Hello!!! I was bored today because I had SATs and I had to mow, so I daydreamed a lot!! :D :cool: I came up with a new idea, so tell me what ya think!!!!:p

“So she ended up shooting you?” the man across from the blond
asked her.
“Yes, almost 5 years ago,” CD replied.
“My gosh, that seems like forever ago.”
“Yeah, I know. So much has happened since the last time we’ve
seen each other, hasn’t it?” CD said, as she rubbed her hand across
her belly.
The man nodded. “It sure has. Have far along are you?”
“Almost 5 months, but it seems like about 10.”
The man laughed. “Yeah, I’m sure.” He stood up and got the
ticket from the table. CD tried to grab it. “No, no, CD, I’m getting it.”
“Aw, come on, let me at least pay half!” CD exclaimed.
“Nope, I won’t hear of it. Consider it my treat to an old friend.”
CD grinned. “So you think I’m old?!”
The man laughed. “Of course not! If I thought you were old,
then I’d have to think that I’m old because we’re close to the same
age!”
“Okay, let’s be fair then. Neither one of us are old!” CD replied
and walked over to him.
He embraced her, and then they broke away for a quick kiss on the
cheek. “Well, CD, it was so good to see you again! We’re going to have
to go get lunch again really soon, like this week,” He said.
“Okay, that sounds good to me! Just let me know ahead of
time, so I can make arrangements.”
“Ok, great. Hey, um, CD?”
“What?” CD asked.
“Uh, could you not tell Jinny that we met tonight?”
CD understood. “Of course I won’t tell her.”
“Thank you,” he said, as he walked out of Anchorside.

My honest oppion sp is that it's teddy I at first thought that it was Nate, but then at the end you said that part about not telling Jinny...So I think it's either Teddy or Jack.

Candace DeLorenzo walked into the Division and sat down at her
desk. Raina noticed that she had made it back from lunch, so she
sat down in the adjoining desk. “Hey CD!! Where’d ya go, you were
gone forever!”
CD could tell that it was going to be an annoying afternoon.
“Raina, it’s called lunch. I went to Anchorside and had a quick
bite.”
“A quick bite! You were gone for an hour and a half!!”
CD sighed. “I’m pregnant, Raina. I have to eat slowly, and I
had to check in with the baby sitter to make sure Isiah was alright.”
“Oh, I see. How is he doing? I haven’t seen him in forever!”
“Who?” CD asked, alarmingly.
“Um, Isiah, CD. Remember we were just talking about him? How is
he? I haven’t been over to see him in forever!”
“Oh, uh, yeah,” CD stammered. “Isiah is fine; he misses his
Daddy, but for the most part, he seems pretty happy,” CD replied,
glad that that was who Raina was talking about.
“That’s good,” Raina said, as Kate McCafferty walked out of
her office.
“Raina, CD, what are you two still doing here? I told you to get
right on it, Raina!”
“Sorry, Cap, but I got to talking and....”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. Have you briefed CD yet?”
“Um, actually that was my next order of business,” Raina
replied.
Kate rolled her eyes. “Sure, Raina. Just tell her and get busy!”
Kate walked back into her office while Raina told CD the
situation. “A robbery on 42nd Street. You and I are up.”
CD nodded. “Alright, let’s go.”
“Okay, then partner!” Raina exclaimed.
The two of them traveled downtown to brief the witnesses on the
robbery. A convience store was hit, and then a nursing home was
broken into. At the home, CD and Raina got some pretty interesting
statements-- “We couldn’t defend ourselves, it was kareoke night,
and we were getting down!”, “The Don’t-Stop-Dance contest was
going on, and we didn’t want to lose, so we just gave them
everything we had and continued dancing!”, and “My cane was in
my room, and I was in the tv room when they attacked!!”
After a long, exhausting day, CD and Raina finally made it
back to the Division. “Oh, I’m so tired,” CD said, as Kate came out of
her office and heard her.
“Candace DeLorenzo, you know you’re not supposed to be
overdoing it!”
“Cap, I’m not overdoing it, I’m just a little sleepy.”
“CD, don’t you lie to me! You went to far today, and your shift ended
2 hours ago. Go home to Isiah, and take the morning off. Just come
in for a half day tomorrow.”
“Cap, I don’t need special treatment. I’ll be back in the
morning, fresh as a daisy.”
“Well, if I ever hear you say that you’re exhausted again, or if
you look like you do now, then you’re definitely taking a day off!! Or
I’ll just start your maternity leave early!”

“Oh, please no, Cap! I have to stay busy! You know that I almost died
when I had to start maternity leave at 4 months when I was
pregnant with Isiah! I went stir crazy!”
“Well, Miss Candace, if you’d slow it down a little, then you
wouldn’t have to worry about early leave!”
“Yes, Captain,” CD said as she grabbed her coat. “See ya
tomorrow then.”
CD walked out to the parking lot and got into her car. She
drove quickly to the daycare and picked up Isiah. “Mommy,
Mommy!!” was all she could hear as she strolled down the hallway.
“Hey, how’s my man doin, today?!!” she exclaimed as she picked him
up into a big bearhug. She couldn’t resist, even though her back was
killing her, and it took all she had to actually lift him.
“I’m fine, Mommy! How was work; did you and Aunt Raina
catch all the bad guys?!”
CD smiled. “We sure did!”
“Good!” Isiah exclaimed. “How’s Grandma Katie? I miss her;
can we go visit her tonight??”
CD grinned. “No, honey, not tonight. It’s too late to go visiting
anyone! It’s almost our bedtime!”
Isiah groaned. “No, Mom!!” He sighed. “Well, can I at least
CALL Grandma Katie and say hi?”
“Of course you can, as soon as we get home,” CD replied as she
said goodbye to the daycare assistant. The two of them walked out
the doors and got into the car. CD drove home, fastly but with
cauton.
They pulled up to their modern size house, and Isiah jumped
out. “Can I unlock the door, Mommy?”
“Of course you can, sweety.” She pulled out her keys and
selected the correct one. “Here ya go.”
Isiah ran to the door, dropping some of his papers that he had
drawn that afternoon, and unlocked it. “Hurry up Mommy, we need
to call Grandma Katie!!”
CD smiled as she picked up the trail of papers. “I’m coming
honey, mommy’s a little slow lately.”
“Oh yeah, I forgot!! Don’t hurry because we want my baby sister
to be okay!”
“Yes, we do,” CD replied as she made it to the door and locked
it behind her. She went to the kitchen to check the answering
machine. One new call. She pressed the button and listened.

Ok, I have a volleyball game tomorrow, so I won't be able to post till sometime tomorrow night, so here's some more!!

tomorrow!! I haven’t seen my grandson or my beautiful daughter
lately! TaTa for now!!”
She sighed heavily as she wondered why in the hell her mother
was coming to ruin her life again. She put the thought in the back of
her mind and picked up the phone to dial Kate’s number.
Kate picked up on the third ring. “Hello?” She asked.
“Hey, Kate, it’s me.”
“Hi, CD, everything okay?”
“Yeah, everything’s just fine, but you have someone that really
wanted to visit you tonight, but I said no. We compromised with a
phone call.”
Kate grinned. “Oh, and who might that be??”
CD smiled. “Hang on, let me get him!” She handed the phone
to four year old Isiah.
“GRANDMA KATIE!! I miss you!! When are you coming to see us? I
haven’t got to show you my pictures yet! I drew one for you! It’s got
you, me, Mommy, and Daddy on it! Mommy wanted it, but I told her
that it was for you!”
Kate laughed. “Well, Isiah, thank you so much! I need to get
over there and see you soon then, don’t I?”
“Yeah, Grandma, you do! How about tonight?” Isiah smiled as
he was trying to work around his mom’s orders.
“Isiah Nathaniel!” CD exclaimed. “What did I tell you?”
Kate could hear CD and grinned. “Well, honey, how about I
come over tomorrow after work? We could get some pizza; WHATEVER
toppings you want!”
“Really?!” Isiah exclaimed. “Okay, I’ll see you tomorrow then!
I’ll put out the picture, so I don’t forget it!”
“Okay, honey,” Kate replied.
“Well, I’m going to go then. I love you Grandma Katie!”
Kate smiled. “I love you too, Isiah. Put your mom back on the
phone, alright?”
“Okay,” Isiah replied and handed the phone back to CD. “Grandma
wants to talk to you again.”
CD nodded and said hello again.
“Hey, did you hear the plan? Is it alright if I come over
tomorrow?”
CD nodded. “That’s fine, Isiah will absolutely love it. A
warning though-- my mom might be here.”
“What? Why?” Kate asked. She knew that CD and Polly didn’t get along too well.
“I don’t know why. She left a message saying that she missed the two
of us and was going to come visit. She didn’t say what she wanted
from me.”
Kate sighed, trying to hide the hatred. “Well, maybe she IS just
coming to see her grandson and you.”
CD grunted. “Yeah, and I’ll be sleeping with Nate tonight.”
Kate smiled a sad smile and shook her head. “Bad joke, CD.”

you want to come visit Louis and Grandma Katie, don’t ever
hesitate.”
CD smiled. “I won’t, I promise. Oh ,hey, Cap? I think I will take
off tomorrow, so I can get everything cleaned up here. Don’t want to
hear complaining when Mom comes.”
“Alright, just don’t work too hard, okay? What time you want
me over there?”
“Oh, seven. seven thirty’s fine. Whenever. Isiah will be counting down
the time.” CD grinned. “Even though he can’t tell time.”
Kate laughed. “So will I, CD.”
“Well, I’d better go. I need to remind Isiah who my mom is to
him. He’s only seen her once ,and that was when he was probably
one. She’ll be really pissed if he doesn’t remember her!”
“Oh well!” Kate hotly replied. “She needs to come around more
often if she expects a little boy in know who she is.”
“I know,” CD replied. “Well, Cap, I’ll see ya tomorrow night.”
“Okay, bye CD.”
CD hung up the phone and went into Isiah’s room. He was
down on his knees, saying his prayers. “Please watch over Grandma
Katie, and give Daddy a kiss for me. I miss him very much,and I
know Mommy does too. Sometimes I see her with a picture of her and
Daddy, and she’s crying. Please help her to stop crying.”
CD’s eyes welled up in tears.
“And Jesus, please help me to be a good boy, so Mommy doesn’t
have to yell at me. She’s tired because of me and the baby. Give a kiss to my baby sister, since I can’t yet. I can only kiss Mommy’s belly.
Thank you for my bed and my pajamas. Amen.”
CD hurriedly wiped the tears from her face. “Good job, Isiah!
You said your prayer, and I didn’t even remind you!”
Isiah nodded. “Yep, Mommy I remembered!” he said as he
jumped into bed. CD wrapped the covers around him tightly.
“Snug as a bug in a rug,” she replied. “Sleep tight, baby. And
guess what! I’m not going to work tomorrow, so we can be here all
day tomorrow together!”
“Yay!” Isiah screamed. “I’m glad, Mommy. I miss you.”
“Me too, honey.” She fluffed his pillow out from underneath
him. “Okay, Isiah, good night, sweetpea!” She kissed his forehead
and went to shut off his light.
“WAIT! You forgot!”
“Forgot what?”
“I didn’t get to kiss my baby sister!!”
CD smiled. “Oh yeah I forgot!!” She bent down, so he could rub her
belly and kiss it. “There, now we can go to sleep,” CD replied. She
turned off the light and shut his door behind her. She walked into
her bedroom and changed into her bed clothes. She got into bed
and turned on the news. That only lasted about 10 minutes before
she was fast asleep.

the next morning.
“What, sweety?” CD asked.
“There’s some lady at the front door!”
CD groaned as she tried to get up. “Dammit,” she murmured as
she ran to the bathroom. She still got sick close to every morning, but
today it was more nerves than the pregnancy.
“Mommy, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you mad and get
sick,” Isiah said as he followed her into the bathroom.
“It’s not, <<hurl>> your fault <<vomit>>,” CD replied. “I didn’t
mean to say that word, Isiah. You didn’t make me sick; this
pregnancy makes me a little sick.” She finished throwing up and
grabbed a towel for her face.
Isiah, remembering how Daddy did it when Mommy was sick,
got a cup and filled it with water. “Here you go, Mommy,”
CD smiled. “Thank you, honey.” She drank some of it and stood
up. “We should go see who’s at the door; they’ve probably given up on
us!”
Isiah nodded, and the two of them went to the door. CD answered it
a little unwillingly, remembering she forgot to remind Isiah.
“Finally, dammit, where in the hell were ya? Ya got a visitor in
your bed or what??”
“MOM!” CD exclaimed, looking over at Isiah, who was scared
out of his mind. “Watch your mouth, Isiah’s in the room.”
“Oh, bull ****, CD, he’s heard that kind of stuff all the time, I’m
sure. Daddy’s probably used it lots of times, huh, boy?”
Isiah shook his head no.
“That’s right, Isiah, Daddy doesn’t use that kind of language,
and neither do I regularly.” CD looked at Isiah. “Honey, you want to
go put some good clothes on, and then you can come back and talk
to your grandma?”
“Yes, Mommy.” Isiah turned to go to his room but stopped.
“She’s not my grandma though, remember, Mommy? Grandma’s not
coming until tonight.”
CD replied back, “Honey, this is your other grandma. She’s my mom.
Now go to your room and change, sweetheart. Bring your drawings
and show Grandma, okay?”
He nodded as CD’s mom looked at her. “His other grandma?
Nate’s mom is starting to come around now?”
CD shook her head. “No, he calls a mutual friend grandma. No
big deal.”
“No big deal my ass! My grandson is calling someone besides
me GRANDMA!! He doesn’t even know who I am!”
“Well, Mom whose fault is that? You’ve only seen him once; he’s
not going to remember you after one time!!”
“I don’t understand you sometimes, Candace. I just don’t.”
“Maybe it’s because you never see me!” CD sighed and stopped
before she regretted what she would say. “I don’t want to argue with
you, Mom. Why are you here?”
“I wanted to see how you and Isiah are.”
“And???”
“And what?”
“What else is there?” CD asked, knowing there was something
else.
“Well, honey, I know you’re having to fully support this family
of yours strictly on your own, and I thought we needed to talk about
that.”
“What’s there to talk about?”
“Well, Nate needs to start doing his part. I can’t believe he would just
desert his family like that. I think we need to start talking child
support.”

