Pirate Jenny 09-07-2004, 07:15 PM Originally posted by Chambers ooooh that's so cool - being the professor's daughter and leaving your textbook at home. Yes, thrilling stuff, ain't it. Actually, being a professor's daughter has a lot of perks for an narcissistic demon bitch like me. For instance, after my dad finishes up one of his classes, if I happen to be on campus and not doing anything, I get to prance up to the podium and be all cute and daugter-y to my dad, and then all the Law Students are like...ok, I don't know what they're like, but dammit, I love the attention. And then, because my dad uses examples in his class and will often start with "Now if I had a daughter who was a heroin addict, killed my wife and had lots of criminal boyfriends, and I was to set up a trust fund..." I always get the "Oh, so you're THE daughter" witty remarks, to which I give one of two responses... a. Do I look like that daughter? or; b. No, that's my sister. And also it means that the entire Law Faculty knows me and is fair target if I'm broke and need to borrow money. Was there a point to this? ThirteenInchEscape 09-07-2004, 07:21 PM My dad is a scientist, i get $1000 off tuition every year. Go Me! and the wireless internet at WSU is for everyone. Pirate Jenny 09-09-2004, 03:21 PM Originally posted by Chambers ...and Lilith's doesn't? NOT as much as Scully's. I mean, seriously...lets look at this chronologically. 1st season, her father dies. She can't get laid. 2nd season, she's abducted, experiemented on by the government, almost dies. Still can't get laid. 3rd season, her sister is killed, in her apartment...and she was the intended target. Still not getting laid. 4th season, She gets cancer. No sex here either. 5th season, almost dies of cancer, finds out she's barren, and the daughter that was created while she was abducted is killed by some horrific disease. No laying is happening here. Movie, once again, abducted by aliens, gets put in a tub of goo in the antarctic, and generally looks gross. Almost gets some action, but...no. 6th season, ok I can't really think of anything here...but still nothing on the sex front. 7th season, has a horrible haircut. Finally gets some action, then Mulder is abducted. Gets knocked up. Who knows why. No one cares at this point. 8th season. No mulder. Still knocked up. Has a slug that is possibly the second coming of Christ put in her spine, then has it ripped out of her neck sans anaesthesia. Gets stuck with Dogget. Mulder dies. Mulder comes back to life after 3 months of death. Gives birth with an entire crowd of aliens staring at her girly parts. 9th season, Mulder leaves her and kid. Gee, thanks, Chum. Two morons are now on the X-Files. Ends up having to give up her baby to protect it...or...something. Mulder comes back, but is sentenced to death. They escape together, apparently to have lots of sex and sell crack and pimp some whores, but guess what...the world's gonna end in 2012. Lilith's life may be bad, but not THAT bad. Why are you always dooming me, Chambers? Chambers 09-09-2004, 03:25 PM Hm, you're right. Scully's life did suck. At least Lilith had a sex life. Poor Scully. She was my role model when I was younger. Web Page Design and Art3D are two of the best classes I've ever taken, and Chemistry  At least my lab partner is somebody I like. spunkygirl 09-13-2004, 06:51 PM I'm so freaking bored :bored: Chambers 09-13-2004, 07:04 PM Originally posted by periacta And Chambers, I'm not going to clog up this page, but one of my short stories is at the bottom of this page: http://www.livejournal.com/users/deliriums_fish/57609.html You are an excellent writer. I don't just admire your way with words, but how you actually think about what you're writing and how it will affect the reader (at least I got that impression that you do that). So many people our age are good with words but only write dramatic, self-absorbed pieces - you know, the way some girls like taking pictures of their feet and call it "art." These individuals are under the misconception that if you write about something serious, then it is automatically good. It was refreshing to read a story that dealt with something serious yet had a mature backbone to support its weight. You didn't let the subject matter take over - you manipulated it perfectly. If that makes any sense... Anyway, I'm your fan. Chambers 09-13-2004, 07:35 PM Oh God, what decade am I from?? I was just going through these pieces I wrote two years ago, and they're all about repressed housewives and/or secretaries. Naturally they have to do with what I was reading back then, but still. How lame. I was so deeply disturbed. Chambers 09-13-2004, 08:35 PM three posts in a row...not a good thing. Anyway, if you want to know what I really like to write, periacta, click here (http://www.geocities.com/nostomaniasheep/). I can't help it - I like making fun of things. I actually wrote that with a friend a few years ago. There are some mistakes, but we were too lazy to go back and change them. Note: the mixed metaphors we used are supposed to poke fun at the ones Thoreau actually used in his works. Ah, I have a lot of catching up to do. Pirate Jenny 09-13-2004, 09:23 PM "Booze and Women: Why I Hate Poor People." Sorry dude, but I think that THAT is the height of literary genius, right there. Also, don't worry, I'm sure there are one or two repressed housewives out there that you can liberate. Also, if you want to talk horrible writing, the years 1998-2001 will forever be known to me as "The Reason Marcy Does Not Write Poetry Anymore." One of my poems actually won a contest and got published in this book for young adults, but the publisher neglected to tell me that the book had a decidedly Christian/ "Jesus Will Save You" slant, and also neglected to pay me. I ended up having to buy the book myself at a local Borders, and have never come so close to holding an actual ritual bookburning before in my life. Mom wouldn't let me, and I believe it may still be buried under the piles of crap on her dresser. Speaking of "art," you mentioned the feet thing, and I remembered a picture my former friend (don't ask), an ART MAJOR, turned in for a sketchbook project. Not only is it feet, it's been Photoshopped! Oooooooooo! Chambers 09-13-2004, 09:29 PM Hahahaha feet crack me up. I had my own poetic disaster era. I try to avoid poetry at all costs now. Oh, you guys should see how cute Apollo is being. He still hates The Hand, but he subtly sneaks as close as he can get to me when I'm not looking. Right now he's perched on the fold of the blanket right by my elbow, and, this evening when I woke up, he was on my pillow, staring at my face. The odd thing is, his wings are clipped, and he was on the ground when I fell asleep, so, I'm not sure how he got on the bed... Obsessed much? Why, yes, I am. aazWWS um, he just climbed on the computer... I think that means "hi" or possibly it means "Marcy, get off that goddamned Sitcoms Online and feed me nachos, bitch!" I found this book about the portrayal of female detectives in popular culture. They had a whole chapter on Clarice Starling and another one on Dana Scully. (I finally get all the connections between the X-files and Silence of the Lambs - but that's another story.) Anyway, back to my point. The funny thing was that the one about the X-Files refrenced several threads from online message boards, which made me realize....other more important people must read our messages! Anyway, it was also funny because the author mentioned how the boards would go crazy whenever Mulder glanced at Scully, or whenever Scully's hand brushed against Mulder's arm. If you know the series, then you know what I'm talkin about. Moondance 09-14-2004, 06:57 PM I have never watched the X-Files - my friend from high school loved it, but I never was interested. I certainly HOPE no one important is reading these message boards, I sound like an idiot on these things! A CREEPY idiot. Chambers 09-14-2004, 07:18 PM Meaningful creepy idiot. Apart from the FBI connection, there's the fact that Scully looked just like Clarice in the first season - same haircut and clothes. Also, the style and feel of the show (the sets, the atmosphere, the way it's shot - everything) is heavily influenced by Silence of the Lambs. There were even a few episodes that had Scully in the same position as Clarice - you know, a subtle almost erotic connection to some Hanibalesque guy behind bars.
