Post 76ers Fire Coach Randy Ayers

Randy Ayers was fired by the struggling Philadelphia 76ers during his first season as their coach, two team sources told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Assistant Chris Ford will be promoted, according to one of the sources, who both spoke on condition of anonymity. The 76ers announced they would have a news conference Tuesday afternoon, but they did not say why. Philadelphia went 21-31 under Ayers and is 1 1/2 games behind the Boston Celtics (news) for the final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference.

All but one of the 15 Eastern Conference teams have changed coaches since the end of last season — and now the 76ers have done it twice in that span.

That's gotta be some kind of record, 6 of the 7 teams in the Atlantic division changed head coaches between the start of this season and the all-star break, if you count Riley stepping down and Stan Van Gundy taking over.

Chris Ford isn't gonna improve Philly so firing Randy Ayers probably wasn't a good thing. It's a shame that everytime a team is doing bad, the coach is always the first person to get fired. Philly need to get rid of some players. People have to understand that the coaches aren't on the floor playing. It's the players out there playing & if the players don't do what the coach says when he draws up the plays, it's the players fault.

LOL@Randy was hired cause nobody else was available hahahahahahahahahahahaha. The Sixers should've kept Larry Brown as the coach. It doesn't make sense to me that Joe Dumars could fire Rick Carlisle from Detroit when he got the Pistons to the eastern conference finals the last 2 yrs. The Sixers problems start with the players they've traded in the past that took them to the championship about 3 yrs ago. Tyrone Hill, Jumaine Jones, Dikembe Mutombo played very well in Philly when they were there. Theo Ratliff should've never gotten traded from Philly either. Management is to blame for Philly's troubles, not Randy Ayers.

I meant to say that Ayers was the only one available who wanted the Sixers Coaching Job.

LOL@Greg Anthony being a coach hahahahahahahahahahaha. U might as well have Tim Hardaway as a coach with his illiterate ass if you're gonna have Greg be a coach LOL.

Usually that type of player...defensive mindset...makes a good coach. Greg Anthony has more experience in the game of basketball than Lawrence Frank.

Lawrence Frank has more coaching experience than Greg. I saw his profile a couple of nights ago when the Nets played Detroit on TNT. He's been a assistant coach in college a lot but not the pro's. I think Greg should stay a ESPN studio analyst doing NBA games like he's doing now. I'm surprised he got a job at ESPN. It seems like ESPN will hire anybody LOL. They had Tim Hardaway as a studio analyst for ESPN doing NBA games last season & his speech is terrible LOL. ESPN i see also hired Brian Cox to do NFL games in the studio. He was always in trouble when he was a NFL player. I wonder how come they haven't hired JR Rider at ESPN to do NBA games LOL. If they can give Tim Hardaway a job, give JR one.
