"I had no clue" Nate replied
"no, serously, what did you guess?" she asked again.
"CD, I didn't" Nate answered
"c'mon, really, what was one of the guesses going around in your brain?" CD coaxed
"CD, in case you haven't noticed, guys don't think. They just veg in front of the bube tube." Nate said
"oh, okay, sheesh." CD narrowed her eyes and went back to work.
Nate smiled, put his feet up on his desk, and popped a piece of Ghiradeli into his mouth.

Jinny shut the door again and sat down.
"what do you need, Jinny?' kate asked, as she was going over some paper work.
"I needed to ask you a question."
"okay, shoot." Kate said.
"no, I need you to pay attention" Jinny said
Kate put down her papers, took off her glasses, and clasped her hands together on the desk. "you have my full attention." she said.
"well. okay. I'll just say it. I need a transfer to Tuscon." Jinny blurted out.
"Tuscon?" Kate raised her eyebrows
"yes." Jinny replied.
"why you moving there? you and Jack get back together or something?"
"yes." Jinny said.
"okay, Jinny, I'll see what I can do." Kate got up and walked Jinny to the door. When Kate opened, Stacy was standing there with her nose taped up and her cheerleader uniform on.
"hey, my nose was just broken. no big deal. Any way,

Kate rolled her eyes, walked back into her office and slammed the door onto Stacy's face.

A few more months had passed, and Nate and CD had already made one trip to Sweden to adopt the little girl.
"so, tell us all about it!" Magda said one morning at work
"well, there isn't really much to tell" Nate said
"oh, come on. there is so much to tell!" CD punched him in the arm.
"hey, wanna play that game?" Nate took a magazine he had on his desk, rolled it up and whacked CD on the head softly
"hey, you jerk!" CD said
"oh, you guys, you might need some marriage counseling, tsk tsk" Jinny laughed.
"oh, I think we'll be okay for the time being" Nate laughed.
"yeah. Well, anyway, to answer your question, her name is Gretchen, and she is four years old, with blond hair and blue eyes." CD said
"oh, just like you!" Magda said
"yeah! i know, it's perfect. She is an only child, her parents died in a a fire when she was 2."
"aww, that is so sad" Magda said
"I know. it made me tear up a bit." CD said
"here, I have some pictures in my wallet" Nate got out his wallet and showed some pictures of them all.
"I think you'll make a great father. You already have the whole picture thing down" CD winked and kissed him on the forehead

Jinny came home that night and saw Jack and Josh sitting in the living room eating pizza.
"hey, did you save me any?" Jinny asked
"well, duh. It's in the fridge." Jack said, not looking up from Pinky and the Brain.
"you guys watching that moronic show?" Jinny asked, putting her purse in the closet.
"well, it's not moronic, Aunt Jinny, the brain has some very informative things to say." Josh said, smiling.
"where'd you learn that word?" Jinny asked
"grandpa. he told me some words to put into my conversations so that i can 'impress the hell out of my classmates' as he would put it." Josh said, smiling.
"ah. well, you can learn good words, just don't use that language again." Jinny said, pointing a worning finger at Josh.
"oh, I'm so scared." Josh said, pretending to faint.
Jinny rolled her eyes. "prima donna" she said, as she poured out a diet pepsi.
"aren't prima donna's only girls?" Jack asked.
"I dunno. but I thought it's be cool to put into that conversation" Jinny said winking at them.

Wow, Deirdre, that was so great! It was so sweet with CD and Nate, and the whole Jinny scene was funny! Post more soon of this great fic!

CD got up from her chair and went to the bathroom. She looked her watch. hmm, the 27th. that's not good she thought. She went back into the Division and poked her head into the door.
"psst!psst!" CD said to Jinny. Jinny looked up from her work, and CD motioned for her to come over. Jinny looked around and got up.
"what?" Jinny asked when she got over to CD.
CD just grabbed Jinny's hand, and CD ran while Jinny waddled into the bathroom.
"what do you want? I was kinda working on something." Jinny said, folding her arms over her big stomach.
"I'm 15 days late." CD said.
"late for what??? oh my god! well, you know, I'm 8 months late. maybe it's something in the water." Jinny laughed.
"this isn't funny. I could be pregnant! I'm too young for menopause." CD huffed.
"well, we need to get a test. I'll go out and get one." Jinny said quietly.
"yeah, like the cashier will really believe you need the test." CD said looking at Jinny's stomach.
"who cares? We're porbably never gonna see him again." Jinny grabbed her purse and walked to the door.
"I'll be right back. stay put" Jinny said as she left.
could this be worse timing? CD thought.

