I saw this on eBay this morning.....
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ADME:B:SS:US:1 Any idea why our beloved Freddie would be listed in a book about Cults in America?!?!? ![]() Here is the write up: A searing account of the appeal and the peril of the cult phenomenon! America's mad messiahs - they can be found everywhere, from the sidewalks of teeming cities to the jungles of Guyana. They are the self-styled prophets, the charasmatic leaders, the money-grubbing gurus who attract a fanatical following among the innocent, the vulnerable and the ignorant. This book tells it all - who the leaders are and how they operate. ~ Included/discussed are Charles Manson and his Nomads; Jim Jones and Jonestown; Patty Hearst; devil worship & sex cults; witchcraft & wicca; white slavery cults; Freddie Prinze; Hitler and Nazism; Ku-Klux Klan; brainwashing and deprogramming. The thing of it is, I wouldn't pay for this kind of book, where our Freddie might be slandered in it, but on the other hand, I am curious as to why his name is listed?!?!?! Anyone know anything about this book????? |

I don't know why he'd be listed there, Marie, but I saw that listing on eBay, too. I was intrigued and disturbed by it, so I ordered the book from amazon.com for the princely fee of about four bucks. I'm expecting it any day, so once I receive it and get the scoop, I'll post it here.

This is weird... I wonder if maybe the reason why Freddie is in this book is due to the fact that a 12 yr old girl committed suicide after he died because she was a big fan & was so distraught over his death she couldn't go on anymore & committed suicide because of it. I had read about that & also read that that a couple of other teenagers had also commited suicide after he did cuz they either couldn't go on without him or were copying him. Maybe the books writer thinks because of this that he had a cult like following that caused others to commit suicide. It sounds like an interesting book & we can't wait until you can post the stuff from the book on here...

Cheryl....... I remember only one suicide when Freddie died. If there were anymore I was not aware of it.
I'm pretty sure there were more but, it was not published or told to the public. |

Oh, I hope the book doesn't say he had a cult following that caused others to commit suicide. It didn't come in the mail today -- I'm hoping for tomorrow, or very soon afterward, and also hoping that the contents aren't upsetting.

Thank you victorianscribe for being willing to share whatever it is in the book. I know I might be bothered by it, but I am curious to see what it has to say....

Can't wait to see what it says. Sadly tho it will probably be something bad. But we all know the truth in our hearts, that he was really good & sweet...

Maybe it was some thing to do with as you say the fans, the ones that killed themselves, and the fact that he had a problem with addiction, unfortunately those are factors that are often associated with cults and stuff but that doesn't mean Freddie was the head of one, or a part of one.
I agree it is bothersome but i too am curious about how they jumped to that conclusion. |
