Default How can a syndicated show be LIVE?

Sometimes I see about some daytime talk shows claiming they are "Live", but if it's syndicated how can it be live? That doesn't make sense to me. Unless they say they are live and they really aren't. Like On Air with Ryan Seacrest claims to be live, but it's syndicated. It comes on at 2pm Central time where I am. Also, Oprah's 50th birthday bash was supposedly "live", but that show is syndicated, too. Also, what about LIVE with Regis and Kelly. I wish they wouldn't claim to be live, unless they REALLY are!

These syndicated talk shows are called "Live" because they are
videotaped before a live audience.

If you get "LIVE! With Regis & Kelly" at 9 a.m. ET, then you get it live. It tapes at 9 a.m. in NYC, and airs live in NYC on WABC at that time. Oprah tapes in Chicago, the only live episode of that (unless there were more before?) was the 50th birthday, at 3 p.m. CT.

I'm not sure how Seacrest works, but it comes here in NY at 5 p.m. ET, so I'm assuming it's live at 2 p.m. PT, since it is L.A. based?

The View is live as well, for the east coast (and some central markets) at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.

IT's taped in front of a live studio audience.

The west coast is behind time wise 2/3 hours from the East Coast so everything is always tape delayed.

Ellen is taped LIVE in front of an audience but airs the following day.

The blue sky, the desert earth, stretching out into the eerie infinity. A beautiful never-ending nothing.

We are talking LIVE, as in live television.

Ryan Seacrest comes in here "Live" at 4pm ET, so I'm guessing it's not live.

Jimmy Kimmel is live, except when NightLine is running late. When it does, they just record the show and go home.

Basically, you get Live shows if you live on the East coast, and tape delayed shows if you live on the west coast.