"oh, I'm tired. and stressed. and my feet are swollen. what about you?"
"well, not that bad. But it will be over soon, then you have 18 more years of painful child rearing." Magda laughed
"oh, fun. Well, can you do me a favor?" Jinny asked
"sure, hun. what?" Madga asked
"Jack and I are going to Tuscon this weekend to look at houses. Can you watch Josh?"
"sure. I'll just pick him up from school Friday and keep him till you guys get home."
"thanks" Jinny said
"How are you guys getting there?" Magda asked.
"We're driving. They wouldn't let me get a plane ticket." Jinny said, sounding bummed.
"Well, good, I would hate for my god child to be born on a plane. I just hope he or she stays in there till you guys get home." Magda said
"Oh, me too, Mag. Me too"

Jinny walked into the drug store and went over to the home pregnancy test section. She picked up one, and walked up to the counter.
"hi" Jinny said and plopped the box on the counter.
The sales clerk looked at it. "you, know, I can save u some money. You're pregnant."
"very funny. This is for a friend." Jinny said, threw a bill at him, and walked out with the box. "keep the change!" she said
Jinny walked back into the office, and Stacey ran up to her.
"Give me a J! Give me an ...."
"Stacey, go back to candyland or wherever you came from" Jinny said and turned around and walked into the bathroom.
"why do I get the sense that no one likes me?" Stacey said.
"oh, I can answer that" Magda said
"yeah?" Stacey asked
"the reason you feel that way is because it's true. No one does like you."
"oh, um.., why?'' Stacey asked.
"oh, fukk off" Magda said and turned around to go back to work.

"here you go. hurry up. people are starting to get suspicious." Jinny said
"so? Just tell them my tampon got stuck and I need help getting it out." CD laughed.
"EWWWW!!! GROSS!!!" Jinny practically shrieked,
"well? It would make them stop asking."
"oh, shut up and get it over with" Jinny said, sounding a little cross.
"fine. sheesh." CD ran into the stall and did her business. She came out and put the kit on the counter.
"We have to wait three minutes."
Jinny and CD sat on the bench in silence. Some one walked into the bathroom once.
"GET THE HELL OUTTA HERE!!!" Jinny yelled "CAN'T YOU SEE WE'RE BUSY????"
The person looked around in horror and ran out.
"sheesh, you almost gave that poor old woman a heart attack." CD said
"well, we have hospitals in this town." Jinny smiled.
Finally the rimer rang.
"well, go look." Jinny said after a few seconds.
"I can't. You look." CD asked.
"ok, fine." jinny got up and waddled over to the sink.
"CD... you're pregnant!" Jinny shrieked.
"WHAT?!?!?!?!" CD jumped up and down in excitement.
"it's posotive. you're pregnant! congradulations." Jinny said.
CD smiled for a few minutes, then frowned.

"the adoption is almost final. But I can't finish it, I have the baby to worry about." CD said soberly
"I'm sure you'll figure something out." Jinny said kindly.

"you guys need to talk." Jinny said, smiling, then ran out.
"That was interesting." Nate said, putting his hands in his pockets, acting as if he's in ladies rooms everyday.
"yeah." CD said, with the look of shock starting to wear off her face.
"what do we need to talk about?" he asked
CD handed him the kit.
Nate grabbed it and looked at it.
"ah" he said
"yeah. i know" CD said
"this is great news CD!" Nate said, suddenly acting really excited.
"no it isn't. what about Gretchen?" CD said, standing up, a hint of annoyance in her voice.
"what about her?" he asked
"we can't adopt her with me pregnant." CD said, downright cross
"yes we can." Nate said "look, we can figure it out. don't worry about it. All things are possible"
"I guess. But it'll be hard having a preschooler and a baby come into our lives all at once. Plus I'm not that good with kids."
"well, I babysat a little when I was younger." Nate said, smiling
"oh, you did not." CD said, a smile actually breaking out on her face.
"I did too. I have a sister, remember?"
"yeah."
"plus, I liked to make a little money in highschool."
"most kids mow lawns*." CD said laughing
"hey, I was lazy." Nate said laughing, grabbed Cd, and planted one on the kisser.