NOT divorced, so why would he pay me child support??”
“Because he doesn’t help with his kids, Candace. It’s his fault
you got knocked up!” CD’s mom shouted back, not knowing that
Isiah was right behind CD. “And it’s not like you two meant to have
that Isiah either!”
CD could not believe what she was hearing. “You have no right
coming in here, telling me how my life is. You have no clue what’s
going on in it. Isiah might’ve been unplanned, but he’s the best
thing that has ever happened to Nate and me! Nate will be back; he’s
doing something for his country, Mom!! And as a matter of fact,
event though it is NOT your business, he’s sending me his check every
single time he gets one!! So you need to check your facts before you
start going off on me!!”
“Candace, come on now. We all know Nate’s a good looking guy. He’s
thousands of miles away from his wife and kid. Women are going to
be attracted to him, so I would bet money he’s not coming back! He’s
probably in bed right now with a cheap whore, following in the shoes
of your ex husband!!”
“You stupid...” CD started, but was interrupted.
“MY DADDY IS TO COMING BACK!!!” Isiah shouted, tears rolling
down his face. “He’s fighting, and he’s coming back!!” CD picked him
up and rocked him. “He will come back, won’t he, Mommy?”
CD held him close. “Yes, baby, he’ll come back.” She looked at
her mom and gave her the evil eye. “He’ll be back as soon as he can
because he loves us.”
She took Isiah to his room and sat him on the bed. “I’m sorry you
had to hear all of that, honey. I have to go back and talk to her,
okay?” He nodded. “Okay, you stay here and watch tv or something.
CD went back into the living room. “Dammit, what the hell are
you doing? Are you trying to scar that little boy? Just because I had
a ****ty life while I lived with you doesn’t mean that you can make
my son have a bad life with me.”
“CD, I...”
“No, don’t talk yet. I’m not you; I don’t make the same stupid
mistakes that you made. My husband does NOT sleep around on me;
he’s serving in the military, and he’ll be back the second he gets the
chance.”
“CD, I...”
“NOT YET. And lastly, I don’t think you need to be around my
son anymore. Or at least for a little while.” The phone rang, but CD
just let it get the machine. “You’ve hurt him, even if you didn’t mean
to. You have to realize you can blow off your opinions in front of
little kids. They actually think that they are real,” CD replied as
Isiah came into the room.
He had answered the phone. “Mommy, it’s Grandma Katie, she
wants to ask you a question.”
“Katie?! As in Kate McCafferty?!! You’re letting MY grandson
call that bitch GRANDMA?! You have got to be kidding me!”

CD smiled. “There will be a time for that later, Cap.” She
frowned at her mom. “Actually, there might not be a time because
she was just on her way out.”

“Let me talk to her, CD! I can giver her a piece of mind, and
Isiah won’t hear what I’m saying! Unlike her!”
CD nodded. “Ok, Cap,” she said and handed her mom the
phone.
“Now listen here, you stupid sack of ****. You do NOT cuss in front of
that little boy, you do NOT talk to your daughter that way, and you
do NOT call me those names unless I’m right there to kick your ass!”
Kate exclaimed.
“I, uh, you stupid....”
“Shut up, and get the hell out of her house. Don’t come back
until she asks you to. If you don’t agree, and I come over there, you
can bet your sorry ass that you WILL be arrested and you WILL be
charged with trespassing. Do I make myself clear?”
She knew she’d lost. “Fine, you dumbass bitch, we’ll do it your
way. But my grandson will NOT call you grandma!!”
Kate grinned. “Sorry, babe, but he already does, and he won’t
stop!!” She hung up the phone with a satisfied smile on her face.
CD’s mom huffed and puffed as she got her stuff back together
and silently walked out the door.

CD turned to Isiah. “You alright, honey?”
Isiah nodded as his teary eyes were beginning to dry.
“Isiah, what she said about your daddy isn’t true; you know
that right?? Do you remember why he’s gone?”
Isiah shook his head no. “I know you told me, Mommy, but now
I forget.”
“That’s okay, I’ll tell you again.” She picked him up, and they went
to the couch and sat down. “Okay, when your daddy was getting out
of high school, he signed a contract with the military saying that he
would serve for the four years he was in college. But he didn’t realize
that in the small print, it said that he was actually availabe for life.
So now he’s over in Iraq, protecting us and all the other families in
our country. We’re trying to get his contract ended because it wasn’t
right the way that man roped your dad into it. So I’ve been talking
to our friend, Teddy, who’s a lawyer. He just moved back into town,
and he’s trying to help us. As soon as he finds something, Daddy can
come back home.”
Isiah nodded. “Will that be soon, Mommy?? I miss him.”
“I miss him, too, sweetheart. SO much. And Uncle Teddy is
working really hard to get him back to us.”
Isiah grinned. “Good. I like this Uncle Teddy.”
CD smiled. “I like that Uncle Teddy, too.” She stood up. “Well,
since we got rid of that mean woman, I’ll go get dressed,and then
we can get some breakfast. Sound good?”
CD smiled. “We can have whatever you want.”
She went to her room and got dressed. She brushed her hair
back into a ponytail and went into the kitchen to prepare for a
great day with just her and one of the loves of her life.

Dinner rolled around as a knock came at the front door.
“I’LL GET IT!!!!!” Isiah shouted as he ran through the house to
open the door.
CD laughed as she walked behind him to make sure it was
Kate.
Isiah opened the door. “Mommy, it’s my REAL grandma!!” he
yelled as he invited her in.
“Yes, it is! So did the fake grandma leave?” Kate asked with a
devilish grin.
“Uh huh!! I’m glad, too, she scared me. I started to cry,” Isiah
said matter of factly as the walked into the dining room.
“She made you cry?!” Kate exclaimed. “Well, Isiah Nathaniel Basso,
if that woman ever comes back, and she’s mean to you, you call your
Grandma Katie ,and she will take care of business, alright?!”
Isiah nodded as Kate opened the pizza-- pepporroni, bacon
and extra cheese-- just how he wanted it. “Thank you so much!” he
exclaimed as claimed his first piece.
“Isiah, hold on now, I don’t even have plates out yet,” CD said.
“That’s ok, Mom, we don’t need plates. If we get out the plates,
then you’d have to clean them. We don’t want that; you have to play
with me and Grandma.”
CD laughed. “Well I’m sure my Captain would not enjoy eating
without plates!”
Kate turned to Isiah and grinned. “Actually, the kid has a
wonderful plan. I refuse to eat my pizza unless it’s only on a
napkin!”
CD smiled. “Well, how about a paper plate then? I guess I could settle
for that.”
Kate nodded. “Okay, I too, can accept a paper plate.”
“Me too!” Isiah agreed.
The three sat down and ate their pizza, talking about their
day, mainly making fun of Polly, CD’s mom. They finished their
meal, so they moved the party into the living room where Isiah had
his pictures out on display for his ‘grandma’ to see.
“Oh, these are the best pictures ever, Isiah!” Kate said as she
held him in her lap.
“Thank you,” he said. “And this one is for you.” He picked up
one he had just made that day. It had Grandma Katie holding him,
and CD and Nate were holding hands.
“That is just very beautiful, Isiah! I love it so much!! It has my 3
favorite people in it!”
Isiah looked at her sadly. “Not 4 favorites?”
Kate was confused. “What, Isiah? Honey, I only see 4 people
there, and one of them is me!”
Isiah shook his head. “No, Grandma, there’s five people. You
forgot my baby sister!”
Kate smiled. “Oh yeah, I forgot!!” She looked over at CD and looked
back at the picture. “Mommy’s belly is bigger in real life, so I coudn’t
see it on your picture as well.”

CD grinned. “Thank you sweetheart.” She looked at her stomach.
“Well, since I’m not fat, who’s up for ice cream?!!”
Kate and Isiah, at the same time, exclaim, “ME, ME!!”
The three of them go into the kitchen and get their ice cream.
Kate stays for awhile longer and puts Isiah to bed with CD. After they
left his room, Kate picked up her coat.
“I’d better be going, so you can get your rest.”
CD smiled. “Yeah, I am a little tired.”
Kate nodded. “Well, I’ll see ya tomorrow, Inspector.”
“Yep, you will,” CD replied. “Kate? Thanks for coming tonight.
You made his day. I haven’t seen him that happy since Nate left.”
Kate went over to CD and hugged her. “It was my pleasure,
honey. And I’ll be back sometime soon to visit again.”
CD nodded. “Good,” she said as she opened the door, and Kate
went out.
CD went to her room to prepare for another night of lonliness.


“CANDACE DELORENZO, WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME?!!” Jinny
exclaimed as soon as CD walked through the door.
Everyone was staring at CD. “What are you talking about, Jin?”
CD asked, very confused.
Jinny looked around and noticed everyone listening in.
“Follow me!” she replied and made CD follow her to the ladies’ room.
“Jin, what is it?”
“CD, you know damn well what it!” Jinny screamed, while CD
still had a puzzled look on her face. “Come on, CD! Anchorside, two
days ago! You had a lunch guest, and you didn’t tell me!”
CD shut her eyes and softly cursed. “Who told you, Jinny?”
“That doesn’t matter, CD! Why didn’t YOU tell me?”
“I didn’t tell you because it was for personal reasons, and
Teddy told me not to.”
“My ex boyfriend comes back to town, and you don’t tell me! Who
cares if it’s personal, and who cares what he told you to say!”
“Jin, please calm down! Teddy saw me a week or so ago, and
we talked for a long time. I met him at Anchorside to talk about
Nate’s case. We’re trying to get him back home. AND Teddy asked me
not to tell you because he wanted to tell you himself. He’s only been
back for two weeks, so he’s not settled in. He told me that he wanted
to be completely moved in to his new apartment before he talks to
you. He wants you to come over and have dinner with him after he’s
all arranged.”
Jinny sighed. “Man, I’m an ass.”
CD smiled. “Yes, you are. But that’s why we love you.”
“Who’s we?”
CD grinned. “Oh, I don’t know. Me, Cap, Mag.....” She paused
for a sec, until Jinny was looking at her. “Teddy.”

“Teddy?!” Jinny exclaimed. “Did he say that?”
CD smirked. “I’m not supposed to be talking about him,

“Oh, CD, come on! You’ve started, you mise well finish!”
“Well,” CD smiled. “Let’s just say that he misses you and he
wishes things could back to how they were.”
Jinny grinned. “I wish that, too.” She stood up and went to the
door to open it. “CD, I’m sorry I jumped to conclusions. It’s just that
someone said they saw you and the two of you were kissing.”
“KISSING?!” CD laughed. “Oh my gosh, Jin, you need to beat
your resource because they blew everything out of proportion! I DID
kiss Teddy, but strictly on the cheek! I’m a married woman! And I’m
sure Teddy wishes he was a married man!”
Jinny grinned. “You think?”
CD smiled. “Oh yeah. BUT you did NOT hear that from me.”
“Okay, CD,” Jinny replied as the two of them walked out of the
bathroom and back to their desks.
CD had a lot of paperwork to catch up on, so she did that while her
partner Raina did some fieldwork on the robbery case. At around
lunchtime, Jinny’s cell phone rang.
“Hello?” she asked.
“Hi Jin, it’s me,” he paused. “Teddy.”
“Teddy! Oh my gosh, where are you? Are you back in San
Francisco?”
Teddy laughed. “It’s okay, you don’t have to play along; CD
called and told me that she had to spill the beans because someone
saw us together. I’m sorry I haven’t talked to you sooner; I’ve been
trying to get everything together before I bother....”
“Teddy, don’t worry about it!” Jinny exclaimed. “I’m just glad
you’re back! We have so much to catch up on! You want to have
dinner tonight?”
Teddy sighed. “Well, the first time we had dinner together, I
wanted it to be private, so we could talk through some things. My
apartment’s not finished yet, so...”
“So come to my place! I’d love to have you! And we do need to
talk in private.”
“Jin, um, there are so many things I need to ask you. To be honest,
we haven’t seen each other in years. But I still feel the same for you
as I did when we were dating.”
Jinny grinned. “I know, Teddy. I feel the same way.” She smiled
and softly whispered. “I think we need to make up for lost time
tonight.”
Teddy smiled. “You don’t waste any time, do ya?!”
“Not with you, Teddy. I’ve wasted too much time already.”
Teddy nodded. “I know what you mean, baby. Okay, so I’ll be
over tonight.”
Jinny smiled and gave him her newest address. “Bring a
change of clothes, so you won’t have to rush off in the morning.”
Teddy laughed. “All right, I’ll be there at 7, babe.”
“Can’t wait.” They hung up and Jinny went back to work with
a BIG smile on her face for the rest of the day.

Promptly at 7, Teddy rang the doorbell. Jinny raced to the door and
answered it. “Oh, Teddy, you haven’t changed a bit! You’re the same
romantic man that I loved!” Jinny exclaimed as he handed her a
dozen longstem red roses.
“Thank you, thank you,” he replied as he kissed her cheek.
“Almost 7 years ,and all I get is one on the cheek?!”
Teddy smiled and took back the roses, lying them on the
counter. He drew her into a big hug and embraced her lips with his.
“I missed you,” he said, as he broke the kiss moments later.
“Mmmmm,” was all Jinny could get out. “Me too.”
He smiled as she took his hand and led him around the
aparment, showing him her new crib. “This is great! I love this
space,” he said as they got back to the kitchen. He grinned at her.
“So what are you making me for supper?’
Jinny grinned. “Well, let’s see. I went with spaghetti and
meatballs, a salad, and some dessert.”
“What, no garlic bread?!” Teddy exclaimed jokingly.
“Ew, garlic?! No way!” She wrapped her arms around him and
slightly brushed her lips against his. “No garlic for you, given the
evening I have planned,” she smirked.
“And what is that?”
“You’ll just have to find out,” she said and gave a little wink.
They sat down to eat their meal, and it took forever to finish because
all they did was stare at each other. Every once in awhile, Jinny
would feel Teddy’s foot crawling up her leg. She would grin and take her foot and do the same. Finally, after neither one of them ate
anything, they gave up and moved into the living room.
“I missed you,” Jinny whispered as she sat on top of him,
unbuttoning his shirt.
“Uh, huh, me too,” he said through kisses all over her neck. He
brought her shirt up over her head and was in awe with what he saw
underneath. “Oh, Jin, I forgot how beautiful you are.”
Jinny smiled. “I know what you mean.” She went to his belt
and started unbuckling. His pants went down in a hurry, and her
hands assumed a position.
He groaned at her touch, and the two of them made sweet,
passionate love. They had missed each other so much that it was over
quickly, so they decided to go another round.

