
kissed HIM this time.
He put his arms around her as their kiss deepened. He picked her
up and sat her on the table, so they were at eye level now. His mouth
kissed her neck gently.
“Naaaaaaaaaaaate,” she murmured, trying to focus, but his lips
were just too overpowering. “Nate, we can’t,” she told him.
He immediately pulled back. “We can’t?” he said sadly. “Why not?”
“Were you going to take me right then and there on your kitchen
table?” she asked him.
“CD, honestly, I’d take you anywhere, anytime, anyplace. You think
I’m exaggerating, but I’m not!” he explained to her. “I’m very attracted
to you CD, and I know you feel the same way I do.”
She shook her head. “How do you know what I feel when I myself
don’t know what to feel?”
He grinned. “Because I know you too well,” he replied and kissed
her lips again.
CD gave up the hard ball act and kissed the man back. She parted
his lips to let her tongue come and play, and he greeted her with a
firearm as well. She moaned again when he slid his hands up and down
her hip bones, turning her on like crazy.
He laid her down on the table and moved his shirt on her up a little
to kiss her belly. “Ohmygosh,” he muttered as he left a little hickey
beside her belly button. “Is this really happening to me?”
She sat back up. “No, I’m sorry, it’s not,” she replied. “Nate, I’m
sorry, but I can’t do this with you!”
“Do what?” he asked her. “What we were getting ready to do or
being with me in general?”
She smiled. “I don’t think I can have sex with you, Nate,” she
replied honestly. “Not yet anyway. You DID just break up with your
girlfriend.”
He nodded, completely understanding. “I’m so sorry, CD, I didn’t
mean to make you decide so soon,” he told her. “I got carried away, and
I.....”
She put her finger to his lips. “It’s alright, Nate, I know what you
want to say, and I know that you’d stop whenever I say no,” she paused to
hold his hand. “I trust you, Nate, and even though I don’t want to have sex
with you, does NOT mean I don’t want to do THIS,” she proclaimed and
captured his lips again.
He smiled at her eagerness and accepted her invitation to a make
out session.

“Nate, I don’t know. I honestly think we’re making a big mistake,
so I don’t think we should be with each other as more than just partners
and best friends,” she explained.
“And there’s nothing I can do to change your mind?” he asked her
sadly.
“You can let me make my own decisions,” she muttered. “And it’s kind of
hard for me to trust you, since you’d lay me an hour after you’ve broken
up with your girlfriend. What does that tell me about what you’d do to me
the first time we get in a fight?”
“CD!” Nate exclaimed. “I am in love with you, why can’t you see
that?” he asked her. “Ask me for anything, I’ll give it to ya, or I’ll find it
for ya. Go ahead, ask me.”
CD decided to play his little game. “Fine, I want you to take me by
surprise, do something for me that I would never think a man would do,
and I want you to promise you can always be honest with me, no matter
how hard it is.” she sighed when she saw his bedazzled look. “Ya see? I
told you that I was too much for you.”
“No, it’s not that at all!” Nate replied. “I didn’t think you’d make it
that easy!” he admitted and kissed her.
“Nate, no, I mean it, don’t kiss me,” she remarked and pulled
away.

He nodded. “Sorry, I just got a little excited,” he explained and put
her face into his hands. “CD, I’ll do one thing for you right now. I
absolutely promise you that I will be completely honest with you for the
rest of my life. I will love you and cherish you and.......”
“Nate, stop,” she commented and put a finger to his lips. “Not yet,
I have some business to tend to,” she replied and got out her cellphone.
“Hello?” a voice answered.
“Hi, it’s CD.”
“CD!” Brian exclaimed. “Did ya change your mind?”
“No, I’m busy tonight,” CD told him. “But I need to see you; would
you have any time to stop by the Division, before or after one of your
clients?”
“Of course I can, honey!” Brian happily said. “I can be right over,
actually. I don’t have a client until 10.”
She nodded. “Okay, I’ll be at the Division in 5 minutes, so whenever
you can make it, I’ll be there” she replied and hung up.
Nate smiled and kept his eyes on the road as he drove happily the
rest of the way to work.

CD paced the floor until Brian showed up. She was getting herself
and Nate each a cup of coffee when he came in, and he decided to
surprise her.
He came up from behind her, put his hands across her eyes and
kissed her neck. “Hey baby, guess who!” he purred into her ear.
He took her by surprise, and she immediately spilled both cups of
coffee, mainly on the front of her shirt. “Dammit, look what you made
me do!” she shouted.
“I’ll get some paper towel,” Nate told her and stood up.
She shook her head. “Don’t worry about it, this shirt is ruined
anyway,” she mumbled as she peeled the clingy white shirt away from her
skin. “Brian and I need to talk now anyway,” she replied and walked him
into an empty interrogation room.
“CD, I’m so sorry,” Brian apologized. “I didn’t mean....”
She held her hand up. “I know you didn’t mean to spill coffee on
me, Brian, it’s alright.” she sighed. “I have to tell you something that
you’re not going to like,” she mumbled and stared at the ground.
“What is it?” he asked her worriedly. “You don’t want to go to the
art festival with me this weekend?”
She shook her head. “That’s not it, but now that you say it, I can’t
go with you there.” she paused. “Or anywhere for that matter.”
“Huh?”
“We can’t see each other anymore, Brian, I’m so sorry,” she told him. “I
would be lying to you if I said I was completely happy because I’m not. I
want more than what we have. I NEED more, Brian, and we just can’t give
that to each other.”
“What do you need?” he pleaded. “I promise, CD, we can figure out
something! I’ll change! I’ll stop chewing with my mouth open and cooking
all the time! We can go out more often! I’ll let my wife have Michael more
often!”
CD shook her head. “No, Brian, that’s crazy!” she exclaimed. “I
don’t want to date you anymore, and that’s that,” she sighed. “I’m so
very sorry I’ve hurt you,” she said, almost whispering.
“Not as sorry as I am,” Brian muttered and walked out of the
room.
CD lied her head onto the table and gently teared up. She didn’t want to
cry, and frankly, she didn’t really need to cry because she hadn’t ever
loved Brian. He was a great guy, but he wasn’t what she needed in her life
forever.

Since SOMEONE left me really early last night, I had plenty of time to write more, so have at it! PLUS, I got 9 hours of sleep, wasted away at school, AND we're under 2 hour delay again tomorrow! WAHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! So here's more!!!! :D

CD lied her head onto the table and gently teared up. She didn’t want to
cry, and frankly, she didn’t really need to cry because she hadn’t ever
loved Brian. He was a great guy, but he wasn’t what she needed in her life
forever.

