in today's episode ("Most Int'resting Character) beaver writes a composition about ward for school.
a few things i found interesting... 1) there was kind of a side story line about the cleavers selling their house. at the end of the ep, ward and june tell the boys that someone has agreed to buy it. when the boys ask where they are moving, ward says they are moving to a house on lakewood blvd. wally makes a comment about how nice it'll be to have his own bedroom. do they decide to get a different house in a later epsiode? i know their second house wasn't on lakewood blvd. does anyone know? 2) at the starting of the ep, ward tells the boys they are going out for dinner that night. beaver asks if it'll be casual or a dress-up dinner. if i heard him correctly, ward says it'll be a casual dinner but the boys should wear jackets. later, wally is shown with a coat and tie on. was going out to dinner in the 50s always this formal? what would the boys have worn if ward had said it was a "dress-up" dinner? tuxedos? thanks! njf |

Well, to answer your first question, I don't recall them mentioning moving to a different house in a later ep. I may be wrong but all I remember is seeing them in a new house when the next season started.
I think when Ward told the boys just to wear jackets he just meant sportcoats not a full suit. A sportcoat was not a dressy as a suitcoat and was just worn with slacks. If it was a "dress up" dinner the boys would have worn suits. A suit would have consisted of a jacket and pants of the same color and material. A sportcoat could be worn with pants of a different color and was not as formal looking as a suit coat. |

Great explanation Mijada! I was wondering the same thing about the dress code. But you mean to tell me that in that big house they only had two bedrooms? I always thought that Wally and Beaver wanted to share rooms because when beaver moved into his own room he got scared and moved back into the room with Wally. I don't think that they would have been as close if they had seperate bedrooms.

Thanks tanquant. The old house did have at least 3 bedrooms. I think the new house had 4. Back then they would always save the extra bedroom for guests.

I was wondering the same thing about the house, but Ward did say they made an offer and it would probably be accepted. I think that leaves the out that they don't move there. I think that was when they were switching networks, right?

here is the floor plan for the Cleaver's house. According to these prints, the house has 4 bedrooms.

In that episode, Ward mentions that they would be moving to Lakewood Avenue, when in fact we all know they actually moved to Pine Ave.