“Yes, that’s me. Who is this?” CD asked alarmingly.
“Ma’am, I’m sorry to bother you at work, but there’s a problem
with your husband.”
“A problem? What kind of problem?” CD asked, as Kate heard
CD raise her voice, so she walked out of her office.
“I’m really sorry, someone should be telling you in person, but
we’re really backed up right now.” The man sighed. “Your husband
and his group were supposed to be doing practice flights near the
base. They were re-routed in a heavy storm, and their plane
crashed.”
CD closed her eyes. “Did you find him?”
“No, ma’am, that’s the thing. We have missing bodies still, and
Nathan Basso’s is one of them.”
“Body? What do you mean, body? Don’t you mean, Nathan
Basso’s missing, not just his dead body?!” CD screamed into the
phone, and Kate got an alarmed look on her face.
“I’m really sorry, I didn’t mean for it to sound like that. It’s
just that some of his crew has shown up. Well, their bodies have. It
doesn’t look too promising, ma’am.”
CD sighed, as tears rolled down her cheeks. “Thank you for
telling me, and please call me if you hear anything else.”
“I w....” CD hung up before he could finish and burried her
head on her desk.
Kate came up from behind her and embraced her. “Nate’s
missing?” she asked.
CD looked up and nodded. She explained the situation through her
tears and hiccups to her captain.
“Oh my gosh, CD, honey, I’m so sorry,” Kate said as she stroked
her back.
CD rambled. “Now what do I do, Cap? Go home and wait till I
get word of a body? Go home and tell my son that he doesn’t have a
daddy? Call my mom and tell her I can’t afford to live by myself with
two kids and no father?”
“CD, get a hold of yourself. First of all, he’s MISSING, not dead.
And until you have solid proof, he’s still alive. So do not wait till you
get word of a body, and do NOT tell your son that because, as of
right now, he DOES still have a father! And lastly, if you EVER called
your mom and told her that, I would beat you in the face! You will
never live with your mom; you would live with Louis and me, and
we’d help you raise your family!! She should stay as far away from
you as possible!”
CD smiled a little through her tears. “Thanks, Cap. And you’re right.
I shouldn’t be thinking that way. Not yet anyways.” CD stood up and
turned off her desk light. “I need to get home. I’m late again
tonight.”

“Could I call you after I put Isiah to bed? He goes to bed early,

out of here and go see your son.”

Teddy laughed too and buried his face in her hair. “I forgot
how great you smell, honey. We really missed out staying away from
each other for so long.”

clock. 10 pm, it read. “Hey, we’ve got the whole night ahead of us.
How about we go once more?” She grinned.
“Hmm,” Teddy pondered. “I don’t really think so, Jin.”

She laughed as they kissed.

CD picked up Isiah that night and put him into bed quickly. She
called and talked to Kate for about an hour, and at around 11:00,
they both hung up. CD went into the kitchen. She got out the tequila
and sat it on the counter. She touched her belly for a sec, muttering,
“I really don’t give a damn,” and sat a glass beside the bottle. She
opened it and poured herself a shot. She put the bottle back up and
sat down to drink her sorrows away.
As she put the glass to her mouth, she heard a shriek come from
the other room. She ran as fast as her body would permit to Isiah’s
room. “Isiah, honey, what’s wrong?”
Isiah sat up crying. “I had a bad dream, Mommy.”
She sat down beside him. “What was is honey?”
He sniffled as she put her arms around me. “Where’s Daddy?”
he asked.
“Isiah, you know where Daddy is.”
Isiah nodded. “I know, but I had a bad dream about him.”
“What happened, baby? You can tell me.”
“Well, I uh, (hiccup), dreamed that (hiccup) he was shot by the bad
guys over there. and he died. (hiccup) He’s not going to die, is he,
Mommy?” Isiah asked.
CD sighed and wondered what she could tell a 4 year old boy.
“Um, no sweety, he’s not going to die. He has to come back to see you
and your sister, right?”
Isiah nodded. “And you, Mommy.”
CD agreed. “Yep, he has to see me too.” She snuggled under the
covers with him. “You want me to stay in here tonight?” she asked
him.
“Uh huh,” Isiah replied as he curled into a little ball right
beside her.
They slept close that night, but CD kept waking up. She had
nightmares as well, and finally, at 4 in the morning, got up to start
her day. She went into the kitchen to get a glass a milk. She saw the
shot on the table and shook her head. “Thank you Isiah for helping out your sister,” she muttered under her breath as she dumped it
down the sink.
She started to clean the house for a little bit, trying to listen to
the news and not pay attention to her thoughts. A newsflash came
on.
“Hello, this is Dan Matthis reporting live from Iraq. We told you
yesterday that crew #4312 had suffered a plane wreck, and many of
its passengers were still missing. Ten have been reported dead at the
current time, but miraculously, one member of the crew has been
found. He’s still alive and is in the hospital being treated for minor
cuts and dehydration. We will have an interview with this
courageous man later this afternoon. Back to you, Chris.”
CD watched with happiness and wonder. Was it Nate? Did he
make it?
She didn’t know how to get into touch with anyone there, so
she went to her purse and pulled out the number Nate gave her to
use when she was in labor. She dialed quickly, and a man answered.
“Hello?” he asked.
Hi, my name is Candace Basso; my husband is a part of crew #4312,
and I was wondering who the man that was found, what his name
was.”

CD sat there in absolute anger and frustration. Staring off
into space, she thougtht about the times her and Nate shared before
Isiah was born. Romantic outings, picnics, incessant lovemaking,
and holding hands. She missed that more than anything. She knew
that he was the survivor. He had to be.

Jinny and Teddy awoke when the alarm went off at 6. Jinny
slapped it off as Teddy stirred.
“Time to get up, honey,” Jinny softly whispered.
“Not yet,” he murmured as he pulled her over to him and kissed her
cheek.
She sat up. “Teddy, we can’t. I have to take a shower. I need to
still prove that I can be on time, even if we’re going to date again. I
was never on time when I used to date you,” she replied.
“Neither was I,” Teddy smirked as she got out of bed. “Can I at least
join you?”
Jinny smiled. “Are ya gonna make me late?”
He got out of bed and wrapped his arms around her, kissing
her forehead. “Probably.”
Jinny giggled. “Well, at least you’re honest!” she exclaimed.
She took his hand and led him into the bathroom, where they
didn’t make it to the shower before they’d already captured each
other’s attention. They ended up on the floor, making love quickly,
then took it to the shower. Jinny, indeed would be late, but it was
definitely well worth it.

was sick of watching the TV screen because they weren’t releasing a
name until they got a hold of the man’s family. She convinced
herself that it was Nate, so her worries would cease.
“Hey, CD, any word?” Raina asked, who also saw the morning
news.
CD shook her head. “Nothing yet, but thanks Raina.”
Raina nodded and watched CD walk through the bathroom
door.
CD used the restroom and calmly sat at her desk, filing.

Kate came out of her office an hour later. “CD, in my office for
a second.”
“What is it, Cap?” CD asked.
“In my office, Inspector,” Kate repeated.
Confused, CD walked into Kate’s office and had a seat. “What’s up,
Cap?”
Kate was focused and to the point. “I know you can’t see the TV
out there, but I was watching the news in here. They released the
name of the man,” Kate said, pausing to look into CD’s eyes. “Honey,
it wasn’t him.”
CD shook her head. “No, Cap, you’re wrong! That’s him! That’s
him, dammit!!” CD screamed, tearing steamrolling down her face.
“That’s got to be him,” came out, almost like a whispe as she fell to
the ground.
Kate sat on the ground with her, hugging her and combing
down her hair as she gently rocked her. “Honey, that still doesn’t
mean that he’s not out there. Troops get separated from their group
all the time, CD. Maybe that’s what happened to Nate. Or he’s helping his crew try to get to safety or something, and he won’t give up till
they’re together. I don’t know, but we HAVE to stay optimistic.”
CD nodded. “Yeah, I guess.” She pressed on her stomach and
grimaced.
“Ya all right?” Kate asked.
CD nodded. “Yeah, just a little jolt, I’m fine.”
Kate nodded. “Ok, if you say so.”
“Yes, I do,” CD replied.

Almost two months passed and no word of Nate. A couple of
other guys had been found alive, but the bodies were piling up. No
one knew where they’d seen him last, so CD didn’t even know if he on
the plane. The anticipation and worry caught up with her one week,
and as her 8th month came around, the doctor forced her to take
maternity leave. She was supposed to rest as much as possible and go
easy on the heavy lifting. She hated people waiting on her hand and
foot, so she never asked for any special consideration.
However, every night someone came by to check on her. She
always protested but always enjoyed the company. Kate came by
every single day on her lunch hour, and her and Louis always came
by at night.
Jinny and Teddy were pretty much over there every other night. The
nights they weren’t over there, they were planning for the biggest
event in their lives-- Teddy proposed, and Jinny quickly accepted,
not wanting him to get away for the second time. They wanted a
wedding as soon as possible, so they decided to wait until CD’s
pregnancy was over (which was in a little over a week) and when
her figure was back to normal, so she could fit into a dress for the
wedding party. Jinny had asked CD to be her maid of honor, much
to Magda’s and CD’s surprise. Jinny and her had gotten so much
closer, since CD didn’t have Nate to confide in. CD gratefully
accepted, so they decided two months after CD’s pregnancy would be
enough time for her.

One week before the due date, CD awoke to a horrible pain in her
stomach. She had never experienced pain that awful. She figured she
was having a contraction and needed a doctor. She called Kate,
who was quickly over at CD’s house in 15 minutes. CD had gotten
Isiah up and dressed, packed her overnight bag, and packed Isiah’s
while waiting.
“Candace DeLorenzo-Basso, I swear, you never give up, do
you?!” Kate exclaimed. “Packing bags while you’re in LABOR!”
CD smiled through the shooting pain. “Well, you know me, Cap,”
Kate nodded as she helped CD out the door, while holding
Isiah’s hand.
The arrived at the hospital in record time; Jinny and Teddy
were waiting there, prepared to take Isiah with them to the waiting
room. Kate went with CD into the delivery room, where they pre-oped
and got Kate into some scrubs.
Ten hours later, the baby was finally close. CD was shrieking in
pain, while Kate held her hand tightly.
“CD, it’s going to be okay, you’re almost there.”
“**** you!! I hate you, dammit!!! I wish you were pushing over
here right now instead of me!!!” CD screamed back.
Kate nodded. “I know, honey, me too.”
CD began to tear up as the contraction passed. “Dammit, I
didn’t mean that, Cap. I’m sorry.”
Kate smiled. “I know, CD, it’s okay. Let’s just get this over and done
with, ok?”
CD nodded. “Ok,” she replied. “Kate, I wish Nate was here.”
“I know, baby, I know. I wish he was, too.”
An hour later, Candace DeLorenzo-Basso gave birth to a
beautiful baby girl, Christina Danielle Basso. Isiah was sound asleep
when Kate came out and made the announcement. She woke him up
as she told the others. They all rejoiced and then fell exhausted to
the couchs, to go to sleep for the night. Visiting hours were long over,
so Kate and Isiah slept on one couch, while Jinny and Teddy
snuggled on the other. Tomorrow they would visit the new baby
along with her proud mother.

TWO MONTHS LATER:
CD pulled her deep plum dress over her body and slipped her
shoes on. She looked in the mirror and smiled. She had lost every
single pound she had gained from the pregnancy and actually
looked trimmer and more fit than she had before Christina.
Christina was a colicky baby and kept CD up most nights. Isiah
tried his hardest to help out his mommy whenever he could, but
mostly she was on her own. Kate took time during the day to visit
and help out, and Jin always stopped by right after work to see if CD
needed anything.
Today, though, was Jinny’s day. It was finally time for her and
Teddy to be wed.
Jin walked into the room CD was changing into.
“Hey, CD, you look GREAT!” Jinny exclaimed.
“Thanks, Jin,” CD replied as she turned around. “Oh my gosh,
but you look gorgeous!!”
Jinny’s dress was a halter and after her middle, it poofed out a
little down the bottom. She had been tanning for a month before, so
her skin had a radiant glow.
“Thanks, CD,” Jinny replied to her compliment. “Ya ready for
today?”
CD nodded. “Yep, I can’t wait. I’m really happy for you,” CD
said in a monotone and didn’t sound happy at all.
“CD, what’s wrong? You don’t sound very happy.”
CD sighed. “I’m sorry, Jin. I AM happy for you. EXTREMELY
happy.” She looked at her wedding ring. “It’s just tough, ya know?”
Jin nodded. “Yes, CD, I know. And I understand.”
“It’s been so long, Jin. I miss him so much.” CD’s eyes started to
water up.
“I know it has,” Jinny looked at her watch. “Oops, sorry I gotta go
check on everyone else!” She kissed CD’s cheek. “Don’t cry, it’ll mess up
your make up.” And with that, CD was alone in the room.
“What the hell was that, Jin?” CD asked aloud. “Thanks for the
compassion, there, ‘best friend.’”
CD continued to cry a little as she got everything else together.
She made sure her hair was in tact, and then she looked around to
find that damn make up bag.
Footsteps crept up behind her. Hands intertwined onto her eyes
and lips went straight to her neck. CD turned around to see who this
person was, and why the hell they were kissing her.