CD picked up the phone, and dialed the number.
“Hi, I’m would like an appointment to see Dr. Lakers? No, I’ve never been in before, but I just took a pregnancy test, and it’s posotive, so I’d like to make sure, and that type of stuff. Yes, um Jinny Exstead. Uhhuh. Yeah. Oh, she’s doing fine. Right now she’s just typing on the computer and eating a bagel.”
Jinny looked up, scowled and threw a magazine at her.
“Yes, she even has her atitude. Ok, three o’clock tomorrow afternoon. Thanks!”
CD hung up the phone. "wow, Jinny, they're really friendly there." CD said with a sickly sweet voice.
"oh, shutup. and yeah, they're sweet. too sweet." Jinny sat there and scowled.
"Ok, now I really REALLY can't wait for her to have that baby" Nate whispered leaning close to CD.
"ok, I get what you mean. but you need to shut up before she hears you!"
"oh, who cares," Nate said.
"i do. and bye." Cd got up to leave, swinging her purse over her shoulder.
"where are you going?" Nate asked
"I'm going shopping. you don't expect me to go to a new doctors tomorrow in that pathetic excuse for a wardrobe I have, do you?"

"i know. i know. I promise I'll come and visit you once a month. and you can come and visit us once a month."

"um, Jinny. I know you and I were never really close, but I do really feel bad about you leaving."
"thanks, Nate. I appreciate it" she hugged him.
"well, I'm sorry I was crying on all of your shoulders, but I gotta go pack. I haven't touched anything." Jinny said, pulling away.
"don't worry about it. I'll come bye tonight and help you." Magda said softly.
"thanks, you guys. you're all the best." Jinny walked out the door with her head down, sniffling.

OK everybody, thanks for the replies---Deirdre asked me to post this for her. :)

CD walked out of The Gap with a new trouser and blouse outfit in hand, complete with belt. She smiled to herself. "Ah, clothes shopping. Now all I need are shoes." She strolled down the street toward the Sam and Libby store, and she stopped suddenly. "Oh my gosh!" she almost yelled. "Yay, a maternity store! Soon I can finally start shopping at these places. I thought that it would never come." People were staring at her, but she didn't care. A tear slid down her cheek as she walked on.

Later on that evening, CD walked into her apartment, and all the lights were off. "Hello? Nate, are you home?" she asked, putting down her packages, and kicking off her shoes.

"I'm in the living room," he called.

"OK, hunny, let me change---I'll be right there!" she replied, and went into their room. She changed into sleep pants and a tank. She took her packages and walked into the living room. "Sweetie, you would not believe what a deal I got...." She stopped dead in her tracks, for in front of her was a tiny table all set with a gourmet dinner and lit by candles.

"I thought you deserved this," Nate said, pulling out a chair for her.

"Oh, you're too good to me," she said, blushing, and sat down.

"Would you like some sparkling grape juice? It's fine for the baby," he said as he poured.

"Oh, Nate," CD gushed.

Jinny walked through her door that evening, her face red and puffy, and her eyes blood shot from crying. "Oh, Jinny," Jack said as soon as she walked in.

"What?" she asked.

"I'm.....I'm....so sorry," he murmured, taking her hands.

"Jack. It's OK. I'll get over it," she said, sitting down. "I need to rest for a few minutes."

"OK. I'll be on the computer. I've narrowed down a few houses," he said.

"OK, I'll be in there in a few." She forced a smile. Jinny closed her eyes, with hot tears streaming down her face. A few hours later her eyes shot open. "Oh my gosh! I slept so long!" she said.

Jack walked into the room, holding a slice of pizza. "It's OK, I took care of dinner. Don't worry about it," he said.

"Haha, very funny," Jinny said, clutching her back as she stood up.

"I'm serious," Jack answered, shoving more pizza in his face.

"Ouch, I didn't think carrying a baby would be so hard," Jinny said.

"Oh, I'm sorry, sweetie. Why don't you go sit down and eat," Jack said.

Jinny ate and cleaned up after dinner while Jack packed up the living room. "Hey, where's Josh?" Jinny called from the kitchen.

"What'd you say?" Jack asked.

Jinny walked into the living room. "I said, where's Josh?"

"Oh, Magda called and said she'd pick him up and bring him back again this evening when she comes over to help," Jack said while looking through a photo album. "Um, Jin?" he asked.

"What?" she asked, turning to look at him.

"You never explained to me about your mom," he said.

