I know a couple people whose parents were around 40 when they had kids, and no, I don't think that's weird.

My Grammy gave birth to my mom at 43. My aunt Ethel was pregnant at about the same time as her mother. My mom was an aunt before she was born. I honestly don't see anything wrong wtih it, as long as she was healthy and happy, what's so wrong with having kids at an older age, in some ways it proves that my grandparents still loved each other...my Grammy died when my mom was like 20-21 of skin cancer. I never met her. My mom always wanted to have a kid at 43 to be like her mom, but she's decided that 3 is enough.
I've seen pictures of my mom and my Grammy when my mom was like 9, and yea, she looks like she could be her Grandmother, but they were SO CLOSE...she had the hardest time leaving her mom to go to college, she left college when her mom got sick with cancer and never went back, they were very very close...just like my mom and I. |

Nah, I don't think it's weird. My paternal grandma had her 7th and final kid (it was actually her 9th, because she gave birth to two daughters that died the same day, in different years) when she was 37, going on 38. My grandma is now 80 and my aunt (the one she gave birth to at 37) is now 42 and turns 43 later this year. Oh, I didn't mention that my paternal grandpa was 46 when they had their final child....By the time my aunt graduated from HS at 18, my grandma was 56 and my grandpa was 65. My grandpa turns 90 later this year.

I can't even conceive(no pun intended) ha ha of having a child after 40! I had my first child at 19 and my first grandchild was born when I was 41. My sister had her first baby at 40. Now her son and my 2 grandchildren play together! My grandchildren are older than her child! Weird, huh?

My mother had me when she was 38. I understand what you mean when you say that having an older parent isn't the greatest thing. My mother looks like my grandma. Sometimes when we are in public people will say, "Oh, so you're out with your grandma?" It used to bother me when I was younger. My peers often mistakened her for my grandmother, including my friends who were shocked when they found out her age. When I was 12, my friends had mothers who were in their early 30s. And there I was with a mother who had just turned 50. I hated it. It doesn't bother me anymore though.
But oh well. Nothing you can do about it. |

Age is nothing to be ashamed of. Commiting crimes, being a bad citizen, leaving your family, cheating, lying...THOSE are things to be ashamed of. You may have deeper issues. If you do you're certainly old enough to separate yourself from your mother and go on with your life. If she's been a good parent to you, you should have unconditional love for her, just as I would like to think she has for you. Her age, looks, weight--all superficial. The body no matter how old it is or what it looks like, is just a vessel for the "real" person, and the soul.

My mom was 38 when I was born which was kind of unusual in the early 70's for people to have kids later in life. It was embarassing when other kids would ask if she was my grandmother and my mom also had no clue as to the clothing and music styles of my generation. My friends also thought it was wierd that I had siblings who were 10/15 years older than I. In a way I thought it was cool though because I was the only kid in my neighborhood who became an aunt at age 12. I remember feeling very grown up. Anyways, it doesn't bother me anymore. There's nothing I can do about it and nowdays it's quite normal for women to give birth later in life.

My mom had my sister when she was 21, my brother when she was 22, and adopted me when she was 24!! But I know people who had kids when they are in-between 35-49 and it's a risk for them because of the down syndrome thing!! Children born to parents that age have a high risk of getting down syndrome!!
