Default Little Nicky Banks...like or dislike

One thing that's always bothered me about sitcoms is when they add a new "cute kid" in the later seasons. With Fresh Prince they had little Nicky be born and then magically aged him a few years and I HATED that. To me it made the show lose a lot of credibility. I still enjoyed FP but it really lost it's magic sparkle after that move IMHO.

I never liked Nicky. I don't like sitcom kids in general because they tend to be unrealistic with the ridiculously adult lines they are often given and the fact kids in real life would never behave anything like sitcom children. Yeah, sitcoms are fantasy for the most part but this always bugged me a lot.

What about you?

That's practically a t.v tradition. Every show that had no kids in it added kids when the lead actress got pregnant with the possible exception of the Dick Van Dyke Show. Richie just appeared the next season.

Little Nicky as far as child actors go really didn't bring anything to the show. He didn't have the personality like other kids I've seen.

I didn't like it. Like marving said, it's a sitcom tradition (and was especially common place in the family-heavy sitcoms of the 80s and early 90s) to bring in new children as a series progresses. I can't really think of any situations where these plots have added anything to the show, and Fresh Prince was no different.

That's how Nicky got added to the mix. Janet Hubert-Whitten, who played Vivian #1, got pregnant and they incororated the pregnancy into the script. I think the kid killed the show for me and with them changing Vivians took my interest away from the show. Janet rocked on her role as Vivian.

Never paid much attention to that character. He didn't do anything for that series.

I agree he was unnecessary, I can't say he ruined the show but he certainly did not add anything to it either.

Makes me want to thank Bob Newhart for never having kids on his shows.

Because he knows sombody.....

This kid sort of ruined the show a bit for me. I guess when ashley got older, they added him.

I use to hate the 5 year old Nicky, but now I've taken a liking to him. The baby that played Nicky sure was ugly.

I read once where they wanted the Hartleys to have a child on The Bob Newhart Show, and Newhart threatened to quit. He was that adament about it.

I've never been a fan of shows with kids anyway. I like adult comedies...Seinfeld, Barney Miller, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Cheers, Wings, Coach, etc.