Nate watched Brian storm out and decided to give CD a couple of
minutes to recooperate. When she didn’t come out 15 minutes later, he
decided to check up on her.
She had her face in her hands, and she was staring off into space.
She had cried a little, and her make up had smeared. All he could see
was how beautiful his heartbroken guardian angel looked.
He didn’t say a word because he knew she wouldn’t want to talk,
but he simply put his arms around her.
She turned around and buried her body onto him. “Don’t ever let
me go,” she whispered as she held on to him.
He nodded. “Never, CD, I promise.”
She stayed in this silent arms for a couple of minutes, but she soon
broke away. “Let’s get back to work, alright? I don’t need to think about
this right now.”
He nodded and looked at her as she stood up to leave. “Wait, CD, I
think I need to offer you this,” he replied and took his button up shirt off.
“Why?” she questioned him as he situated his short sleeve shirt.
Her white shirt had become completely seethrough, and her pink
bra had shown through. He could see a perfect outline of each of her
breasts, and even though he immensely enjoyed it, he didn’t want anyone
else basking in his wealth.
“I don’t want anyone taking a peek at your merchandise before I
finish my good deeds and get to have an eye witness view!” he explained
to her and wrapped the shirt around her, even buttoning it for her as
well. “That’s better!”
She rolled her eyes and grinned. “Why, thank you, Sir,” she
laughed. “And yes, if you’re expecting us to get together, then you’d
better have a surprise and an unexpected event planned for me soon, or
you’ll have no chance!” she joked.
“You got it!” Nate exclaimed, and she laughed at his enthusiasm.
“Coming sometime soon, you won’t know what hit ya!” he promised her.
She got right into his face, her lips almost touching his. “Can’t
wait,” she whispered and walked away with his heart in her grasp.
“Damn woman, doesn’t know what she does to me,” he muttered
and followed his partner for work.

It was a slow day for crime, which was beneficial to the CD/Nate duo, who
wouldn’t have been able to handle anything too big. Kate could see the air
dancing in their heads, thinking it was due to both of their break-ups,
according to Raina’s gossip.
Early evening when they were getting ready to sign out, CD asked Nate,
“What are you doing tonight?”
“I’m going home and planning. Why?”
“You want to have dinner with me?” she questioned him.
He grinned and shook his head. “No thank you,” he replied, “I don’t
deserve to be in your presence yet because I haven’t fulfilled your
deeds.”
She rolled her eyes. “It was a joke,” she lied. “Those things don’t
matter, so come eat with me!”
“Nope, sorry,” he told her giving her a friendly hug. “You asked for
it, you’re getting it. I have to prove to you that I can keep my promises,
and I will do always do anything you need to me to.”
She pouted. “I need you to have dinner with me,” she simply
stated.
No one was looking, so he kissed her forehead. “Not tonight,
sweety, but can I ask a question?”
She sighed, knowing she’d lost. “Sure, anything,” she muttered
unhappily.
He grinned at her pouty looks. “Can I have the key to your
apartment?”
“You won’t have dinner with me, but you want the key to my bed?”
He smiled. “No, actually I want the key to your heart, so I need the
key to your apartment to drop something off late tonight,” he explained. “And I don’t want to say anymore because that would ruin the surprise.”
She nodded. “Fine,” she replied and opened her desk for her extra
set of keys. “Here ya go,” she told him and threw them at him.
“Thank you, sweety,” he responded. “You know you’re absolutely
beautiful when you’re mad at me?”
She tried to keep him from seeing her grinning. “Shut up,” she
muttered, and couldn’t help but smile.
He laughed and kissed her once more. “I’ll talk to you later then,”
he replied and started to leave.
“Hey Nate?” CD called after him.
“What is it?” he asked her.
“Tonight, if you want to wake me,” she paused, blushing, “wake
me.”
He grinned, nodded and quickly left the division, so he wouldn’t
give up his promise and end up taking her to dinner.

That night, CD camped out in her recliner, forcing herself to
stay awake for him. She channel surfed for over an hour, ate some of
the rotini she’d made earlier, listened to some music, but could
never quite hear the words, so finally she turned on the late night
news, falling asleep a little after 2.
Nate had been out most of the night, reserving, buying, and
scheming. He’d finally made a purchase he was a happy with, and
he went home to wrap it to waste time before he went to her house.
At 2:30 he decided it was late enough and walked upstairs to
CD’s apartment. He very quietly opened and shut her door, seeing the
sweetest thing in the world as soon as he entered the living room.
CD was sprawled out in the chair, her legs hanging over the
side and her mouth was slightly open. Her hair had drooped across
her eyes, and she had started to shiver.
Nate grinned and sat her gift down on the coffee table and
took the pink roses he got her to her bedroom. He came back to see
she hadn’t moved, so he gently went to her and picked her up.
CD didn’t even flinch, she was that asleep. He carried her to
her bed and laid her softly down. “I’ll be right back,” he whispered.
Nate then went back to the living room to get the gift and
placed it at the foot of her bed. “Sweet dreams, honey,” he said
delicately and kissed her forehead. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”

The next morning CD’s alarm clock rang to early for her. “Damn
stupid thing,” she muttered as she hit it and realized she was in her
bed. “How in the hell did I get here?” she mumbled, sitting up.
CD smiled when she saw the gift. She reached down at the
bottom of her bed to pick it up, and on her way back, she noticed the
flowers. She blushed, even though she knew he wasn’t there still.
“That man is too good to be true,” she said as she opened up the
box. In it was a dress and a card.
She stood up to examine it and pull it out of the box. The dress
was a maroon ankle length phenomena with slits cut up both sides.
The chest of it was a deep V neck, and her face reddened just thinking
about being in it.
She opened the card to read.

~CD:
I know this dress isn’t normally what you would choose because
you’re much too conservative, but tonight’s the night to let your hair
down and show off every flawless curve of your body. I wanted to pick
something even more sensual, but I knew you would refuse. By the
way, this is the part of our deal. This covers the “something you never
thought I do for you.” Before I met you, I, myself, never thought I’d be
buying any dress for a woman!
I love you, CD. I hope you realize that. I will see you later today.

P.S. By the way you’re not going to work today. Kate and I discussed,
and we came to the conclusion that you and I need the day off. Go back to bed, I’m sure you were up late, and be ready to leave by noon.
Wear nice clothes to start with and pack a bag with your dress; you’re
about ready to get part two- your surprise.~

CD grinned and reread the card four times. She was much too
excited to go back to bed, so she went ahead and packed an overnight
bag and sat it by the door. She tried on the dress and decided that
even though she was skeptical at first, loved it very much.
She puttered around the house, cleaning and wasting time before
noon came. She called Nate’s cell phone and house, just to get a hint
as to what they were doing. Both places he didn’t answer. She sighed
and sat down, waiting impatiently for her noon arrival.

At precisely noon there was a knock on CD’s door. She ran to it
and was disappointed to find a man she’d never met standing face to
face with her. “Hello, can I help you?” she asked.
“Yes, are you Candace DeLorenzo?” the shorter man asked.
She nodded. “Yes, I am, and you are?”
The man smiled. “I’m your driver, ma’am,” he explained and saw
her bag and box. “Is this all of your luggage?”
She nodded, confused. “Um, did you say driver?”
“Yes, Ms. DeLorenzo, your car is waiting downstairs if you’d
follow me.”
She shrugged and decided to fall in behind him.
He insisted on taking both items and led her down to her ride.
A white stretch limo was sitting outside for her. The man opened
the trunk and put her stuff in, and then he opened the door for her.
“Um, thank you very much,” she muffled, still a little uneasy.
He got in as well, and CD started talking to him.
“Where are we going?” she asked him.
He smiled. “It’s a surprise, Ms. DeLorenzo.”
She grinned as well. “Call me, CD, Sir.”
He nodded. “Alright CD, you can call me Carl then.”
“Okay, Carl, so can you at least tell me if Nate will be waiting for
me, or do I have to wait even more for him?”
“Mr. Basso will be there, CD,” he explained. “He had to go ahead
of you to situate and confirm the details.
She nodded and rode silently to her destination.

