Default On that date, February 12th, 1940

I forgot to go back to yesterday since I haven't post it yet that "Superman" debuted on radio on February 12th, 1940. The 15-minute adventure show stars Bud Collier as Superman. That was 2 years after he first appeared in Action Comics. "Superman" was a huge hit for listeners who tuned in during the afternoon. The first chapter begins with a scientist from the disasterous planet called Krypton in which Sho-El had put Kel-Lel on a rocket to reach Earth before Krypton explodes. That was first chapter in which it began on radio back in 1940. Here is the opening announcer from its first show that it was heard on radio:

Boys and girls! Your attention please! Presenting a new exciting radio program, starring the amazing adventures of immortal personality. Faster than an airplane, more powerful than a locomotive, invarious supplets!

"Up in the sky, look! It's a giant bird!, It's a plane!, It's SUPERMAN!"

You're right! Bud Collyer was a game show host after he left "Superman" on radio back in the early 50's. He was on "Beat the Clock" and "To Tell the Truth".

Actually, the name of the Kryptonian scientist was, and always has been, JOR-EL. His son, who would grow up to be Clark Kent/Superman, is named KAL-EL. (although, the sound quality of radio shows back then could cause even moder-day listeners to conclude the names are "Sho-El" and "Kel-Lel")
