The Golden Girls for me, too, just for sentimental reasons. I felt it really encapsulated the premise of the show perfectly! :)

i almost hate myself for it but I like the most original theme song from The Brady Bunch sung by Peppermint Trolley. The lyrics are not what I like but the way they are sung. The tune and the voices were just so 1960s TV.

I also like the tune that plays at the beginning of The Captain Kangaroo show.
I can hear everyone laughing at me.

Of course there are other theme songs or tunes I like. I will post when I think of them.

For an instrumental it's Too Close For Comfort all the way! Bewitched in 2nd. But for non-sitcoms Airwolf & the original MacGyver had the best theme songs. For soaps it's Dallas & no one else is even close.

For regular theme songs I like Alice, the Jeffersons, & Gilligan's Island.

Even though I hate the show, I would have to say the Gimme a Break theme is definitely among my favorites. I also love the WKRP in Cincinnati, Sabrina the Teenage Witch (all themes), Alice (mostly the first and last version), Taxi, and Cheers theme songs.

The big band version of the 3rd Rock from the Sun theme song, which was performed by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Sadly, they only used it for season 5 only, which sucks because the band did really good with the theme song and the incidental music.

I have three: "Route 66" theme by Nelson Riddle (personally, I believe this one to be the best TV theme song of all time!); second, the "Theme from Star Trek", by Alexander Courage (1966-1969 TV series).

My third is the theme song from, "Lassie" --- specifically, the opening and closing themes that began in the fifth season of "Lassie", by Les Baxter. It's simply titled, "Lassie Main & End Title". The whistling you hear in the theme song was by Muzzy Marcellino. No other TV theme song brings tears to my eyes and touches my heart like this one!

"Another World Theme" by Charles Paul, a sweeping, beautiful composition with lush instrumentation and sweeping melody featuring the organ, and a full orchestra and celeste solo during the mid-section. The China Beach theme, "Reflections" too.

Iam pretty sure that not every TV theme song was released as a single or from an album. But if you take the ones that were the "Lavern and Shirley" theme song could be near the top.

Now Iam talking about original songs that were recorded around the time that the TV séries began. Yes, alot of TV shows used classic songs for their theme music, but it's those original songs that interest me the most.