Carl pulled up to the Hilton hotel. “We’re here, CD!” he excitedly
told her.
She was in awe at the fancy and deluxe aspects of the place.
“Oh my gosh,” she murmured as Carl opened the door for her.
“Alright, Ma’am, I’ll take you to your meeting place,” he replied
and got out his cellphone.
CD followed Carl into the hotel, and Carl placed a call.
“Yes, Sir, yes, alright,” he said and hung up the phone.
“What’s going on?” CD asked him.
“Mr. Basso needs a couple of more minutes, but he told me that
my job is done, so here is where I leave you,” he explained. “Good luck,
CD,” he encouraged her.
She nodded and shook his hand. “Thank you so much, Carl,” she
replied and watched him leave.
CD stood there waiting for Nate for a good five minutes before he
walked down to greet her.
She grinned from ear to ear as soon as she saw him.
“Hi sweety,” he welcomed her with a kiss.
“You’re late,” she teased him and gave him a hug.

More roses, this time red, white, and pink, were spread
throughout the room. Candles surrounded the bed, and champagne was
chilling by the CD player, which had the mode music playing.
Chocolate covered strawberries were on the other side of the bed, and
Hershey Kisses were generously placed from the floor up to the bed.
“What are the kisses on the floor for?” she asked him.
He blushed. “You’re going to think I’m corny,” he realized and
started to pick them up.
She grinned and took his hand. “No, I won’t!” she promised him
and put her arms around him. “Tell me, Nate,” she paused and pouted
her bottom lip. “Please?”
He smiled and decided to tell her. “Well, I was planning on telling
you what those kisses represent,” he started and looked at the ground,
blushing. “Um, well, uh....”
“Nate, look at me,” she said and brought his face back to hers.
“Tell me,” she repeated.
He nodded. “The kisses represent what I feel for you. Now that
I’ve kissed the ground you walk on, I would love more than anything to
kiss you like there’s no tomorrow.”

unbuttoned the first button. “Sure you don’t want to help?”
He shook his head no. “Not right now, baby, you do it. I’ll go change in
the bathroom,” he replied, kissed her cheek, and left her to be alone.
“Fine,” she muttered and took off her shirt and pants. She put her
evening wear on for the second time and decided that she looked
great. She got out her make up bag and added some blush, eyeliner
and lip gloss to set off her look. Her hair was cute, flipped out and
perfect, and she was ready to go.
Nate came out of the bathroom in a three piece suit and his hair
was combed down, looking neat as a pin. He blushed when he saw how
perfect that dress that he’d picked for her actually looked. He knew
she’d look great, but his heart wasn’t ready for what stood in front of
him.
“You look absolutely gorgeous, CD,” he told her and outstretched
her arms to get a full look at her. The dress clung to her curves and
accentuated her breasts. “Absolutely gorgeous.”
She blushed. “Thank you,” she murmured, not used to those kind
of compliments. “You look pretty amazing yourself.”
He nodded. “Of course I do, you’re standing right beside me!”
She giggled. “Stop it, Nate, you’re embarrassing me!”
He smiled and slipped something out of a box. “Here, let’s make
your wrist look as beautiful as the rest of you,” he said and slipped a
matching red and white rose corsage.
She grinned. “Thank you, it’s beautiful,” she commented.
“You’re welcome,” he replied and looked at her other wrist. “That
doesn’t look right,” he remarked as he took her wrist into his hands.
“What’s wrong with it?” CD asked him.
He grinned. “It looks so bare,” he replied and pulled out yet
another box. “Maybe this will help it out a little.”
CD shook her head. “Nate! I don’t need anything else.”
He smiled. “Doesn’t matter, you get it anyway.”
She sighed but opened the little jewlry box excitedly.
In it was a silver bracelet with “Candace” engraved in the middle
of it. On each side of her name were two cut out hearts.
“Nate, it’s beautiful,” she told him as she flipped it over. In the
inside were three little words that always felt good to hear- ‘I love you.’
CD blushed and kissed his cheek. “Thank you so much for this
day, Nate. I don’t deserve any of this,” she told him as she put her arms
around him.
He shook his head. “CD, you deserve so much more than what I
can give you. “
She disagreed. “No, I don’t Nate, all I need is you. You don’t have to
spoil me with all of these gifts.”
“But it’s fun!” he remarked. “I want you to know how special you
are to me.”
She nodded. “I understand that, and I appreciate it so much,” she
replied. “And Nate?”
He smiled. “Yes?”
“Please let me pay you back for all of this. I don’t need all of it,
and you shouldn’t have to buy all of it. I’ll pay half at least,” she
promised him as he shook his head.
“Sure you can pay for it,” he smirked. “Not with money, though.
You’ve got a LOT to make up for all of this,” he teased her, “and you
can start making payments as soon as we go back upstairs,” he
explained to her.
She giggled and got right up in his face. “You can count on it,”
she told him and held out her hand, ready for him to escort her
downstairs.

got a LOT to make up for all of this,” he teased her, “and you can start
making payments as soon as we go back upstairs,” he explained to
her.
She giggled and got right up in his face. “You can count on it,”
she told him and held out her hand, ready for him to escort her
downstairs.
He accepted it, and they walked downstairs to the fancy
restaurant. “Basso, reservation for two,” he said to the greeter.
“Yes, Sir, right this way,” the woman grinned and led them to a
table with matching roses from their room.
Nate held out the chair for her, and she graciously thanked him.
She noticed a Hershey kiss lied on her plate, and she asked him about
it. “You’ve been down here, too?” she teased him.
He grinned and nodded. “Yep,” he replied and smirked. “Would it
be too late to use the line, ‘Now that I’ve kissed the plate that you eat
off of.....’”
CD laughed. “Oh, yes, WAY to late to try that one!” she
exclaimed, but captured his hand from the other side. “Because I’ve
already fallen for the other line,” she whispered and blew him a kiss.
He acted like he caught it and put it in his pocket. “I’m saving it
for later,” he explained.
She shook her head and grinned. “You’re something else, Nathan
Basso,” she remarked.
“Why thank you!” he exclaimed and saw the waiter coming.
“You’re gonna still be thinking that once he gets here!” he said as he
nodded at the waiter.
“Our finest wine, Sir,” the waiter commented and sat it down
after pouring the lady a drink. “Here are your stuffed mushrooms, and
your shrimp and steak dinners will be out shortly,” he promised the
customers. “Sorry for your wait, Sir.”
Nate nodded. “Don’t worry about it, we’re perfectly fine here,” he
replied.
The waiter nodded and walked away.
“Nate!” CD hissed. “Their finest wine?! That must be a fortune!
We don’t need it; we have that champagne upstairs.”
He grinned. “We’ll drink that later,” he promised her.
CD’s eyebrows went up and her forehead wrinkled. “Mr. Basso,
are you planning on getting me drunk?”
He smirked. “Well, not COMPLETELY trashed!” he teased her. “I
want you to remember what I did to you all night!”
She giggled. “Oh, I’m pretty sure I would remember no matter
HOW much I drink!”
“In that case!” he teased her and filled her glass to the top.
“Drink up!”
She rolled her eyes. “You’re such a dork,” she commented but
raised her glass. “How about a toast?”
He smiled and raised his glass to hers.
CD pondered what to say. “How about, to this night?” she asked

He smiled and raised his glass to hers.
CD pondered what to say. “How about, to this night?” she asked

