Default One of the weirdest things about Good Times was.......

The Willona character living in the projects and she did not have ANY KIDS, and worked FULL-Time. Why was Willona even in the projects?-LOL

Maybe she liked living there..because in the projects is where her friends were....and it seemed to me that the Evans were not only her friends but family as well...and another thing she only worked in a small, little clothing store, so I am amussing that she did not make a lot of money to begin with and also during that time period in the mid-70's...The country was in a terrible recession...

She still was not supposed to be living in the projects. The Ghetto Yes, the Projects No.

Didn't she design/make her own clothes?

Just because your poor doesn't mean you have to look it!

This Thread is not about Willona's Clothes, I was saying that she shouldn't have been living in the projects because she was supporting herself. Projects was are low income housing for low income families. Willona was single with no kids.

WHAT!!!!!!!!!!! Why is that weird, people should live where they want. some people are just comfortable in certain situations and I guess for Willona this made her comfortable. Beside we never knew what her income was. I know a lot of people who dress very well and live in low income areas, again some people like fine things and will sacrifice one for the other.

Again JMO!

Is there really a big difference between the ghetto and the projects besides the family thing? I mean either way they're all living in poverty.

Your right! She should have been a divorced mother before Penny came along. Good catch!

Actually, according to Ja'net DuBois, Willona WAS originally intended to be a mother but she herself put her foot down saying 'No way! The days of the black mammy are OVER!'
Maybe Willona started out at the projects as a married woman but stayed after her husband dumped her but if she preferred to spend extra money on her wardrobe instead of dressing out of the church poor box and moving to a more expensive neighborhood, who's it hurting?

It's just funny because you would never see a woman living alone in the projects in real life-LOL
