This dude never got his due when he was in the group. He was the reason why i was a fan of their's cause before he joined the group, they weren't that successful. They were a jazz group before he joined & he turned them into a pop/funk/r&b group when he joined. They had big hits in the early 80's such as Ladies Night, Too Hot, Cherish, Fresh, Misled, Get Down On It, Celebration, Victory, Take My Heart, Joanna, Let's Go Dancin(Ooh La La La). My favorite Kool & The Gang albums are Ladies Night, Something Special, Emergency. James didn't have any success when he went solo but he's always had a very nice singin voice to me. Kool & The Gang still tours but James doesn't tour with them. I wonder why. I don't think anybody wants to see them in concert without James.

It's odd that you mention Kool and the Gang because it was this week in 1981 that Celebration was #1 on the charts.