She laughed and sipped hers.
The waiter quickly brought out their shrimp and steak dinner,
and the two quickly ate their meal, ready to go back upstairs.
Finally, CD put in her last bite.
“Ya ready?” Nate asked her as she was still chewing.
“Yeah, sure,” she mumbled while still nibbling. “Let’s get out of
here.”
Nate threw down the money and tip, and they walked out and
back to their room. CD turned her back to him as soon as she closed
the door.
“Unzip me please,” she begged hurriedly.
Nate laughed. “Calm down, baby, we have the whole night,” he replied
sweetly.
She still waited impatiently. “Yeah, but I’ve waited 33 years for a
night like this, Nate, I can’t stay calm!” she exclaimed and pointed to
the zipper again. “Take it off of me!”
He smiled and slowly unzipped her dress, softly caressing her
back. He slipped the dress off of her top half and gently stroked her
black strapless bra.
She grinned and took his hands into hers to lead him down the bottom
part of the dress. She grinned when he stared at her shapely body in
her little panties.
“And what are you gawking at?” she teased him.
He smiled and leaned in. “The most beautiful thing I’ve seen in
my entire life,” he murmured and hugged her close to him. He kissed
her neck slowly, careful not to break his precious porcelain doll.
She unbuttoned the vest of his suit and started to get him to
where she wanted him.
He helped her along the way, and the next thing she knew, they
were tumbling around in the bed.
“Taaaaake me, baby!” CD shouted and dug her nails into his
back.
He smiled. “What, no foreplay?” he teased her and spread her
legs to take off her underwear and then his own.
“Noooo, please go now,” she begged him.
He grinned. “Fine, but I’m adding that to your tab,” he joked and
entered her fastly and glided his hands around her hips, rotating them,
so he could go in farther.

“Holy helllllllll,” CD yelled and gripped the headboard.
“That’s what I wanna hear,” he muttered and rocked with her.
She moved simultaneously with him. “I love you so much,” she
murmured and kissed his chest.
“Ditto,” was all Nate could get out before the next wave hit him.

After their first escapade was done, CD and Nate were lying in
bed. CD was lying on Nate’s chest, and he was feeding her the
chocolate strawberries.
“Mmmm, these are great,” CD remarked.
“Of course they are!” Nate exclaimed and teased her with one.
“Give it here!” she teased back.
“No no, you’re going to have to work for it!”
She sat up and straddled her legs around him. She opened her
mouth and kissed him, letting her tongue show him what she wanted to
do with the strawberry. “Now can I have it?” she asked sweetly after
the kiss.
He grinned. “Nope, I don’t think so.”
She smiled, took the strawberry, and put it in HIS mouth. “I’ll
come and get it then,” she replied and snuck back into his mouth.
He groaned, loving her on top of him, and in his mouth, and let
her search for her treasure.
Their tongues tangoed for a little bit, until she decided she really,
really wanted that strawberry and dug into it.
She got it out and had it still dangling out of her mouth. “Ha ha, I
got it!” she teased him and ate it.
He put his hands on her hips. “Yeah, but I got you on top of me,
that’s all I wanted!”
She giggled, turned around and sat in his lap. She wiped her
forehead, which had a slight gleam to it. “I’m really hot,” she remarked.
“You sure are,” he replied and rubbed his hands over her middle.
She rolled his eyes. “No, you dork, I mean I’m all sweaty! You
wore me out!”
He laughed. “Good, that means I did my job!”
“Not necessarily,” she teased him and turned around to face him.
“I think I’m going to take a shower and get this make up off of my
face.” she smirked and kissed his nose before getting out of bed. “You
wanna join me?”
He grinned broadly. “Don’t have to ask me twice!” he exclaimed
and crawled out of bed with her. “Let’s get busy, baby!”
She rolled his eyes. “You are so dorky sometimes,” she
commented.

“Time for you to move on,” she encouraged him.
He grinned and relocated the bar farther down her body. He got
to her groin and polished the soap all around.
CD groaned out in gratification and put her hands on his curved
lower stomach to settle herself.
He couldn’t take it any longer and dropped the soap so his hands could
do the work themselves. He massaged the outside of her crotch, right
before he thrusted his fingers into her.
She moved around them and groaned, “Mooooooore,” was all she
could get out.
He stuck the three in deeper, right before he removed them and
prepared to replace them with something else.
“Naaaaaate,” she muttered as he picked her back up and stuck
her body against the shower wall.
He put himself into her and dropped her back down a little to get
himself in comfortably.
She groaned and arched, hoping he could get in farther. “Take
me, Nate,” she told him. “Take me like there’s no tomorrow.”
He banged her until they couldn’t go anymore, and he finally had
to put her back down because his arms were starting to get heavy.
Huffing and puffing, CD tried to get out, “Tired.....go.....bathtub,”
she stuttered, turned off the shower water and led him to the tub.

He groaned as she took him full force into her mouth and did things he’d never imagined. Her tongue was worn out when she was done, but it didn’t stop her from putting him back into her after she was done down below.
“Yeah, that’s the way I like it,” he muttered and pulled her close to him.
She grinned and kissed all over his chest, accidentally leaving a line of bites down his happy trail.
“Oh baby, you’re too good to me,” he groaned out and rocked with her a little more before they were both done and their bodies crashed.
CD lied in his arms in the steamy bubble bath after they were done, and they sat their silently, enjoying the company of each other.
Nate kissed her neck every once in awhile, and she interlaced fingers with him.
“This night was so perfect, Nate,” CD said after the a long pause.
He grinned. “I’m so glad you liked,” he replied and held her even closer.
She nodded. “I loved it, trust me,” she reassured him as she yawned.
“Tired?” he asked.
She grinned. “A little, yeah. I didn’t get much sleep last night,” she smiled and turned to face him. “I was waiting on a visitor.”
He smirked. “Brian’s back in your life?” he teased her.
She rolled her eyes. “Of course he is, Nate,” she joked. “I wasn’t going to tell you until I’d gotten all of these gifts.”
He pouted. “Well, you got what you wanted, and now you can go on with your life.”
She kissed him, and he fired right back. Pulling away, CD
commented, “Nate, you are my life; I’m not going anywhere without you.”
He smiled and unplugged the water. “Good,” he simply stated and
stood up. “To the bed then?”
She giggled and nodded, grabbing a towel for each of them. “Sounds great.”
He dried her off and looped the towel around her while he knotted his as well. They went back to the main part of the suite, Nate carrying CD of course.
He laid her gently on the bed and ran around the other side to join her.
She immediately snuggled next to him and yawned. “Thank you so much, partner,” she grinned broadly and told him.
He smiled. “Anytime, partner,” he smirked. “And when I say anytime, I mean it. Anytime, anyplace, anywhere, anyhow........”
She smacked his arm. “You oversexed maniac, settle down and get some sleep.”
He grinned and saluted her. “Yes, ma’am!” he exclaimed.
She shook her head before burying it in his chest for the night.

The next day back at the Division, CD and Nate stumbled in right as
their shift was supposed to start.

Raina was the first to greet them. “You two look like hell; rough night
on a steak out or something?”
CD nodded. “Yeah, we were at it most of the night,” she agreed.

“Did you catch him then?”

CD grinned. “Yeah, I caught him a few times,” she replied and saw
Kate flag her into her office. “Um, excuse me Raina, duty calls.”

Raina let her go, although slightly confused.

“Shut the door behind you, Inspector,” Kate announced, and CD had a
seat.

“What is it, Cap?”

Kate grinned. “So why did my best two inspectors BOTH need the day
off yesterday?” she teased her.

