I have to disagree with the Cyndi. When You Were Mine's not only one of my fave Prince covers, but one of Cyndi's best songs ever IMHO (definately the best track off She's So Unusual). I think it should've been a single.

Best:
Cyndi-When You Were Mine
Chaka-I Feel For You
Sinead-Nothing Compares 2 U
Bangles-Manic Monday

In The middle:
Ginuwine - When Doves Cry (it was good, but it was better funky)

Worst:
Mariah-The Beautiful Ones
LaToya (I'll take your word for it)

First of all, we are all entitled to our opinions. I didn't care for Cyndi Lauper's cover of "When you were Mine." Nothing against Cyndi as a singer. "When you were Mine" is one of my favorite Prince songs and that early 80's is my favorite Prince era, and I don't like most covers of Prince songs from the early 80's. Me'lisa Morgan's cover of "Do Me Baby" is one of the few exeptions.

I have to correct on the following. "Manic Monday" is not a Prince cover. It is a song Prince wrote for the Bangles. (Actully Prince orignally wrote it for Apollonia 6, but their version was never released) Prince wrote a lot of songs for other artist, before you list a song, make sure Prince originally recorded it.

"Nothing Compares 2 U is borderline call, because it was originally was not recorded by Prince but was eventally recorded by Prince, it was originally recorded the Prince group Family, then recorded by Sinead O' Conner, and then by Prince himself.

ps: I think most of us can agree that Chaka Khan "I Feel for You" set the standard for Prince covers, Prince has never played that song in concert since Chaka covered it, because he feels it is her song now. Much like "I will always love you" is a Whitney Houstan song now instead of a Dolly Parton song.

I would say that Tom Jones version of "Kiss" is one of the worst Prince covers, but I never liked that song to begin with. Not one of Prince's best songs in my opinion, but it was a hit.

Kiss is one of those songs that's okay if you hear it once every 6 months (or longer), but certainly not one to listen to all the time. I thought Mountains and Anotherloverholeinyohead were better singles off the PARADE album, yet both songs are all but forgotten today

I agree that "Mountains" and "Anotherholeinyourhead" are the best songs on the album. Also "Life can be so Nice" and the instrumental "Venus De Milo" are also very good songs off of Parade.

I have a tape of a Prince concert where Prince preforms "When You Were Mine" in a deap voice, instead of a high voice (the way the song was recorded), and didn't care of that either. So Cyndi Lauper is not the only one who did a cover of that song that I didn't like, in a way so did Prince.

You guys reminded me of songs I forgot to list, and you since you added a third category "Okay Covers", I will revist my list.

Best Covers
1) Chaka Khan - I Feel for You
2) Me'lisa Morgan - Do Me Baby

Okay Covers
Stephanie Mills/Alicia Keys - How Come U Don't Call me Anymore
TLC - If I was your Girlfriend
Jill Jones - With You

Worst Covers
Cyndi Lauper - When You Were Mine
La Toya Jackson - Private Joy
Ginuwine - When Doves Cry
