Does anyone know how well "NewsRadio" did, if it will merit a season 3 release in 2006? If it had poor sales then I guess I'll just have to go out and buy every friggin' copy I can find to up the sales. ;)

well it was kinda popular in my area, when it came out on it's tuesday my best buy had 15 copies and they were sold out by 11:00 so I had to order mine with 9 other people for a saturday/sunday delivery...

Pat

I bought two copies. I bought mine and then a second to loan out to people who never saw the show before. However, I couldn't find anybody that wanted to borrow it.

So that's 26 copies sold. And then the few people here that bought it. What about, like Barwars, who got his copy for free. Does someone play for that and give it for free? I mean did his DVD count towards the sales?

BTW, I'm glad everything is finally working out for "The Mary Tyler Moore Show." It's not one of my favorite shows, but I like it and own both seasons on DVD. Plus, I feel bad for the die hard fans of a show that has been abandoned on DVD.

Correction on the street date for Mary Tyler Moore S3 -- it comes out 1/17/06, not 1/10. Be sure to note that change.

Wow.

Glad you were right about Maude being paired up with Archie Bunker's Place!

ABP faltered at times, but it wasn't that bad, at least what I saw when TV Land aired it. Definitely interesting they are pairing the two. Kinda strange, but at least they are coming out! Hopefully they sell alright enough to keep the releases coming.

Also glad Ellen s3 is coming out.

Would it be safe to assume Season 8 of both Cheers and Frasier are among those plans?

Those two probably go without saying. Paramount's been pretty consistent with those.

I'm not 100% certain, but there might be a slight delay for three releases. Paramount's Gomer Pyle (slated for Jan. 31) and Wings (slated for Feb. 7); and Warner's Growing Pains (slated for Feb. 7). All three have not been officially announced yet, but will be coming, just probably not on those dates.

 It's funny you say that. Just today I was thinking of that massive dvd collection of yours and was wondering if you ever had time for outside interests.

There was a girl I liked for two years (we worked together). I used my big DVD collection to impress her. She was impressed with my collection, but she still went out with someone else. Most of my friends don't like TV and don't seem impressed at all with my collection.

I go bowling every Monday (I'm in a league) and my two co-bowlers are around my age and they don't watch TV. Today, I mentioned that "Charles in Charge" and "Gimme a Break" were coming to DVD and they had never seen or heard of those shows. I can understand "Gimme a Break" since it hasn't been on in a long time, but I though everyone's at least heard of "Charles in Charge."

Whenever anyone asks me what I'm gonna do when I get home (from work) I say "Go home and watch my DVDs." I don't usually have anything to brag about. So sometimes I brag about my DVDs. :)

A surprise, extras on BOTH Charles in Charge and Gimme a Break! DVDs:

Bonus features for Charles in Charge Season 1:
- "The Great '80s TV Flashback" - 30 min featurette
- Bonus episode of "Charles in Charge" Season 2 with the Powell family!

Bonus features for Gimme a Break! Season 1:

- "The Great '80s TV Flashback" - 30 min featurette

- Bonus episode of "Gimme a Break!" from season 2

Those bonus episodes of other shows as extras are a good idea, I think. That's a good way of enticing people to buy the set if they were on the fence about getting it. It could increase sales and let the studios know there's interest in future releases.

GAB sounds great, a season 2 episode as well as a Kate And Allie episode? that will rock. I love GAB and that makes the deal sweeter.

Hopefully there will be enough interest in both shows to see future seasons released. Nell Carter and Dolph Sweet are both surely missed.

28 - Charmed - Season 4 (Paramount)

March
21 - Roseanne - Season 3 (Anchor Bay)
21 - South Park - Season 7 (Paramount)

May
?? - Seinfeld - Season 7 (Sony)

October
?? - South Park - Season 8 (Paramount)