Nate looked back into her eyes. She stuttered, trying to say
something, ANYTHING. She gave up and jumped into his arms. She
rested her head on his chest, crying profusely. He smiled and held
her tightly.
“Hi, honey, did you miss me?” Nate asked with a slight smile.
CD, who still couldn’t speak, answered that question with what
she knew best for him-- she kissed him smack on the lips with all of
the built up fire she had. He responded quickly and soon they were
just like it was a regular day, making out, hands roaming, and
zippers starting to come undone.
Then CD stopped. “Wait!” She exclaimed.
“What, baby?”
“Nate, where in the hell have you been, and why didn’t you get
a hold of me before you just showed up here?”
Nate smiled. “I was wondering how long it was going to take you
before you asked.”
CD grinned. “Well, when I saw YOU looking back at me, I lost
my train of concentration for a sec.” She then frowned. “Now it’s
back.”
Nate nodded. “Okay, here’s the short version because we’re
needed for this wedding.” She gave him a weird look. “I’m Teddy’s
best man. Anyway, my crew was the crew that went down. Five other
guys and myself parachuted off of the plane before it crashed. We
landed in some pretty rocky area, and were badly injured. So
injured that we couldn’t move for days. Not one of us could. But this
local family saw us and took us in. They would’ve been shot if their
country knew that they had us, so we were hidden in their basement
so we could be treated for our injuries.” CD nodded and let him
finish. “We were there for months; we all had a broken something or
other and were in really bad pain. Both of my legs were broken and
a bone in my skull had somehow protruded out of my skin, and they somehow had to fix that.
And so after we all healed, we set back on foot to our base. We
didn’t have military uniforms on, so no one believed we were
American soldiers; they thought we were spies. So an American
commander locked us up and was going to take us back to the states
to get info out of us. They finally found out who we really were, and
that story hasn’t been leaked to the press yet.” Nate took a deep
breath, and CD hugged him again.
“But how did you know about this wedding?” CD asked.
“Well, as soon as I got to a phone, which was almost a week
ago, I called you. You weren’t home, so I called the Division, but you
were still on maternity leave. Jinny answered and recognized my
voice. She told me about the wedding and that Teddy had really
wanted me for a best man and had actually not found one yet
because he didn’t know of anyone else he’d might want. So I told her
I’d be there, and then I got the brilliant idea of surprising you right before we go out there. No one else knows-- you, Jinny, and Teddy.
Are you mad at me?”

CD shook her head. “Nate, I haven’t seen you in months. I’ve missed
you and have prayed for this day, since the night you left. I don’t
think there’s any way I could be mad at you right now.” CD looked
into a mirror. “Oh, gosh, Nate, I changed my mind! Look at me! I’m
all splotchy, and now I have to put all of this crap back on because of
you!”
Nate laughed. “Well, I think that you’re beautiful.” He kissed her
cheek and handed her the make up bag.
She smiled at his compliment and started to put on her make
up. “Hey, Nate, don’t you think that your son should see you before
everyone else out there does?”
“Oh my gosh, CD, I didn’t even think of that! How is Isiah?” He
put his arms around her non-existing belly. “And how’s our newest
addition?” he whispered into her ear.
She grinned. “Isiah misses his daddy so much, but otherwise
doing very well. And Christina Danielle Basso needs to see her
daddy; that way, maybe she’d stop crying all night.”
“Christina Danielle, huh? That’s such a beautiful name,
honey.” CD nodded. “She cries all night?” Nate asked.
“Yeah, she cries mostly every night. During the day though,
she’s really passive. The colic is getting better with every day, it
seems.”
“Good, I can’t wait to hold her; to hold BOTH of them.”
CD nodded as she finished her make up. “Well, she’s at the
sitter’s right now, but Isiah is the ring bearer, so let me go get him,
so he can see you.”
Nate gave the ok and sat in the room waiting for his baby boy.
He was very nervous, not knowing if Isiah would recognize him.
CD got close to the door, and Nate could hear her say, “I have
a surprise for you waiting in here.” And she opened the door and
Nate turned to look.
“DADDY!!!!!!!” Isiah screamed at the top of his lungs and ran to
him. Nate picked him up into a big bear hug and rocked him
around.
“Isiah, you’ve so big! I can barely tell it’s you!” Nate exclaimed.
“It’s me Daddy!” Isiah turned to look at his mom. “Mommy,
now we’re all back together! As soon as we go get Chris from daycare,
we’ll be one happy family again!”

“You jerk!” CD yelled with a devilish grin. “That’s why you were
acting like you didn’t care earlier!”
Jinny smiled. “I wanted you to be surprised.”
“I was, Jin. Oh my gosh, was I ever.” CD smiled and slipped her
shoes. on. “We ready to get this wedding going?”
Jinny nodded. “I sure am!” The two of them walked down
closer to where they needed to be, listening to the organ music. The
men were walking down the aisle, and CD could hear gasps and
murmurs throughout the crowd as Nate walked down as Best Man.
She smiled, picturing Kate’s surprised face when she saw him.
Kate, indeed, was surprised. A BIG grin plastered her face as
Nate stopped at the end of the aisle to assume his position. She smiled
again when CD walked down the aisle, her trim figure exposed in
her dress and a healthy glow settled on her cheeks. She looked like
the old CD, happy and fortunate of her life.

The crowd stood as Jinny walked down the aisle, unbelievably calm
and collected. The two said their vows and made their way to the
end of the church, husband and wife. The wedding party waited
outside to greet all of the guests, and CD and Nate stood next to
each other, holding hands.
Kate was one of the first ones to make it up there. “I don’t know
who’ll have a better honeymoon tonight, the old married folk or the
new!” They all laughed as Nate kissed CD’s cheek, then let go of her
hand to hug his captain.
“Cap, it’s so good to see you,” Nate replied.
“And you likewise, Mr. Basso,” Kate said. “Sure glad that you’re
back here, safe and secure. Ya back for good now?”
Nate glanced at CD and then back at Kate. “Well, I haven’t
told anyone yet, but since we’re all here, I’d mise well tell now.” He
sighed. “I have a week off, and then I’m back in Iraq.”
CD had a surprised look on her face. “Nate, why in the hell are you
going back? You were LOST and injured, and American soldiers
tried to pass you off as the enemy! You have a growing family HERE,
and you’re just going to go back?” CD screamed.
Jinny and Teddy looked at them nervously. “CD, keep it to a
dull roar, please,” Jinny whispered.
“Yeah, CD, calm down,” Nate replied. “I signed a contract,
honey. There’s nothing I can do about it.”
CD sighed angrily. “Teddy, how’s the contract coming along?”
Teddy shook his head. “CD, I’m trying, I really am. There’s just not a
lot of luck going our way right now, and I haven’t been able to find
anything fallible.”
“Well, try harder!” CD exclaimed and left the wedding party
line, heading to the car. Nate took Isiah’s hand and started to
follow, but Kate stopped him.
“Nate, let me try her first,” Kate replied.
Nate, a little hurt, nodded and let Kate go. She walked up to
the passenger’s side and got in. “CD, come on now, we’re not going to
do this. Nate’s back, and this is Jinny’s wedding! You have to be
happy; at least you know that Nate’s safe.”
“Yeah, for the one lousy week he’s here,” CD mumbled. “Then
back off to Iraq, where he probably has a girlfriend there, who gives
him what he wants whenever he wants it.”
Kate laughed. “CD, you are CRAZY! Who, in the hell are you
describing, honey, your ex husband?”
“You stupid bi..” CD started.
“Now, hang on, CD. That’s what it sounds like! You know that
Nate would never have sex with another woman when he has YOU.
You’re everything he’s ever wanted, and you know that. I’m sure if he
could get out of this stupid contract, he would. He can’t help it that
he has to go back so soon, so the thing you should be doing now is be
grateful and loving to your husband.” Kate smiled as CD nodded
and hugged her tightly. “Plus, you’ve got a LOT of catching up to
do.”

CD shyly grinned. “You’re right Cap, I’m overreacting.” She turned to
the door and opened it. “Let’s get back out there; I’m going to say
goodbye to Jinny and Teddy now. I’ve got other places to be.”
Kate smiled and got out of the car. She watched CD go up to
Nate, kiss him whole heartedly and hug him. He hugged her back
and smiled. She whispered into his ear the plan, and they said good-
night to the newlyweds, and the three of them were off.

Nate pulled up to the house after picking up his baby daughter.
The four of them, for the first time, entered the house together. Isiah
was fast asleep in CD’s arms, and Christina was squirming in Nate’s.
They put Isiah down to bed, but Nate held onto the baby as they
walked into the living room, having a seat on the couch.
“Man, she looks just like you,” Nate replied.
CD smiled. “Yeah, a little, but she reminds me the most of you.”
“Really?” Nate asked.
CD nodded. “Yeah, her hard headed personality is like looking into
a mirror!!” She laughed.
“Ha ha, smart ass!” Nate laughed too, and CD snuggled up
close to him.
“You know I love you, right?” She asked.
“Of course I do, baby; what do you think kept me going over
there?”
CD grinned. “The sight of Magda and Raina when you got
back??”
Nate laughed. “Yep, that’s is! How’d you guess?!”
She smiled. “I just know you, I guess.” She watched Christina’s
head begin to drop into Nate’s shoulder as she began to fall asleep.
“Don’t let that trick ya,” CD replied
“What do ya mean?”
“She likes to act like she’s asleep, let’s you go to bed, and then
10 minutes after you fall asleep, there’s the wonderful world of
squealing.”
Nate laughed. “Can’t wait, honey.”
CD laughed also. “Well, if you can’t wait, then you can get up
to take care of her.”
He nodded. “That sounds pretty fair to me, since you’ve had to do it
since day one.” He stood up from the couch, reaching out a hand to
CD, and the two of them took Christina to her room and put her
down. Then, for once in a very long time, CD got an accomplice to
her bed. Someone besides a kicking and squirming four year old.
She snuggled into him after they’d changed for bed, loving to
feel his warmth and smell his scent next to her. He rolled over, so
they were face to face, and kissed her gently on the lips. She
responded but not as gentle. She grabbed at his lips with her teeth,
pulling him closer. She whipped out her tongue and waited in his
mouth until he dueled back. She tugged at his shirt, and his hands
roamed across her body. He threw off her nightgown and his kisses
went straight to her breasts. He stayed there, circling them and
sucking. She moaned out in pleasure, begging him for more. She
tugged at his boxers and got them off, sliding them down and
shoving them to the ground. He climbed on top of her and prepared
for an attack.

“Take me,” She murmured through groans. “Take me NOW.”
He smiled. “Did ya miss me, baby?” he purred into hermouth as
he captured it again.
She shook her head no. “I just missed this,” she replied, joking.
“Oh, ok, well I ‘m not going to argue with ya right now because I
missed this pretty badly, too.”
She smiled and as he prepared to enter, she gave him the go
ahead with her eyes. He brought himself in her, and they both
groaned loudly. She arched her back and let him penetrate further.
“Oh God, Nate!” She yelled out.
“Oooooo,” was all Nate could get out.
They climaxed simultaneously, and then fell exhausted on
each other.
CD grinned. “Wow, I missed that more than I realized.”
“Me too, baby. Oh, me too.”
The two of them lay next to one another, just glancing into
each other’s eyes, stealing a kiss every once in awhile. A knock came
at the door.
“Mommy? Daddy?” Isiah whispered.
CD looked up. “What is it, baby?” she asked.
“Can I sleep in here tonight? I want to be in here with Daddy.”
Nate grinned and looked at CD for approval.
“Of course you can, sweety. You go get your pillow and teddy
bear, and then come back,” CD replied.
“Ok,” Isiah ran to his room to get his stuff, while CD and Nate
scurried around looking for their clothes. They quickly found most of
them and put them on as Isiah was walking through the door.
That night, Isiah layed in the middle of his parents, who had
joined hands above his head and each had their extra arm draped
across him to get to one another.

The next morning, Nate was woken up by the whimpers of little
Christina coming from the baby monitor. He quickly got up and
went to check on her. He was very surprised that she hadn’t cried out
in the middle of the night, since CD said she was really colicky.
“And what’s the matter with you?” Nate asked lovingly, as he
picked up Christina.
Christina stopped crying and raised a hand to pat Nate’s face.
It was like she was trying to feel out his face to place it in her
memory bank to remember forever. She grabbed his nose and pulled
hard.
“OW!” he replied and laughed. “Did Mommy teach you that?”
he joked.
CD could hear everything from the baby monitor in her room, so she
went to the baby’s to sneak up on Nate. She walked through the door
and watched Nate talk to her, telling Christina random things and
making promises to her.
“I promise you, honey, I will try my best to make it back here as
soon as possible, okay? I’ve already missed too much of you and
Isiah going up, and I’ve missed your beautiful Momma so much. I
just hope that she can be understanding and still want me when I
finally get out of this mess.”
CD smiled and rested her head in the crevice between his
shoulder and neck. “She will always want you,” she whispered
against his neck, kissing him.
He turned around, blushing. “CD! I didn’t know you were
behind me!” He exclaimed. “I, uh..”
“Stop,” she grinned and hugged him, stroking Christina’s hair out of
her face. “Good morning, sunshine, you slept ALL night, didn’t ya?”
she asked as Christina made googoo noises and pulled some of CD’s
hair. “Hey!” She replied loudly. “That hurt!”
Nate laughed. “And I thought you taught her that!”
She shook her head no. “Must have been Isiah!” She grinned.
“Um, hey, Nate?”
“What is it, honey?” he asked.
“I’m supposed to run into the station for a little bit; with Jinny
gone, too, they’re shorthanded, and Kate asked me to come in to do
some paperwork. You alright with the kids while I’m gone?”

