Different Strokes or Silver Spoons? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I enjoyed both shows but I wasn't a fan of the mother or the guy who wore the suit on Silver Spoons. On the Flip side, i enjoyed the characters Dudley, Arnold, Willis, and Mr. Drummond. So that's three characters that I liked on SS and 4 characters on DS. DS wins.

Silver Spoons by a long shot. The show allowed Ricky Schroder to grow up and not keep him at one age during the duration of the series. The show had better acting, casting and storylines were much more interesting. Plus Erin Gray was quite a hottie on the show. I like the chemistry between Joel Higgins and Erin Gray especially after they were married. They look as though they could had been married in real life.

Different Strokes was not well acted and they kept Gary Coleman as a child on Mr. Drummond's lap for too long. In the E True Hollywood Story one of the producers admitted that it was a mistake to not allow Arnold to grow up and keeping him as a cute adorable little boy. When Maggie and Sam came along it killed the show. I thought Conrad Bain and Dixie Carter were much more compatible than him and Mary Ann Mobley. The whole premise of Different Strokes played out and the show got progressively bad at the end.

Yeah i think DS was not really from 78-79 and 85-86. I only like eps from 1980-1984. I agree, the Arnold charcter was cute and adorable too long.

Diff'rent Strokes was better IMO, though I won't lie and say that when I was little I DIDN'T want a train in the house just like Ricky had

I watched Diff'rent Strokes all the time when it originally aired but thought it had the corniest jokes. Between Drummond and Mrs. Garrett and Adelaide and the other housekeeper (name?), I thought the jokes were overwhelmingly corny, but not enough to prevent me from liking the show. I really started to appreciate it around '89-'90 when it aired here in syndication. Basically I'm saying I'm a DS fan. I've seen it much more than I've seen Silver Spoons, which I haven't watched since prime time.

Even though I have only seen one episode of Silver Spoons I like it a little better than Different Strokes.

Different Strokes. I like the Drummond character (played by Conrad Bain of MAUDE). He cracked me up the way he would look out at the audience all the time in disbelief.
