Dozing off; it was getting kind of late, though she got a 2nd wind which let her get up to dance when Uncle Jesse arrived.

Thinking of a friend who'd been "whooped" & she thinks about how much it would hurt hearing about it or arrived soon after it happened at the friend's house.

Thinking of D.J. having to "whip her into shape" at camp, how tough she had to be those 3 weeks to get Michelle to be good, though no physical punishment was actually threatened

D.J. actually threatened to spank her - she'd only use a hand - because Michelle was so wild, she's downcast thinking of how badly she'd behaved to have that even be mentioned by D.J., & a friend referred to it as Michelle "almost gettin' whooped."

D.J. spanked her mildly earlier, sometime at age 4 or 5, & Michelle remembers, since it was so unusual/the only time anyone even so much as mentioned it in their family. The shock was as much as a harder one would hve been at 6.5

Michelle was so sneaky & rebellious that summer, D.J. "spanked her good" once - it likely only stung bad half a minute to a minute, & they'd cry together afterward, but the memory of being that bad & getting it comes back hearing the lyrics.

Ya know, I knever noticed that in Another Opening, Another No Show, but DTF955's right, I wonder if she did fall asleep. Michelle sure did get a second wind bit later. Or were those lyrics bothering her.
For those who dont' know, as the band plays its first song, "Whip Him Into Shape," everyone's clapping to the beat and enjoying it, except for Michelle, who has her head down on the lines "whip him, whip him good." Is she dozing or downcast? The words are clearly about a woman getting her boyfriend/husband to be a good man, but they might remind her of a friend, or even a threat D.J. made, given it's the TV Unvierse, though none of the adults would ever hit. So, why is Michelle looking down - dozing or downcast? |