CD went into Kate’s office as soon as she got into the Division. “Hey,
Cap, I’m here. What kinda papers you want me working on today?”
Kate looked up. “Hey, CD! Um, I don’t need anything from you
today.”
CD was confused. “What are you talking about? You called me
last night and specifically said that you needed me for....”
“I know what I said, but I lied,” Kate grinned. “I wanted you
for something else.”
“Um, ok,” CD replied. “What is it?”
“I wanted to ask you about you and Nate. Wouldn’t it be great if the
two of you could go away for a couple of days?”
“Um, yeah I guess,” CD said, still very puzzled. “I mean, it
would be great, but there’s no time for us to prepare for something
like that, and we have Isiah and Christina to think....”
“Nope, no need to worry. I’ve taken care of it.”
“Cap, I’m sorry, but I’m VERY confused. What’s going on?”
Kate smiled. “Okay, I know this guy in the hotel business, and
he’s currently at Big Sur. I talked to him about your situation, and
him and I made a deal. You got three days there, all expense paid.”
CD’s jaw dropped. “What? Are you kidding me, Cap?” she asked.
Kate grinned. “Nope! So pack your bags, your room is waiting!”
CD shook her head. “But the kids, we can’t...”
“Don’t worry, drop Isiah and Christina off at the sitter’s, and I
am picking them up as soon as I can get out of here and taking
them either to your house or mine.” She smiled. “Your pick.”
“Cap, I don’t understand, why are you doing this?”
“I want you and your husband to get reaquainted, is that
alright? I want you two to do whatever you feel like doing and not
have to worry about someone walking in on you! This has been
tough on both of you, and you have dealt with it so well. CD, you’ve
done everything for your family the last couple of months, including
giving birth! Don’t ya think you deserve a break?”
CD nodded. “Well, sure, but Nate will probably want to spend
time with the kids.”
“That’s why it’s only for three days. You two can come back and
have four more days to spend with your family. How does that sound?”
“It’s sounds wonderful, Cap, but you really want the kids for
three days?”
Kate smiled. “Of course I do! I haven’t spoiled Christina at all
and I haven’t bought many gifts for Isiah in a long time, either.
The time has come for Grandma Katie to take over for awhile.”
CD laughed. “Okay, well, if you’re sure then, I guess you can
stay wherever you want.” CD handed Kate her house key. “Here’s this;
if you want to stay there, go for it, but if Louis wants to stay at his...”
“Oh, Louis is out of town on business; it’ll just be me and the
kids.”
“Okay, well, Kate, thank you so much, I can never repay you
for this.”
Kate grinned. “Go have fun, CD. That’ll repay me.”

well, since I did just start ANOTHER page, lol, and it was my 500th post on the boards:) , I've decided to give you guys a little more!! :D

CD got back home in a rush and raced through the door. Isiah and
Nate were watching cartoons, and Christina was playing in her
playpen.
“Hey guys, I’m back!” CD announced.
“Hi, Mommy!” Isiah shouted, waving at her, but too involved
in the TV to go over and hug her.
“Hey, baby, you’re back early,” Nate replied.
“Yeah, I know, I’m done for the day.” CD smiled. “Hey, Nate,
can I talk to you in the kitchen for a sec?”
Nate nodded and followed her there. “What’s up?” he asked.
She kissed him fiercely on the lips in response.
“Wow, I like this conversation,” he said, grabbing her middle
and pulling her close.
“Oh, did you like that?” she asked, grinning from ear to ear. “How
would you like it if I said that we could do that all we wanted for
the next three days, interruption-free?”
“Uh, then I’d be scared of you if you said that. What are you
planning to do? Lock our children in their closets?” he joked.
CD laughed. “Nope! Kate got us a room at Big Sur for THREE
days! AND she volunteered to watch the kids for us! Isn’t that great?”
Nate nodded. “Yeah, but why?”
CD explained the situation to Nate swiftly because time was
wasting. He agreed, knowing he’d still get time with his full family,
plus now he could have his wife all to himself.
CD went to the living room to explain to Isiah the plan. At first,
he was really upset because now BOTH of his parents were leaving
him. After she explained that it was only for three days and
Grandma Katie was coming over to stay, he quickly agreed with a
smile on his face.
CD and Nate got everything together in a rush, took the kids to
daycare, and then they were on their way to Big Sur.

Jinny stood up and took care of the blinds. The sun was blazing
through, and they didn’t need to see that right now. She crawled
back into bed, snuggling close to Teddy. “Good morning, hubby,” she
replied, smiling.
They had spent their first night of their honeymoon at Big Sur
and had an 8:15 plane leaving for Hawaii that night.
“Well, good morning, wifey!” Teddy laughed. “How was your
first night as Mrs. Blumenthal?” he asked.
She grinned. “Well, if it has the benefits of every night being like last
night, then I say that this is going to be a wonderful marriage!”
He chuckled. “Well, I’ll try my hardest to give you that EVERY
single night then.”
She murmured into his chest, as she prepared to get some rest,
“Every night, huh? I’ll be holding ya to that, buster.”

Before Nate even had the door shut behind them, CD was already all
over him in a fury to get his clothes off. He didn’t mind one bit, and
they stripped each other together very quickly.
Nate was trying to get his shoes off, so CD could get his jeans off
completely when he lost his balance and tripped. He fell over the
suitcases, pulling CD down with him. They both giggled as they
moved off of them but still stayed on the ground. That was good
enough for them, all their lust cared about was the sex.

them to the park to play. Isiah swung on the swings, while Kate
rocked Christina and gave her a bottle.
“Look at me, Grandma Katie!! I’m flying!” Isiah exclaimed.
“You sure are! Be careful, you might fly away from us!” Kate
smiled, loving to play the role of Grandma.

“Grandma, can we have pizza for supper?” Isiah asked when
they were leaving the park.
“You want pizza again? Whenever I see you, all you want is
pizza!” Kate exclaimed.
“I know, it’s my favorite!” Isiah responded with a grin that no
one could’ve said no to, even the heinous hussy Polly!
“Ok, we can get pizza,” Kate replied, opening the car doors
and putting Christina in her seat.
“Yay!!” Isiah yelled as he put his seatbelt on.

Last night at Big Sur
“You smell good,” Nate whispered into CD’s valley between her
breasts.
“Why thank you,” she moved her breast to act like it was
talking.
Nate laughed. “No, seriously, you smell amazing. What is that?” he
asked.
“Well, it might be my new Bath and Body Works lotion, Warm
Vanilla Sugar.” She smirked devilishly. “Or it might be the scent of
you and me together again.”
He smiled. “Mmmm, I think that’s it,” he murmured through
kisses.
She kissed his forehead and leaned into him. “I don’t ever
want to let this go,” she said sadly.
“Me neither, baby, so let’s don’t.”
“But what about when you go back? Then I’ll be without you
again, and all the pretty girls in the bars over there will flirt with
you, and then you’ll.....”
“Then I’ll say, ‘that’s nice, ladies, but I’m married to the sexiest
woman in the world. None of you could ever suffice; if you saw her in
bed, then you’d understand.’ Then they’d walk away from me,” Nate
explained matter of factly.
CD grinned. “Is that how it really happens?”
Nate shook his head. “No, I usually flash my wedding ring and
show pictures of my family, and then the ladies just want to hear
about you and Isiah. And now they’re gonna ask questions
constantly about little Christina.”
She smiled, knowing that was the truth. He was always so
boastful when it came to his family. “How about we give this bed one
more run around before we leave in the morning?” CD questioned
him.
Nate’s face brightened. “Well, anything that would make you
happy.”
“Just me?” she purred against his chest. “I won’t be able to
please you, too?”
He was already pleased by the look of the pointed sheets. “God,
I’m already there, all I have to do is look at you.” He captured her
mouth and from then on out, she was his.

you!” Jinny exclaimed.
“Ten more minutes, baby, I promise.” Teddy glanced up from
his files, seeing his gorgeous wife in a very provocative pose. He
wanted to just throw the papers down and attack, but he’d been
trying for months to figure this out, and time was again running
out.
“Promise?” she whispered, sliding the sheets back so he could see
what she was wearing.
“Oh, please, YES, ten minutes. Maybe even nine,” Teddy replied
as he quickly read through the file once more.

CD and Nate had finally fallen asleep for about fifteen
minutes, and CD was shivering from her nakedness. Nate noticed,
and threw the blankets up around them and snuggled her close to
him. She murmured a ‘thank you baby’ and rolled over. They both
fell back asleep.
3:13 am
The phone rang, and CD woke up. “Why in the hell is that
alarm clock going off? CD muttered. She pressed the snooze button,
but nothing happened. She finally comprehended that it was the
phone and picked it up. “Kate?” she asked worriedly.

“No, CD, it’s Teddy Blumenthal.”
“Teddy, why are you calling here when you’re supposed to be on
your honeymoon?” CD hollered. “Stop neglecting your wife, and get
off here!”
Teddy smiled at CD’s protectiveness. “I’m not neglecting her too
much, but when I am, it’s for a good purpose.”
“And that good purpose is righteous enough to wake me up at
3:14 in the morning?”
“Yes, CD it is! Listen to me,” Teddy replied.
“Okay, okay, I’m listening,” CD grumbled.
“I found a loophole in Nate’s contract,” Teddy said.
“You, you what?!” CD was wide awake now.
“Yeah, I did! There’s this part about how if you have some kind
of medical condition after you’ve served for so long, you could get a
doctor to write you a leave notice, saying you do actually have it,
and you’re home free! Nate’s time serving meets the criteria!”
“But what medical condition does he have? What doctor would sign
anything for him?”
Teddy smirked. “Ya know anyone from the department sleeping
with a doctor?”
CD grinned. “YES! Remind me to thank Magda someday for
being a slut.”
“You got it,” Teddy laughed.
“But what medical condition? Nate’s pretty healthy.”
“Well, hasn’t he been depressed lately? I mean, he never gets to
see his family or his wife, so he has a very bad case of depression.”
CD grinned. “That could work, Teddy because it’s actually true! I
mean, I wouldn’t go straight to depression, but...” She paused. “Wait,
won’t he have to see a psychologist, too?”
Teddy agreed. “Yes, probably; Magda’s not sleeping with any of
them too is she?”
“Not this week, I don’t think,” CD laughed.
“Don’t worry about it, Nate could talk to the psychologist and
tell the truth and still make it. We’ve got a shot, CD, and we need to
take it. I’ve called Magda’s house, pissed her off because Gabe
answered, so she agreed to convince Jonah as long as I don’t call
anymore at ridiculous times in the morning. I can also get him a
meeting scheduled with a shrink by tomorrow afternoon. I won’t be
there because Jinny, for some reason, won’t let me leave, but I’ll
explain the situation to the shrink when I make the appointment. I
have some who work for me in some of my cases, and they all owe me
favors. Can you guys make it back before noon tomorrow?” Teddy
asked.
“Of course we can, Teddy! Thank you so much for all of this!” CD
exclaimed. “And I’m sorry this is taking time out of your
honeymoon.” She stopped. “Hey, how about I talk to Kate tomorrow
and convince her to give you guys like 3 more days?”
Teddy smiled. “Well, I’m not on her payroll, but it would’ve
been....”
“Don’t worry about it, it’s done. Kate can work her magic and
call in a favor. Listen, call us tomorrow when you get specific times
for appointments or whatever, ok?”
Teddy agreed and both of them hung up.
Nate was stirring and rolled over. “Who were talking to at this
time of the night?” He asked.
“Your guardian angel, honey, so go back to sleep.”

CD called Kate the next morning and explained the situation. Nate
had a 1:15 at the psychologist’s office, and Jonah had already put
in his written papers to get Nate out. CD walked with him up the steps
and into the building but slowly stopped outside the door to the
office. “Honey, are you ready?” she asked him.
He nodded. “Yeah, as much as I’ll ever be. I’m just really
afraid; I mean, I’m lying, CD, so what kind of example am I sending
to my kids?”
“Nate, go in there and tell the truth, you don’t have to lie,” she
explained. “You do miss your family, and it’s hurting you....”
“Baby, all of those guys over there are missing their families, but they
don’t get to leave.”
“We’re talking about YOU, Nate. You can have the opportunity
to get out, so take it! What’s the problem?”
“Nothing, I guess,” Nate shrugged. “I’m just sad that I won’t be
helping people anymore.”
“NATE BASSO!” CD exclaimed. “That’s all you do in your field of
work is help people! We’re cops, dammit! We help someone every day
of our lives!”
He agreed. “Yeah, you’re right.” He paused. “What if the
psychologist doesn’t think it’s severe enough?”
“What if I jump out in front of a bus and get killed?” CD
retorted. “Nate, we can’t play the guessing game, you’ve just got to go
in, try your hardest, and leave. That’s all we can ask for.”
He nodded. “Okay, well then, here goes nothing.” He kissed her
cheek and walked inside the door.
They sat in the waiting area for about ten minutes before Nate was
called back. CD sat in silence, glancing at a magazine and
wondering how it was going. Forty-five minutes went by, and Nate
was still in there. CD went to the sign in desk. “How long does a
session usually last?” she asked the receptionist.
The receptionist looked at Nate’s file. “Well, he hasn’t been here
before, so it usually lasts about forty-five minutes. Don’t worry, Mrs.
Basso, it shouldn’t be too much longer.”
CD nodded and took her seat. Thirty more minutes went by,
but finally Nate came out the door. CD quickly rose, and he nodded
at her and gave a little grin. She smiled back at him, while he
signed a check. They picked up their stuff and hand in hand walked
out of the doctor’s office.

A week later Nate was scheduled to go back to work. He awoke
with morning jitters, but stirred over and reached his hand over to
CD’s side of the bed. It was empty and cold.
CD was in the bathroom hanging over the toilet. She had lost
everything she’d eaten the day before, and she felt like she’d lost
everything for the week. Nate knocked gently on the door.
“CD, are you in there?” he asked.
“Yeah,” she murmured and vomited again.
He opened the door and saw her hair falling into her face. He
ran over and scooped it back. “Let it go, baby,” he whispered and
kissed the back of her neck, rubbing her back as she finished. He
went and got her a cold, wet washcloth. He patted her face and
wiped her mouth as she shut the toliet seat and sat on it.
“Ugh,” she simpley stated as she took the water Nate was
holding out in front of her.
“What’s wrong, honey? Something you ate?”
She shook her head. “I don’t know what it is. I’ve felt weird the
last couple of days.” She stood up. “Probably just a touch of flu,” she
stated and got a towel out. “I’m going to get a quick shower. Can
you get the kids up?”
He nodded and gave her a quick hug. “Yeah, of course, I can.
If you’re sure you’re alright.”
“I’m fine, Nate. Go ahead, I’ll be fine.”
Nate left the room, and CD hopped into the shower. Another
pain of nausea hit her, but she didn’t have time to get to the toilet,
so she just puked down the shower drain. “Aw, hell,” she murmured.
“What’s wrong with me?”

