Pavan, I've just registered today to ask if Warner Bros. sees putting "Valerie" on DVD? There was only 10 episodes in its first season (it started as a mid-season replacement) and this would be a great "test" to see if there is enough of an audience to bring the remaining five seasons. Warner Bros. can bypass any "best of" for a "first season, 10-episode (hopefully with extras)" release.

They could have done the same thing with Perfect Strangers (6 ep first season) but they still decided to do best of,

1. I hope this is true
2. I hope it sells so well that we could see season 3 in time for Christmas as well

Interesting. Impressions, if you could email me this it would be helpful. I'd like to do a story for it on the blog, and of course your site would be the source of all this.

I had heard that 2006 would be the year for FOL. Now let's hope Silver Spoons follows!

today is definately my day

FOL and Ally McBeal have both been announced on DVD, those were two of my absolute most-wanted shows and then I hear about them on the same day. Gimme A Break was also really high on my most-wanted list and we all know that's coming in a few weeks

Now all I need to hear is that One Day At A Time is coming and my life will be complete. I'm also hoping music rights won't hurt Supernatural's chance for a DVD in the fall, I figure they could release it around September before the new season starts the way Warner Bros. has been releasing the previous season of Smallville, One Tree Hill, The OC and Gilmore Girls in time for the new seasons now that they're all caught up to the most recent season. I just have a fear that music rights are gonna hurt Supernatural since each episode has a lot of classic rock music in it.

May or June I hear for Ally and maybe Boston Legal.

I am surprised Boston Legal is coming out before The Practice, since it's a spinoff.

I just hope a lot of the music is retained on Ally, all of the Vonda Shepard songs really gave the show it's feel. Luckily that is a show that started out at it's peak and then slowly declined each season, so if Fox stops at season 1, I do know I have the best of the show in my collection, but the show stayed watchable until the last season, when it really crashed and burned.

If FOL is coming out in June, I wonder if this means we might also see a faster break between season 2 and 3 of DS, because it kinda makes sense to release season 3 of DS and 1 and 2 of FOL at the same time since both coincide with the 1980-1981 season and there's crossovers with both shows that season.

I'm glad that FOL is coming, although I'm not a big fan. I'm hoping it will speed up a release of Silver Spoons. I may get FOL down the road but I'm more happy in its relation to Silver Spoons.

Glad to hear Facts Of Life is coming, that will make alot of people around here happy :)

What's this about Ally McBeal & Boston Legal coming to DVD? I haven't heard anything. Isn't Ally tied up in huge music rights, if it's coming way to go Fox. Maybe then they can focus on Wonder Years & WKRP.

If Boston Legal is really coming then that's awesome. I love that show and i've been waiting for this and Medium to come out since the fall.

Dean Winchester
01-21-2006, 06:54 PM
the Boston Legal/Ally McBeal mention is on TheDigitalBits.com, apparently it was music rights that have been hurting all the Kelley shows, but they have everything taken care of now and season 1 of both shows should be out in the late spring

I think 2006 may be the best year for TV-DVD ever for me!!!

I know for a fact(s of life) that three of my most wanted shows that I had given hopes up for on DVD are indeed coming, Gimme A Break, Facts Of Life and Ally McBeal. I'm also highly looking forward to Mama's Family. Hopefully all these shows are great successes on DVD and they don't wind up abandoned (I am a little worried about Gimme A Break considering Universal's track record with shows like Baretta and Dream On)

2006 will likely see my collections of Seinfeld (8 and 9 will probably be out in November), Golden Girls (7 will likely be out in November since 4 is out soon and 5 is planned for May), Charmed (my collection ends with season 6, which should be out in late summer or fall) and Moonlighting (my collection stops at season 3) completed.

Plus, I'm sure at least two of my three fave Roseanne seasons (4 and 5) should be out this year if they adhere to the 3 1/2 month rule. We know there's going to be more Diff'rent Strokes in a matter of days and hopefully we'll see season 3 later this year as well. I'm sure we'll see season 2 of Housewives this year too, I don't think the show has really gone downhill that badly, I still enjoy the show.

Now I'll say my three most wanted TV-DVD shows are One Day At A Time (okay Sony, release it this year please?), Simon And Simon (Universal loves releasing the 80's action-adventure shows, I think with Knight Rider and A-Team finishing up, they might start releasing this alongside Magnum P.I.) and Supernatural, which is still a freshman, but I am crossing my fingers that music rights aren't too costly and ugly to cause this show to NOT be released in the fall.

Who's the Boss? season 1 was released in June (6?) 2004, which means its going on 2 years since the first season release. I think we should be getting a season 2 in 2006 for sure, hopefully real soon.

