Yes, that's one of the main focuses of it. Their's is beyond Extreme as unlike the other extreme attractions, they don't have a safe word.

I like this one because you get a more personal look at the creators, and actors. And what they go through to prepare each year.

I saw a news piece on that place some years back. It's like a step or two below Hostel-type ****.

Yes! Some of the stuff they showed looked like waterboarding, they show people passing out, go into seizures, and the workers keep going and the owner just films and laughs. He tells his workers if someone throws up, to either rub it in their face or feed it to them. He's gotten death threats. Amazingly some of the people they showed getting humiliated end up working there.
It has a super long waiting list, the owner screens patrons to make sure they are fit enough, though they did have one person have a heart attack.

The movie sticks fairly close until the ending, and I must say I agree with director Dan Curtis, the book doesn't have a good ending, almost a non-ending. Return to Paradise (1998) on DVD

Three American strangers meet up in Malaysia and are living the life of smoking hash and screwing women. Two of them then decide to go back home and one chooses to stay behind.

Two-years later the guys are approached by the attorney of the man who stayed behind and learn that after they left the authorities found their hash stash and he is due to be executed in eight days. Drug-related crimes are treated very seriously by the Malaysian gov't and he will be executed since the amount of drugs discovered are classified as "trafficking"; a crime punishable by death.

The two men are told that their friend will not be executed if one or both of them return to Malaysia to accept responsibility, but they would have to spend 3-6 years in a third-world prison. They struggle with what to do as both of them have left their "partying" lifestyle behind and now have stable jobs and families.

The Tourist (2010) on Blu-ray

An international romantic spy thriller about a female agent being followed by Scotland Yard and organized crime organizations. Her lover, who stole a lot of money from gangsters, has disappeared and has allegedly changed his appearance via-plastic surgery.

She selects a random man, a mathematics professor from Wisconsin, to throw them all off by making them think he's her lover. They wind up falling for each other as the professor gets unwittingly involved in international espionage.

It's alright; not a film to be taken seriously. It has a lot of Bond references as the cast features Timothy Dalton and Steven Berkoff.

Unbreakable (2000) on DVD

A man born with Type I osteogenesis imperfecta, who's obsessed with comics, spends his life looking for "his opposite". He figures that if he's highly frail then there must be somebody out there with perfect health and the ability to withstand almost anything.

He hears about a train derailment where a security guard was the lone survivor of 131 passengers and tries to convince him that he's a superhero.

* This was director M. Night Shyamalan's next film following the mega-hit The Sixth Sense and it wasn't as successful. M. Night had wanted to do a sequel for many years, but it never happened.

Bruce Willis appeared as Unbreakable's David Dunn at the end of Split (2016) and now M. Night is working on a combined sequel called Glass.

A man wakes up from a week-long coma and finds out his wife was killed in a car crash where he was the driver. 2-days prior to this, a famous singer is found murdered.

He tries to get his life back together but struggles to remember what really happened and is haunted by visions of his deceased wife. Since he has a history of stalking, the authorities think he's responsible for the singer's murder and he tries to find out what's going on.

I usually enjoy Colin Firth, but this film just didn't do it for me.

Puppet Master 5 (1994) on Blu-ray

I watched it w/ director Jeff Burr's commentary where he basically talked about what it was like working with actors he idolized when he was younger on making this movie.

Ian Ogilvy:

Burr said he knew Ian from "Return of the Saint" and said that he's a very versatile actor w/ experience on stage, film, and TV and that it's a shame he's not that well known.

Diane McBain:

Burr said he admired her '60s work on "Surfside 6" and it was great to cast her in a small part. He said that she joked that she had "better catering on sets in the '60s" while on Full Moon's set here.

Ron O'Neal:

Burr said he liked him from Superfly and said that Ron was really upset that he was never quite accepted as a blaxploitation star.

Burr said he also loved his small part in Red Dawn.

Clu Gulager:

He casted Clu in a very small cameo and was happy to have "one of the legendary Gulager's" in his movie.

Duane Whitaker:

Burr said he likes character actor Duane from Pulp Fiction and that he had casted him in Leatherface: TCM III. Said it's a shame that character actors like him aren't really recognized for their talent.

Really enjoyed this one. Very unique. They did a really good job of making it look like it was shot in the 80's. An almost surreal creepy vibe about it. The film's score had a great 80's sound.

Curse of the Puppet Master (1998) on Blu-ray

I watched it w/ director David DeCoteau's audio commentary. He really didn't explain much about making the actual movie.

He went into how the changing home media (VHS to DVD) in the late 1990s were affecting Full Moon. He said he was inspired by Ssssss and Tourist Trap in making this movie.

He was going to explain why young actor Michael Guerin is no longer in the business but said it was "very tragic" and he didn't want the commentary to be a "Debbie Downer" and wouldn't say more. I hate being teased like that and tried looking for more info. online but couldn't find anything.

