One Happy Family aired from January until September 1961 on NBC.
Newlyweds Dick and Penny Cooper ( Dick Sargent, Jody Warner) moved in with Penny's family for a night and somehow ended up as permanent residents. Also part of the household were Penny's grandparents, the Hackets . Dick was a meteorologist whose good nature was often strained by the efforts of his assembled in-laws to be "helpful," despite their protestations that they would let the young couple lead their own lives. Penny's father, Barney Hogan ( Chick Chandler), was a successful plumbing contractor with an extremely energetic wife , Mildred ( Elisabeth Fraser). Grandfather Charlie Hacket ( Jack Kirkwood) was a strong-willed old coot with a nutty, fun-loving wife named Lovey ( Cheerio Meredith). The conflicts between the three generations making up One Happy Family generated most of the humor in this series.
