Thumbs down first a deadly sickness now this

well this just adds to my day. I've been sick beyond belief for the past few days. the typical symptoms, runny nose, excesive coughing and hacking, raspy, sore throat, etc. so while I'm late for a class today, I run down the stairs to try and make the bus. so I must have stepped on my foot wrong because next thing I know it Im sitting in the stairwell massaging my foot and hoping for the pain to go away. now I walk with a slight limp. the part that hurts is right above that little bone that sticks out on your ankle. I can't even touch it, unless I want to feel pins and needles excruciatingly jabing my foot. when I apply pressure to the bottom of the foot while I'm walking, I can feel the pain slightly. now going to the doctor/hospital is out of the question because I'm not covered with insurance and only have about $20 to my name. is there any home remedies I can do to take away the pain? like a wet towel or ice? also, is this the sign of a twisted ankle or am I just amplifying the seriousness of the pain since I'm sick already? any help will be appreciated.

Chris,

It sounds like you sprained your ankle, which is no picnic. I sprained my ankle last year and fractured my left hand and right arm.

At the time, I didn't have insurance, either. What I did was I went to a minor emergency center, where I was able to pay them later. My advice is to try and come up with a way where you can go to the doctor. If you absolutely can't do that, call in sick to school the next two days and stay off your foot.

Poor Chris. Now, I aint no Dr., but if I were you Id stay off that foot as much as possible. Maybe you should add a heating pad.. or a cold compress, I forget which one. Hell, try both. Maybe taking an Ibuprofen will help too.

Having no insurance sucks. It should be a crime for insurance companies to just drop you...all because you're poor or you simply grow up.

Is there a county hospital or free clinic around? It's better than nothing, and you can know for sure what's wrong. My aunt is always broke, so she goes to the county hospital when she gets sick.

If it's swollen, use cold.

I know what it is like being sick and I have been sick at work about three times and the bosses/managers didn't seem to care about my health and they told me to stay until a certain time!! How can you stay when you are sick as a dog!!

so much for staying off of it.

there was no way I could miss work tonight, so I had to go. and as you all know, I pass out flyers for four hours door to door everynight. perfect job for my ankle.

there isn't any swelling...it just hurts to walk, limp, whatever. i called my mom and she said if there isn't any swelling, none should develop, cause it would have swelled up right after I sprained it. so she said it should hurt for a few days, but I should be fine. i'll soon find out.

That is totally rude. But if they're sick, they can go home.

My boss is scared of germs, so if I merely mention that I feel bad, she sends me home.

If it weren't for bad luck you'd have no luck at all!

Seriously, I sure hope things improve in your life soon!