Retro Puppet Master (1999) on Blu-ray

I watched it w/ the audio commentary featuring director David DeCoteau and actor Greg Sestero (now known for the cult film The Room).

Sestero talked about what his first starring role in a feature film was like and David DeCoteau joked saying he looked like Sharon Stone from Basic Instinct and Loni Anderson.

Sestero recalled a stalking incident on the Retro PM set where a midget woman working in the camera dept. found her way into his dressing room and laid on his bed waiting for him to get back. He said that most of the Romanian crew spoke no English and that he was very friendly and talked w/ everyone on the set. This woman must have gotten the wrong message and would follow Sestero around all day and waited for him in his dressing room. He said that she sounded like the Chucky doll and wasn't turned on at all.

Of course The Room was mentioned and Sestero said that he was living w/ Tommy Wiseau at the time of filming and he stayed back while Sestero went to Romania to shoot. DeCoteau recalled Sestero talking to his "weird French roommate" all the time and Sestero mentioned that his role in Retro got him the part in The Room.

Tommy Wiseau loved Sestero's part in Retro PM and said it was "like Hamlet" and casted him for the movie. Sestero recalled the transition from Retro to The Room as "very surreal" and said that he talked more about it in his book The Disaster Artist.

The bodies don't stop dropping until the final shattering conclusion. Who - or what - is the intruder? One thing is for certain: it will not stop until it kills them all.

Yvonne De Carlo, Mickey Rooney, Ted Cassidy.

The story behind the release of the film is more interesting than the film itself. In 2012, Exhumed Films/Garagehouse Pictures founder Harry Guerro bought 200 film cans sight-unseen that were discovered in a storage room out in the Mojave desert. Sadly most of the films were damaged beyond saving, but a few were in good condition, and were considered lost films. The Intruder never received any kind of release neither theatrically or home media until the Blu. Guerro is also releasing other lost films found in that collection including a 1984 martial arts comedy titled Ninja Busters.

As for The Intruder itself - Dull, uninteresting characters, the film drags. About the only exciting part is the badly choreographed martial arts fight scene.

The third, and final, Tales from the Crypt feature film is based on the 1943 film I Walked with a Zombie.

A doctor who had her medical license suspended due to the death of a patient takes on the job of a live-in nurse at a Jamaican estate. The patient is a young man apparently suffering from encephalitis, but believes he "is a zombie" according to the local voodoo lore.

She is determined to get to the bottom of his condition, but then starts to experience hallucinations and other bizarre incidents similar to her patient.

Ritual was originally set for theatrical release in 2002, but due to the theatrical failure of Bordello of Blood, it didn't happen. The film was released internationally, but as a stand-alone film as all references to Tales from the Crypt were omitted.

The U.S. release didn't come until 2006 when HBO quietly put it out direct-to-DVD with The Crypt Keeper's intro/outro segments.

Stop-Loss (2008) on DVD

The film focuses on a group of young soldiers, who've been friends since childhood, going through PTSD after coming home from the Iraq War.

One of them is stop-lossed, a policy that forces soldiers to remain on duty after original discharge date, and decides to go AWOL.

My daughter and I just got done watching these two, she hadn't seen All Hallow's Eve yet. Art the Clown (who is in both All Hallows Eve and Terrifier) is easily the creepiest clown I've seen in a horror film.

A young woman inherits an isolated house from her family she doesn't know since she was adopted. She goes to the property w/ some of her friends and troubling repressed memories from her past come back to haunt her.

Gotta love misleading covers. One of my favorites is the DVD cover for the 1970's horror film Cathy's Curse. If someone blind bought this, not knowing anything about the movie, boy would they be disappointed when they find out this lady is not in the movie, and the movie itself is about a little girl who becomes possessed by her doll.

The Disaster Artist (2017) on Blu-ray

The film goes into the unlikely friendship of aspiring filmmakers/actors Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero (played by brothers James and Dave Franco in their first project working together).

They would go on to make The Room (2003), which is said to be one of the worst movies ever made and has since gained a cult following due to its unintentional hilarious scenes and Wiseau's bizarre antics.

James Franco did an excellent job as the eccentric Tommy Wiseau and played the part so well that I honestly thought it was Wiseau himself for a few times.

I went to see Best F(r)iends: Vol. 1 (2017) over at the Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn. Greg Sestero was there for a Q&A session and signed autographs after the film.

Very cool dude, he signed all of my items. When I gave him the Retro Puppet Master sleeve he took it show his agent sitting nearby. The agent laughed and said "Oh My God, not that," and he turned to me and said, "Here's the guy who found me this part."

At the Q&A he said that Vol. 2 will be coming out in June and that they didn't envision it being a 2-parter while they were making it. They decided to do it after test audiences found it to be too long.
