Mother Dexter and Sophia Petrillo - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I think Mother Dexter seemed alot like Sophia Petrillo on "The Golden Girls." They were very similiar. Does anyone here agree?

Not entirely! Estelle Getty played a much older character whereas Judith Lowrey played the same-aged Mother Dexter. I think one sad legacy of Judith Lowry's demise in the middle of the production schedule has been that since then, few if any elderly sitcom characters have been played by performers their same age! Without Mother Dexter, there really was nothing left appealing about the show and I was relieved when it ended a few months later!