CD shrugged. “I don’t know, I guess we were a little burnt out and
needed a day off to recollect ourselves.”
Kate smiled. “Oh, so Nate didn’t surprise you with anything?” she
teased her.

CD blushed. “What are you talking about, Cap?”

Kate laughed. “Did you like your dress?”

“How did you know about that?”

“Someone came and visited me here the night he bought it,” Kate
explained. “It was like 11 at night, and Nate came barreling through
the door, yelling, ‘Will CD like this, or will she hate me for it?’”

CD smiled. “And what did you say?”

Kate laughed. “Actually my first reaction was, ‘Whoa, looks like you’re
gettin lucky the night she gets that, huh?’, but then I regained my
composure and told him to go with it.”
CD nodded. “He did a good job, didn’t he?” she smiled bashfully.
Kate agreed. “Sure did,” she paused. “So how long has that been going
on, Inspector?” she teased her.

“Not too long.......Will it affect us here at work?” she asked nervously.

“I don’t know, will it?” Kate retorted.

thing’s first-- I need paperwork from both you. Get that done ASAP, and
then both of you report back to me, preferably before lunch.”

CD stood up. “Sounds good, thanks Cap,” she said as she opened the
door. “Thanks for everything.”

Kate grinned. “My door’s always open for you, CD”

“What did she want?” Nate asked CD when she got back to her seat.

CD grinned. “Wanted to see if I looked like a slut in my dress or not,” she teased him.

Nate blushed. “She thought it was sleazy?” he asked nervously.

“No, honey, I’m just teasing you.”

“Oh,” Nate replied. “So was she mad about you and me?”

CD shook her head. “Nope, not at all. We have to finish all of our
paperwork, and then she’s going to give us a new case.”

Nate nodded. “Sounds good,” he concurred and got out their files,
splitting them down the middle and started working.

At 11:30, the files were done, and CD and Nate reported back to Kate’s
office.

“Kate, why is it so freaking hot in here?” Nate asked as he wiped his forehead for the millionth time that morning.

Kate shook her head. “The heat’s to the extreme out there, and we’ve been asked to not use our ACs during the afternoon hours. The whole city has been advised of it.”

“It’s like a hundred degrees in here though,” CD complained.

Kate nodded. “I understand that, and I’m sorry, but you’re going to have to go out in it today.”

“Fine, what’s our case?” Nate grumbled.

“Well, it’s not the greatest case or the one with the biggest
spotlight......” Kate started.

“What is it, Cap?”

“I need you to check out this address,” she replied and handed them a
piece of paper. “There’s been reports of kids hitting out the windows of
the office of a storage place with baseball bats. Go see what you can
find.”

“THAT’S it?!” Nate exclaimed. “Can’t you give that to Raina or Mag? The two of us can handle anything tougher than that!”

“Then handle this case, and THEN we’ll talk about your next cases,” she replied and held her hand up when Nate tried to protest. “Dismissed.”


Nate and CD left the Division with Nate complaining, and got to the car.

CD smiled. “It’s not that bad, Nate, calm down.”

He mumbled. “I don’t want to be out here in this heat, looking at a few
broken windows.”

She grinned and kissed his wet cheek. “Do you know how gorgeous you
are when you’re pissed and sweaty?”

He smiled. “Not nearly as gorgeous as you are,” he replied and kissed
her lips briefly. “Let’s get this over with; I can’t wait to get home, get
these clothes off, and hop into the shower,” he muttered.

CD giggled. “I can’t wait either,” she purred and let him drive.

“Oh, uh, I didn’t mean it that way, CD. I meant....”

She grinned. “I know what you meant; I was talking about what I
meant,” she explained as they pulled into the parking lot of an
abandoned storage place.

CD shook her head and continued walking. She started to make the corner when someone grabbed her middle and held her close to his body. She felt something surprisingly cold up against her temple.

“Nate, look out!” she exclaimed.

Nate looked up and saw his best friend with a gun to her head. “Whoa, hey man, you don’t know what you’re doing, let her go!” he exclaimed as he drew his gun.

“DROP YOUR WEAPON, OR SHE GETS IT!” the man yelled.

Nate stood his ground. “Look buddy, I don’t know why you’re doing this, but you’re making a terrible mistake. The woman you got with ya is a cop.”

“Bull ****,” he commented but saw her gun in her holster. He had her arms tightly, so she couldn’t reach for it, so he pulled it out and put it on his belt.

“What are you going to do with her?” Nate asked. “She’s an Inspector, and you take her, you’ll have the entire SFPD on your ass!”

“We’ll see about that,” the man muttered hatefully and walked
backwards, keeping CD as a target if Nate decided to shoot.

Nate stared hardly at him, waiting for any opportune time to take this guy out. He watched him back all the way to the first storage building. The guy shot off the padlock and backed him and CD into it, shutting the door behind them.

“Dammit,” Nate muttered and ran to the car. He started speaking over his radio. “Central, this is car 11, I have a 10-13 at the storage center on 1210 East Collins Street. I’m on the scene in civilian clothes, and there is a member of the service being held as hostage. I REPEAT, there is a member of the service being held as hostage,” he barked into the radio before getting a 10-4.

The man searched CD for anymore weapons and found her handcuffs. He cuffed her hands behind her back and threw her on the floor. The tin roof was absorbing all of the outside heat and made it feel so much worse in there.

“How does it feel to be on that side of the cuffs, bitch?” he muttered and looked out the window to see what was going on.

CD didn’t say a word but just stared at him.

“What are you looking at?!” he exclaimed.

“I was just wondering why you’re doing this,” she explained.

“You’re my ticket out of here,” he said. “I’m gettin out of this place.”

“Not with the whole squad going to be here any minute,” CD nicely pointed out to him.

“Just shut up over there!” he exclaimed. “I gotta think,” he said and had a seat on the other side of the little box of a place.

Nate pulled out his cellphone and called Kate to brief her of the
situation.

She listened and promised to be there as soon as she could.
“Mag, Raina, Jin!” she exclaimed as soon as she got off the phone. “I
want you at 1210 E. Collins Street immediately! Hostage situation,
everyone’s on it. We want this ass behind bars!”

Jinny nodded. “But why ALL of us?”

Kate looked at her. “Because it’s one of our own.”

“Who?” Raina asked nervously.

“Inspector DeLorenzo,” Kate replied and motioned everyone to their
cars. “Raina, I’m riding with you.”

Raina nodded, and Jin and Mag ran to their car as fast as they could.

The first patrol cars made their way to the scene. They saw Nate, who
was holding up his ID.

“Inspector Nate Basso,” he replied and showed them the storage
building. “That’s where they’re at. Get set up in case they come out.”

“In THAT?” one of the officers asked. “How long has she been in
there?”

“They can’t take it in there very long with the heat and that tin roof.”
his partner said.

Nate nodded. “I understand that; that’s why, when you get a shot, nail
the bastard.”

“But we can’t see in,” the rookie replied.

“If they come busting out!” Nate exclaimed. “So get out there and set
up!” he barked.

The officers nodded and sat up around the site.

Kate had ended up driving her and Raina, and they were one of the
next ones to arrive. Kate took her side by Nate. “Anything new?”

He shook his head. “He hasn’t made any demands yet or anything,” he
mumbled.

“Have you sent in his description?” she asked him.

“Yeah, Cap, in my spare time I did just that,” he muttered.

Kate sighed. “Nate, come on, let’s not do that,” she replied. “Tell us
the description,” she said as Magda and Jinny joined them. “Jin and
Mag can work on getting a profile for this guy.”