not confirmed but I will still cross my fingers we get them, all of which are at least possible for 2006:
-Alice season 1 (let's hope the best of set does well enough that WB decides "why not?")
-Ally McBeal season 1 (come on, have any music rights been taken care of?)
-Desperate Housewives season 2 (we'll probably see in the early fall... I am in the minority for liking this season thus far)
-Diff'rent Strokes season 3 (hopefully sales for season 2 will be brisk enough that season 3 could come out by year end)
-Different World season 2 (surely we'll see season 2 next year, which is probably my favorite season)
-Gimme A Break season 2 (let's cross your fingers and hope that season 1 is a success for Universal and does well enough that they announce season 2 is coming)
-Golden Girls seasons 5 to 7 (I have a feeling that Buena Vista is going to take a page out of the Paramount handbook with this show and we'll see season 7 finish out the set come November 2006)
-Kate And Allie seasons 1-2 (the first season was short so combining 1 and 2 would be smart... with an episode appearing on the upcoming Gimme A Break release, maybe Universal is planning a DVD for this too?)
-Mama's Family season 1 (it would be nice if Warner releases this too... but I'm sure it'll get the dreaded "best of" release like Alice)
-Maude season 1 (Sony has said it'll come out in 2006... have never seen it before but I know from other tv series' that the pairing of Bea Arthur and Rue McClanahan is to my liking)
-Murder She Wrote season 3 (should be likely, maybe 4 as well... the early seasons were best)
-One Day At A Time season 1 (this one is long overdue)
-Remington Steele seasons 3 to 5 (Fox has already said the remainder of this series will be released in 2006)
-Roseanne seasons 4 and 5 (I think with Anchor Bay's every 3 1/2 months pacing that we should also see these in 2006)
-Seinfeld seasons 8 and 9 (it's a given we'll see seasons 8 and 9 come Thanksgiving 2006)
-Simon And Simon season 1 (was rumored a long time ago, I wouldn't be too surprised to see Universal partner it up with an upcoming Magnum PI set or something)
-Square Pegs season 1 (since it lasted only one season, what's holding Sony back from releasing the complete series? They had ample time to cash in on Sarah Jessica Parker's Sex And The City glory. I loved the episodes I've seen of this series and know that a DVD set of it would be a favorite, come on, one season, no worries)
-Supernatural (I hope Warner releases this next year... the show is gaining a hardcore cult following and getting good WB ratings, I'm just worried that music rights might hinder it)
-The Facts Of Life seasons 1 and 2 (if announced and released in the first half of 2006, I'll hope we'll also get season 3 by Xmas)

if all these ones come out in 2006, I will be a very happy man... I think there's a chance for all of them (some like more Golden Girls, Roseanne, Desperate Housewives and Seinfeld are basically guarenteed) except I'm a little hesitant on the two Warner titles mentioned considering their disinterest in older sitcoms in season form with the exceptions of Fresh Prince and Full House.

Just a little heads up, if you haven't read yesterday's blog. We're going to have another week-long Sony TV DVD event starting tomorrow. Unfortunately, I was able to get only one sitcom out of them and the rest are new release dramas. The sitcom will be a returning sitcom (Hint: It was NOT listed in vashti's latest History of Sony on DVD post).

This has nothing to do with DVDs, but I was just reading the most recent blog post and got to wondering.... how much is ABC paying you, if you don't mind me asking.... and does it justify all the negativity towards sitcoms on other networks?

They're paying me $32,000 per post. But really, what did I say in today's post to make you say that? Are you a Stacked fan? lol Today's post was about ratings...

Actually, I do like Stacked, but I don't know if I'd call myself a "fan." There just seems to be a lot of praise for the ABC sitcoms, especially in comparison to anything on NBC.

well, that is true. I am not a fan of Joey and think NBC has given it a mercykilling (even though I blame the writers this season.... maybe if they brought Friends guest stars maybe people might bother tuning in?), but I have seen week by week slamming of the show in the blog, when there are ABC shows that get lower ratings that don't get dragged down in the mud the way Joey does.

I agree as well, Still Standing and Yes, Dear don't get that much credit but they do get 7-8 million viewers (maybe not good for CBS but it is still close to 8 million people) But Hope & Faith & The Now Defunct Hot Properties got less ratings but more credit... I hope this isn't taken the wrong way...

If you compare what NBC has done in that slot say 2 years ago, and even last year, Joey is not at all doing good. That is why NBC will remove it. I saw it coming all the way. ABC sitcoms According to Jim and George Lopez are higher rated than Joey. While Jim is down a lot from what it did last year at 9pm, it is doing similar, if not better, than My Wife & Kids in the same slot. Remember the weekly blog ratings is about the ratings, not the quality of a show.

And RE: Still Standing and Yes, Dear, CBS is not at all pleased. Why else would they cut the episode order to 13? Most of the times it gets less than 7 million.

ABC's sitcoms all have been doing decent for them. Except for Hot Properties. And Hope & Faith has been up and down. Yes, they don't have a big sitcom hit, but they also don't have a big dud. I am not big on Rodney, but you have to give credit to that show for quietly building on its lead-in. Currently, ABC only has 3 sitcom hours. 2 of the 3 are decent enough.

