Why were toilets not allowed to be shown on tv in the 50's? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I remmeber people saying they couldn't show toilets on leave it to beaver or any other show and that is why the first episode was delayed in airing because it showed a toilet. Whats the big deal?

I don't know the reason, but when Puddin had locked herself in the boys' bathroom, the censors had no problem of here teepeeing the bathroom with toilet paper, sorry bathroom tissue.

I WANT TO SEE MARY JANE NOW!!!

i guess in the same way they didn't want to show tv couples in bed together

i think it was because people did not want to discuss or acknowledge certain bodily functions in "mixed company' i don't think it was any more complicated than that

Hey, even in the Brady Bunch, there were no toilets shown, and that was in the early 70s!

They had outhouses but (of course) never showed them!
