No, George called his supposed best friend a Nig#a after he found out that he was harassing Louise and that was in season two, not one. Would they allow that word on network TV nowadays?

No i was saying that George also used the N-word in the first episode of season one. But yeah i know the episode you are talking about. It's the episode with Lou Gossett JR. As Far as the N-word being used, TV LAND cuts it out a lot. UPN keeps the N-word in sitcoms like Good Times and Sanford and Son.

Yeah that was a season 2 ep with Lou Gossett as George's Friend. I really don;t hear the N-Word on TV too much today.

The last time it was used was late in the series when he actually used the N-word in reference to Lionel! I think this was at the beginning of the 81-82 season (one of Mike Evans last episodes).

What episode was that and what was the context of it being used? I only remember Lionel being in 4 episodes in 1981-82

The episode I am referring to is #170- Blazing Jeffersons.

Here is the synopsis from tvtome.com:

<<George is distraught when he learns that his Brooklyn store has burned down due to faulty wiring. However, Tom raises his spirits by reminding him that his insurance will cover it by taking to court the person responsible for the faulty wiring. Just then George remembers who put in the wiring, Lionel.>>

When Lionel leaves the apartment, George uses the N-word on him to Louise.

Wow. That was unusual for so late into the series and for him to have called his own son a n-----r is a bit shocking to me.

If I'm not mistaked Mike Evans quit the show at that point (not because of the word of course) and didn't appear again at all until Sayonara in year 11.