According to a reader on a Who's the Boss? fan tribute site (sorry I don't know the sight, I was doing a google search) season 2 is supposed to be released in the late summer of this year, but it's probably just a rumor.

well, at first I went to TSOD and thought that us FOL fans were getting screwed over again, because seasons 1 and 2 WON'T be coming in June.....

but, instead, we'll be getting it even earlier this year :)

Hopefully we'll get season 3 by years-end and hopefully season 3 and maybe 4 of Diff'rent Strokes as well. I know how Sony is not always the greatest when it comes to a release pattern, I just hope we get to the Beverly Ann episodes before 2012

Kate And Allie - Season 1 is coming May 2nd... but it's just that, SEASON ONE.

Universal wants $29.99 for the first six episodes of the series instead of doing the logical thing and tagging it along with season two. Six episodes for $30 is going to flop and Universal is going to abandon the show :( If a show as popular as Night Court couldn't sell enough to merit a second season after being released on a shorter season 1 set for $30, why would Kate And Allie, a show that has slipped into obscurity for the most part (a lot of people remember Jane Curtin from Third Rock, NOT Kate And Allie these days) be able to do better?

This really blows and it was a DVD I was looking forward to, but $30 for 6 episodes? it's going to be a failure and we're gonna be screwed. For free, I'll gladly get it, but what's the point of enjoying it when you know we won't see a season 2, considering higher-profile and better-known shows like Murphy Brown and Night Court couldn't make a season 2.

Johnny S
01-31-2006, 09:11 PM
^ I agree. I wouldn't even pay $5 an episode for my favourite show. That however is just the SRP, and it'll probably be discounted to $19.99 or less. (That is still too expensive for 6 episodes though) Only time will tell I geuss...

true but it's nuts that for $5 more SRP, you can get season 1 of Gimme A Break and Charles In Charge, as well as bonus episodes, when both seasons have at least three times the episode that Kate and Allie has, plus keep in mind that Gimme A Break fans actually are getting one of those six season 1 KaA episodes as a bonus on the set, so those of us who want both GAB and KaA are getting even more jipped since it'll be $30 for 5 episodes..

Wonder Years is hard to tell. At first it was distributed by Fox, then Warner had it in the late 90s, and now I have no idea. It might be back to Fox. I don't remember what logo was at the end on the most recent airings on ABC Family.

While extras are very good, that's what they are just EXTRAS. The more important thing is the episodes themselves (and unedited ones for that fact). While S2-S5 had decent extras, I don't think they will have the quantity of those in S7 and S8.

I understand, but we've come to expect extras with THREE'S COMPANY sets. It's a very disappointing blow in my eyes. They should at least make the effort of one quality extra for season seven. My favorite episode of the entire series in that season, I would be very disappointed for there no be no extras on that set.

Any word on when/if season 3 of "The Wire" will be released by HBO? IMO, it's the best written and -acted series on TV right now, and certainly the best cop show since Hill Street Blues. Actually, it may be better than Hill St....

I'm not quite sure, but I think Simon & Simon S1 is coming soon from Universal. Since Knight Rider will be done by April, I think they will use Simon & Simon in the next wave of 80s action dramas (Magnum P.I. S5 and A-Team S5). I bet we will see that around July.

As for the "CBS DVD" logo on Wings. That is very odd. I have no answer yet.

I have been working on my Gimme A Break review today and I noticed that Simon And Simon was actually profiled in the "Great 80's TV Flashback" documentary alongside countless shows that are already out/coming out on DVD, so I kinda was thinking that'd be a good sign. I hope it does well because the Tim Reid seasons (seasons 3 to 6) were the show at its best and when it really took off and found its footing IMO.

Pav, how well do you deal with Fox? I ask because they just listed their May slate of releases, and no Ally McBeal to be seen, but Boston Legal (which was announced alongside Ally on DigitalBits as coming soon) is listed. Is Ally coming/postponed/cancelled/what?

Dean Winchester

what do you know about Roseanne season 4? I was assuming we'd see June or July for it (IMO, season 4 is when the show truly gets off the ground) but a slew of summer AB titles are announced but no Roseanne, I was kinda looking forward to getting up to season 5 or 6 this year considering the 3 1/2 month gaps between 1, 2 and 3, or is it on the horizon and AB just hasn't officially listed it yet, I mean it's still only February, lol.

well, I think 227 and WTB can be saved, Sony is like that (even though I do think it's time to get off their butt and release another MAY season) but I think Murphy is doomed because it doesn't have a big movie star/sometimes hip hop star or annoying twin actresses who are billionaires despite not knowing how to act, nor did the show have an annoying on-off-on-off relationship on the show that lasted for a decade and the writers made sure not to resolve it until the series finale. Let's face it, MB is too intelligent for Warner Bros. :(

spunkygirl
02-11-2006, 04:00 PM
I'm still holding out hope for WTB Season 2, cause I remember reading here somewhere that Diff'rent Strokes Season 1's sales weren't that great, but yet it gets a Season 2 release. Look at the Jeffersons, people wrote it off, and eventually Sony released more seasons of it.