Nate sighed. “Okay, about 6’1, 230-240, late 20’s. He was wearing
ripped jeans and yellow Tshirt; black, curly hair and stubble. That’s all
I remember.”

“What weapon did he have?” Jinny asked him.

“A 38 special,” he remembered. “And it was pointed right at my
partner’s head,” he whispered, mainly to himself.

Back in the storage area, CD was bent over, and the sweat was
pouring off her body. Her eyes were black from her mascara and her
hair was matted against her face. She had only been in there for about
a half hour, but with the heat and the roof, it felt like it was 120
degrees.

CD looked at him. “So what’s your name?” she asked the guy.

He rolled his eyes. “Like I’d tell a cop that,” he muttered.

“Hey, we’re gonna be here for awhile, I gotta call you something,” CD
pointed out.

The guy sighed. “My name’s Larry, okay? What’s yours?”

“Candace,” CD replied. “But everyone calls me CD,” she stated as she
flinched her shoulder up, trying to get the sweat to stop dripping. Her
usual pants were replaced that day with a long skirt, so her legs were
spread apart, not touching each other, and her shirt was clinging to
her.

Larry moved closer to her; so close she could feel his breath on her
face. He looked at her as he skimmed over her exposed neck with his
gun, moving it down on her shirt. He unbuttoned the first three buttons
on her shirt and started rubbing that skin with the gun as well. “CD,
huh? I don’t like that; I think I’m gonna call you Candy while we’re in
here. How’s that?” he asked as he kissed her lips.

CD moved away but didn’t want to set him off. “Please don’t. I’m
already taken,” she grinned, trying to be nice.

“There’s no ring, it must not be that big of a deal then.”

CD shook her head. “It’s a huge deal; we’ve just started dating,” she
explained.

He dropped the gun and felt her through her shirt. “Well, he’s not here
right now, is he? He’s probably in a big corporate office right now,
enjoying the air conditioning, isn’t he?”

CD shook her head sadly. “Actually, he’s outside trying to save my life,”
she whispered. “The guy I was with before.”

Nate and Kate worked together, trying to devise a plan. Captain
McCafferty was in charge, but Nate didn’t think twice about telling her
how he thought everything should go.

They were set up in the office of the warehouses, and Nate and Kate
were standing over a desk, looking at a map at what it possibly looked
like in there.

“HEY!” a voice from outside yelled.

Nate looked out the window and saw his partner’s limp body hanging
out of the storage room. “He’s talking!” Nate shouted as him and Kate
ran to the door.

Kate came across the megaphone. “Sir, my name is Kate, and I’ve just
gotten here. What seems to be the problem? Why do you have my
Inspector?”

Larry shouted back, shielded from any guns because of CD’s body,
“She’s my ticket out of here!” he shouted back. “As long as I have her,
you’ll give me anything I want! Or she gets it!! Understand me?!” he
shouted.

“Give him whatever he wants,” Nate commanded into Kate’s ear.

“Nate, let me do my job,” she replied back. “Okay, Sir, what kind of
demands are you planning on making? And what’s your name?”

“I’m not telling anyone my name!” he screamed.

Kate nodded. “Fine, I’ll call you......Bob? Okay, Bob, what can I do for
you?”

Larry hated this idea of a new name. He pondered and thought about
what he wanted. “That shack that you’re in; it has air conditioning,
right?” he yelled.

“You want this office, huh?” she asked him.

“Yeah!” he shouted. “We’re coming out right now!”

Kate nodded. “I understand that you’re hot in there, but this procedure
takes time. I’ll get back to you in 15 minutes, Bob, so we’ll have
enough time to clear out.”

“Stop calling me Bob! It’s Larry, ya stupid bitch!” he shouted and went
back into the storage room.

Kate punched in Jinny’s number and told her that his first name was
Larry. Jinny responded and told her that he’d just robbed a
convenience store right before he’d kidnapped CD, so she had
statements from there and with his name now, could have his rap
sheet pulled up in about five minutes.

Back in the tin room, Larry threw CD back on the ground and joined
her. “So where were we?” he asked her seductively and kissed her
again.

She moved away from him. “I think you were getting ready to tell me
about yourself. You got a wife? Girlfriend?” she asked him.

He rolled his eyes and got off of her. “I don’t want to have this small
talk **** with you,” he replied and took his belt off, lacing it around her
sweaty neck. Her eyes started to droop. “You’re not going to pass out
on me, are ya Candy?”

CD shook her head. “Nope, I’m fine. It’s just the heat here.”

“Well, if your friends would get a move on it, maybe you could be in the
nice AC.”

She nodded, knowing that her chance of making it out alive was
coming up, when they relocated to the office.

Nate paced around the office. “I don’t understand your reasoning,
Kate!” he shouted.

“Excuse me Inspector?” she retorted.

“Sorry, Cap,” he muttered. “But when he finds out that you lied to him about the air conditioning.....”

“I never said it was working, did I?” she asked him and grinned. “We’ve got sharpshooters lined up, ready for the shot,” she explained to him as her phone rang. “We’re gonna get this bastard, Nate,” she said and answered her phone.

Nate listened intently and waited for what she had to say.

Kate finished talking and looked at Nate.

“Well, who was that? What did they say?”

Kate sighed. “Jinny and Mag found out who the guy is. Larry Jackson from Jersey; he’s got a rap sheet a mile long.”

“What’s it consist of?” Nate asked her.

Kate shook her head. “You don’t want to know.”

“Tell me,” Nate insisted. “Please Cap.”

Kate sighed. “He’s been charged with robbery, possession, kidnapping, rape and.......” she paused. “murder, charges dropped,” Kate told him.

“So that’s the bastard we’ve been dealing with,” Nate shook his head.

“Nate, come on, we’ve got to believe that we’re going to get him,” Kate explained. “We just have to deal with him easily; he’s obviously a mental case and needs to be handled gently.”

“I’ll handle him gently,” Nate muttered.

Kate shook her head. “Help me move our stuff out of here, so IF they make it in here, we’ll have a lay out of this place as well.”

Nate nodded and helped her get everything out.

All of the visible cops were moved far away from both buildings. Kate was in front of all of them, and Nate was right behind her, and so were Raina, Mag, and Jinny, who’d just gotten back from the Division.

Kate yelled over the megaphone. “Alright Larry, you’re safe to enter the office now.”

The door opened and CD appeared.

“She’s got his belt around her neck,” Magda muttered.

Kate finished telling him directions. “The only route you have is
straight to the office. Choosing a different one could result in harm, understand?”

Larry didn’t say a word, but him and CD walked out of the storage room with his back against the building and CD in front of him.

Kate spoke into her wire that went out to all the sharpshooter’s wires. “You have the go ahead to shoot,” she replied, but watched nervously as Larry twisted around and around quickly.

Larry instantly moved from their storage building and backed up
against another one. He was almost to the office.

CD, not being able to see her destination, tripped on a rock and
stumbled down but still in his arms.

Larry got sidetracked, and for an instant, he was available.

One of the sharpshooters attempted a shot, but Larry was too quick with getting CD back up. The bullet had missed him but got something right beside him.

Larry twirled around again and again with CD tightly in his arms and
made his way swiftly into the office.

“Dammit,” Kate muttered. “Now for plan B.”

“I knew that wouldn’t work,” Nate complained. “She’s not going to
make it now.”

