Question Why can't the FOL girls get any more famous

I read somewhere on the board that actors/actresses from very successful TV shows can't get anymore famous after that? Why is that

This is just my idea and all, but maybe they're typecast for their roles, meaning they can't do a certain movie because everyone knows them as like (for example) Natalie or Tootie and not as something else.

That's my idea...

long story made short...typecasting.

In FOL's case, after 9 seasons of seeing these actresses play one role, it's too hard for producers to cast them in other roles, and harder to sell them.

A great example is Lisa Whelchel. She was AMAZING as Blair. Beautiful singing voice and natural talent. I am surprised to see that she didn't do too much afterwards!

There are exceptions to the rule, like John Travolta, John Ritter, Michael J. Fox, etc... but it's usually like this...unfortunately.

True, I still can't watch John Travolta without thinking of Vinnie Barbarino. And nobody make me feel old by asking me who that is! LOL

Type Casting Prob. Few people come out of a long running sitcom to become famous. The people in Ralph_Malph's list (and Suzanne Somers) are really some of the few people who were'nt typecast. But then again, Somers got fired after five seasons, and it took her 7 years to get into "She's the Sheriff", and 11 to get the role in "Step by Step."
Isn't it funny how to of the actors were in TC?

...Yet another TC refenrence on the FOL board. Very original.....

Anyway, it's especially hard for Child Stars. I believe in their case, it's called "The Curse of the Child Stars."

Cool

I agree that it is esp tough for child stars...Ron Howard is one of the few rare exceptions.

It took Rick Schroeder 15 years to make his comeback.

What is your problem? FOL has been mentioned on most boards. You even posted something like this on the TC board, where TC is supposed to be talked about. First "How was TC prision"....well how is FOL prision? You people are way to much into this when FOL is off, and the entire Nancy McKeon thing. (FOlks I don't mean most of this. I'm just a little crazy today) So please stop it. You people here make fun of people on other boards and the shows they like. Remember Bixby_Gem? Well, some of you are acting very much like her. Some shows that have been made fun of: Gilligan's Island, The Jeffersons, Diff'rent Strokes, Three's Company, etc., ect.

The only reason FOL survived was that NBC didn't have any hits and anything stayed.

It does kind of suck that none of the FOL actresses (except NM) have really gone on into major roles. Granted, we have KF in "Living Single," but CR, LW and MC have nothing really going on in the spotlight. I wish MC would come back in some WB sitcom. She really does have some talent.

Oh well... maybe Nancy McKeon was smart by distancing herself from the show. She's now doing pretty well on The Division...

Thats probally why NMK distanced herself from FOL-she didnt want to be typecasted and she wanted to go on with her career. Im not saying none of the others didnt want to continue but imo I think NMK tried to do everything after FOL that she could so she would get out of the "Jo" image. For that matter- I just think all child stars-even if they are still making it after they are child stars-want to been seen as an adult instead of a child and that they have moved on with thier lives and career.