Dean Winchester
02-11-2006, 04:05 PM
another thing that the companies usually don't realize is once there's a season 2 on the horizon, a lot of people who are a little less die-hard, but still enjoy the show enough to want to own, will feel more comfortable buying the set knowing more seasons are around the corner. I know people on the DS board who held off buying season 1 until they knew season 2 was coming, I am willing to bet that if Sony said WTB season 2 was coming and gave us a timeframe for it, that a lot of people who were hesitant before might decide to pick season 1 up then.

There are a lot of shows that you know before season 1 streets that it's going to be a success and more seasons are gonna come out, a lot of sitcoms from the 70's and 80's (except for the obvious shows like MASH and Cheers) aren't quite as easy to predict so a lot of people will hold off in case it's abandoned.

And when is Paramount stop sitting on their @$$e$ and start stepping up? They've been planning on releasing DVDs of Bosom Buddies, Family Ties, and Webster for the longest, still no DVDs for those shows. All they have on DVD is the same crap that's been on for years.

Let's hope that runtime of 610 minutes is WRONG for the FOL S1/S2 DVD. Because 610 minutes/29 episodes comes out to less than 22 minutes. It should be more like 710 minutes instead.

ClassicTV4Ever
02-27-2006, 02:59 PM
If that runtime DOES turn out to be right, you can bet that I will not be purchasing this set. I will not stand for edited episodes of FOL, especially after waiting this long for it.

June 13th will be the best TV-DVD release date ever with Cheers - Season 8, Frasier - Season 8, Coach - Season 1, and the recently announced Arrested Development - Season 3.

4 of my top 6 sitcoms all in the same day.

what other two need to be announced to make it your best day ever...

So Fox hasn't given up with MTM--- I was even hesistant when they released season three that they might just be releasing it to please fans so they would get off their backs and at the same time be making a quick buck.

So, now I can finally be rest assured that Fox will release the rest of my all time favorite series. Pheww.

That said, I do think, however, that they did a very poor job with season three in terms of extras. They made fantastic effort for the first two years, then they took on PHE's ways. Please provide us with extras for season four, Fox!

It seems, as according to this known e-tailer, that the COLOR HONEYMOONERS release will consist of the TRIP TO EUROPE series of episodes, after all. Notice the slight box art change. Still, no word on the extras for this set that TSoD had mentioned would be on the release.

The release is THE MUNSTERS- AMERICA'S FIRST FAMILY OF FRIGHT.

8/1/06 will feature Good Times S6 (3 disc set) and Hazel S1 (4 disc set).

I think in 2 weeks Sony will announce some huge titles (meaning June 6 announce date for 8/15). If we're lucky we will get all these on this date: One Day at a Time, Designing Women, Maude and Mary Hartman. I'm probably pushing it, but I hear 8/15/06 will be big.

Funny, Meredith wasn't even in the first season. Her character was played by another actress. I wish they would have released the first season separately so I'd actually have a chance at getting it. This is one of those shows that I've been wanting to see for a long, long time.

I've heard from a friend a Seinfeld rumor that Sony was originally planning on releasing s7 this month, but that something (music rights? remastering issues?) put a snag in the plans and that s7 is coming out late 3rd/early 4th quarter '06. I also have a bunch more rumors to tell. All pretty legit, but unconfirmed.

Ok, I'll bite....let's hear those other rumors........please......

TONS and TONS of Fox releases coming up. Gazillions of them (everyone's gonna be sastisfied with them).
Expect them to finish with the NYPD Blue sets by the end of '07 or beginning of '08.
How I Met Your Mother S1 coming possibly this winter.
I hear they're re-releasing the Angel sets in one big box not unlike the Buffy collection last year.
The surprisingly good Boston Legal sales are having Fox consider releasing The Practice (which they are releasing sometime soon) beginning with Season 8 (The James Spader Season)
WKRP and The Wonder Years are shows that Fox really wants to release, but the music rights (as always) is getting in the way.
Seinfeld s8/9 may come out this winter or get delayed to the summer of '07because apparently Sony isn't sure if people will want to shell out lots of cash for s7-9 if they come out the same day.
Newsradio s5 this winter or next January.
Dinosaurs s3 hopefully 4th quarter this year
I'm told that they WILL be releasing The Golden Palace after GG s7 comes out. Don't know about Empty Nest, but don't be surprised if they do release that.

That's all for now!

I'm really excited about this one too. I've always wanted to see the infamous Chevy Chase episodes, he's one of the funniest men in the galaxy! SNL was always a great show, but it had to really be fantastic with Chevy in it!

Can't wait to pick this one up. 24 hour long episodes; like double on what you'd get a regular season set of a sitcom!

This is great news. It's made my day (not my life though, lol).
