WOW! Big difference between DVD and those on TV - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I had not seen an episode of The Dick Van Dyke Show on TV since I had bought the first two seasons on DVD until the other day, and what a difference. You never realize how grainy the episodes on TV are until you have seen the clean versions on DVD. I couldn't believe the difference.

I realize this should be obvious due to the quality of DVD's, but I still was not prepared for what I saw.

I noticed the same thing when I started getting the T/L sets. It leaps out at you .The sound was even incredible. Although I usually watch TV Land on a home theater system, the shows on dvd seem more stereophonic than when on TV, although I'm sure they were originally recorded in mono.

You're right about the clarity of these DVDs. You can even see things you're not supposed to

How many of you have seen the shadow of the boom mikes moving across the sets in various episodes? The first time I saw one, I backed up the scene because I wasn't sure what it was I was looking at.

Steve is right about the sound quality also. Very good.

If only these sets had English subtitles, they'd be perfect.
