The Classic Comedy of Lowell & Roy - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

In last night's "Airport '90" I thought it was hilarious when Lowell slapped Roy to calm him down. And then later, Roy slaps Lowell. Just the look on Roy's face as he's slapping Lowell is funny.

And then a couple episodes ago, where Roy asks Lowell to take a customer's bag, and Lowell goes up to the man's wife, thinking that she's the bag. What makes that so funny is that Roy was actually being polite for the first time. "Lowell, Please take Mr. (I forget his name)'s bag out to the plane." That'll teach Roy to be polite again.

One thing I didn't like was in Lowell's last episode. Sure it was funny to see Roy with a tissue "Just go". But I really wanted to see them hug. It would be the end of a really funny (as N@N would put it) Modern TV Classic Duo.

Any more classic Lowell-Roy moments? (I know there are, but I don't want to mention all of them

)

Yup

I love when Lowell and Roy slap eachother, plus, Lowell was trying to act all butch and in control when Helen was up there in the airplane. Lowell only acted in control and butch once in a great while, but when he did, he did it well!

And a few days ago I mentioned the bit in "Return To Nantucket - Part II" where Lowell misunderstood a comment about Roy being tired of "women's problems"...and Lowell thinking that Roy was really a woman dressed up as a man! Roy's horrified reaction to THAT was PRICELESS!

And of COURSE we can't forget Roy and Lowell as "Trivial Pursuit" partners!

Those two guys were a GREAT comedy team!

But now when I see that ep I groan all through that because I'm thinking, "Poor Lowell!!"

The best Roy and Lowell bits I've seen so far have been mentioned -- the walkie talkie one, complete with Moon River, and the hilarious Trivial Pursuit episode. That scene is funny beyond words. Ann Margaret!!

I think Roy is every bit as funny as Lowell. I don't see David Schramm anywhere these days. Brad Garrett played Jackie Gleason in a TV movie last year, and he did a great job.
Yet, there are times, while watching Roy, that I can visualize him playing that role.

David Schramm's comedy style reminds me a LOT of Jackie Gleason's. David never really COPIED Jackie, but I can see a definite influence there.

In the "Roy-Lowell" routines, you can see how Roy will react to Lowell's stupidity...much like how Ralph Kramden reacted to Ed Norton in "The Honeymooners"....

Plus, in later seasons David got into more physical comedy (wiggling his stomach in that crazy belly-dance, etc.)....and of course, Jackie was ALWAYS into that kind of stuff!

The only other time I think Lowell acted like that was during the hostage crisis. He sure was funny in those moments

That was hilarious. Lowell is barking intelligent orders like a drill sergeant....then he doesn't know which end is up in finding the actual airport.

Sorry if I'm straying from the topic, but I'm actually surprised that anybody is still replying to me after I acted like a total a$$hole last week.

I realize that I come off with an attitude sometimes, but at least I'm old enough now that I can recognize when it happens and boy... do I punish myself emotionally when I do act that way. I was actually shocked that my account or ISP wasn't blocked.
Talk about being tolerent, I haven't seen such a civil attitude on a message board in a long, long time.

To top this message off and to get back to the subject, I'm restoring my website back to it's former glory, thanks to some help from archive.org.
It looks much more friendly, I must admit.

Frankly, I hadn't noticed that you had acted strangely, but I DID notice that you were absent from the board for a few days (and you were missed)......

Just remember this...The people on "Wings" were friends right up to the final episode....and ALL of them acted like (as you put it) "total a$$holes" at ONE time or another!

I was joking that Lowell and Roy had kids together, kind of like the movie "Junior" where a man has a baby.
I thought it was funny.
Obviously others did not.

Listen, honey - that was NOTHING compared to what I've seen/experienced on other boards... and didn't you and the other person apologize to each other and make up? That's what's important.

I think being quick to apologize to each other is the best thing you can do when a misunderstanding occurs... and being patient with each other.