CD finished the delicious dinner Nate had made, or bought, she didn't know which but she decided she didn't want to find out, and wiped her lips with her napkin.
"oh, sweetie, this is so great! thank you so much!" she placed down her napkin, and placed her hands on her stomach.
"that's not all." Nate said, softly.
"there's more?" CD asked
"hell, yeah. you know me, I dont do something half ass. I do it all." he winked at her, at put his hand into his pocket to pull something out.
"well, it couldn't be a ring, I'm already wearing that." she laughed.
Nate smiled and retreaved what he was looking for.
"here you go, babe." he handed her a small envelope.
"what is this?" she asked, taking it carefully.
"look inside and see."
CD carefully opened the envelope, and looked inside.
"oh, Nate, you're so sweet!" she squealed, and gave him a big kiss, and sat back in her chair.
"I thought you'd like it. Just dont spend a fortune of my money." he winked at her.
"haha. You act like I don't work." she laughed a little
"so you like it?"
"of course I like it. Would I squeal otherwise?"
"well.."
"honey, you know, my own credit card to the maternity shop may not seem like much, but seeing as Paul never gave me anything, he would even forget my birthday, I'm so pleased at this. I love you so much."
"and I love you." with that Nate took her in his arms, hit play on the cd player, and danced to Steve Tyrell the rest of the evening.

Jinny's eyes bugged out, then looked around.
"um...sure I have. You must of forgotten."
"no, Jin, you never told me. And I think as your husband I should know."
"Jack, this is hard for me." Jinny started to say.
"I know, but sweetie, it was 20 years ago. You have to be able to talk about it openly by now, or else you're never gonna heal."
Jinny looked up at him with tears in her eyes.
"Jack, when I was 12*, I came home from school, and I was all olone, which was weird, because usually at least my mom was there. There was no note, so I became worried, and started looking all over the house, calling my mom's name. When I got upstairs, I saw two feet sticking out of the bathroom. I remember it reminded me of the Wizard of Oz, how the house fell on the witch, and her feet stuck out. Except then I remembered in the Wizard of Oz the witch was dead when her feet were sticking out. So suddenly fear over came me. I walked slowly into the room, and saw my mother had shot herself. In the mouth. I just screamed, and little John came home, afterthat I dont remember, it's all a blur."
"Oh, Jinny...I'm so sorry."
Jinny started to weep, and Jack took her in his arms, comforting her, vowing silently to himself to always take care of her, never to let her get hurt again.
"Jinny?" Jack asked
sniff, sniff "yeah?"
"I want you to know that I love you, and I'll always be here for you. I mean that. I used to as a teenager say that to girls to get them to like me, but with you, I've never loved someone like you, and I really mean it." Jack sort of blurted out.
Jinny didn't reply, she just cried herself to sleep in Jacks arms.

Awwwwwwwwwwwww, Deirdre, that was soooooooooo sweet with CD and Nate! I loved it! :D :D :D And awww, you put in my favorite artist and all......:) And the Jinny part was great, too! Post more soon!

Awwwww, CD/Nate part was so sweet. And i loved Jinny/Jack part, too. Tho I like Teddy better than Jack*wink* *wink*:D I'm glad you decided to post more! So do that again SOON!

CD strolled into the maternity store with card in hand. She looked around for a minute with a giddy smile on her face. then she marched up to the front counter, where some pimply faced- multi peirced teenager stood.
"do you have some kinda of cart or bag for me to carry the clothes i want?"
"well, we give you shopping bags after u buy them"
"no, i mean, i'm gonna have a big load of stuff to try on"
"oh. well, um, like, u can put them on the front counter utnil u want to try the stuff on"
CD smile. "ok, thanks"
CD stepped back, and then turned around and looked around the store. her phone rang.
"Basso"
"hey, girlie."
"hey, Jin, what's up?"
"cleaning my frickin house. decided to take a break."
"good idea. hey, tell me sumthin"
"u are pregnant" Jin laughed
"duh, i know that, i meant answer my question i'm about to ask you" CD groaned
"oh!! ok. shoot"
"do you think it's a little weird a teenager would work at a maternity store?"
"um, yeah! maybe she's popluar and needs the discount" Jinny said
"omg! you make me laugh"
"then i'm doing my job right."

Jack awoke the next morning to the second half of his bed empty.
He jumped up and looked throughout the house.
"crap, she's not home. where the hell would she be on a saturday morning?"
he ate his breakfast, and then putzed around the house for a little bit. after a while he went out and bought a few things he was needing, and some candy. he went to the anchor side for lunch, hoping to run into Jinny. Sure enough, she was sitting by the window, reading the paper and eating club sandwich. he sat down accross from her.
"hey hunny!" Jinny smiled
"hey! i'm sorry" Jack said, handing her the candy.
"for what?" jinny asked, jumping into her box.
"for what i did"
"what did u do?" Jinny asked starting to get worried.
"well, i dont know, but when i woke up this morning u weren't in the bed, so i thought u were mad"
"oh, Jack, i had to run some errands! ha, ur a goof"
jack just slightly grinned
"but ur a sweet goof" Jinny leaned over and kissed him on his forehead.