I have not said anything bad about NBC's ratings for My Name is Earl. The Office has done terrible, though.

It's obvious now that that Sony poll was meaningless, but what really pisses me off is if they're going to have a poll saying "what should we release next" RELEASE IT!!! Johnny Cash was the top vote getter but something happened so they pulled it, so that means the second place show One Day At A Time should be released and here they are releasing one of the lower vote-getters. I'm one of the few who doesn't usually diss Sony but they're getting ridiculous. They don't put a lot of effort in terms of extras with many of their sets to begin with. How expensive or unprofitable can it be for them to just release One Day At A Time already?!?!?

I agree. Outside of the Elton John song that Barbara and Julie perform in season 2 or 3, are there any music rights or the sort that are that dificult for Sony to secure to release this set? What the hell is the holdup with it?

Part of me thinks Sony is waiting until they've milked every well dry as much as they can and that they're saving ODAAT and FOL for a time when they've finished Good Times, Seinfeld, All In The Family and the sort.

well, you're making it sound like Sony should only do a set per show every 2 years... I personally will be ticked if we have to wait until 2008 to see Diff'rent Strokes season 3, and don't forget One Day At A Time and Facts Of Life, both shows of which ran nine seasons a piece. NewsRadio came out this year but it's not like it's only been a 3 month delay between seasons. I agree that WTB and 227 season 2 both need to come out asap, but at the same time, every show in the Sony vault shouldn't be in the same sort of limbo where you have to wait an eternity to even know that the company intends to continue with it.

I think Sony should stop pussyfooting around and release actual sales statistics the way you'll see sales statistics of cd's. What did WTB and 227 actually sell, and what were they projected to sell?

well, the whole Mary Tyler Moore situation showed "never say never". For years I was hearing that Fox cancelled plans for the rest of the series until they finally sucked it up and announced season 2, and sales were well enough for a season 3.

I think after 3 years, Sony owes MAY fans season three at least.

That's one of the VERY few dramas I love. So I'm very happy with this news. I purposely ignored it in the marathon, becuase I didn't want to get in the mood and not have more episodes to watch. So this will be great.

I remember watching it in it's original run and trying to tape every episode in reruns (on Pax).

oooooh, looking at TVShowsonDVD.com, Universal listened to the consumers and looks like they will be switching to slimcases for the third season of Murder she Wrote (IMO, the sets are too bulky for 3 discs).

Compare the photo TSOD used for season 2 (which is packaged with three amaray cases holding one disc a piece) when it was first announced to that of season 3.

what kind of sales are they exactly expecting to get a season set? I mean, the "Best Of" sets of Welcome Back Kotter and Chico And The Man have surely sold very well and WB have yet to announce a season set for either of those and Kotter's been out for six months

does WHV have any plans on putting Alice out if the "best of" set does well or is the best we can hope for being a "best of, pt. 2"

I think season sets would be more likely if this sells well. If it doesn't, we get nothing.

Kotter has not really come out yet. That was just Best Buy. There is strong word we can expect that best of set to come out everywhere soon.

why is Warner sacrificing season sets for this crap? Seriously.... Nobody wants "best of" sets, because "best of" is objective IMO. I have a friend whose second favorite sitcom of all time is Alice, but she refuses to purchase the "Best Of" set because she finds it an insult because she wants the entire series, that's the way a lot of people feel.

I hope the entire "Best Of" series for Warner fails because if it catches on, I'm afraid Sony, Fox, Universal and the others will cash in on the trend and give up releasing seasons the way Warner has. Someone needs to send Warner a message that we want season sets or nothing. Alice is the only one on the list I have any interest in but I'd much rather buy season 1 than an overpriced "best of" set.

I hope whenever Warner gets to Mama's Family, they decide to release them by seasons instead of a "best of", especially for a show like that where the fans are evenly split between liking the NBC episodes with Rue McClanahan, Carol Burnett and Betty White and the syndicated episodes with Beverly Archer. If Warner released a "best of Mama's Family" set, either way, one of the sides will be pissed.

IMO, if you want to do "best of" sets after the entire series is out, the way Fox has done for X-Files and Buffy and HBO is doing for Sex And The City, that's one thing, it's a nice way to entice people who were curious about the show but not willing to part for an entire season, but "best of" sets in lieu of seasons is not acceptable.

They are doing this because they want to be cautious. Remember they had a lot of job cuts and layoffs and lost a ton of money, so they don't want to lose more money if a season set bombs. They are taking a chance with Growing Pains and Life Goes On in 2006 for season sets. This is why I'm trying to get people to buy the TV Favorites. If they sell very well, we will get season sets.