CD and Nate dropped the kids off at the sitter’s, and they went
to work. At the parking lot, the two of them got out. “You ready for
your first day back?” she asked Nate.
“Yeah, just a little nervous,” he replied with an uneasy grin.
“You’re gonna be great, don’t worry.” She smiled and put her
arm around him.
They walked in, and Nate got many welcome backs and hugs.
Kate came out of her office and saw Nate. “Hey, Nate! Welcome back
for good!”
He grinned. “Thanks, Cap.”
“You and CD ready to get started?”
Nate nodded and looked over at where she’d been standing.
She was gone, but he could see her running to the bathroom.
Kate looked after quizzically. “Something she ate?”
“I don’ know, she’s been like that all morning.”
“I’ll go check on her, Nate,” Jinny replied.
“Okay, thanks, Jin.”
Jin nodded and went to the bathroom. CD was vomiting her
guts out. “CD, you going to be alright?”
CD finished and opened the stall door. “Yeah, I’m great.”
“You have a stomach virus or something?”
“I don’t know, I didn’t eat any breakfast this morning because
I could barely make it out of bed fast enough before I puked over
and over.”
“Maybe you should see a doctor,” Jinny suggested.
“Oh, I’m sure it’s nothing. I’m taking some over-the-counter- pills.
They’ll probably help.” She washed off her mouth. “Okay, well, are
you ready to go?”
Jinny nodded. “Yeah, if you’re sure you’re okay.”
“Yep, let’s get back out there.”

CD and Nate had a couple of new cases they worked on all day, and
they left work strictly at five to pick up the kids. The four of them went
straight home. CD started cooking dinner, and Nate got the kids
and table ready.
CD sat down all of the food and went back into the kitchen to
get her glass of tea. All of the smells hit her, and she ran to the
bathroom.
Nate heard her take off, told Isiah to watch Christina, and
hustled after her. He sighed when he saw her leaned over the toilet.
It tore him up inside to see her so sick.
He pulled the front layers of her hair back, while she did her
job. “Dammit,” she murmured as she sat down beside the toilet.
“What the hell’s wrong with me?”
“I don’t know, baby, maybe we should go to the doctor’s
tomorrow.”
She shook her head. “No, I’m sure I’ll be fine.” She paused.
“Where’s the kids?”
“Christina’s in her high chair, and Isiah is talking to her.”
“Go back to them, Nate. I’ll be in a just a little bit.”
He shook his head. “No, I don’t want to leave you.”
“Nate, I’ll be in there in a few minutes, I just need to brush my
teeth really fast.” She gave him an encouraging smile. “Go.”
He reluctantly agreed, holding his hands out for her to grab
on to, to be pulled up from the ground. She went to the sink, while he
went into the dining room to get the kids started.
“Is Mommy ok, Daddy?” Isiah asked.
“Yes, she’ll be fine, Isiah. She’s just a little sick.”
Nate made Isiah’s plate for him and started feeding Christina.
CD moseyed into the room almost ten minutes later, her face even
paler and her eyes bloodshot.
Nate looked up and saw her. “CD, are you okay?” he asked
alarmingly.
She nodded. “Yeah, I’m fine, but I’m REALLY hungry. This food
looks great.”
He grinned. “That’s because you made it.”
“Oh yeah,” she replied, and she’d forgotten.
She ate about two or three bites, and that was all she could handle.
She stopped herself from vomiting, and Nate helped Isiah with his
food. CD picked up Christina and took her to go give her a bath.

After the kids were in bed, Nate and CD were talking in their
own bed. “Honey, I want you at the doctor’s office tomorrow.”
“Nate, I’m sure I’ll be fine. I feel pretty good right now.”
“Yeah, but that’s because you’re not around any strong scents,
and there’s no food in your stomach.”
“I don’t know, you ARE pretty smelly,” she joked and kissed his
cheek. “Baby, I’m fine, it’s just a little sickness, and it’ll pass.” She
yawned. “I’m tired,” she murmured and rolled over facing the wall.
“Okay,” he sighed, knowing he’d lost the battle for now. “I love
you, CD.”
“Love you, too,” she whispered before drifting off.

The next morning started almost the identical to the day
previously. CD was in the bathroom when Nate woke up, and before
he went in there, he dialed her doctor’s number and made her a
morning appointment. He then hustled into the bathroom where CD
was lying on the floor.
“Still sick, baby?”
“Nope, I just like to lay on a dirty bathroom floor for ****s and
giggles.”
He sighed and ignored her sarcasm. “I made you an
appointment with Doctor Newnum at 9.”
She nodded. “I’m too weak to argue today,” she responded.
He helped her up into a sitting position. “I don’t think this is
the flu.”
“Me neither,” she muttered crankily.
“What do you think’s wrong?”
CD sighed. “I don’t know, Nate. I feel so awful, mainly in the
morning, but all day I throw up, and I can’t stand the sight of
food.”
“Maybe you’re pregnant,” he suggested.
She shook her head. “Probably not because my period’s still
regular, and I’m on birth control.”
“That doesn’t mean anything, honey.”
“Not necessarily, but I just don’t think I am.”
“Okay, we’ll just let the doctor help us out.”
CD nodded and stood up, preparing for another day of hell.

At the doctor’s office, Dr. Newnum asked her various questions.
“What are all of your symptoms? Is there any chance you could be
pregnant? You DID forget the Pill one day? Can we have a urine
sample?”
CD answered the questions with Nate by her side, and she went
to the bathroom to give her sample, while leaving another sample in
the toilet. “I can’t even make it two hours without throwing up,” she
muttered angrily and flushed the toilet.
She came back with the sample, the doctor took some blood, and told
her he’d have the results in about four hours. He’d call the house
when he got them and tell them whether or not to come in.
They went home, but CD was too panicky to have the kids
around, so Kate took off a half day and picked them up at the baby
sitter’s. She took them toy shopping and back to her house until CD
called for her to bring them back.
CD cleaned out her closet and dusted some shelves, passing the
time any way she thought possible. Nate paced the rooms, watched
some basketball highlights on ESPN, and ate chocolate bar after
chocolate bar. Finally, at 3:25 pm, the phone rang. CD ran to it and
got it by the second ring. “Hello?” she asked.
“Hi, Mrs. Basso?”
“Yes, is this Doctor Newnum?”
“Yes, it is, and I have your test results. Do you want to come
down, or shall I just read them to you?”
She sighed. “Just read them to me, Doctor.” She paused. “Am I
pregnant?”

pregnant.”
CD blew out a huge sigh of relief. She didn’t think she could
handle two pregnancies so close together.
“However, the blood tests bother me a little. An irregularity is
showing up, but I don’t know where it’s coming from yet. I’d like you
back down here for some Xrays.”
CD looked at Nate frantically. “Oh, alright, when do you want
to do them?”
“You can come in whenever you want, tonight or tomorrow.
The 24 hour crew will take care of you in the ER, and they will send
the results to me. The sooner you get that done, the sooner I can help
you.”
“Okay, Doctor, I’ll be in tonight.”
“Okay,” he replied. “And finally, I’d like you to make an
appointment with either me or another doctor for your yearly check
up.”
She groaned. “Why do I have to get THAT done, if it’s my
blood?”
He smiled. “Mrs. Basso, you haven’t had a mammogram in
almost two years. You’re due; a pap smear wouldn’t hurt anything
either.”
She sighed. “Fine, I’ll just make an appointment with you.”
“Okay,” he replied and told his secretary. The secretary gave
him a time. “Okay, CD, could you come in tomorrow at noon? I
could give you the check up, and then I could have those results and
your Xrays done by tomorrow evening.”
She agreed and hung up the phone. “Well, I was right,” she
replied to Nate.
“About what, honey? You’re not pregnant?”
“Nope,” she answered. “He said that there’s something wrong with my
bloodwork though. He wants to check out my organs, so I have to get
Xrays done tonight in the ER. They’re going to give him the results,
and I have an appointment with him at noon for my yearly check
up.”
“What’ does he do at a yearly check up?” Nate asked, confused.
She grinned. “I have to get a mammogram and pap smear.”
“Oh,” he replied and, his upper lip curled. “You go to a MALE
doctor for that?”
“Not usually, but it’s more convienent this way. I do it, he looks
at the results, and he can also look at the Xrays. He says he can tell
me all of the outcomes tomorrow evening.”
He nodded. “Okay, when do you want to go get the Xrays done
then?”
She looked at her watch. “How about now? I could call Kate
and tell her where we’ll be.”
Nate agreed, and CD called Kate. Kate convinced her that she
was keeping the kids for the night, so Nate and her were supposed to
run over night bags for them.

At the hospital, the ER nurses were surprisingly quick and waited on
CD immediately.The Xrays didn’t take long at all, and before she
knew it, her and Nate were at home curled up on the couch
watching the 10 o clock news.
Nate was drifting off, but CD was wide awake. “Why don’t you
go on to bed, Nate? You’re exhausted.”
He shook his head. “I’m waiting on you,” he replied.
“Fine, we can watch this in there, so you can sleep.”
They went into their bedroom and changed for nighttime. CD
curled up into bed, while Nate flopped in a couple of minutes later.
He wrapped his arm around her. “Ya nervous bout tomorrow?” he
asked her.
“Nah, no reason to be nervous,” she lied. “It’ll be fine.”
He nodded. “Yep, you’ll be great,” he whispered as he fell asleep.

Noon drew nearer slowly. Finally, though, the nurse called
back CD, who had elected to go to the doctor alone. She forced Nate
to go to work, promising she’d be back as soon as possible. She’d
worked the morning hours with him and didn’t puke once, for the
doctor had given her strong nausea pills to take.
She went into the small room and was left alone to peel off her
clothes and put the little paper shirt on. Doctor Newnum came in,
and smiled. “And welcome back, CD, how are you this afternoon?”
“Well, I’ve definitely been better,” CD tried to joke. “No offense,
but I was hoping not to see your face for a long time.”
He laughed. “Most of the people I know say the same thing! I guess I
just don’t have any appeal.”
She opposed. “YOU have appeal, but your job definitely doesn’t.”
“Oh is that it?” he laughed as he got the machine ready.
“Okay, CD, you know the drill.”
She nodded and opened her paper shirt.
“You’re going to feel some discomfort.”
“I know, Doc, I remember.”
He smiled and continued with the procedure. “Have your
breasts been tender lately?” he asked.
She nodded. “Yeah, actually I did notice that the other night
when Nate......” she stopped midsentence and blushed profusely. “Um,
yeah, I’ve noticed.”
He laughed. “Okay, and yes, all I needed was a yes or no, not
an explaination.”
CD’s face turned more colors,and he continued with the
mammogram. After he finished with that, he gave her a quick pap
smear and told her that he would call the house with the results.
“Here’s my cellphone number in case I’m not home. I really
want to know as soon as possible,” CD replied.
“Okay, Mrs. Basso, I’ll call you the very second I make a
diagnosis.”
She nodded, and he left the room, so she could put her clothes back
on.

Back at the Division, Nate was staring into space. He was really
upset at CD for wanting to go alone, but he could understand her
reasoning. She finally walked in at 1:30.
He stood up from his desk and ran to her. “Hey hun, how was
it?”
“It was great, Nate,” she said sarcastically. “Can’t wait to go
again.”
“CD, you know what I mean.”
She sighed. “He’s supposed to call the house or my cell sometime
today. Let’s get to work.”
“But babe, don’t you want to go ho....”
“I want to work, Nate. That’s why I’m here.”
He sighed, knowing he’d lost. “Okay, let’s go then.”
They worked until 5 o’ clock, and Nate refused to work any
overtime. CD was gungho, but he convinced her to go home to the
kids, whom she hadn’t seen in a day.
They got the kids home, had dinner, and the four of them played in
the living room. CD absentmindedly played with Christina and her
dolls while Nate played cars with Isiah. The phone rang at 8:30,
when CD was giving Christina a bath, so she didn’t hear it.
Nate came in the bathroom with the cordless. “Baby, it’s Doctor
Newnum,” he replied.
She looked up at him. “Oh, okay, thanks,” she said and had
him take over bathing her.
Nate wrapped a towel around Christina and held her in his
arms, so he could hold CD’s hand while the doctor talked to her.
CD stared at the phone before finally talking. “Hello?”
“Hello, CD, it’s Doctor Newnum. I have the results of your tests.”
“What’s the verdict, doc?” she asked.
“CD, I don’t know how to say this, and I think you should come
down to my office.”
CD shook her head. “No, I want to know now.”
Doctor Newnum sighed. “Okay, I don’t like telling results over the
phone, but....”
“So tell me now and get it over with!” CD yelled, her hand
tightening in Nate’s.
“CD, I’m sorry......."

Nate looked after her sadly and finished the baby’s bath very

Doctor Newnum slowly explained. “You have a lump in each of
your breasts.”
CD choked up. “Excuse me?!” she asked, although she’d heard him
perfectly. “I have WHAT?”
“Lumps, CD,” Doctor Newnum repeated nicely. “In each of your
breasts.”
CD’s eyes welled up. “Cancerous?” she asked.
“I don’t know yet, that’s why we need to run more tests. I need
to take a sample from each lump to send to the lab.”
“Doctor, what’s the chances of it being harmful?”
“Well, CD, based on my strict opinion, the right breast’s lump is
pretty small, so even if it is cancerous, it should be pretty treatable.”
She nodded. “And the left?”
Doctor Newnum took longer to answer this question. “Uh, well,
the left lump is pretty prominent, and I’m not going to speculate on
that one. Let’s just wait and see what the outcome of the tests are.”
CD wiped her eyes. “Okay, when’s my next appointment?”
“We need to do the tests immediately, so how’s tomorrow, 2:30?
That’s the earliest I can get you in.”
She nodded. “Ok, I’ll be there,” she replied and hung up the phone.
Nate walked in the bedroom just as she threw the phone on the
bed. “What did he say?”
“Where’s Christina? I have to finish giving her a bath,” CD
muttered.
“CD, I took care of her, and she’s in her playpen. Isiah’s in his room,
reading a book, and waiting for us to tuck him in. What did the
doctor say?”
“Oh, not a whole lot. I probably have breast cancer,” she
responded and walked away.

