Honest question - Was there ever a more funny episode of Mama's Family written then in the first season when she got a job at the Travel Agency?
"It's a GREAT day at the Raytown Travel Agency, may I help you?" Vicki Lawrence should have won an emmy just for this episode alone! The cold facial expression she makes when the elderly couple walks in is priceless! And when she tries to answer the phone (for the first time) but it keeps ringing is also hillarious. She is supposed to press a button to take the call but she doesn't seem to realize it. Instead she just shouts louder into the phone. But the funniest part of all, that actually made me fall off the couch laughing was after continuously getting phone calls from the family - the phone rings, yet again, and finally she yells, "Well HELL!!!!!!!" I need to get this episode on tape. Vicki Lawrence is a comic genius! |

You are right, that is definitely one of the series' best! I would prob'ly put in my Top 10 MF episodes.
![]() I just love it when Herbert first corrects her..."Nonono, it's a GREAT---day here at the Raytown Travel Agency. May I help youuuu?", and then Mama just sits there on the phone and tries her version of "It's a grEAT day---" ![]() and I also love, Mama: "Oh, Mr. Fogleman!" Herbert: "You can call me Herbert." Mama: "Oh, Herbert!" She uses the exact same delivery for both lines, lol!So good to see someone else appreciate NBC MF! Also, a li'l "fact o' interest"---this is the only episode where we see Buzz or Sonja in the downstairs bathroom: Sonja (Buzz is never in there).

I like all the episodes when Mama gets a job. There were three: Travel Agency, Food Circus, and McRay's. My favorite was McRay's though when Mama is trying to make money for Hawaii. I love the way she yells at her family in the restaurant in front of everyone.

Have you ever noticed that while Mama is screaming at her family that Dorothy Lyman is having a hard time keeping a straight face? Looks like she is ready to burst out laughing!
