So far I have seen only a few tv themes 25 years or more. Most of the readers must be young. I did like Car 54. Many black and white series had wonderful opening and closing credits sung to music. I know the show wasn't much,it was a color show, but I liked My mother The Car theme. Sad to say many new show have given up opening credits for it cuts into the shows time. Fraiser I see has the actors names shown as the first word of show is said. Olden days you had 3-4 minutes of commerial. Now it is close to 7 minutes. The ending credits, much of the time now, you see split screen and an announcer telling the the upcoming news story. It's not the black and white tv days. The Warner Brothers Shows, now seen on the goodtv network have some catchy opening and closing themes and every so often I heard a old new show on tv land. The new generation I suppose gets tired week after week of seeing the same opening. But for video tapers like me I like them.

Without a doubt, Silver Spoons (both ballad and up-tempo versions) is my favorite TV theme. When it was briefly re-run on N@N, I got hooked on the tune all over again. It's a great tune, I like the ending chorus the best. My runners-up are:

Welcome Back Kotter---Nice laid back tune.
Perfect Strangers---I too, like the harmonica part.
Family Matters---I downloaded the complete theme song, as the TV stations play a condensed version.
Gimme a Break (first version)---Just a great, bouncy, fun tune.
Sanford and Son---Probably one of the best instrumental themes I've ever heard.

Mine is the facts of life since its my favorite show. I also love growing pains theme too.

So yeah, the Facts of Life is my favorite theme--with LYRICS. The lyrics make so much sense to me, you think that something is just some innocuous words that make you feel good when you hum along to 'em, then you start thinking about what the show means.

But the coolest t.v. theme song WITHOUT LYRICS--all instrumental, would be--JONNY QUEST!!!!

I grew up watching that show ever since I was a little kid back in the 60's. That show had everything--and that theme song just gives you CHILLS when you hear it--and that beat was just so killer!!!!!:cool: You just don't get jumpin' tunes like that on t.v. anymore.

My all time favorite theme song is from "Late Night with David Letterman" when he was on NBC.

It's the same song they play now but it was done as a rock song, different from the current arrangement. And they had the smaller band - no horns. Just Paul on keyboards, Anton on drums, Will on bass and Sid on guitar.

Somewhere in my stuff is a VHS tape of TV show opening themes recorded over several years in the late 1980's. It's got current shows (then) and some in syndication at the time. I need to dig it out and play it again. It's at leats an hour of themes back to back.

My vote goes for the most, IMHO, convoluted theme. "F-Troop"! Take into consideration the following lyrics. Try to find a longer, more convoluted premise.

The end of the civil war was near and quite accidentally,
A Hero who sneezed, abruptly seized retreat and reversed it,
To Victory.

His medal of Honor pleased and thrilled his proud little family
group,
While pinning it on, some blood was spilled and so it was planned he'd command,
F-Troop!

Where Idian fights are colorful sights and,
Nobody takes a lickin'
Where paleface and redskin both turn chicken

When drilling and figthing get them down,
They know their morale can't droop.
As long as they all relax in town before they resume,
With a bang and a boom...F-Troop!

...It starts out with the story of Wilton Parmenter, then cascades into the habits of everyone at ol' fort Courage.
One could argue there are other, longer and more convoluted themes in their original form ie: "Hogan's Heroes" or "Bewitched" which had truly awful lyric include versions,but I've never found one as long as F-troop.:wave:

Music is something that changes over time. The moment you listen an excellant song you keep on listening untill you get bored. But... Yes their are some songs that will last for a long time. My favorite songs is THE SIGN by Ace of Base. Its a great song. Every time I listen this I feel energetic.

I love the old sitcoms theme songs because they used original music, and the lyrics actually told you what the show was about. Examples of just a few of my many favorites: Green Acres, Beverly Hillbillies, Petticoat Junction, My Mother the Car, Mr Ed, Gilligan's Island, The Addams Family, The Mighty Hercules, Car 54 Where Are You?, Beanie & Cecil, The Jetsons. Wow! So many of them. . . . The more you think of, the more you remember!

Apparently, the site has a poll running for favorite theme song- looks like the theme songs for Cheers, Laverne & Shirley, Gilligan's Island, The Andy Griffith Show, M*A*S*H, The Monkees, The Jeffersons, and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air are the top runners right now.

I love the theme music for The Young & The Restless. It is so depressing, but I love it.