Mommy didn’t mean to use that word towards Daddy.”
“Yes you did,” Isiah softly whispered.
CD sighed. “I was angry, honey, and I’m sorry.”
“Are you still mad at Daddy?”
She shook her head. “No, baby, I was never mad at Daddy.” She
looked at Nate regretfully. “I was mad at myself, and I took it out on
your dad.” She paused. “I’m sorry, Nate,” she replied.
He nodded. “It’s not your fault, baby, I understand.” He
hugged her quickly to show Isiah that nothing was wrong, and then
hugged him, too.
“And I’m sorry to you too, buster,” CD replied and kissed Isiah’s
cheek. “Can you forgive me?”
Isiah grinned. “Uh huh, but don’t let it happen again.”
CD laughed and picked him up to take to bed. “Alright, I’ll try
not to.”
Nate and CD put Isiah to bed, went to the living room to get
Christina, and did the same with her. Snuggling in bed that night,
Nate attempted the subject again. “Baby, can we please talk about
it?”
CD groaned. “Nate, I don’t want to get cranky with you, so
maybe we shouldn’t. I hate myself for not getting regular check upsit’s my own fault for all of this, and I’m.....” She choked, tears
streaming down her face. “I’m scared,” She whispered, burying her
face into his chest.
He stroked the small of her back, kissing her face to make the
tears disappear. “Baby, I know you’re scared, but there’s something
you have to realize.” He pulled her face up, so they were looking into
each other’s eyes. “This is NOT your fault, it’s Mother Nature’s. It’s just
what happens, and we’re not even for sure yet! Maybe it’s normal for
this time of the month.”
She shook her head. “How come I’ve never noticed it before
then?”
He shrugged. “I don’t know, baby.”
She sighed. “I don’t want to think about it right now.” She
kissed his mouth, rough and proving her point. “I want to do THIS
now.” She slipped her arms under the covers to his boxers, attempting
to slide them down.
He moved. “Baby, you don’t really want this, you just want to
keep your mind off tomorrow.”
“So?” she replied and kissed him faster.
“I don’t want to be your distraction, unless you just want to talk
about it.”
“**** that,” she replied, taking her hands back up and
moving her body to her side of the bed. She turned to face the
opposite direction of him, so he wouldn’t see her blushing.
Nate sighed. “Honey, I didn’t mean to make you angry, it’s just
that...”
“It’s fine, Nate, goodnight,” she smarted off.
“Baby, really, I want to apol....”
“Nate, SHUT UP!” she screamed.
“CD, stop it, don’t act like this, you’re going to regret it
when....”
“That does it!” CD shouted. “I’m trying to sleep, can’t you see
that?!” She stood up and picked up her pillow.
“What are you doing?” he asked her.
She answered by ripping the comforter off of the bed. “I’m
going to a room where no one talk’s their ass off when someone’s
ready for rest!” And with that, she was outta there.

throw her purse on her desk, cursing when it fell upside down and

“Trouble at home?” Kate asked concerned.
“Trouble everywhere,” CD spat out and the money was
successfully put back into her purse. “Thanks.”
“You’re welcome,” Kate replied. “Ya wanna talk about it?”
CD shook her head. “Nope, I’ll just sound like the bad guy.”
“Oh, I see,” Kate paused and decided to chance it. “Maybe you
are the bad guy then.”
CD turned to look her dead in the eye. “You bitch!” she shouted.
“You stupid, crazy BITCH!” she sat her purse back down and ran to
the bathroom.
“Dammit,” Kate murmured. “Didn’t go as I’d planned.”
She walked into the restroom. CD was sitting on the sink
counter, bawling her eyes out. “Oh, CD,” she whispered, feeling
horrible. “Honey, I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to push you like that.

CD shook her head. “No, Cap, it’s not your fault. I’m just really
stressed out, I hate my husband, I hate my kids, and I hate myself
for being such a ****ing bitch all the time!”
Kate went to CD and hugged her. “CD, I’m sure it’s not that
bad, you’re exaggerating.”
“I’m NOT exaggerating!” CD still screamed but held close to
Kate. “I’m the worst person in the world.”
“CD, we all have a falling out every once in awhile. Nate’ll
know that,and your kids are young, I’m sure whatever you said,
they’ve already forgotten!”
“I wasn’t mean to them, I just cussed in front of Isiah, but
Nate’s the one who should want to kill me.” CD sighed. “And, frankly,
I don’t give a damn.”
“CD, what’s going on? Why are you all of a sudden bent out of sha...”
She stopped her own sentence and remembered that CD had been to the doctor the day before. “How was your doctor’s visit
yesterday?”
“He already told you?!” CD exploded. “I don’t even know yet,
why did that bastard tell you?!”
Kate looked at CD puzzled. “Um, no one told my anything
about it, CD, I don’t know what you’re talking about. I just wanted
to know how it went!”
“Oh,” CD blushed and grinned. “I’m really putting my foot in
my mouth, aren’t I?”
Kate grinned. “Yeah, seems that way!” She held CD’s hand.
“What happened?”
CD sighed. “I don’t know yet, Cap. I have more tests to be
runned today at 2:30.”
Kate looked at her in concern. “What about the tests or

shouldn’t be out in the field today. I might shoot the first person that
pisses me off.”
Kate laughed. “Okay, yeah, sounds like you’d better stay in the
bullpen.” She stood up. “You ready to get to work then?”
CD nodded. “Yeah, I am, thanks Cap.”
“Anytime, CD. You need me to watch the kids tonight?”
CD shook her head. “No, that’s alright, we can watch them.”
“Okay, but if you need anyone...”
“You’ll be the first one I call, don’t worry,” CD replied, and they
both left the bathroom.
Nate was sitting at his desk, pretending to be busy. He didn’t
look up when CD walked out or even when she stopped right in front
of him.
“Nate,” she spoke, barely audible.
He didn’t flinch but continued with his papers.
“Nate, please look at me,” she said a little louder.
Nate glanced up and quickly looked back down.
“Baby, stop it,” she replied and took his hand. “I’m sorry. I’m
sorry for everything. You know I don’t like to open up all the time.”
Nate stared at her. “You can’t even open up to me? Your own
husband? Then what good am I?” he asked and stood up, trying to
walk away.
She cut him off, and they were now face to face. “Nate, I’m begging
you to forgive me. I need you more than anything in this world
right now,” she murmured, starting to cry. “You’re my support, Nate,
my strength. If I don’t have you....” her voice ventured off, and she
started sobbing.
He shook his head and decided he’d taken it far enough. He
pulled her close in his arms and held her closely. “Honey, it’s over,
don’t worry about it. I’m here now.” He smoothed down her hair and
rocked her back and forth. Jinny and Magda had just walked in,
watching everything, but didn’t say a word.
“But I was so terrible to you last night! I shouldn’t have acted
like a damn preschooler!” she shouted.
“Shh, baby, it’s okay, last night is done, and today is a new
day.”
Her tears ceased, but he continued to rock her. She pulled away from
him after a couple of minutes and stared into his eyes. “Thank you
for understanding,” she whispered and kissed his lips.
He kissed her back. “I love you baby.”
She kissed him again, this time longer and deeper. “Me, too,”
she murmured and gently slipped her tongue into his mouth. She sat
down on her desktop and tugged him close to where he was now
lurking above her. She giggled when he pushed his tongue in, too,
and he stroked his hands across her hips.

my thanksgiving sucked! lol j/k i have a fever and i slept all day and didn't get to go on the internet:( lolbut lunch was pretty good- me and my mom went out to eat

oh ya! forgot to ask for mmmmmmmooooooorrrrrrrreeeeeeee!!!!!!!

here's to everyone who didn't have a good thanksgiving :( and to cat and planet stella, who don't have thanksgiving:( , we all ate plenty for ya!! ;) and if ur sick right now, which a LOT of people are, get better soon!!!!!! :)

and holy crap i finished ALL of my Christmas shopping today, even my Grandma's, which I'm helping her with! Damn I'm good! So since I'm sure everyone's yelling shut the hell up and write, lol, here's some more!!! :D :wave:

She kissed him again, this time longer and deeper. “Me, too,” she
murmured and gently slipped her tongue into his mouth. She sat
down on her desktop and tugged him close to where he was now
lurking above her. She giggled when he pushed his tongue in, too,
and he stroked his hands across her hips.
Kate came out to give Mag and Jin their assignments when the
lovebirds were at their make out peak. She secretly grinned, thankful
towards Nate for being understanding, but exasperated at the fact that they were getting worse than their usual PG-13. “INSPECTORS!”
she exclaimed, walking towards them. Neither of them moved.
“EXCUSE ME!” she shouted and pulled the two of them apart.
Nate looked at her, blushing, while CD couldn’t hide her
satisfied smile.
“If the two of you would clean your slobber off of CD’s desk and
get back to work, I’d be forever grateful,” she sarcastically replied
and walked to Jinny’s desk. “And as for the two of you, homicide on
35th Street. Magda, you and Loverboy take the call. They’re
expecting you.” she turned to Nate. “That’s an order, now go.”
Nate looked at CD, and she nodded. “It’s alright, I’ll be fine.”
He kissed her again and left with Mag.
Kate turned to Jinny. “You stay here and get caught up until
Raina makes it in here.” She glanced at CD. “Is that paperwork
going to get done today, Inspector?”
CD smiled. “Yes, boss, it sure will.”
Kate shook her head. “It better,” she muttered but grinned all
the way back to her office.
CD picked up her work and transported it to Magda’s desk, so
she and Jinny could gab. “Hey, Jin, what’s up?” CD asked. “How’s
marriage?”
Jinny grinned slyly. “It’s the most amazing thing, CD, really. I
mean, Teddy’s even got me thinking about a kid.”
CD’s eyes widened. “Really?! Oh my gosh, that’s great!” she
exclaimed. “Congratulations!”
Jinny shook her head. “Well, no, not yet, but someday,” she
responded. “Someday REAL soon.” She grinned but decided to
question CD. “But what was wrong with the two of you?” she asked.
“You two have a fight?”
CD’s nose turned up. “Not exactly,” she muttered.
“Then what?” Jinny asked, concerned. “You ever go see a
doctor or are you better?”

CD sighed. “Well, I’d have to tell you anyway,” she stated and began
to explain her situation. “So they’re testing the lumps for cancer cells
today at 2:30,” CD finished up.
Jinny sat there dumbfounded. “Oh my gosh, CD, that’s terrible!
Why are you even here? You should be at home, or out with Nate.....”
CD shook her head. “I’d go stir crazy from waiting around,
doing nothing. I got very pissed at Nate last night for trying to force
me to open up to him, and that’s what you saw this morning.”
“So have you made up yet or not?” Jinny joked. “Because I’m sure
that there’s still some confused cops in here right now.”
“Shut up!” CD exclaimed, laughing. “Okay, I admit we
sometimes go a little overboard.”
“HA!” Jinny laughed. “Little?! I’ve never even thought of doing
some of things the two of you do, let alone in plain sight!”
CD smirked. “Not even in your drunk days?”
Jinny face had a shocked look on her face, pretending to be
offended. “Candace DeLorenzo, you bitch!”
CD laughed. “Oops, sorry babe, wrong territory for my mouth?”
“Why, yes it is!” Jinny laughed. “Besides, I’m not accountable
for any of those actions at this time.”
CD snickered. “Oh, alright, well as long as that’s clear.”
Jinny nodded and replied, “Crystal.”

CD pulled into her regular parking spot at the doctor’s office at 2:15.
She was again without Nate, but this time she was accompanied by
Jinny, who didn’t have to pressure the cap too much to let her go
with CD.
CD signed in and waited for her name to be called. At precisely
2:30 a plump old lady called CD back. She motioned for Jinny to
come with her, and they two of them went back into the exam room.
Jinny stepped out to let CD change into a gown, and CD called her
back in when she was situated. Then they sat in the room waiting for
Dr. Newnum.
He arrived shortly and was surprised that his very independent
patient had brought along someone. “Good afternoon, Mrs. Basso,”
he courteously replied.
“Hello, Dr. Newnum,” CD replied and pointed to Jinny. “This is
my good friend, Jin. We work together at the Division.”
He nodded. “No husband again today?” he asked.
She shook her head. “Nope, this is more of a woman thing, and
I just don’t feel comfortable with him here.”
He nodded and understood. “I can sense that, CD, so let’s get this
over as quickly as possible.”

“Okay, Doc,” she murmured and climbed onto the examining table.
He moved the openings of the gown slightly, which was
purposely put on backwards, just to get a sample. He made a
conscious effort to keep her covered as much as possible because he
knew that CD wanted her friend there for moral support, not for
inspection of her body.
He made his injections, and CD winced, grabbing Jinny’s
hand. Jin squeezed back tightly and looked into CD’s eyes, nodding
to her. That nod told CD that everything was going to be okay.
Doctor Newnum finished, and CD closed her gown. “When will
the results be in?” she asked him.
He looked at his notes. “Oh, this test doesn’t take very long, CD.
I will know by tonight probably, but I want you in here so we can
talk face to face. How’s your morning tomorrow?”
She sighed. “Can’t you just tell me over the phone again?” she
pleaded. “I can’t wait until morning if you’re going to know
tonight.”
He nodded. “I understand what you’re saying, but that’s the
best I can do. I’ll get here before my shift tomorrow, and I can talk to you then, but I just can’t do it any earlier.” He glanced at his
schedule. “I have to be at work by 8 am tomorrow, but I can be here
at 7 for you, if you can make it then. Otherwise I have a....”
CD quickly accepted the offer. “No, 7’s good for me.”
He penciled her in. “Okay, I’ll see ya bright and early then,
CD,” he smiled and shook her hand. “Don’t think about the worse
tonight, who knows what these tests will say.”
She nodded. “Yeah, I’m not too worried,” she said as he was
leaving the room. CD grabbed her shirt to put on, while Jinny got
CD’s other things together.
“Liar,” Jinny remarked.
“Shut up,” CD grinned. “Okay, so I’m a little nervous.”
Jinny smiled. “With good reason!” she exclaimed. “I don’t know what I would do if I was in your position.”
“Be a bitch to everyone like I’ve been?” CD asked.
Jinny laughed. “Yeah, that’s how I’d be! EXACTLY!” They both
laughed and opened the door to go out. Jinny closed it and turned to face CD.
“What is it?” CD asked.
Jinny sighed. “I just want you to know that I’m here for you,
whatever the results. If it’s bad, we’ll get you through it. ALL of us,
even Teddy will help get you through this. If it’s good, Teddy and I
will personally watch your kids for a weekend and you and Nate will
be left solely alone for 3 whole days!” Jinny hugged her. “Hell, I’ll
even throw in a bottle of champagne!”
CD laughed but squeezed her tightly. “Deal,” she murmured,
not wanting her tears to expose themselves. “I’m holding you to
that,” CD replied.
Jinny nodded. “You can count on it, CD.”

