No, no, first of all he is not a lefty, and more importantly his style of pitching will not work in the American League. You need to have stuff to pitch in the AL, nebbling the corner and location might work in the National League, but not in the American League.
Yankees need a lefty. |

Maddux has pinpoint accuracy, his style of pitching shouldn't affect how good he is, regardless of what league he's in. It's not like they have a completely different breed of umpires that call the pitches differently in the NL. I hope to god he doesn't go, I love Maddux, and have all the hatred in the world for the Wankees.

I agree that the Yankees need a quality lefty. Maybe if they sign Maddux, they can turn around and trade one of their righties for a lefty.

As of yesterday,Greg Maddux went back to the Chicago Cubs for a 3 year deal worth $24 million dollars. He played for the Cubs originally from 1986 to 1993. He was a great player when he was an Atlanta Brave from 1993 to 2003 and definitely will still be a great player with the Cubbies.
Good luck,Greg!!! |

I'm comforted by the fact that he'll go in the Hall as a Brave. I still don't see why SD didn't go after him more aggressively.

Kevin Towers has said that the team's flexibility is a high priority. Maddux's asking price and his request for a multi year contract were too subtantial and it wouldn't allow the payroll any flexibility for future roster moves. This was the same reason that Jason Kendall didn't come to the Padres because they wouldn't pay the high cost of his contract if he was dealt. I was really disappointed and concerned when they signed David Wells instead. Hopefully Wells will be a decent #1 starter.

Say what you will about that fan but the Cubs had opportunities to close out the Series afterwards so he is not at fault.