“Nate, shut up,” Jinny commanded. “She’s a lot better off in that office,
even if there isn’t any air! We’ll just get rid of him in there!” she replied
and whispered into his ear. “Trust your captain, Nate, she’s gonna get
our friend out.”

Nate teared up. “She better,” was all he could get out and walked away
to be alone for awhile.

Jinny turned to Kate. “So now what’s the plan?”

“I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve, Jin, and I’ll use every single of
them if I have to get that girl out of there.”

“Anything I can do?” Jinny asked.

Kate shook her head. “Not yet.”

Larry looked around the office. “They shut the air off!” he exclaimed
and messed with the knobs. “Why the hell would they do that?! You
knew they would do this!” he shouted at CD and smacked her, causing
her to fall to the ground.

CD grimaced and leaned back. “This is better, Larry! We never would’ve
survived in that storage area, you know that!”

He got her on her feet and went to the door with her in front of him.

“Kate! Where the hell is that Kate woman?” he shouted.

Kate heard him, as did Nate, who came back to join her side.

“I’m here, Larry, how you doing in there?”

“You know DAMN well how we’re doing!” he shouted. “You turned off
the air conditioning!”

Kate shook her head. “No I didn’t, Larry, I never said it was working.”

“You bitch!” he shouted. “I want the air on right now!” he stopped.
“Plus I want a cop car, so we can get the hell out of here.”

Kate nodded. “Okay, you want a car and the air on? Fine, I’ll send an
officer down there......”

“NO COPS!” Larry shouted.

“Then your conditions stay the same because I can’t send a civilian
down there!” Kate yelled back at him.

“Easy, Cap, remember the rap sheet,” Raina told her.

Kate nodded.

“Fine!” Larry announced. “Send a woman.” he peered over at Kate.
“That woman right beside you! She’ll do.”

Kate looked over at Jinny and back at Larry. “Okay, but you’ll have to
give me a little time.”

“STOP ****ING WITH ME, KATE!” he shouted.

“Give me another 5 minutes, Larry, what if she doesn’t want to go out
there? I’ll have to promise her she’ll be safe!”

“Well you do that!” Larry shouted and drug CD back into the office,
throwing her in the corner closest to the door.

He walked to the other part of the room, where he’d thrown her purse,
and picked it up. He nosily picked it up and walked back beside her
and had a seat.

He dug around, pulling out her wallet and looking through her pictures.
The front one was of her and Nate; him sitting on her desk and she was
in her chair, all smiles for the camera. The next ones were of her and
the gang, hanging out at Anchorside.

“How cute,” he muttered and threw it in a corner. He went through
more compartments, grabbing a stick of gum for himself, and then he
threw out some tampons and got his hands on a package of condoms.
“Just in case?” he teased her.

CD tried to laugh, but the belt hurt her vocal cords too much. “Yeah, a
girl can never be too prepared,” she smiled.

He shook his head and continued till he got to two candy bars that
weren’t entirely melted yet. “Yum, I’m starving,” he muttered and
opened one up.

She grinned. “Those are Nate’s,” she commented sadly.

“Nate’s? Nate who?” he asked her as he chomped into one.

“My partner,” CD explained to him. “I always kept some in my purse in
case he ever got mad at me, and then I could just bribe him with his
favorites,” she replied and teared up. “I don’t guess I could have a
bite?”

Larry shook his head. “You guessed right,” he muttered at the sap
story and finished the first bar and moved on to the second.

“So can I bring my gun and take this bastard out?” Jinny asked Kate.

Kate shook her head and threw a bulletproof vest to her. “No, and you’re sure you want to do this?”

“Of course!” Jinny exclaimed. “That’s my best friend in there!”
“Excuse me?” Magda retorted.

Jinny frowned. “Uh, my second best friend?” she lied and turned back to Kate. “Anyway, I’m going in; how am I going to kill him? I’m not afraid to rid him of his life, Kate, I’ll do it.”

Kate nodded. “I know you can, but I have a better plan.” she waited until she had the vest on and explained the plan. “So you understand perfectly?”

“Yep, he’s going down, you can count on me,” Jinny replied, mainly to Nate.

Nate hugged her. “Thanks Jin, and be careful.”

Jinny nodded. “I’ll bring your CD back to ya,” she promised him.

Nate nodded. “I hope so.”

Kate looked at her watch. “ ‘Kay, let’s get this show on the road,” she said and spoke into the megaphone. “Larry, I have Inspector Exstead coming your way. I want you to glance out the window to tell me you see her. Get a good look at her, Larry.”

Larry could hear her through the broken glassed windows. He glanced out one of them and saw the cop with her hands in the air, walking that way. “Yeah, I see her!” he shouted and back away, careful of the snipers.

Jinny walked up close to the side of the office but continued to the
back of it.

“Where’s she going?!” he shouted to Kate. “Where’s that bitch going?!”

Kate replied. “Inspector Exstead has to go around to where the
switches are to turn the air on; don’t worry Larry, she’ll have it ready in no time,” she explained to him.

Nate paced back and forth. “This isn’t going to work, this isn’t going to work,” he kept muttering to herself.

“Nate, shut up!” Kate hissed.

Larry looked at CD, who shrugged. He yelled out the window. “I don’t like this Kate! What if she’s got a weapon?!”

Kate shook her head. “Larry, you just saw her, you know she doesn’t have anything!”

Larry shook his head. “I don’t like this,” he muttered again.

Kate called out from her location, “Larry, we got your car ready for ya!”

Larry was busy looking at Kate through the no glass window to see Jinny sneeking by one of the small back windows. She stopped long enough to catch CD’s eye and winked at her a sign of encouragement.

CD nodded at her nervously, knowing something was about to go down.

Larry screamed out the window. “I don’t care about the car, I want to know where that cop is at!” he shouted.

CD grimaced, and Jinny pulled her body back away from the window, so he couldn’t see her.

“How are they going to get a clean shot?” Nate hissed into Kate’s ear.

“There’s no glass in the windows, you idiot,” Magda muttered.

“Magda, stop being so ****ing annoying!” Raina shouted.

Nate looked at her wide-eyed, never guessing to hear THAT word come out of her mouth. “Couldn’t agree with ya more, Raina,” he commented, but now understood how the plan would work.

Kate said, “Larry, she’s around back, I’ve already told you that. I want you to glance out the window and tell me if this car is good enough for you. We’re rolling it out right now!” she exclaimed and had a cop drive it out in front of the office. “Take a look at it!”

Larry went to the window. “Yeah I see it, okay?! Now I want that policewoman to come back!” he shouted.

Kate egged him on. “Is the car what you’re looking for?” she asked him.

He continued to stand by the window.

Jinny peeked back in the window, gave the signal, and hit the ground.

A gunshot echoed off the storage buildings. Two men dressed in full protectant suits opened the door to the office and barged in, firing off two more shots.

Nate looked on, knowing CD had been hit with the first one. He kicked the cop car he had been leaning on for the moment and made a dent in the driver’s side of it. He walked away from the crowd and began to cry.

CD looked up and saw Larry on the ground, dead. The two police
officers were lurking over him, checking for a pulse. CD turned her
head away and buried herself into the corner, crying silently.

Jinny sat up and looked around. She had to get inside that office, she
decided and ran to the front door. The first thing she saw was the dead
perp and blood oozing everywhere. She looked around for CD and saw
her crouched in the corner. “CD,” she whispered.

CD looked up and saw Jinny. She turned back around and put her face
in the wall again. “No, Jin, no, don’t look at me,” she replied, crying
even more.