The next morning could not have came fast enough. CD was ready to
go at 5:30, not getting any sleep, and Nate finally agreed at 6:10
that they would go drop the kids off at the sitter’s.
They were in the waiting area of Dr. Newnum’s office at 6:30,
CD walking back and forth and Nate staring at a magazine.
“Babe, sit down, you’re making me nervous,” he replied.
“Making WHO nervous?” she bickered. “You’re not the one with
the lumps in your breasts.”
He sighed. “CD, let’s just keep it easy, we don’t know the res.....”
“Nate, I’ve heard this crap millions of times from you, and I
don’t want to talk about it,” she remarked but sat back down beside
him.
“Thank you,” he said and put his arm around her.
She didn’t say a word but snuggled next to that arm to wait
for a sign from the Dr.’s presence.

He emerged from his office five minutes later and called them
back. He hung the Xrays up and put her file in front of himself, as CD
and Nate took a seat.
“Well, Doc, tell me the bad news,” CD replied.
“CD, you don’t know it’s bad news, let him speak,” Nate
responded.
Dr. Newnum shook his head. “I’m afraid it IS bad news,” he
answered. “CD, let’s take a look at these Xrays, and I’ll explain.” He
pointed to the one of her right breast. “The lump on your right breast
is indeed not cancerous, however, I would strongly recommend you
get it removed, so it doesn’t turn into it.”
CD nodded. “Okay, I’ll get that done as soon as possible then.”
She paused. “And the left one?”
Dr. Newnum sighed. “CD, I’m sorry. You do have breast cancer in
your left. It’s very prominent, and I would like to operate as soon as
possible.”
CD sat there shocked, although she figured that that was going
to be the outcome.
Nate spoke for her. “What kind of operation? Just remove the
lump?”
Dr. Newnum shook his head. “I’m afraid not, Nate. The lump
has taken over a big part of her breast, and I’m very concerned that
the cancer will spread to her lymph nodes under her arm. I’m going
to have to do a mastectomy.”
“A, a what?!” CD exasperated. “You mean I have to lose it?!”

The doctor nodded. “I’m sorry, CD, but that’s the only way I see it.”
“Well I need to get a second opinion then,” CD replied.
“I always encourage second opinions, however in your case, I
would venture to say that any doctor you go to will say the exact
same thing.”
Nate interlaced his hand with CD and looked at her. “What do
you want to do, baby?” he asked her.
She sighed. “I don’t want to lose it, Doc, I’ll be deformed!” she
exclaimed. “What about radiation?” she hopefully asked the doctor.
“We could try radiation if that’s what you wanted, but I don’t
think it would do any good.”
“I want to know my options for that,” she repeated.
The doctor pulled out a brochure. “Okay, CD, what I would do is
remove the lump from your breast. I would put an implant in there,
so you would look like you have a normal functioning breast. Then
you would come here and take radiation shots twice a week for four
months. I would have to make frequent check ups on the implant,
and that would also increase your chances of getting breast cancer
again.”
CD looked at Nate. “What should I do?” she asked him.
He shook his head. “You don’t have to decide this right now,
does she?” he looked at the doctor. “Can we go home and discuss it?”
The doctor nodded. “Yes, I would suggest that. I do need to
know as soon as possible because that has to be taken care of
immediately, and my scheduling is pretty packed.”
CD nodded. “Okay, can we leave a message with your secretary
sometime today?”
“Yes, of course.” The doctor stood up. “CD, Nate, I’m really sorry
about all of this.”
Nate shook his hand and nodded. “Thank you Doctor.”
CD shook her head in agreement, stood and walked out the door,
straight to the car.
“CD, wait up!” Nate called behind her.
She was in the passenger side of the car when Nate got to it.
Tears were falling down her cheeks, and she was looking out the
window.
“Oh, baby, come here,” Nate replied and tried to hug her.
“Please don’t touch me right now, Nate, I’ll burst,” she
responded, pulling as far away from him as possible.
He sighed. “Okay, I’m sorry.”
They rode back to the house in silence, except for Nate calling
Kate and asking her to pick up the kids after she got off of work.

They got back home and CD went straight to the bedroom. She
laid down on the bed and let it all out.
Nate soon came in and rested down beside her. He brought her
into his arms and rocked her back and forth. She turned to face him
and looked into his eyes. “I’m so scared, Nate,” she whispered.
“I know, baby, I am, too.” He kissed her forehead. “We’re going to get
through this, whatever operation you decide to do.”
“Nate, I’m going to be some kind of freakshow if I get the
mastectomy. I mean, let’s be reasonable here, I’m going to look
weird, and you won’t find me.................desirable anymore,” she
murmured and looked away from him, embarrassed.
Nate sighed and pressed his forefinger under her chin, bringing her
eyes back onto him. “Candace Basso, you could have every limb of
yours removed and half a face, and I would still say you were the
sexiest woman in the world.” He kissed her again. “Honey, I don’t
care what this operation makes you look like, you’re beautiful. I will
still want you, and I will still me madly in love with you.”

I need you to be healthy, so whatever you choose, I’m behind you all
the way.”
She nodded. “Thank you for all of that, and I feel the same
way.” She paused. “Then I guess I know what I need to do.”
“Mastectomy?” he asked her.
She nodded. “Yes, it’s the one with the smallest chances of
having breast cancer again. I need to live to see my children grow
up and to see you grow up someday.” She smirked and kissed him.
“Just kidding,” she smiled and hugged him close to her. “I want you
to be in my life forever, and I want forever to be a long time.”
“Me, too, sweety,” he responded. “You want me to go make the call?”
“That’ll be fine,” she replied and sat up from the bed. “I’m
going to go make myself some tea, you want any?”
“Sure,” he answered, kissing her once more before going into
the other room.
CD walked into the kitchen and poured herself and Nate a cup
of tea. He soon joined her at the table. “I made the appointment, it’s
this Thursday,” he replied.
“Wow, two days,” CD sighed. “That’s pretty quick.”
He nodded. “They wanted it done as soon as possible, and
that’s the fastest they can get you in.”
“It’s soon enough,” she replied.
The two of them sat silently, and finally Nate spoke up. “So now
what do we do?” he asked her worriedly.
She grinned at his concern. “Pick up the kids?” she suggested.
“Invite Kate over for dinner and tell her?”
He nodded. “Sounds like a plan,” he agreed. “I’ll get the kids, you
call Kate,” he said as he stood up and went to find his coat.
CD met him at the front door when he was ready to go. She
kissed him quickly, but he kissed her back for more.
“I love you,” he replied.
“I love you, too,” CD said as she opened the door for him.
“Thanks,” he responded and ran out to the car. “I’ll be back
soon, baby!” he exclaimed.
She grinned and watched him drive away. She walked back in
and picked up the phone.
A familiar voice answered on another side of town.
“McKafferty.”
“Hi,” CD replied. “What’s going on downtown, got a lot of new
cases?” she asked.
“Hi CD,” Kate responded. “Oh, there’s a couple new cases, but
nothing too big. What did you find out at the doctor’s office?”
CD sighed. “Um, well, it’s not the best news, but it’ll do,” she
said. “You busy tonight?” she asked Kate.
“Nope, you need me to watch the kids?”
“No, I want you to come over for dinner,” CD responded.
Kate grinned. “Oh, sure!” she exclaimed. “That would be great!
What should I bring?”
“Nothing,” CD replied. “I’m taking care of it, we just want you
here.”
“I refuse, if you’re sick, you’re not making dinner,” Kate
retorted. “I’ll bring something, what do you want me to pick up after
my shift? Pizza? Chinese?”
CD grinned. “Cap, NO! You’re bringing yourself, and that’s it!
And you know that Nate won’t let me do anything, so as soon as he
gets home, I’m sure he’ll force me to rest.”
Kate smiled. “Good, you need to take a nap and be strong. You
sure you’re not going to tell me now what the results were?”
“No, Kate, I’ll tell you here, not while you’re still at work.”
Kate nodded. “Fair enough,” she replied. “Okay, well, I’ll see ya
soon.”
“Okay, bye,” CD responded and hung up the phone.

That night after dinner, CD and Kate sat down for a talk while Nate
got the kids ready for bed. CD explained everything to her, and Kate
actually couldn’t hold back her tears. Her and CD sat silently for
awhile, holding each other and comforting one another.
Finally, CD spoke. “So the surgery is Thursday,” CD explained. “I’ll be
off for a couple of weeks, but I’ll be back as soon as I can, I promise.”
“CD, it doesn’t matter to me how much time you take off, it
matters that you get better. That’s all I care about.”
CD smiled. “Thanks, Kate, I appreciate that.”
“I know you do, CD,” Kate responded. “You want me to watch
Isiah and Christina for like a week or so after the surgery?”
CD grinned. “You’re too much, Cap,” she replied. “No, you don’t
have to take them for that long, Nate can handle them while I
recover.”
Kate shook her head. “No, that’s not going to happen, Nate’ll
have his hands full worrying about you. Let me take them.”
“Let’s just see what happens after Thursday, but I would love it
if you could watch them Thursday night.”
Kate nodded. “Of course I will, not a problem.”
CD and Kate finished talking, and Kate left soon after. CD went and
kissed her kids good night and went to go look for her husband. She
found him in their bedroom, lying in bed. Candles were placed
around the room and rose petals were romantically arranged.
“Nate, what is all of this?” she asked him suspiciously while a
grin formed in the creases of her lips.
He smiled. “I hope it’s okay,” he replied slowly, not wanting to
upset her.
She smiled back. “It’s perfect,” she told him, “but why did you
do it?”
“I know you’re having a rough time,” he paused and put a
finger up to shush her from denying it, “and tonight I wanted it to
be your night. I want you to feel alive.”

CD lie in the hospital bed Thursday morning right before her
surgery. She’d talked to Jinny and Teddy, Magda and Raina, and
her kids before the doctor gave her anesthesia. Kate came in after
her shot, and she was still herself when she talked to her. Finally,
Nate got to come in and talk to her.
“You’ll do the right thing, won’t you? I mean, if something goes
wrong, I don’t want to be kept alive on any machine.”
“CD, I don’t want to talk about that, you’re going to be fine.”
“Just in case though,” CD responded while her eyes fluttered
open and shut, trying to fight off the drugs.
“I love you baby, and I’ll be out in the waiting room fighting
off everyone else for the first kiss.”
She grinned. “I’ll make sure the one who gets it then....” She
promised as she wandered of to sleep.
He kissed her forehead and then her lips and left the room to
join everyone else.
Kate told all of her inspectors to go back to work, so Magda and
Raina dropped Christina off at the sitter’s because Nate didn’t think
she could sit for so long at the hospital. Isiah refused to leave his
mommy, so he stayed, and Jinny refused to leave her best friend, so
Kate gave in to her. Teddy stayed for moral support for his wife and
best friend.
The surgery was supposed to take around four hours, and after
3 1/2, Isiah was getting antsy.
“Daddy, I’m hungry,” he whined.
“Isiah, you can wait till the doctor comes out to tell us the
news,” Nate absentmindedly replied.
“No I can’t, he’ll take forever. I want food now.”
“I don’t have time to get you anything!” Nate shouted and
immediately closed his eyes. “Isiah, I’m sorry, I’m just a little stressed
right now.”
Isiah nodded. “I’m sorry Daddy, I can wait.”
Teddy could see the hurt in Isiah’s eyes and knew he needed to be
told from someone else that Daddy loved him. “Isiah, come on, I’ll
take you down there, so Dad can wait for Mommy, okay?”
“Can I Daddy?” he asked Nate.
“Yeah, of course you can,” Nate said as he dug out his wallet.
“No, it’s on me, we’re fine,” Teddy announced and took Isiah’s
hand. “Let’s go, partner,” he replied sweetly to the little boy, and they
walked down the steps to the cafeteria.
Jinny smiled as she watched her husband take care of Isiah,
and she couldn’t help but think to the future.
“What in the hell’s taking them so damn long?” Nate muttered as he
sat back down.”
“They said it would take 4 hours, Nate, it hasn’t been that long
yet,” Kate explained.
“It seems like years,” Nate replied.
Kate took a hold of his hand. “I know,” she simply stated, and
they sat like that for awhile, waiting.

Thirty minutes later, Jinny looked towards the opening door. “Nate,”
she said, “CD’s surgeon just came out.”
Nate turned around and saw him, so he ran to him. “Doctor, is
she okay?”
The surgeon grinned. “Actually, she’s a lot better than we
expected. When we started our cutting we noticed something that we
need to discuss with you before we’re finished.”
Nate’s eyes closed. “What is it?” he asked. “Please tell me she’s
okay,” he begged.
“Mr. Basso, CD is doing great right now, but she’s still under
because we’re not finished. I made an incision in her left breast,
and we determined that the cancer isn’t as prominent as it showed
up on the Xrays.”
“What does that mean?” Nate asked.
“It means that we don’t have to do a full mastectomy, unless
you tell us to go ahead and do it.”
“What?!” Nate exclaimed as the others from the waiting room turned
to see what was going on. “She doesn’t need it?”
The doctor shook his head. “The risks of her cancer coming
back in the breast would be 0 if she had a mastectomy, but I know
she really didn’t want one. We’ve taken the cancer out already, but
we haven’t removed her entire breast yet. You have the decision to
say yes or no, Mr. Basso because you’re listed on her insurance to
give such clarification. And to answer your question, in my medical
opinion, no, she doesn’t need it.”
Nate smiled and drew in a sigh of relief. “I trust you, Doctor. I
don’t want it done then. Sew her up, and let me go in.”
The surgeon grinned. “You got it, Mr. Basso,” he agreed and
shook Nate’s hand. He briskly walked back into his operating room.
Nate turned to his friends.
“What happened, Nate, is she okay?” Kate asked worriedly as
everyone else sat there silently.
“She’s great,” Nate remarked and hugged Kate. “She’s just great.”
