Default Fav St Olaf Story

We all love the St Olaf stories Rose tells in each episode. Was wondering: What's your favorite story?

I thought the one where she talks about her cousin that does bird impressions was hilarious. It was something I didn't expect.

The one about the guy that falls in the grave, and his business partner commits sucide, and they push him in with the fist guy.

My favorite St. Olaf story is the following:

Rose is talking about some mean, old woman who used to live in St. Olaf. Old Lady Neidermier, I think, was her name.

Rose remarks that the woman never smiled...and one day, when Rose was a little girl, she asked the old crone why she didn't smile.

"Well, she had been born with no smile muscles. I told her that a frown is just a smile turned upside-down. So from then on, whenever she'd see us kids, she'd stand on her head and wave."

I have used part of that story when I do substitute teacher work on my days off from my main job. It is very stressful and not much opportunity for laughing or smiling. Usually, during the course of the day, one of the students will remark that I don't smile very much...and when that opportunity comes up, I'll answer back that I was born with no smile muscles but since a smile is just a frown turned upside down, will offer to stand on my head and wave as the students leave the classroom. It usually garners a laugh or two from the kids and breaks the tension. And I always think of Rose and the Golden Girls when I say it!

the one where Rose talks about the boy who didn't cry wolf, and the one where she talks about the St. Olaf volcano. Oh, and the one about the people giving themselves home perms and ended up looking like Garfunkel.

I have more than one favorite St. Olaf story actually...

I love the Herring Circus one, that one gets me everytime!
I liked the one about her cousin that did bird impressions.
I also like the one about her uncle who had false teeth or something and he would eat corn on the cob and then cream what was left on his pants or something to that effect.

Rose's St. Olaf stories are priceless!!!

My favorite St. Olaf moment is when Rose wins the coveted title of St. Olaf's Woman on the Year. The Girls all accompany Rose to lovely St. Olaf, via plain, train, automobile and mule-drawn carriage. As the girls are in the back of the hay carriage, Rose reminisces about her childhood friend, Ingrid. When Dorothy suggests she should contact her friend, Rose suddenly yells Hey, Ingrid! very loudly. A voice in the distance shouts back Is that you, Rose?! Absolutely hilarious!!!
