We can assume they (Carol and Mike) each adopted each other's children to create the family. Carol would also legally adopt the boys, but the surname Brady will be used. How do you mean "immediately" anyway. We assume by this union, that this is The BRADY family. The adoption may have happened shortly after their honeymoon. The second episode would seemingly have them all living under one roof as "The Brady Bunch."

I always thought it was odd that they called Mike and Carol,Mike and Carol, before the wedding and after marriage called them mom and dad(the boys calling her mom,the girls calling him dad) I think it would've been more natural to have them eventually over time call them that.If I got remarried,I wouldn't expect my kids to call their step father dad right away,if at all.

I also thought it was odd that the kids immediately started calling their new parents Mom and Dad. It wasn't because of the times --the kids on "Make Room for Daddy" and "My Three Sons" called their stepparents by their first names. But it does lend credence to the theory that Carol was indeed a widow, and that Sherwood Schwartz's effort to rewrite history by saying that Carol was TV's first divorced lead character is just a silly attempt to make the show seem groundbreaking. If Mr. Martin was alive, then why did the girls take Mike Brady's name and start calling him Dad?

At the time the show originally aired, Paramount's publishing arm came out with several "Brady" books aimed at the young adult crowd. I have one of them, and in it, the kids call their stepparents Mike and Carol, rather than Mom and Dad (the story takes place well after the wedding). Weird.

In an episode, the one where Greg gets hip and has his own room(Mike's den),Greg calls Mike and Carol Mike and Carol instead of Mom and Dad and Mike corrects Greg by saying that calling parents by their first names may be hip but around here it's Mom and Dad.
