Default Eunice's voice over in Syndicated Episode

In the episode "Pomp and Circumstance," was that Carol Burnett on the phone as Eunice or was it another actress because it sounded kind of off? If it wasn't Carol, why do you think she wouldn't come back? I thought she and Vicki were like best friends.

I think it was Carol Burnett on the phone. I'm not sure why she wasn't in MF much. She was in a lot of movies in that time slot. Also, I think she should have been in more because her husband was the producer! I'm not sure why she wasn't on a lot I wish she had been

According to the episode guide from off my site:

Pomp and Circumstance
Original Airdate: November 6, 1987
Special Guests: Joseph Campanella as Allan Hanson and Phyllis Franklin as the voice of Eunice.

Mama and Bubba finally graduate from high school together, but Bubba wants to skip the ceremony.

Phyllis Franklin's IMDb profile: http://imdb.com/name/nm0291522/ She hasn't done a lot of stuff, so she's not that well-known.

Yes, Carol and Vicki are best friends. Jon, Carol Burnett and Joe Hamilton got divorced in 1982, right before "Mama's Family" debuted. The deal was that Carol would only do five episodes of "Mama's Family" as Eunice, and that would be it. She and Joe weren't on good terms, so she didn't want to have anything to do with "Mama's Family" during its six-season run. And obviously, Carol really didn't want to do her Eunice role, due to her recent divorce from Joe at the time "Mama's Family" debuted.

Hope that helps clear things up.

No that was definitely not Carol Burnett! It sounded like her but then it didn't! Know what I mean? A little too forced! ?

Yeah, it was because of her strained divorce with Joe at the time. It wasn't anything against Vicki, Vicki feels that Carol just didn't want anything to do with anyone connected to Joe---and since Vicki was workin' for him, that was like "workin' for the enemy".

In an ironic twist, the very day Vicki signed with Joe to re-start "Mama" in syndication, Carol called Vicki to see if she'd like to do a show with the "Family" characters!

Vicki had to tell Carol that she just signed with Joe though, the call became very abrupt, and Vicki didn't hear from Carol for some years after that.

I think the phone woman did alright as Eunice (obviously it wasn't Carol, but she tried), but I think the girl who did her in "The Sins of the Mother" (the flashback episode with Eunice as a teenager at the church Mother/Daughter banquet) was just superb as a teenage Eunice!