Dean Winchester

the prob with best of's is that I'm afraid if they do well, then suddenly other companies will do the same. Sony, for instance would go "you know, let's just do a "best of One Day At A Time" or "best of Facts Of Life" set and shut the fans up" or same with some of the other companies.

It seems like except for Growing Pains, Warner has completely abandoned the consideration of any sitcom out there except for Fresh Prince and Full House (since Friends is already finished on DVD).

Plus, I don't know what WB considers impressive sales or not, I know a ton of people who have Night Court, yet WB was not impressed enough with sales to continue onto season 2. So how do we know if a "best of" set would do well since they were so upset with Night Court's sales and that was a title that a lot of people seemed to purchase, it just wasn't a Friends/Fresh Prince seller. Are they expecting "The Best Of Alice" to move numbers that a season of Friends would do in order to consider a season set, or do they have different expectations for "best of"'s and season sets?

I just noticed a massive anti-WB thread on Home Theater Forum over this, I wonder if you can point to those you know at WB how 90% of the Drew Carey fans who post there refuse to buy a "best of" set.

Some guy made the best suggestion, Warner should actually stick a coupon in the sets for $5 off whatever show it is in case a real season comes out, so at least it might make the consumer feel a little more enticing about "well, if I buy Best Of Alice now, I will get it for $5 less if Warner releases season 1" instead of pretty much making the "best of" disc a coaster.

If anything, Warner took the best approach with Friends (which ironically started from "best of" sets that didn't sell because the fans yelled they wanted season sets) during the first few seasons on DVD. When season 2 came out, Warner also issued "Best of Season 1", and then same thing with season 3. I think they stopped after season 4 or so, but IMO, that type of best of set is less insulting because they're offering a cheap sampler to people who are on the fence about buying the seasons yet have nothing new to offer to rip those who already bought season 4 off. How about releasing Alice or Perfect Strangers season 1 first, then release the "best of" disc of season 1's greatest moments when it's time for season 2

no offense, but I like Mama's Family MUCH better than Perfect Strangers and think all in all MF is probably more popular thanks to the guest stars, etc.... After seeing Bronson Pinchot's disgusting behavior on Surreal Life, every bit of interest I once had in that show is gone. Plus, MF has been a bigger hit in syndication, it's been off the air 15 years and yet it's been a staple on TBS.

I personally think it's about time Warner showed respect to a show I actually have interest in.... as opposed to the way they're going to be treating Alice and abandoning Murphy Brown, etc....

A-M-E-N!

Just about everybody I know, knows how MF got started. It was all thanks to Carol Burnett turning over the role of Mama to Vicki back in 1974, a good 9 years before Vicki had her own TV series. The Family sketches were immensely popular on TCBS, popular enough to warrant a TV movie (Eunice), which they filmed in 1981 and aired on TV in 1982. Again, Eunice was so popular that NBC noticed it and that was when they decided on giving Vicki her own series. The rest was explained at TSOD's site. I heard on Vicki's Intimate Portrait back in '03 that MF was the #1 popular show in first-run syndication at the time. We have Lorimar to thank for picking up on where NBC left off.

And now, of today...You still see Carol Burnett today...She has gotten many prestigious awards for her acting since then and Vicki has gone on to do many more things. She has her two-woman show she does...She is in her 3rd year and has no plans to stop anytime soon. Her shows are always sold out and Mama is still a huge hit with everybody.

I must agree with you about Perfect Strangers. Once upon a time, I used to enjoy PS like you...But after seeing what Bronson did on TSL...Um, no thanks. What a creep. I don't care if it was scripted/unscripted, I still wouldn't get PS on DVD.

I do wish Warner would be more respectful of other TV shows on DVD...I REALLY adore Night Court and I am very disappointed that more seasons aren't on DVD yet. :(

you think Bronson, a beloved TV star from the 80's and early 90's who people thought was extremely likable, would purposely agree to alter his image to make him look like a pervert with attempted rapist qualities?

I have no doubt in my mind that Omarosa and Janice were casted on the same show so conflict would emerge between the two of them, both known for being uber-bitches, but Bronson's actions totally destroyed his image. If he did it once and apologized, I would understand but he spent the whole series trying to rape Janice Dickenson, and it was very disgusting to watch.

back to Mama's Family, how likely are Warner to release the entire NBC run in one sitting? 35 episodes is a little much for one set that's not from the 50's or 60's, but Warner has proven itself unreliable when it comes to shows that started with a half-season. Plus, you have two camps of MF fans, the NBC fans and syndication fans. I personally like both but think releasing seasons 1 and 2 together would make great sense and the set would sell very well.