Jinny went to her and put her arms around her. “Shhh, CD, it’s okay
now,” she replied and started unbuckling the belt around CD’s throat.

CD shook her head and bawled. “No, it’s not, get me outta these!” she
exclaimed and shook her wrists.

Jinny nodded and got out a key for the cuffs. As soon as they were off,
Jinny wrapped CD into her arms and held her tightly.

CD shuddered and grabbed onto her even stronger. “Will you take me
home?” she asked, tears and more mascara running down her cheeks.
“I don’t want to work anymore today.”

Jinny grinned. “Of course I will,” she replied. “I don’t think Nate would
let you work anyway.”

CD smiled. “How is he? Is he alright? He didn’t worry too much, did
he?” she asked Jinny worriedly.

Jin shook her head. “Nah, he’s grace under pressure,” she grinned and
helped her up.

“Liar,” CD replied, and they both laughed.

Jinny steadied CD from falling when they got back out into the
sunshine.

“It’s so bright,” CD commented and blinked her eyes several times.

Jinny nodded and stopped her. “Wait, you don’t need to go over there
to all those cops with your boobs hangin out!” she teased her and
buttoned up the front of her shirt.

CD smiled. “Thanks, Jin, that was a close one!” she giggled.

“Yeah, those guys over there would be going wild!” Jinny agreed and
helped her walk over to where Kate, Mag, and Raina were standing
with everyone else.

Kate drew in a sigh of relief when she saw her. “Oh, thank you God,”
she murmured under her breath.

CD let go of Jinny’s hands long enough to bury herself in Kate’s arms.
Kate held onto her tightly, never wanting to let her ‘daughter’ out of
her sight again. “Welcome back, sweetie,” Kate commented and kissed
her cheek.

CD cried as Kate rocked her, crying herself. “Thank you for getting me
out of there alive, Kate,” CD whispered.

“I wouldn’t have had it any other way, Candace,” Kate promised her.

CD burrowed herself in closer. “Thank you so much,” she replied again,
breaking away to give her a peck on the cheek. She looked around,
hugging Magda and Raina. “Where’s Nate at? Did he leave?” he asked
worriedly.

Magda pointed over to a hunched over figure by a cop car. “He went
over there.”

“And you didn’t make sure he was alright?!” CD exclaimed.

Magda shook her head. “Uh, no, last time I checked he’s not my
responsibility,” she muttered.

“Magda, shut up,” Jinny commented.

“Excuse me?!”

Raina shushed them both. “CD, he wanted to be alone; he thinks you’re
gone, so maybe you should be the one that talks to him first.”

CD nodded and walked quietly over to him.

Nate was heaving and crying silently with his hands over his face.

CD bent down slowly to get to his eye level. She placed her hand softly
against his cheek. “Hey, crybaby, why are you on the ground when
some hot momma wants you to put your arms around her and never let
go?”

CD bent down slowly to get to his eye level. She placed her hand softly against his cheek. “Hey, crybaby, why are you on the ground when some hot momma wants you to put your arms around her and never let go?”

Nate looked up, astonished to see his partner still alive and walking for that matter. “C..C....C...” he stuttered and stood up.

She laughed. “Yes, that’s the first letter in my name,” she teased him and opened up her arms, tears flowing steadily down her face again.

“My baby!” he shouted and picked her up and swung her around. He then stopped and stared at her, looking intently into her eyes. “Oh my gosh, it really is you,” he stated.

She nodded. “And it really is you, Nate,” she smiled.

He kissed her cheek and pulled her into his big arms again. “Oh, baby, I thought you were gone. I thought I was never going to see you again,” he admitted and started to tear up again.

CD nodded. “I know, I thought the same thing,” she concurred and pulled away, looking into his eyes deeply. “I just remembered that I had an unpaid tab that I had to reimburse someone for, and that was the reason that kept me from passing out,” she avowed to him.

He grinned. “Really? You thought of me?”

She nodded. “Who else did you think I would think of? Besides Brad Pitt of course,” she teased him.

He laughed and kissed her lips. “I love you so much, Candace.”

She smiled. “I love you more.”

He shook his head. “Impossible, baby,” he said and kissed her once more.

She grinned and put her arms around his neck. “Honey, don’t get mad at me anytime soon, okay?”

He frowned. “CD, I don’t think I can get mad at you for the rest of my life, let alone anytime soon. Why?” he asked her curiously.

“He ate your chocolate,” she said sadly. “The candy bars that I keep in my purse to bribe you not to stay mad at me,” she told him, and fresh tears sprung to her eyes.

“Aw, CD!” he exclaimed and smiled. “YOU’RE the only Candy I’ll be
needing for the rest of my life,” he said and took her hand.

“So you’re saying that you’re never going to eat candy bars again?” she asked him with a raised eyebrow.

“Oh, gosh, of course not!” he exclaimed. “We’ll probably have to stop at the gas station on the way home to stock up on more! I just didn’t want you to think that that was the reason I wanted you out safely!”

She laughed. “I didn’t think that,” she stated and placed herself in his arms again. “Can we go home now?”

He nodded. “Yes, definitely,” he replied. “I’ll go get the car,” he replied and stopped. “Wait, I can’t.”

“Why not?” she asked him.

“I can’t go anywhere without you,” he explained.

yes, THANK U, my breakfast, lunch, and supper was beautiful!!! The key is: don't eat anything b4 you and pig out!! those cheddar bay biscuits were awesome, as well as my fish and shrimp platter, and those cheesesticks weren't too bad either......

She grinned and watched him walk away.

After he left she went back to Jinny and Kate, who were getting their
stories straight for the impatiently waiting press.

CD tapped Jinny’s shoulder.

“Hey, CD! I didn’t think you’d still be here!” she exclaimed.

CD nodded. “I had to say goodbye to my heroes one more time,” she
grinned and hugged Jinny again. “Thank you, Jin, so much. You risked
so much doing what you did.”

Jinny hugged her back. “I’d do it again for ya in a heartbeat, CD,” Jinny
admitted.

“I know,” CD stated and walked to Kate, smiling. “And I can’t even
begin to think of what to say to you!” she exclaimed.

Kate grinned and opened her arms. “So get in these while you decide,”
she replied.

CD smiled and collapsed into her arms. “Thank you so much, Cap,” she
said. “For everything-- for today, for helping Nate, for partnering me
with Nate, for letting me come to you when I had problems with Paul,
for helping me get through Dick’s death, for.......”

Kate laughed. “CD, stop! You’re making me get a swelled head!”

CD nodded. “You deserve it, Cap, you meant everything to me already,
and now TODAY?! I owe everything I have to you!”

Kate shook her head. “The only thing you owe to me now is to watch
over that man,” she replied and pointed to Nate, who was waving and
grinning at CD as soon as she looked over at him. “Take care of him,
and treat him right, CD. He deserves you.”

CD nodded. “I will, Cap, you can count on it,” she replied and kissed
her cheek one last time. “He’s taking me home now,” CD announced.

Kate nodded. “Good idea,” she replied, “and don’t come in tomorrow,
you two both need a day of recovery.”

“I’m not even going to try to argue!” CD grinned and glanced towards
the car and then back. “So Jin, Kate, you want to come over for dinner
tomorrow night?” CD asked them; Magda and Raina had already left,
starting on the paperwork.

“Of course!” Both of them agreed.

CD grinned. “Great, so about 6:30?”

They agreed, and CD left them to be with her partner.