I'm not sure, actually. I would like for them to package a remastered copy of Eunice with the set. My copy is almost 25 years old and looks like ****.

They would have to spread the episodes out over appx. 7 discs if they were to squeeze in the NBC episodes AND Eunice.

Another scenerio would be doing what they did with Night Court, which had a 13-episode first season, squeeze two discs into one case. *shrug*

Dean Winchester
12-20-2005, 07:05 PM
with 35 episodes, they could put "Eunice" on disc 1 and have each disc contain 6-7 episodes, with the least amount of episodes on disc 1 since the movie would be on it too. They could definately be able to do this on six discs, which is standard for hour-long series... although a lot for a sitcom, but I think it'll prove a hit.

BTW, did you know Vicki appears on yet another Murder She Wrote episode on the season 2 set?

That's what I was thinking. Eunice is about 75 minutes long w/o commercials, so it was aired as a 90-minute special when it originally aired. Anyway, with about three hours' worth of episode per Warner disc, they would probably fit four or five episodes on the first disc. That's 30 or 31 more episodes to spread out over five discs, so six discs would be more feasible than seven discs.

Yeah, I knew about the 2nd-season MSW episode. I STILL don't have MSW S2 and it'll be a while longer before I can pick up a copy, but yeah. I have never seen that episode...it was on TV a few years ago but all they ever do is air the first-season episode she was in, over and over and over again... Geez, A&E, how about some VARIETY??

I never really saw MF, but Mama is hilarious! She had me in stitches at the TVLand Awards in 2003! Maybe, if affordable, I'll pick it up. With Warner, it's PROBABLY not likely for them to do a 2 in 1 deal, because of what they've done with NC, etc.

trust me, you won't regret the purchase when ti comes to DVD. I am nowhere as big a fan as Allison or some of the other Mama fans on here, but I have always enjoyed the show and thought she was an absolute riot.

The episode where Vint and Naomi get married in the first season is priceless, with a drunken Eunice (Carol Burnett). If you like The Golden Girls, you'll be sure to love the first two seasons where Rue McClanahan played Mama's sister Fran and Betty White played Mama's daughter. The funniest part is an episode where Ellen (Betty;s character, she looked so young and attractive in the role too, and it was only 2 years before GG started) is talking really frankly and sexually and Fran gets offended... it was so funny considering that they played the exact opposite characters on The Golden Girls.

The latter episodes made from 86-90 are good as well.

Even though it will never happen now because of Estelle's illness, I could picture a show where Thelma and Sophia becoming roommates would've been a total riot

Duh! :bonk: Yeah, I have that on tape. I grabbed it off TV in '03. I watched the entire episode...I can't believe Vicki was only in it at the beginning.

If you liked Mama at the '03 TV Land Awards, you will LOVE MF on TBS...It's on at 6am - 7am Eastern, though. So you would need to tape it if you're not up that early in the daytime. The syndicated Mama was a lot like the one you saw in '03, but with a (mostly) clean mouth. Oh yeah, and you would LOVE Vicki/Mama: the Two Woman Show. Vicki started touring in June 2002 and still tours around the country. I have seen her Vicki's two woman show three times & met her in person twice. Her show is HILARIOUS and extremely raunchy! Mama doesn't hold back, either.

Yeah, it's really weird how Rue & Betty's characters were polar opposites on the NBC years. You never see Fran do the shoulder shake that Rue did so much as her Blanche character...Fran only did it once (that I know of) and that made it even more funny because Fran is such a prude. Ellen always wore form-hugging dresses, something you never really saw Betty do as Rose. Rose always wore airy, old-lady dresses.

Personally...I love it all. Can't choose which one I like, because I like them all. That is, both NBC and syndicated.

does anyone know if Mama's Family will contain the original episode introduction tags by Harvey Korman from the NBC airings? I know TBS has NEVER aired the early episodes with them.

I was surprised to hear that Rue didn't like playing Aunt Fran, apparently the character was written differently towards the end than how she wanted her to be.

Rue McClanahan's Intimate Portrait (recently issued on DVD along with the other three Golden Girls), they quickly glossed over her Mama's Family years with her saying she didn't like the way Fran was written

excuse me, this is exactly the thread (save the 2004/2005 threads) where myself, Tim and other reviewers were first introduced. Why not just give Adam a round of applause because I think him joining the site is long overdue?

Why isn't this thread appropriate? The majority of us who are reviewers are the ones with really long request lists and will even point out the ones we're going to not have to pay for, etc...?

not a bad list, mostly a reminder of shows that were announced to be in the works for 2006. I was hoping for some surprises on the list ::cough:: Facts Of Life, One Day At A Time, Ally McBeal, Simon And Simon, etc...::cough:: but none to my knowledge. I dunno if it was smart to list shows like Alice and co. that are just coming out with best of sets though, because getting a best of set isn't quite the same as the complete first season.

My thoughts, exactly. Why let us know about those shows when the sets coming out for them are weak best-of's? I was originally confused so my original post was a big "????????????????????????????????????????????????". However, I now understand what TSOD has done--- a complete round-up of everything we know about 2006 releases that are the first ever releases of a particular series, like ARCHIE BUNKER'S PLACE.

IDOJ is great, but seriously.... She Spies and V.I.P. before One Day At A Time or Facts Of Life? even if you aren't a fan of either of those four series, there is something really pathetic when two shows that lasted nine season and one of which is #2 on the recent Sony poll and the other is #5 on the TVShowsOnDVD.com unreleased list. I actually want to get She Spies myself, but come on...

At least Sony got it right with IDOJ, any word if there'll be a season 3 of Bewitched to coincide with it?

Here is my want list so far for '06. I would like a lot more, but am cutting back on the DVD's because my collection (even though it's way smaller than most of yours) is getting ridiculous.

4/04- Full House: Season 3
5/??- Seinfeld: Season 7
11/??- Seinfeld: Season 8
11/??- Seinfeld: Season 9
??/??- American Dad: Volume 1

Of course I'll probably pick up some others that have been announced, but this is all that's for sure so far.

Someone tell me please, before I blow a gasket. I can't get a Welcome Back Kotter season set, but Warner sees fit to release ELEVEN DAMN FRIENDS DVDS (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=4845) with episodes that have most likely already been bought by the fans most interested in them. Is that what you're telling me? They seriously think these releases will generate more money for them than a full season Welcome Back Kotter set? Do they? Somebody help me, I'm about to lose it.

I hear ya! Friends is the most overdone set of WB's. They have so many shows that just scream for dvd SEASON sets (like PS, WBK, Alice, SBS, TDCS, Whose Line, THF, etc.) and yet they just keep re-releasing Friends. And of all those TV Favorites sets they say they're releasing Cheyenne is season sets! WB needs to get with the program.

thank you!!! things like that make me pissed at Warner even more. They won't release more Murphy Brown, they are too hesitant to release season sets of Alice and Welcome Back Kotter without dipping their toes in the "best of" pool, but yet they feel the need to release a set of "Joey's finest 'How You Doin' Moments"? go to hell Warner!!!

Warner should take a cue from Friends and work on other shows.... Like HBO and Sex And The City, like Fox and X-Files, like Warner and Friends... the useless "best of" sets are supposed to come out AFTER the show has been completed and the real fans have all of the sets already!!! Warner can release "best of" Alice sets to their hearts contempt... but release the nine seasons FIRST.

I agree, but it's kinda pointless that Warner announces ELEVEN best of sets, when the same company can't find it in them to release season sets of Alice, Welcome Back Kotter and others, and has pretty much abandoned Murphy Brown among other shows. All ten seasons of Friends are out now, wouldn't any fan who has any desire to own the show go ahead and buy the seasons? There are so many shows in the Warner vaults not getting the same attention as this that really do need more DVD attention.

While Friends is a wildly successful show, I don't think it has that cult niche appeal enough to where fans will go "you know, I really need that "Best Of Phoebe" set" the way a lot of X-Philes still bought the Mythology collection sets because of the new documentaries on the sets... Friends is not X-Files, Trek or Buffy in that sense (or even Simpsons and Seinfeld)

Vashti that was not directed towards any one in particular. I agree with you guys 110% that it is ridiculous, and there are much better things these companies can be releasing. I am just saying that personally I don't see any reason for us to get upset about it, since it is totally out of our control. Pavan, I've just registered today to ask if Warner Bros. sees putting "Valerie" on DVD? There was only 10 episodes in its first season (it started as a mid-season replacement) and this would be a great "test" to see if there is enough of an audience to bring the remaining five seasons. Warner Bros. can bypass any "best of" for a "first season, 10-episode (hopefully with extras)" release.
